Having trouble publishing iWeb

I'm getting an error saying: There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider.
I've had this once before but I don't remember what I did to solve it.  Any help would be appreciated.  I am on an iMac OSX 10.7.5

This can happen due to bad file names.
Check your file names - particularly recently added image files - to make sure that there are no spaces or special characters in them. Also, look for a space just before the file extension.

  • Newly downloaded iWeb 09 - having troubles publishing with iWeb 08

    Aloha - I have had iWeb host our site for a while now without any problems. I just downloaded iLife 09 - and opened iWeb. All of the pages are RED on the pane - so I made a couple simple text changes that I needed and hit publish. It takes a long time (much longer than usual) and then when it finishes, all of the pages are still RED and no changes took place online. Tried it three times all with the same result.
    Is there something I need to do or change in iLife 09 to get my site to jive with what I made in iLife 08?
    Thanks for your help

    Bryce:
    What you're experiencing is a bug in iWeb. Report your experience of it to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html.
    I get the same thing. If I publish it all turns blue until I close iWeb and then reopen. Sometimes, however, even though all pages are red it seems that only the changes are being published.
    We just have to grin and bear it.

  • Having trouble editing iweb HTML. Help!

    Hello,
    I have been trying repeatedly to edit my websites html that I created with iweb. I bought the domain with godaddy.com and changed the cname to web.mac.com so that I could create pages and publish them to .mac, which would then show up on my .com name. After a few weeks of being satisfied, I wanted to make my site better, and iweb just wouldnt cut it. So now I have the html code for my front page of my website to include a random image upload each time the website is visited. I've been reading about how to edit the html in iweb in multiple forums and how-to guides, but none of it works for me.
    I attempted to publish to a folder and then edit the html and save it in the same place, with the same name, but this didn't have any effect on the actual website. What do I do? Someone please lay this out for me step by step and tell me what I am doing wrong. This is frustrating! Thank you.

    Thanks for your response. Your second idea is what I'm looking for ---I want a few images to display, one after another, while the homepage of my website is open. It's not really a banner that I want the images to sit in (I think of a banner as being at the top of the page). I want to position the images lower in the body of the page. I had researched this topic quite a few months ago and found some things that might help---that's why I didn't start a new thread---but I couldn't locate the information this second time. I guess it's time to start a new thread as you suggested.
    I checked out your demo. I think that my images need to cycle a little more rapidly, but your javascript is doing the thing I'm looking for. I haven't worked with java. I"m pretty low on the totem pole of web construction. I know how to insert html snippets (impressive, hunh?).
    Give this a try:
    1) add a new page to your project.
    2) add pictures to the page, keep track with their file names you'll need them for the script.
    3) add the following javascript to the page using HTML Snippet:
    <center><img id='imageholder' src='' ></img></center>
    <script type='text/javascript'>
    images = new Array();
    images.push('P8080212.JPG'); // change this to your file name
    images.push('P8080214.JPG'); // change this to your file name
    images.push('P8080215.JPG'); // change this to your file name
    // there is no limit to number of images
    // to add image, add it to the page
    // then add images.push('blah_blah'); to this script
    var image_index = 0;
    function rotateImage() {
        if (image_index == images.length - 1) { image_index = 0 } else { image_index++ }
        document.getElementById('imageholder').src = images[image_index];
    setInterval('rotateImage()', 1000); // change this number to change rotation interval, 1000 = 1 second.
    </script>
    4) in those lines: images.push('blah_blah.jpg') , change file names (inside the single quote) to your image file names
    5) size and place the HTML Snippet on the page.
    6) Set the images' opacity to 0% after you are done so they won't show on your page.
    That's it, there is no limit to number of images, when you add an image to the page, just add another line: images.push('blah_blah.jpg');
    And by the way, I have Chinese Houses in my yard and was photographing Gilia a week ago myself. Are native plants one of your interests?
    Yes, they are low maintenance, the Gilia aren't blooming yet.

