Having trouble with connectivity, no internet connection away from home, can't check Facebook, weather, scores.......

if you don't have a dataplan and rely on wifi for internet that is how it works
if you do have a dataplan it sounds like it's not set up correctly in which case you should contact your carrier

    I too have this problem but I've had it for about 2 years.  We used to think it was because I was on wi-fi and I was getting interference.  I moved the modem closer and that didn't help.  Then my ISP kept telling me it was my Dlink modem so I chucked that modem out and went with my ISP's modem.  That didn't solve the problem but at least my ISP couldn't blame it on other equipment.   I then moved the modem right beside my iMac and I was still loosing the connection  while on wi-fi.  I got so fed up that I have hard wired my iMac right into the modem and it's still happening.  Ive had my cable company out here a zillion times trying to trouble shoot this.  They changed all of my cabling from the road to my house and from my house to the computer.  They gave me a new modem and then they gave me another new modem but a different brand.  I'm still dropping my internet connection every few minutes. 
    The one thing that I discovered with my provider is that I'm not actually loosing connection to the internet as they don't see my internet dropping at all.  It's as if the signal comes and goes on this iMac and when it goes, I'm left with my curser doing the whirley-bird until it reconnects to the net.  Usually takes 5 minutes or so but it eventually comes back.  My wi-fi is fine with my iPad and my iPhone but it wasn't with this iMac.  I've been on Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion and I've had the same problem with all three OS's on this iMac. 
    I'm totally at a loss as to why this is happening.  It's very frustraging and makes it near impossible to use online banking or booking flights etc because I can't keep a connection long enough.
    Anybody have any brilliant suggestions to try?

  • I'm having problems with my mobile internet connection

    I'm having problems with my mobile internet connection. Wifi works fine. It seems like my connection get lost every tuesday and friday between 11 and 12 am local time (guess it would be between 2 and 3 am Los angeles time for example). The connection won't comeback by itself. I have to turn the phone, iPhone 4s iOS 5.0.1, off and back on again. The connection immediatly works fine after the restart and stays fine for days. I really don't know what to do. My provider doesn't seem to know either. Tried a lot of things, new settings, resets, I even got a new iPhone. Still the same problem however. Richt now I changes the time setting to see it the problem occurs at another time. Btw: the phone doesn't say "no service" and I can send sms messages and make phonecalls. The 3G symbol or the circular symbol is shown next to the name of the provider.
    Does somebody has an idea what this might be? Thanks a lot.

    Update. My carrier says the antenna of my iPhone 4s is not so good as the one in the iPhone 3G. They can't solve the problem. Their signal is too weak for the 4s at places I spend most of my time. Not the answer I expected, but I'm free to choose an other carrier. Hope this will help.

  • Unable to connect to Wi-Fi away from home

    My iPhone 5 refuses to connect to any Wi-Fi network while I'm away from home.  I'm able to connect to and use my home Wi-Fi network without any problems. However, when I'm at Starbucks, traveling, work, etc., I'm unable to connect to any Wi-Fi network.  I've taken the following troubleshooting steps without success:
    1)  Initially, I reset network settings thinking this would be a quick fix.  No success.
    2)  I then deleted all backups on iCloud (to rule out a corrupt backup being the cause, performed a new backup to iCloud, and then performed a deep restore to iOS 7.1.1 via iTunes recovery mode.
    I'm still unable to connect to any Wi-Fi network besides my home network.  Any advice on how to remedy this would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

    I'm able to see the available networks, but after selecting the appropriate network, my iPhone fails to connect.  I read somewhere that toggling Airplane mode may fix the problem I'm having.  I have since tried that to no avail.

  • IPod Touch will not connect to wi-fi away from home

    I realise this may not be a fresh topic but I've searched and cannot find an answer.
    My Touch - more or less brand new - connects to my home wi-fi with no hassle. Syncs, the whole bit. Lovely.
    But it won't work away from my home. It recognises wi-fi networks, let's me connect to them but won't actually let me access webpages or update my mail. The mail aspect is the biggest problem as I'm away from it most of the day and bought the Touch to solve the problem. It says it's updating but nothing is downloaded.
    Accessing the internet, even with wi-fi apparently switched on, doesn't work either. I've even tried renewing leases on wi-fi networks but it still won't work. Please help.

    Couple reasons for why iPod Touch will not connect to WiFi Networks outside the house
    1. They are using Mac Address Filtering. Which require the WiFi address in your iPod Touch to be programmed into their WiFi Router. Not much you can do to fix that unless you know who owns the network and they are willing to add you
    2. The networks are running in 802.11 n Speed only mode. Thus iPod Touch will not connect as the touch only supports 802.11 B/G connections. They could also be using the old 802.11 (A) connection on the network as well
    3. As stated earlier they could have outdated Firmware/Software on the router. Thus making the router out of date and not able to connect modern day devices. So if you know the owner it may be advised they contact router manufacture or their tech to update the firmware/software and see if touch connects after
    4. Outdated Touch Software. Ensure you have the latest free version of the iPod Touch Software. If you have yet to get one of the paid versions you may wish to research and or see if a friend has a newer software on their touch and is able to connect to the networks you can not.
    5. WiFi Network security the hot spot is using. Sometimes old standard WEP security can prevent Touch from properly connecting and getting on the network. It is recommended if you know the owner or tech that runs it to try and use WEP 128 bit 13 character password or stronger more modern day wifi security.
    If they are using 40/64 bit WEP. Try adding a $ and then the password that they provide you and see if you can connect.
    If you get the time please visit your local Apple retail store so they can further look into the touch and test it on the store wifi network. If for some reason it does not work there and they determine possible HW service is needed they will speak about your in warranty options.

