Having trouble upgrading to OS X yosemite

I currently have OS X 10.8.5 installed on my computer and I'm trying to upgrade it to the OS X yosemite. Everytime I got to the App Store I insert my password and then a little box comes out with the statement "There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (4)" why is this happening?

I'm not sure if the printer driver is updated, it usually does that automatically...
That sounds magical but I have never had printer drivers automatically update themselves. After your upgrade to Yosemite, did you setup your printer using Print & Scan in System Preferences?
...office programs are the only ones crashing when I try to print, so wouldnt that indicate an Office issue rather than a printer driver issue?
No, not necessarily. See thread "microsoft office crashes when trying to print."
If you believe the your problem is an "Office issue" then you might try the Microsoft forum.

After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...

Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files!
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterpretable Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

One step listed in the link to "helpful" info, was (when Iooked 30 seconds ago), to search for and download the newest version of iTunes. I'm running iTunes on Win 7 machine and was prompted to update today, 10.22.2014, and did so without a problem. Having said that, however, it looks as though the latest iTunes (12.0.1.26) is finally doing what the last version refused to do, which is to actually fully populate all my playlists on my 6, but there is a hitch: 12.0.1.26 will NOT allow you to show the sidebar unless you click on "playlists," that is, you cannot keep it open all the time.
And, when plugging the 6 into the computer, the phone icon shows up but clicking on it does nada. What does work, for some strange reason, is clicking on the tiny icon (just under the "Store" menu link at top screen) which looks much like a tiny barrel, someone's idea of external drives, I suppose. The phone then comes up, with the list of stuff on the phone just under it where the sidebar used to be. Sync is now restricted to the lower right of the screen.
Apparently, you will also need to update your iPhone's software as well; some friends with the 4 and 4s, however, had troubles with them after upgrading. The message from Silicon Valley (I can see Apple from my backyard, ha ha) is apparently, "keep upgrading," folks, get rid of those old phones.

I am having trouble with my MacBook Air 13 inch June 2012 MacBook Air5, 2 4GB RAM details below in Etresoft report. I recently upgraded to Yosemite and am having system trouble. My computer crashes and I have to force quit to restart. When using webmail there is a black screen for a split second between pages. This did not happen before. I am worried that it is not running properly and perhaps I need to revert to the previous operating system. I only have a MacBook Air and no need to share images between a tablet or phone so I did not need the new photo sharing software of Yosemite. I wonder if I don't have enough RAM to run it? I did not run time machine before I made the upgrade as I did not realise the significance of an upgrade as not very Mac literate. Any advice on whether my system is in danger... most appreciated! I am writing a book and making a back up but this machine is my lifeline and my work is conducted through it. It ran perfectly before... the Yosemite upgrade has perhaps highlighted some problems and it has unnerved me!

When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

You need to be running Snow Leopard to get the App Store app to upgrade to Yosemite. You will have to buy a Snow Leopard install DVD.

The OS itself is free, although that doesn't mean there's no cost to upgrade. You sound like you've put in the research and have backups - I'd be inclined to clone your working 10.7 system to an external drive using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper so you can quickly recover in case 10.10 doesn't do what you need. You can't recover quickly from Time Machine.

I have been trying to upgrade my iphoto library from the iphoto '09 to the iphoto'11 since I upgraded to yosemite. Every time I open the application to upgrade my library it starts upgrading then seems to get stuck at the same point each time. There are no error warnings or anything, the bar simply stops moving. I have left it trying to upgrade overnight and even all day one day but every time it stops about a quarter of the way. Does anyone know how I can get access to my photos again? I did back up my computer before I installed yosemite just in case, so if necessary I can go back to mavericks but I would like to get yosemite working as I do like it other than my problems with iphoto. Thanks!

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Having trouble upgrading mac to yosemite with 10.6.8

I have OS X 10.6.8 and however everytime I click the "get" option in the app store the computer pretends to load for a while and then just stops and doesnt download a thing

Try resetting the App Store and Clearing Cookies.

Also try some other links besides the Yosemite page. There are at least 2 in the right hand column. If you hover over the Top Free Yosemite, you'll get a download option.

Having trouble upgrading from Tiger 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard 10.6.3.

I'm having a problem upgrading my operating system to SL 10.6.3. When I insert the install disc my iMac just rejects the disc without mounting it. My hard drive is not cluttered with applications because I mainly just surf the web. The several times I was able to get the install disc to mount, when I try to install the disc just ejects. I'm having the same problem with the Tiger 10.4 install disc when I try to restart in 10.4 so I can run disc utilities disc repair it ejects even holding down the c key. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. jwgpp

After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files!
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterpretable Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

I'm Having Trouble upgrading to itunes 7.0.2

My computer won't let me upgrade to itunes version 7.0.2, I'm currently at some version of 6.0. I think it's doing some wierd error or something. Halfway through the download a pop-up comes on my screen and say cannot access HKEY, the address of the HKEY is: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\QuicktimePlayerLib.QuicktimePlayerApplCLSID. The pop-up says this key cannot be accessed and then says to verify I have access to this key (which I don't know how to do) or contact my support personnel. So can someone please help me fix this problem, or else I will never be able to upgrade.

I was having the same problem, but then i ran the Windows Installer Utility clean up and removed QuickTime, and tried downloading iTunes with QuickTime again, and it worked perfectly, i was so happy. so it couldn't hurt to give it a try.

Having trouble upgrading to Leopard......

First off, sorry if this seems like a stupid or obvious question.
I'm currently running Panther and am trying to upgrade to Leopard but after I insert the CD and restart it goes to a dark gray screen and then I get that spinning pin wheel and it just stays like that. I did read where it takes around 15-30 minutes to get to the install screen but the last time I did it I let it sit for over an hour before I quit.
Can somebody help me out? Thanks.

Try resetting your PRAM.

Also try booting holding the C key after you reset the PRAM instead of having the instal disc do the restart. If you get to the instal screen, run the Disc Utility and repair permissions.

I'm having trouble upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion on MacBook Pro

I'm having issues trying to upgrade to Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro. I'm running the latest version of Snow Leopard but everytime I try to buy the app in the apple store to upgrade to Mountain Lion it alerts me that my system is not compatibale. I don't' understand I read all the requirements and I meet all of them. My MacBook Pro is from mid to late 2007, I have 3G's of RAM, I have an Intel Duo Core 2, I'm running the latest Snow Leopard.
Anyone else encounter this problem? Any suggestions?