  • Trouble publishing iWeb

    I designed a new site in iWeb, with an introductory page, and a page with several albums.
    When I published it, the pages and albums listed in the tree on the left side switched from blue to red, and when viewed from the site, the album page is blank.
    Is this an iWeb problem or one with Mobile Me?
    I'm assuming it's iWeb, since it's in the iWeb application where the pages and albums are now red.
    So what causes this?
    Do I have bad links or something?
    I used the Media window on the right and dragged albums from iPhoto to my album page in iWeb. Later I dragged some additional photos and videos directly from iPhoto to my albums in iWeb. I also dragged a video I created in iMovie directly into one of my iWeb albums.
    Could my doing that have created my problems?
    I've restarted the computer, republished my entire site several times, and deleted the plist file as suggested in this forum.
    Any ideas? Why did my pages and albums turn red?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Publish the site to a folder on your desktop and run it from there to see if all the pages have been created properly. You can change the destination of the publish by clicking on the site's folder icon in iWeb on the left.
    Click to view full size
    If the site is what you expected by republishing the site to MobileMe via the File->Publish Entire Site menu option and check online.
    The issue with the items turning red has been with iWeb 09 for a while now. It affects some and not others it seems. I've found that even though the icons are red iWeb doesn't always republish the entire site if Publish Changes is used. It's hit or miss on that issue. Be sure to report the problem to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html.

  • Having trouble publishing!

    I'm trying to edit the html code for my swf movie that I want to play and It isn't working right.I'm relatively new to Flash and thats why I'm here.I want to link to my movie from another page & cant figure out how to do it.i would prefer not to do an animated gif. any help is greatly appreciated,thanks.

    Sorry, I misunderstood.  I take it you are trying to embed a swf into your html.  It's not real simple to do by hand.  When I publish the swf I always make sure html is selected in my publish settings and let the fla do the embeding for me.  If you already have a html page and want to embed in that you can copy the code that embeds from the html you published and paste it into a div in your existing page.  You could also do a search for embed swf you'll find examples like this
    <object classid="clsid:166B1BCA-3F9C-11CF-8075-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/director/sw.cab#version=7,0,2,0" width="320" height="240" name="Pixies">
         <param name="src" value="../images/pages/robinsons/pixies.dcr">
         <embed src="../images/pages/robinsons/pixies.dcr" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/" width="320" height="240" name="Pixies"></embed> </object>
    I think if you want it to work on all browsers you need an embed statement inside an object statement.  You might also find this useful.

    One more thing if you have dreamweaver or front page you can just let them do it.

  • Publishing Iweb 08

    Hello everybody.
    Having trouble publishing a web site we built in Iweb 06. We changed to one of the new templates and added a couple of new pages. Have tried to approx 4 times and every time it results in crashing Iweb before it publishes. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks david

    Unless you have a backup copy of the pre-updated Domain.sites file, you may be in trouble. Have you tried publishing to a folder?
    If by chance you have a backup, duplicate it and then update the copy (rename it Domain.sites2, from Domain copy.sites2) in iWeb08, and without doing any changes to the site execute a Publish all to .Mac. If you are successful, make a backup copy of the new Domain.sites2 file, put it in a safe place, and try again with your new templates/changes.

  • Publishing iWeb Error...   ...Has it been solved yet???...

    I kinda let it go when I first started having trouble with iWeb 1.1.1, hoping that Apple would fix the error within time. A friend just brought it to my attention that I haven't updated my iWeb in about six months.
    Cut a long story short. I'm still getting the...
    Publish Error
    An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites/iWeb/Site/Blog”.
    ...And I've just spent the last two hours looking through the iWeb Discussions trying to find an answer, doing what some people have suggested, and not had anything work.
    Is there a fix that I may have missed? Or is this something that just isn't fixable until another update from Apple?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Laith,
    As you can probably tell from the various posts around here, several people are still experiencing various publishing errors similar to the one that you describe. I'd like to think that these errors are sporadic and happen to only a handful of people. It must be difficult to track down all of the variables. Otherwise, I'm sure Apple would have come out with a fix by now. Unfortunately, this is not the case. All anyone can really suggest is to keep trying different things.