  • I'm having trouble with my Ellipsis Jetpack connecting to a Windows 8.1 computer

    Has anyone had any problems connecting the jetpack (Ellipsis) to the internet with a computer that is running Windows 8,1?  I was able to remove my password and it connected, but I'm leary about connecting without the password.  It connected beautifully with my laptop using Windows 7 and my android phone (as well as the Verizon salesman's phone) who hooked me up.  Any help would greatly be appreciated!  I spent 2-1/2 hours on the phone with HP and Verizon support at the same time and neither tech had an answer.

    Thank you for your answer, but my Ellipsis is a jet pack.  There is a tablet called Ellipsis, however, mine is a wireless jet pack.  I believe it is relatively new (since around Dec. 2013) give or take a few months. 
    I am trying to connect to the internet from my desktop computer running Windows 8.1 using my Ellipsis Jet Pack device.  My Ellipsis jet pack connected every device in the house except for the desktop.  Once I erased my password and tried getting on the internet via the jet pack and no password, my desktop computer accepted it and I was online.
    I've been reading about connectivity issues that 8.1 is having right now.  I have a feeling that it is the Windows 8.1 issue more so than the jet pack.

    My iPad won't load any pictures on facebooks website, or the app. It will load google pictures but on Facebook they come up as a blue question mark and it also won't let me log into intagram or snapchat, it says check your network connection. I had a provisioning profile from an GBA emulator awhile back and  I deleted the emulator but not the profile. I recently tried to download  the emulator again and this is when problems started. I deleted the profile but nothing seems to work. I have an IPad 2, is there anyway to fix this without going to Apple? I'm not good with all this tech stuff

  • I'm having trouble with my HP plotter connection to Airport Extreme

    I have connected Airport Extreme in my office. It seems to be connecting to the internet, however I have my HP 800PS plugged into the USB on it and I keep getting that the "printer is off line." Can someone help me? I just thought I could plug in the plotter to airport extreme and it would work.

    Did you "install" the printer/plotter again?
    Open Print and Fax
    Click on the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list to start the process
    Hopefully, your Plotter/printer will show up
    If yes, click to highlight the name of the device
    Click Add
    Now try to print. It will appear as if you have two of the same printers. You must choose the correct "location" to print.
    I do not know if a Plotter is supported at the AirPort Extreme. If the device does not "show up" after you click the plus button, the Plotter is not going to work when connected to the AirPort Extreme. You will need to connect it directly to your computer.

    Syncing an iPhone 4S running iOS 6.1.3 or earlier requires at least a G4 Mac running 10.5.8.
    Syncing an iPhone 4S running iOS 7 requires at least an Intel Mac running 10.6.8.
    If your computer can't be upgraded to the required OS version, buy a secondhand or refurbished one which can.

    Back up your phone!!!
    Go to Settings>General at the bottom of the screen hit “Reset.” On next screen select "Reset All Settings." This will reset your locked screen, your internet passwords, Touch ID & Passcode, your zoomed view, battery percentage, etc. You won’t  loose any apps or docs. Just go back and change them as you did when you first got the phone. Delete all the Bluetooth devices on both in your Car and on the iPhone (on the phone: go to Bluetooth>My Devices, click on the “i” at the right and click on "Forget This Device"). Shut down both the phone and the car. Restart the car and the phone. “Pair" your phone. Shut the car off and restart. Give it a few minutes to allow the car to update the phonebook.
    This worked like a gem.

    Same story......after waiting over 36 hours for activation, finally called 877-800-3701 AGAIN (probably the 4th or 5th time) and got an incredible CS person named Michelle who could not have been more helpful. She actually took the time to look at my account, saw that it was ready to activate, and went through all the steps to manually activate it. Whole process took about 45 minutes, but it was with someone from AT & T instead of waiting around all day for some magical email. Now, iPhone works like a charm and was worth the wait.
    So to all still waiting for activation, keep calling the 3701 number. And keep doing it until someone takes the time to help you. It really does work......

    Well first, the version of Firefox you are running is EXTREMELY old and insecure. Please update to Firefox 11 right away. [[Updating Firefox]] can help you with that.
    After doing that, if you are still having issues, Try to start Firefox in [[Safe mode|Safe mode]]. This mode disables all extensions, user customizations, hardware acceleration, etc. temporarily for diagnostic and troubleshooting. If Firefox works fine in Safe Mode, then this is likely an add-on issue. Restart Firefox in normal mode, then type "About:addons" (without the quotes) in the address bar. Disable your extensions one by one, restarting Firefox between each one, until you find the trouble maker. Once you do, you can disable that add-on and report the issue to that add-on's developer.
    A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this:
    Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
    Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers].
