Having to 'Save As' every open pdf

I am using Acrobat X Pro.. with Pitstop Pro 08.. Everytime I make a change in a PDF using pitstop I cannot just save my document. I need to 'save as' a new doc. I have tried searching settings etc and have nearly given up. Does anyone know what the problem is?

If you are changing the pdf in Pistop, perhaps they are doing something that requires a Save As? Have you contacted Enfocus?

  • Hitting 'Save' in EditForm opens PDF document

I created a custom document library that stores scans of invoices as PDF-A documents. The library has a custom content type with some custom fields and the list's schema also links to a custom EditForm.aspx.
In the EditForm I am using a JavaScript function named PreSaveAction for some custom validation. The save button itself is not customized.
Now on some clients in the customer's network a weird effect occurs: Every time a user hits the save button of the EditForm, the browser redirects to the PDF's URL instead of the source URL, effectively opening the
    PDF in the browser.
IE debugging doesn't lead to any errors. The last JS function called, before the PDF opens, is in line 2090 of SP.UI.Rte.debug.js:
    RTE.Imports.ExecuteOrDelayUntilScriptLoaded(RTE.Canvas.$F1_0,"sp.ribbon.js")};
but that seems to be normal behaviour.
BTW, i am not opening the EditForm in a SP Dialog (NavigateForFormsPages="TRUE").
Has anyone ever encountered such an effect?

    Hi,
sorry for the late reply. Actually the whole story was much easier than I thought it would be. The missing peace, that I've forgotten to mention, is that I created the Edit-Buttons via JavaScript and there I simply didn't supply a"Source" url parameter.
So appending the following to the anchors href value did the trick:
     + "&Source=" + window.location.href;
Interestingly the default behaviour in absence of that parameter seems to be to redirect to the file's url.
Btw, the initial reason to append the edit buttons manually was the fact that sharepoint does not render edit buttons if the user hasn't AddListItems and DeleteListItems permissions on the list. For all users, who had that permissions, everything worked
fine because in that case I didn't manually create the edit buttons.
If anyone knows a more elegant solution, than creating them via JavaScript, I would appreciate to hear from that.

  • I've started having problems with downloading and opening PDF files.  Any hints?

This started late yesterday and I've been unable to download or open or view any PDF files.  I've restarted my computer a few times, made sure Preview was open then when those things didn't work downloaded Adobe PDF reader and that didn't work either.  Any other ideas????

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Error when opening PDF

    Hello,
I'm having problems when trying to open PDF documents. When I go to open a PDF it tells me it can not open because it is not a valid PDF document but, I am positive that it is a valid PDF document that opens in other apps. How do I fix this??
    Thanks you.

What is your operating system?  Reader version?
Can you open that PDF in a text editor, then copy and paste the first two or three lines here in the forum?

  • Safari Won't Open PDF's

    Hi,
I'm having some trouble with Safari opening PDF's. For some reason, when I click on a link I get the following message:
To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
For further support, go to www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html
I've upgraded the Adobe Reader that I have, however I'm still having this problem.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    HI,
Open Adobe Reader. Then from the Adobe Reader Menu Bar click Adobe/Preferences then select Internet in the panel on the left.
On the right make sure: Display PDF in browser using: click the pop up menu and select: Adobe Reader.
    Relaunch Safari.
If that didn't help, right or control click a PDF file you already have then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window click: Open with. Click the pop up menu and select: Adobe Reader
    Relaunch Safari.

  • Downloads - I want to open some PDFs/other file types from the internet but not have to save them; I can't figure out how to view them and close them without having to save them first.

Downloads - I want to open some PDFs/other file types from the internet but not have to save them. I can't figure out how to view them and close them without having to save them first. When I click on a file, the downloads box opens and depending on the setting, it auto saves the file or asks me where to save the file. What if I don't want to save it anywhere, I just want to view it and close it?

  • I can't open a pdf file in a browser window. I have to save it before I can open it. Why can't I open the file without first having to save it?

Anytime that I click on a pdf file in a browser window, the file will not open automatically. I am forced to save it on my computer first and then access the file. When I click on it after it is saved locally, it opens as it should.

If you are not able to get Adobe Acrobat Reader to open .pdf files in the browser. Even after you check in prefs to show pdf files in the browser.
Make this modification for all versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader that show under this key.
-Note: Deleting the key and all subkeys for any older versions also seems to fix this problem. So if you see this key present,
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\Originals
delete the 7.0 and all subkeys.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals
-Right click on Originals and choose NEW DWORD Value and name it bBrowserIntegration, hit enter,
double click on the new value and make sure the value is 1

  • Firefox opens a pdf in the browser but I can't save it as a pdf file. How do I save pdf files as pdfs?

When I open pdf files in the browser I do not have a way to save the file as a pdf file on my hard drive. I can only save it as a firefox image file one page at a time. I can't print it either except as individual pages from the image file. When I use the "Save As" icon my only options are to save as a Firefox file. What am I missing? Thanks.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Today

Try this, when I right clicked on the document to rotate the image a noticed a tool bar appeared at the bottom of the page with the save icon. It then disappeared, but by hovering at near the bottom of the document the tool bar appears and I can save the PDF.

  • Failed to open pdf error on every document

Today I came and started placing pdf documents in Indesign CS3 like I always do, and suddenly I start getting "failed to open pdf" errors on every pdf file I try and place. I have tried all the suggested tactics of selecting show import options, changing the crop to bounding box, etc. Nothing working.
I also tried to open the pdf in acrobat and export into a different format or optimize it using the pdf optimizer, but when I do that I get gobbly **** text on the pdf. See screenshots
The only workaround that works is to save as a raster image. But this is incredibly time consuming. I also tried importing these same files into Indesign cs 4 and I get the same errors. I am wondering if this is a system wide issue. Any ideas or suggestions?
I noticed all these pdf were created using cs4 and above. Not sure if this helps.

Hold the Shift key as you click Place or turn on Show Import Options in the Place dialogue.
I get this from time to time. Here’s what I think happens: You placed a PDF with Import Options showing so you could select a different crop method, like bleed. This becomes the new default import option for PDF files. But if you import a file with no bleed data InDesign gives an error message instead of either jumping to import options or telling you the default crop options are unavailable for this file. I would call it a bug. I have encountered it from at least version 4 (aka CS2).

  • Me to open a webpage document without having to save it first?

How can i change my settings in google chrome to open a googled page (that is a pdf.ppt) without having to save it first to my machine?

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

  • I am having a problem opening pdf document.  I get error message: "Adobe Reader has stopped working"

I am having a problem opening pdf document.  I get error message: "Adobe Reader has stopped working" then I get Windows is looking on line for a solution, but then my document closes. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader XI, rebooted my computer but this did not help.  I get the same message. What to do?

Can you open Reader by itself?  If so, check if disabling Protected Mode improves the situation [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