  • Internet Explorer 7 - Trouble loading iWeb 08 Pages

    Is anyone else having trouble with iWeb 08 pages not loading properly when viewed in Internet Explorer 7?
    Everything loads fine on a Mac (Firefox 2.0) and even on a PC using Firefox but when viewing the site from IE7 it seems like pages containing photos (ie photo pages and blog entries) are having trouble loading completely. The images never appear or some images appear or some thumbnails fail to appear in the new photo gallery page.
    Solutions? Work arounds? Or is this just a bug that needs to be repaired in an upgrade?
    I love the Mac but the new iWeb and iPhoto seem a little glitchy out of the box.

    mtd,
    I tested your site on my PC with IE 7. No problems. In fact I tested load times for both Safari (Mac) and IE (PC) and they were almost identical. I compared screens side by side and they looked the same. Some of you may not have updated versions of IE. Additionally the IE browser settings can be a bit tricky. You know, it's MS so troubleshooting is a given! One suggestion is to delete all the cookies currently running in IE 7 and give it another viewing.
    I have noticed that some themes slow down both browsers. It's a matter of complexity of the theme.

    I'm having difficulty publishing via ftp to Machighway, I suspect this has to do with the fact I seperated my webpages into 3 sites in iWeb. Can any one tell me how to undo this in iWeb?

    You'll have to describe in detail the workflow you're using to upload to Machighway and any messages/warnings that you get along the way.  Also what version of iWeb are you using and are you publishing just one of your sites?

  • Having trouble setting up my website. It's probably a silly mistake.

    So I've registered a domain and hosting plan with A Simple Orange which had a pretty good deal since I had a coupon for 20% off. I've tried using Joomla to manage my website, but I couldn't get the hang of it. So I'm trying out iWeb 09' now and just having trouble setting it up. I've gone to me.com and added my website and added the CNAME correctly I hope. Here is a picture. http://imgur.com/XI8Lw.png
    Next I opened iWeb and setup MobileMe in the preferences panel. I've tried publishing the information from iWeb to my website, but my home page doesn't change. You can see here at RyanSchefer.com that it's just plan

    No. Your CNAME setting is not correct. The CNAME and web.me.com are correct with web.me.com being your host. However, your domain name is incorrect - don't understand why you have put mobileme before it? You just enter either your domain name on its own so domain.com or you need to set up two separate CNAME entries, one being for www, CNAME, web.me.com and then one being @, CNAME, web.me.com. The @ stands for your domain name and the www is your sub domain.
    Try altering this and it should work okay.

    Any help would be extremely appreciated as trying to fix this for about five weeks

    It's a really bad idea to post your email address - it's an invitation to spam - and I've asked the Hosts to remove it. (Even though I've now noticed you mis-spelled it! - anyway, never post your address in a forum.)
    You have a site here: http://virginiagordon.com/www.virginiagordon.com/WELCOME.html
    If that's not the page you are having trouble with, what is that page's URL?

  • Publishing iWeb Site on a Personal Domain

    Hi,
    I'm having a lot of trouble publishing my site to a personal domain. I am using iWeb 08 and am publishing via MobileMe and domains.com is my host. For some reason, I just can't get the site to publish on my personal domain. My personal domain is registered on MobileMe and the CNAME is programmed into the domains.com DNS management area. What's going on that's not allowing it to appear?? The site is just blank...please help!

    Works fine for me too, but not if you place the www before your domain name. If you want this too, you may need to go back to your DNS settings and set up a new CNAME for your domain name that includes the www part too, but only if you want to.
