Having trouble with FTP connection

I am trying to connect to my FTP server at home from my G5 quad. I've tried using both passive and active modes. I finally read somewhere that with the OSX firewall up you must use passive.. ok. So, I set my ftp server up for passive, set my router (only have a router on the server side) appropriately, and try and connect and it wont let me - it says "IO Error: No route to host."
So, I disable the firewall in OSX to see if thats it and it connected fine! I re-enable the firewall, and it doesnt work, so it must be a software setting. I've tried a few FTP apps including Fetch and Cyberduck with similar errors.
I've tried enabling port 20 as well as 21 and that didnt help. When I look at my log, I see this:

It feels like its not handling the passsive mode well and not letting a path through. When I was playing with active mode, I was able to get it to connect, but it wouldnt give me a file listing.. it would just sit and spin. Thanks for any replies..

This indicates that your firewall is blocking an incoming connection on port 49169.
For "normal" FTP either the server (passive) or the client (active) must allow incoming connections on a high (> 1024) random port for the actual data transmission. Reference - http://slacksite.com/other/ftp.html
I would suggest that since you have control of both machines that you use SFTP which communicates entirely over port 22 (and it's a much more secure connection method). On the server you would need to enable "Remote Login (ssh)" which automatically cranks up the SFTP server functionality. On the client you will need to use a program that has the SFTP option available - most do, but Finder does not.

The last really supported Flash for PPC was 10.1.102.64, but if it's for like Facebook or such, people have been fooling FB to think they have a leter version installed.

After installing Mountain lion to my mid 2011 imac 21" I am having trouble with my internet connection. Anyone else have to deal with this?

Are you on 10.8.2 as ypur profile says? If so, it's worth updating to 10.8.3 which was released last week.

I am having trouble with itunes connecting to the ipod software update server

I am having trouble contacting the ipod update server. I just recently updated my computer with the vista service pack 2 and did necessary repairs but for some reason my itunes will not connect to the server nor to the online itunes store. Does anyone have any ideas?

On rare occasions, the message can be caused by LSP trouble. If that's afoot, I'd try the following document:

I have a MacBook Air version 10.6.8. 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory. I'm having trouble with internet connection.

I have a Macbook Air 2.13 GHz 6MB, 2 GB memory and I'm having trouble getting connected to wifi or internet. I've already checked the airport. I've also verified the connection on the router. I am still not successful in getting connected.

Delete all the existing wireless networks you have stored in the MBA under the network setup of the wireless card.
Power off the MBA and power on again and then rediscover the wireless..
Any luck??
If you still have issues.. more info.. what router are you using? How much wireless signal do you get? Can other devices connect and it is just the MBA that has trouble??

Why am I having trouble with Internet connect?

I have just set up a broadband connection using a USB modem on my phone line. I have to reconnect each time I wake the computer from Sleep as the Modem gets its power supply through the USB port. Sometimes it takes several attempts to establish a connection. I have checked the configuration (several times). Is the problem most likely to be:
a) With Internet Connect ?
b) With my ISP?
C) With the modem?

My guess, the modem.
It's probably taking some time for the USB modem to power up, perform its startup tests, load its configuration and be ready to respond to the network.
It's one of the reasons I never recommend USB DSL routers.
If the modem supports direct power (vs. being powered by the USB line) you can try using that - at least that way the modem won't power down and need to do its whole startup process again. Either that or replace the USB modem with an ethernet-based one that won't have this problem.

Since downloading and installing Lion, have been having trouble with internet connection. Are there settings that I need to adjust?

Just installed Lion 10.7 ... having problems opening Safari and connectivity. Have to reset modem, restart computer, etc. It will be stable for awhile, then next time I log on, have to go through same things. Is there a setting that I need to adjust?

Also, I have already done the 10.7.1 update...come to think of it, the problem seems to have started after the update. Any thoughts?

Having trouble with fm transmitter

i have a 2gb 1st gen nano and use an extrememac airplay2 transmitter in my car
i've been having trouble with the connection - it will sometimes only transmit through the right speaker, or it will be working fine and it will suddenly kick off and i get a blast of static (i.e. what would be coming through the radio if the ipod wasn't playing at all). gives me a coronary, every time.
picking up the entire assembly and jiggling things a bit clears it up, though, which makes me think that i've got a dirty or damaged connection between the ipod and the transmitter...so, first things first - if i wanted to clean the 'dock' part of the nano, how would i do that? safely?
has anyone else had this problem?

how much did you spend on this fm transmitter? my experence is that if you pay less than $80 its junk.. if i were to clean out the "dock" portion of an ipod i would use an air gun/bottle.. I dont know if its safe or not but its what i would try. i have been through an itrip and one other cheap fm transmitter and i had the same issues as you had..

I have an iPad 3, iPad Mini and iPhone 5S and they are all sluggish on capitalisation using shift keys. I hope that Apple will solve the problem because it is driving me crazy.
I find using a Microsoft Surface and Windows 8 phone, which I also have, work as well as all the ios devices before the ios 7 upgrade.
It has something to do with the length of time that you need to hold the shift key down. The shift key needs to be held longer than the letter key for the capitalisation to work. For some reason, this is a major change in the way we have learnt to touch type on computers. I am having to relearn how to type!

I am having trouble with my Mac Mini's ethernet connection. Defining a new network interface shows no ethernet adaptor. Reloading SL from DVD repaired. But SL update lost ethernet again. Will Lion Fix?

I am having trouble with my mac mini ethernet. It had been working for weeks after an update to SL 10.6.8.
Once it went out and i repaired it by defining a new connection from System Preferences ->Network->(left panel service, +).
But yesterday, after a power up. my ethernet was not working again. I tried this old trick to repair it, but the interface choices
listed for '+' a new service did not include Ethernet any more. And the Utilities->System Profiler->Ethernet Cards shows
no ethernet available.
As a last ditch effort i reloaded my original SL from DVD. (I think it was version 10.6.4 but i could be mistaken on the version).
The ethernet worked! But KeyNote wasn't going to work because apparently the version i purchased depends on 10.6.8.
So I upgraded again to SL 10.6.8 (Plus some other updates like AirPort which i don't use).
Now the Ethernet is not working again. I see the same symptoms as before with the Ethernet seeming not installed.
Is this a problem seen by others?
Would going to Lion fix the problem?
Could AirPort actually be the culprit and not SL?
If i stay with my original SL, would i need to repurchase a version of KeyNote for the older version of SL?

Have you reset the SMC?
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord.
Wait fifteen seconds.
Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
While you're at it, resetting the PRAM won't hurt anything and 'might' help is SMC reset didn't work (PRAM does some port control):
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
Something else you might try .... you don't say how you're updating to 10.6.8, however, if you're using Software Update, you might try downloading the 10.6.8 combo update, which contains all updates to 10.6. Sometimes, Software Update doesn't work quite right, and installing the combo update fixes that. Download the update from Apple's download site at http://support.apple.com/downloads/ , using Disk Utility repair permissions, apply the combo update, then repair permissions again.

Connect the device to iTunes and restore from the most current backup.
If the issue continues, restore as new.

I finally figured it out. Needed to update her Airport firmware and allow guest access, and also changed Sharing preferences to Allow Access for All Users.

I appologize for the font and colour, I compossed the question in pages and failed to notice the font colour as grey ... there are a variety of computers of various ages so I think it is using a setting that allows both 5G and 2.4 ... the connection to the Airport is thru a cable modem and cable does run throuhout the house ... maybe those hard wires would be a place to look at ... do you think that putting the 'Express' on the second floor might help ... thanks again ...
