Having trouble upgrading iPhoto 7.1.4

I recently upgraded my MAC to OS X 10.9 so that I could run Aperature.  I was instructed to install the latest version of iphoto because I had iphoto 7.1.4. and couldn't run Aperature with 7.1.4.   I did this and then was instructed to install iphoto upgrader to upgrade iphoto 7.1.4 before I could run the new iphoto.  I did this and it appeared to be successful but I still have 7.1.4 and can't open the new iphoto.  I get the same message: to open your library with this version of iphoto it first needs to be prepared etc etc.  Can anyone help me?

You're somewhat confused here.
Yes you can run Aperture with iPhoto 7.1.4. What you can't do is share the Library, that's all.
How did you install "the new iPhoto"?
If you installed the Upgrader, did you run it? As in: Go to your Applications/Utilities folder and find it there and double click on it?
Why do you think you still have iPhoto 7.1.4?

What App are you using with the microphone?  I've used Skype, which has a "test call" feature to check your microphone.
There is a good chance your microphone is defective, possibly disconnected inside the iPad.  If an Apple Store Genius can not fix it, you may get a new iPad on the spot.

Hi, not positive, but it sounds like maybe the Optical drive is flaky, but a lomg shot...
I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files!
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterpretable Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • I am having trouble with iPhoto-it won't launch.

am having trouble with iPhoto-it won't launch and leaves a blank white screen box and spinning wheel of death-if I re-install software-will I lose all photos and faces settings? Any ideas-this is a Mac Pro and Xserve school system.
It seemed to stem from when I was transferring some movie footage from an HD camcorder to iMovie.
This is a school system and I'm worried I may lose many photos and face recognition data.
    Phil

    1. The library is separate from the application, so re-installing shouldn't cause an issue with the actual photos. But it would be foolhardy in the extreme to do anything without first backing up.
    2. Often these issues are caused by a damaged Library, so reinstalling doesn't change much.
    FWIW
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.
    Alternative approach:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

i am having trouble opening iphoto as it keeps showing the loading sign. I am using os x 10.6.8 and my iphoto version is 9.2.3. Please help

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I'm having trouble upgrading to ITunes v12.0.1 with Win 7. Download progress bar stalls and eventually cancels itself. Have tried Tools -- Download Only, but same result. Have been using iTunes for 3  years without difficulty

I'm having trouble upgrading to ITunes v12.0.1 with
Win 7. Download progress bar stalls and eventually cancels itself. Have tried
Tools --> Download Only, but same result. Have been using iTunes for 3+
years without difficulty; I have lots of ram, hard drive and speed.
    Thanks for your input

One step listed in the link to "helpful" info, was (when Iooked 30 seconds ago), to search for and download the newest version of iTunes. I'm running iTunes on Win 7 machine and was prompted to update today, 10.22.2014, and did so without a problem. Having said that, however, it looks as though the latest iTunes (12.0.1.26) is finally doing what the last version refused to do, which is to actually fully populate all my playlists on my 6, but there is a hitch: 12.0.1.26 will NOT allow you to show the sidebar unless you click on "playlists," that is, you cannot keep it open all the time.
And, when plugging the 6 into the computer, the phone icon shows up but clicking on it does nada. What does work, for some strange reason, is clicking on the tiny icon (just under the "Store" menu link at top screen) which looks much like a tiny barrel, someone's idea of external drives, I suppose. The phone then comes up, with the list of stuff on the phone just under it where the sidebar used to be. Sync is now restricted to the lower right of the screen.
Apparently, you will also need to update your iPhone's software as well; some friends with the 4 and 4s, however, had troubles with them after upgrading. The message from Silicon Valley (I can see Apple from my backyard, ha ha) is apparently, "keep upgrading," folks, get rid of those old phones.

I have been trying to upgrade my iphoto library from the iphoto '09 to the iphoto'11 since I upgraded to yosemite. Every time I open the application to upgrade my library it starts upgrading then seems to get stuck at the same point each time.  There are no error warnings or anything, the bar simply stops moving.  I have left it trying to upgrade overnight and even all day one day but every time it stops about a quarter of the way.  Does anyone know how I can get access to my photos again?  I did back up my computer before I installed yosemite just in case, so if necessary I can go back to mavericks but I would like to get yosemite working as I do like it other than my problems with iphoto.
