Having trouble connecting to internet at home only, no problems elsewhere
I have tried searching the forums and can't find anything exactly comparable. I have a newer MacBook (purchased within a few months) but the same problem happened with my old Powerbook G4, too. I cannot always connect to the internet on my home network. The other computers on the network work fine, I have full bars on my airport status, green lights on the router, etc but I keep getting the error message that my computer isn't connected to the internet. The only thing that seems to get it to connect is to restart my computer. Sometimes I need to restart my computer several times before I can get a connection. Sometimes I try and try and it still won't connect, so I leave the computer for a while and when I come back and try again, it will randomly connect. I had this same problem with my old Powerbook and when I got this new one, it's the same problem. When I'm traveling, though, and try to connect to a different network, I never have this problem. It connects every time! I'm not very technical, so if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them! I did find on the forums that sometimes people can't connect if they are disconnected from the power source, but can connect fine when connected to the power source...I seem to have problems wether I'm connected to the power source or not. Thanks for any suggestions.
The people having problems not connecting without AC power was from the last OSX update to 10.5.8, this problem has since been resolved with an Airport Client update.
Your profile shows that you are running 10.5.6... I would suggest updating you software to the latest 10.5.8 as this fixed some Airport issues.
You may want to unplug the router, let it set a minute the plug it back in.
Is your Powerbook still having these issues? How long has the powerbook been experiencing this problem?

I am having trouble connecting to my in-home internet via my wireless router. The IPad says I'm connected to the router, but I am unable to receive email, Facebook and Safari. I run through Charter Cable. This only occurs on my IPad. My desktop works fine.
Although it may ultimately be necessary to perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme and start over with a new configution, we can first try to see if things will work with the existing settings on the device.
Push the reset button (if present) on the cable modem
Power off the modem by pulling the power cable
Remove the internal battery from the modem (if easily accessible)
Power off the AirPort Extreme and every other device on the network....order is not important
Wait at least 20 minutes....longer is better
Re-install the battery in the modem if it was removed previously
Make sure that the Ethernet cable from the modem is connected to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the AirPort Extreme
Power up the modem and let it run 4-5 minutes buy itself
Power up the AirPort Extreme and let it run 4-5 minutes
Then power up each other network device one at a time about a minute apart
Check for a good Internet connection on the network with all devices
If still no luck, you will need to perfom a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme as follows:
Pull the power plug from the back of the AirPort Extreme
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it another 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back in to the AirPort Extreme
Release the reset button and allow 25-30 seconds for the AirPort Extreme to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Then open AirPort Utility end reconfigure the AirPort Express again. -

Virus??? computer having trouble connecting to internet
Last week, my son's school computer got a virus, and sent me about 50 copies of the same email message. Since then, things have not been working properly on my macbook. Safari is telling me it can't connect to the internet, even though the network diagnostic tool tells me there is no problem. Mail is having trouble connecting too, and my idisk is suddenly inaccessible. I wanted to restore to a previously saved backup of my personal settings that I have been saving to my idisk but backup said it couldn't connect to the idisk. Backup also gave me a scary message when I had no choice but to abort the "restore".
I've seen lots of messages here claiming that there are no mac viruses, but if that is the case, what could be going on here? I already rebooted several times, and repaired permissions on the hard drive. any other suggestions???Hey, Mort, thanks. I did find clamxav last night on the web and left it running this morning (I'm at work now.) So we'll see what it has or has not found when I get home later. It didn't allow me to just run the software on my whole hard drive, though, I had to choose folders. I chose the system and library. Do you have any other ideas about where the virus (if it is a virus) could be living?
I'm not sure if my system has been updated. I run "software update" once a week so perhaps it has already happened. I'll check tonight. -
New iPad having trouble connecting to Internet via Wifi.
I have had all 3 iPads and I got the new one on Friday, however starting today I have had a lot of trouble connecting to the Internet via Wifi. I could not connect at home nor at school where I have had no problems before with my previous iPads, and all my friends are having not having any problems connecting to the Internet with their iPad 2's. Is there something wrong with the new iPads?
I have a 3rd generations iPad 16GB Wifi only.Kdpe222-
Then you may have a defective iPad If you can show it to an Apple Store Genius, you may get a replacement if the Genius can not fix it.
If there is no Apple Store near you, look for an Apple Authorized Repair Center. There may be one in your city. <Apple Authorized Repair Centers>
To continue on your own, take a look at <Troubleshooting WiFi Networks and Connections>.

