Having to rebuild all of my MS 1 concerts... and... rather than cry...

about having to do this... (I suspected the concerts had become internally inconsistent - see previous posts about copy/paste that maxed out memory)...
I want to look at how to approach MS2... please comment as you see fit - I've got to tackle this during the coming weekend. this is just some mindset/thinking out loud stuff, I'll do the work to get this to happen, just curious if one reads this and thinks "oh, hey don't go there, that's a dead end".
seeing as we now can copy a channel strip and paste it as an alias elsewhere...
I'd like to put the heavy hitters, such as Ivory in a separate set, where I can copy them as need to individual channel strips. I'd probably want to do this with the Chris Hein Horns too... but also smaller channel strips that come up more frequently (Wurly, Neo-Soul Rhodes kind of thing), obligatory strings, the bread and butter stuff...
The thing about having aliases being an exact copy of the original channel strip, is that per patch EQs can't be different? Perhaps routing Ivory to a bus, put the alias for Ivory in every patch that needs piano, "pick up" that bus per patch and EQ specific to that patch? (gotta try this)
I had been turning layers on/off or bringing them in/out via volume (controller 11 actually), and essentially had one patch per song (layered and split to death over 2 or 3 88-key controllers). using aliases again, I can now just always move forward through patches during a song. I have a switch set to advance +1 through the patch list. I can do the +1 thing to advance to the next patch - it's easy, and I don't have to remember what patch is what. since I can use aliases to each channel strip, individual strips that are common to all of the patches related to a song don't re-instantiate the items on said channel strips???
is there a known limit to the total number of aliases??? per channel strip and per concert?
I like Omnisphere a lot! (okay who doesn't). instead of using two or more instances on a patch, I suspect using live/stack mode is better on resources. In MS1, the controllers were discrete, there was no way that I could see where controller 1 was on midi channel 1, and controller 2 on midi channel 2, or seeing as that my controllers do zones, that controller 1 had midi channels 1, 2, 3 and 4, and controller 2 had 5, 6, 7 and possibly 8. It seems that MS2 can do "multi-timbral". Is this "better"?
oh yeah, I meant to point this out too... I have MS1 and 2 (obviously). The MS1 concerts that won't load in MS2 (says the file format is invalid, yeah right), I load in MS1, drag the patch onto the desktop, and drag it from there onto MS2, seems to work even though copy/paste between MS1 and MS2 not possible... To some degree, not all is lost from my previously saved MS1 concerts!

as for reporting the prev issue(s), well, not at that link. if I find issues this time 'round, I will though, well... duh, not opening v1 files is probably worth reporting against MS2...

Older Macs with a single Harddrive would simply expand OS management on the drive, and I think I understand the new Fusion Drive to do just that, but how do I get this product that I spent a great deal of money on to be more than a pretty screen?

OS X manages ram and when you run out, it create swapfiles to extend your ram on the HDD (Hard Disk Drive). The OS itself, takes about 16 gig of space and that too resides on the HDD. Your 16 gig of RAM is really a temporary space that holds things from the HDD so the processor can work on them. There is no design flaw between your ram and HDD. Something else is going on and there are a lot of smart people here to help you figure out what that "something else" is.
I would do three things. First I would create a backup, backups are important. Second, I would reboot into recovery and repair my HDD. Lastly while still booted in recovery I would repair permissions.

You only think the username and password are correct; when you create an account the phone asks your mail provider to validate the username and password, and if it fails you get that message.
You know that you must enter a username and password twice, once for incoming and once for outgoing mail?

How do I "Select All" email messages at once for deletion rather than touching each one?

I receive many emails each day and many of them I would like to delete all at once. But the only way so far I have been able to figure out how to do that is to manually select each and every one of the emails I want to delete then hit delete.
That is fine when I only have 5 or 6 email to get rid of, but I regularly have anywhere from 50 to 200 at a time to delete.
I cannot locate a "Select All" option in any of the menus.
Any Ideas?

My email is overloaded. I would like to delete, in bulk, all emails from a sender...rather than one at a time.. I am talking hundreds.

I can sort my folders by sender, but would like to be able to delete in bulk messages from individual senders. I have thousands of emails sitting in my inbox and need to free up space on my computer. Thanks, Fran

Or use the QuickFilter to display just the messages from the selected sender, use ctrl+a to select all, then del to delete.
If the messages were spread across multiple folders, you could use the global search to find them, then "show email as list", then use the ctrl+a, delete sequence.
It really isn't a good idea to let messages accumulate in the Inbox. Why not create subfolders and organize your messages by topic or sender?

Messages all of a sudden sending as text rather than iMessage

My boyfriend and I text every day and we both have iPhone 4's So it sends as iMessage. Ever since last night our texts have been sending as text message rather than iMessage and we cant figure out why. Were guessing it's on his end since I can text other people on iMessage. yesterday his keyboard wouldn't come up so he turned it off and back on and shortly after that our messages would only be sent as text. We've checked to make sure iMessage is on and that our 3G is up and running so if anyone has any ideas that'd be great. Would doing a restart (ie. Holding power and home) do anything?

how are you sending the iMessage? via Phone Number or Email address. Try it thru email address. If still same make sure he has the updated iOS, good internet connection and he can restart iMessage.

Yesterday iTunes worked - today, it acts like it's newly installed (won't show any of my music or playlists) - what could have made it forget everything it knew yesterday and how can I fix it without having to redo all my previous work?

The title says it all. iTunes was working fine last night. I added some more music to my playlists and synched my iPod last night, then shut down. Today, when I start iTunes it opens up a welcome to setup screen and acts like it wants me to answer questions to configure it for the first time. When I cancel out of that, it opens up a normal iTunes screen that's completely empty of music and has none of my custom playlists (all the playlists it does show are empty) and it's asking me if I want to have it search my PC and add media files, as if it's newly installed and that's never been done.
Has anybody seen this behavior before, and is there some simple way I can fix it so it remembers all the stuff it knew last night, without having to start all over again and rebuild all my playlists and stuff?

For general library squiffiness following an upgrade the easiest thing is to restore your last backup, but I guess if it were that simple you wouldn't be here.
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Can I export an AE comp or pre-comp to another AE project without having to rebuild or make a movie? In regard to tweaks or timing changes based on that projects' needs.

First, save the project in a different name. Delete out the comps & precomps you neither want nor need. Run AE's reduce project command to remove any unused footage, then save it again. Now you have a simplified project, which you can then import into any AE project you want.
If you like things nice & tidy, don't forget to use the replace layer (Alt-drag, Opt-drag) trick on any duplicated footage, using the footage from the project into which you import the simplified project. The alternative: just leave all the footage alone, and know you can't delete it.

Hopefully you moved the entire iTunes Media (or iTunes Music) folder to a new path on your external drive. Copy your iTunes library folder out to the root of the external drive, e.g. X:\iTunes (where X: is your external drive), then move the media folder inside it. Hold down shift as you start iTUnes and keep holding untila asked to choose or create a library. Choose the library at X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. Should all be good.
Failing that, download and run my FindTracks script and point it at the new location of your media folder.

This is the 2nd or 3rd time I have had problems with itunes. Sometimes I even get a message that I am not connected to the internet.

It would be so much easier having seperate accounts but we have hundreds of her purchased songs on my account and she would need to be able to access these from her account. Possible?

You can but you will not be able to limit what she syncs.

Each of you can create your own playlists then sync only those playlists.
