Having troubles every step of the way on new iMac setup
Old setup...
17" Powerbook, registered my iTunes on here, all media is on 2 TB external hard drive, all photos reside on Powerbook hard drive.
That's all I really care about transferring.
I got the iMac today and it walked me through a system where I hooked up a firewire between the two, but felt like I wasn't doing it right, so stopped. My fear is my iTunes will implode or something. I have two AppleTv's and two iPhones, so I can't afford to screw this up.
Want the iMac to control the iTunes, but still want all media on the external hard drive. I want the iMac hard drive to have all of the photos for iPhoto.
At some point I was asked for a password that I never remember setting. So I couldn't authenticate. I put original install disk in, set up a password and now when I reboot it comes up with a screen asking for a password and I enter it, and it indicates it's wrong.
Wow, I'm shocked it's this difficult! I think I screwed things up when I stopped the migration process with the old PowerBook. How do I get back on track?

I'm not sure what the consequences of stopping Migration Assistant in midstream. It has a few options on what to transfer. What did you ask it to do?
Did you set up a new user on the iMac, or did MA start before you did that? If it did, it should be asking for the password from your username on the Powerbook as that was the account it was trying to migrate.
If you set up your new iMac with a different username and password, it was probably asking for the password for the user you were migrating from on the powerbook.
Does it log in and then ask for the password you can't remember or is it the log in password?
I can't remember all of the options and messages MA has when you migrate a fresh system, so I really need more details on each step to really figure out what went wrong.

Having trouble transferring music from old PowerBook to new iMac
I'm having trouble transferring my iTunes music from my old PowerBook to my new iMac. Trying to follow the online instructions by using an external hard drive to transfer from one to another.
Hi Skingz,
Welcome to the Support Communities!
Is the external hard drive that you are working with formatted for Mac OS Extended Journaled? Is there enough space on it?
The process is the same regardless of the operating system you are using:
OS X Mountain Lion: View information about your disk
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11086
Formatting erases the contents of the external drive so be cautious. Also this process is for any application, not just Aperture:
Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3509
Try the steps in the article again.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
If you are still not able to copy the library to your new computer this way, then the alternative approach would be to copy the music folder from your old computer to the external drive, and then add the music folder to your new, empty iTunes library on the iMac. You'll have to recreate your playlists, etc, but at least you will have the music.
Adding music and other content to iTunes

I hope this information helps ....
Have a great day!

Having trouble installing windows 8.1 on my new iMac using boot camp
Hi,
I'm having an issue with trying to install windows 8.1 on my iMac.
OS X Yosemite version 10.10.1
iMac (27-inch, Late 2013)
3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
1TB Storage
I'm getting the error:
"Boot Camp only supports Windows 7 or later installation on this platform. Please use an ISO file for Windows 7 or later installation."
I purchased and downloaded the Microsoft Windows 8.1 Upgrade Download from snaggstuff.com... I guess I'm wondering if it's an ISO file or if it's not is it possible to make it an ISO file?
Not sure what to do. Please help.
Thank you in advance,
-HeatherIt depends on your uses. See > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3321 Windows 8 works properly in Boot Camp, always that your iMac is compatible > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US You can only use the 64-bit Windows 8 edition.
Respecting to your processor, you may want to contact with Apple, as they may have sent you the iMac with a wrong processor -
I have tried every step in the trouble-shooting list, and nothing helps. What should I do?
I am having this same issue. I have avoided updating it for months and now that I finally did this is what happens!! My Ipod goes into charge mode, but then as soon as iTunes opens up to sync it says it knows there is an ipod connected but does not recognize it and it will stop charging and just go to the main screen that comes up when you turn ipod on. I even tried Uninstalling and reinstalling like it says and that doesn't work. When I uninstall it, it will let my ipod charge when I connect it to computer. But as soon as I install iTunes again and try to connect it, it tells me the same thing. Now I know why I never update to newer versions, so angry right now. Apple needs to fix this problem cause I've had my ipod for less than a year!!

Is anyone having trouble with internet on the new macbook air and an old modem?
Is anyone having trouble with internet on the new macbook air using an old modem?
I live in NYC and have an old modem/router and keep getting kicked off the internet. I have time warner as my internet provider.Hello there adell723,
I suggest taking a look at this article we have named Troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues in OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6 found here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628?viewlocale=en_US.
Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly
Your Mac may not not stay connected to your Wi-Fi network reliably.
Your Mac may stop accessing the Internet during use.
Solution
Use these steps if your computer disconnects from its Wi-Fi network unexpectedly.
Check your range to the Wi-Fi router and reduce the effect of interference. If your computer is too far from your Wi-Fi router or your environment has too much Wi-Fi interference, then your computer may not detect the Wi-Fi network properly. The easiest way to check for range limits with your Wi-Fi network is to move your computer or your Wi-Fi router closer together and make sure that there are no obstructions (such as walls, cabinets, and so forth) between the router and your computer.See Potential sources of wireless interference for more information about interference and solutions.
Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network. If your computer works fine when connected to a different Wi-Fi network, then the issue may be related to your network router or ISP. In that case, contact the manufacturer of your router or your ISP.
If you have Mac OS X 10.8.4 Mountain Lion installed then I would recommend using Wireless Diagnostics tool which is on your computer already.
Here is the article for it and how to use it to assist with wifi connectivity issues.

I'm having trouble staying connected to the internet
I'm having trouble "staying" connected to the internet.
hmmmmmmm..........
How are you connected to "the internet?" There are many ways & you provided none.
If wireless, are you using one of Apple's routers, or a 3rd part one? If the latter post in their forums or contact their tech support department.
Last but not least:
Please detail all you have done to resolve your issue. Need this information so that the users can avoid the "been there, done that" scenario type responses. This is to avoid repeating the troubleshooting you may have already tried. Thank you. -
Hi I am having trouble with iMessage on the mac book pro, it doesnt sync with the ipad and iPhone, both the ipad and iPhone do but not on the mac book pro , has anyone any suggestions, thanks in advance
First, make sure that all your devices are using the same Apple ID in iMessages including your Mac. Second, your messages that you've already started on your devices will not show up on your Mac - only ones that you start from now on will show up. Third, if you're still not syncing accross all devices, make sure you read the directions on the first page of this thread. It should work after performing those steps. Good luck!

I am having trouble getting mail from the shaw server that my new iMac is connected to. I have to reboot the system to get Outlook for Mac to access the system and obtain new messages. Any ideas? Its at the point where I have started using the PC again as its less trouble.......
In Firefox 3.6.4 and later the default connection settings have been changed to "Use the system proxy settings".<br />
See "Firefox connection settings" in [[Server not found]]
You can find the connection settings in "Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection"<br />
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select No Proxy -
Having trouble threading frames, getting the wrong loaded cursor, not the chain-links
Hi there, I am trying to thread frames, which hasn't been an issue for me previously. The cursor usually shows the chain link icon when hovering over the second frame, but today it is showing a square icon and when I try to click into the the second frame instead, it tries to create a new text frame. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
i had put the two text boxes on different layers before to show that they were separate frames, they actually live on one layer together.

I'm having trouble updating my apps. the message that appears is that the security code of credit card is invalid. already talked to the operator of the card and everything is ok.
The address on the billing statement from the credit card company must match the information that you have filled in on the fields in iTunes when you set up the account. In other words you cannot abbreviate in iTunes if the information for you billing address is not abbreviated on the statement that you get in the mail. If the statement lists your street as "Street" and you type in "St." - that can cause issues. If that's not the problem, sign out of your ID, restart the iPad and sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again. -