Having trouble browsing the internet at home with my MacBook
I have been having issues browsing the web from home with my MacBook. When I try to go to pretty much any web site (Google, Yahoo!, Facebook, etc) the page starts loading and makes minimal progress before it stalls and I'm staring at a blank white browser window. The page will eventually load after about 3-4 minutes but only partially.
I have a Belkin N+ router (model F5D8235-4 v2) and a fiber optic internet service. My sister and my brother-in-law are able to access any and all sites quickly and completely. She has a MacBook Pro and he has a Dell Inspiron (so it doesn't seem to be a Mac vs Windows issue). We have tried changing the router password type from WEP to WPA. I've tried to hardwire into my router with no success. I have cleared my entire cache, history, and cookies - still no change. I have also not had any success with using a different browser.
I have no issues when I'm using my Mac at work (on a T1 line with an Ethernet cable) or at my mother's house (Netgear ADSL2+ wireless router). I'm curious as to what I can do to fix this. My Mac friends at work and my systems analyst/programmer dad are all as confused as I am. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!The Learning Center uses Flash. My guess is that you probably installed the PowerPC Flash plugin and replaced the Universal plugin that ships with the Intel-based Macs.
To restore the Universal version of the plugin, go to http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=2dda3d81 and download the preview release. -
Having trouble connecting from office to home
So I downloaded ARD last night finally to address the daily questions from the kids and wife (how do I do this, Can you install this program, etc.) Played around with it a bit last night at the house (FIOS Router to Time Machine Bridge Mode) and locally it was working like a champ!
So excitied to get to work today and try things out and no go. IT say no outbound trafic is blocked and sent him the list of ports for ARD
I have the iMac's IP address and when I search by ip and try and log in it fails with the user name and password that worked locally last night.
Any thoughts from the community.
Thanks
RobertHere the skinny, or catch. Some times a internet connection, may block ARD. So even if you configure every thing right. It may still not work. And even if it dose, soon as you go to another ineternet connection, you may be find yourself blocked. Also FiOS may change your IP, this is a very common and frequent practis for many ISPs.
Have you considered using a program like logmein.com ? It's really easy to use, and it's desgined to do just what your trying to do.
If you want to troubleshoot ARD:
When you say you have the iMacs IP address, is that the IP address from, System Prefrences, Network, Active network connection? or is that the IP address you get when your on the iMac and you go to a website like whatismyipaddress.com?
On the computer your using at work, have you tried:
1) opening Apple Remote Desktop
2) click on "All Computers"
3) Menu bar, File Menu, Add Computer by IP Address
4) Put the IP Address you got from whatismyipaddress.com in the address field
5) the login info you've been using at home.
6) click the advanced arrow
7) uncheck verify user namd and password
8) uncheck apply defualt offline reporting policy
9) click add
10) select the added record
12) click control, see what you get.
if your still not able to connect, you could try setting your iMac as the DMZ on your FIOS router. (to rule out your firewall)
Also the computer need to be on, and awake for you to be able to connect. So ether make sure the kids have it awake. OR configure your mac to stay awake.
if youw ant to configure your mac to stay wake:
Apple Menu, system prefrences, Enegery Saver, unlock, Slide computer sleep to "never".
You'll probable want screen slider set to sleep after some amount of time so the screen isn't always on. -
Having trouble connecting to internet
I have an original iPad using wifi to connect at home. Even though the wifi says it is connected to my home router, it is not connected to the internet and cannot download any data. I've reset the netowrk connections, and even did a complete reset. No luck. Other devices are connected to the same wifi: 2 PCs, a printer, and 2 iPhones. What could be wrong?
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Tried changing to channel 11, and resetting security to WPA2 AES. No joy. I can get to the router using the phone, but not to the internet. Please help.
Here is the fix that worked:
1. login into the router at http://192.168.100.1 (Defult login/password is admin/password).
2. Go to the edit wifi ooption and change the channel from 11 to 1
It has been a week since I did this. This not only made it so all of our iphones could connect but also my cisco based wireless laptop. I hope this helps anyone else with the same problem. (Also, customer service through Comcast was not so helpful) -

Having trouble connecting to wireless at home
My router is a wireless one on our PC and I type in all the information but I feel like I'm going about it all wrong. My question is that do you need an Airport base to connect to a wireless router?? If you don't can you please like walk me through it.
Someone please help.
Thank you.Heyit'skatelyn wrote:
Yes that is what I mean connecting to our wireless router, our toshiba laptop can pick up the Broadband PPPoE connection but my when I turn airport on, it doesn't show up at all. How can I make it so this Broadband PPPoE connection shows up in my airport?
The more common case is where the router connects to the ISP by PPPoE and the clients of the router aren't aware that the connection is being made by PPPoE.
I have seen posts describing the case where a computer connects by PPPoE through a router. In that case it seemed that the ISP required the computer to make the PPPoE connection and only allowed one computer to connect at a time. Your ISP should be able to explain the requirements for your service.
Some more questions: Is your Toshiba laptop connected to the router by Wi-Fi or Ethernet? Does the Toshiba network connection show the PPPoE connection details? What is the brand and model of your wireless router? -
I typed in my password for my home's wifi,it shows a full signal yet when i go to safari it says cannot find server.youtube doesn't work either.
Tell me about your wireless network. For example, encryption type, DHCP on or off, SSID on or off, and is MAC address filtering on or off?
Here's some helpful hints on settings:
DHCP - on (that assigns your IP address)
SSID - on (that broadcasts your network name. The touch has trouble remembering unnamed networks)
MAC address filtering - off
Encryption - if you are using WEP, make sure you are using 128 bit. You will need to open the router control panel and see what the hex key generated from your password is. You will use this key to log on instead of your password. If you can use WPA or WPA2 with your router, change your encryption to that and select the personnel version and not the enterprise version. You will need to create at least an 8 character password. You will use this password to log-on.
Keep us posted on how you are doing. -
