Having trouble installing Oracle onto Linux?

If you are having difficulties making sense of the lame docs that
Oracle has provided for installing Oracle 8 onto Linux, please
visit this website:
<a
href="http://amoeba.sagemediagroup.com/oracle_linux_howto/">http:
//amoeba.sagemediagroup.com/oracle_linux_howto/</a>
After much hacking and frustration, I managed to get my install
working correctly and decided to detail step-by-step what I did
to get it there. I hope this helps!

I just wanted to chime in here and say that I experienced exactly
the same problems as Fred, whilst trying to install 8.0.5 onto
Mandrake Linux 6.
Any suggestions much appreciated.

: I try every step just as the document told but when you come to
: the step applying the patch, you will find out that one of the
: library (I think it is the C library) being mentioned in the
: patch is missing. I try to look up this library in RedHat's

: installation is smooth as it goes. Hope someone can give me
: some Hints on this matter.

  • Having trouble installing Arch Linux to USB key

    Hello,
    I have read the wiki article, but it doesn't answer my question. I am having trouble installing Arch to a USB key (8GB Sandisk Cruzer). I installled GRUB correctly, it booted, but the flash drive was write-protected. In the fstab file, I have the defaults and noatime flags in there. I have never experienced an error like this, and I don't know how to fix it. I have tried to reboot into the Arch CD and mounted the USB, but it just stalls and displays no output. Obviously, if I boot into my USB (you can still boot into it), and do "nano /etc/fstab", it says that I cannot write. In case you were wondering, I am using the root user. Thank you for all your help!
    EDIT: I have Syslinux, the kernel parameters is RW. If I run mount -o remount,rw /dev/sda1, it tells me something like:
    ata3.00: status: {DRDY ERR}
    ata3.00: error: {IDNF}
    end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 21
    Buffer I/o error on device sda1, logical block 0
    EXT4-fs error (device sda1): ext4_remount:4665: Abort forced by user
    I did NOT hit CTRL+C.

    I'm a nub, and I think I'll piggy back of aqua's post.  Perhaps we have the same problem
    I have an Asus UX31A with Xubuntu (with grub) currently installed.  I created the bootable USB as per the Arch Wiki UEFI bootable usb page.  I can boot into the main prompt where you can choose "Arch Linux Iso", "shell v1", "shell v2" and "Default prompt."
    Choosing the first option (to get to the the command prompt and begin installing) makes the screen flash once, then just hangs black.  Before the flash I think I see three text lines in the upper left corner, but they flash so fast I can't read them.
    Choosing either of the shell options presents the error:
    "Error loading \EFI\shellx64_v1.efi: Unsupported"  (replace "v1" with "v2" for the other option)
    Any thoughts?

    Hey I'm having some trouble installing oracle 10g on vista home basic edition, does anyone have any info to help me out??
    Thanks

    Hello,
    Oracle 10g/11g is not supported on Vista home basic or home premium and if for some reasons you are able to install, it won't be stable.
    h4. You should consider upgrading to Vista ultimate or business as 10g is supported for these.

  • How Do I Install Oracle Unbreakable Linux on My Virtual Machine

    I would like to know the steps required to install Oracle Unbreakable Linux on my Virtual Machine, cos i tried to but i keep having problems when i get to selecting the destination for the installation, the prompt says i have to allow it format my hard disk wont i lose my files in the process.

    When you create a virtual disk for your VMWare instance the format will only affect this disk. You can see this as it will display the size of the disk. If this is the size of the virtual disk (default = 8 GB) then go ahead. If this looks like your normal HD just stop and read the VMWare installation Guide from www.vmware.com

    Run Windows or find a Mac version of the software or buy a Windows computer.
    Windows on Intel Macs
    There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
    Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
    You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.
