Having two site on iweb?

Is it possible to run and publish two sites on one iweb account? I have a laptop and a tower both with iweb and have two different sites on both computers. I was wondering if I can merge the two sites on to one computer with out disrupting either iweb and still be able to publish to two differnt .mac accounts. Is this possible? Any help is greatly appreciated!

martinic283:
Yes, you can publish to multiple dotMac accounts. You just need to set your account up on your Mac before publishing in the .Mac Preference pane and log on.
As far as the two different sites, you can do that but you'll have to rename one of the Domain.sites files t o something else and then use iWebSites to manage the two. There's no way to merge the two sites into one file. But iWebSites makes it so very easy to have multiple sites in separate files and move between them. It's like iPhoto Library Manager for iWeb. I have a number of individual sites that I manage with it.

  • Having two sites on a server other than MobileMe.

I have my website hosted with Host Excellence. I've built two separate sites through iWeb. I continue to upload the second site to the mobile me server. I want to upload it to the Host Excellence server, but before doing so I want to be careful I don't mess up the other site I already have uploaded there.
Under my publishing settings on iWeb I set it to publish to an "FTP server" and for the site name I have that set for the domain name of my first site which is "digitalyoureview.com". I have the "user name" set to what Host Excellence told me to set it to and I'm using the "password" they have given me. For the "website URL" I have that set to "www.digitalyoureview.com".
How do I set the "site name" and a "website URL" so that iWeb knows where to send my files on the Host Excellent server without replacing my other site? At this point I don't have a separate domain name for the second site.
    Thanks!
    Pat

The companies that sell you domain names use wholesalers. For some reason, most of these are in Australia. The ones I have dealt with are Tuscows and Melbourne IT.
When you transfer a domain name, it can take a little longer if the original retailer uses a different wholesaler from the one you are transferring to.
Once I had to transfer a domain name for someone from Yahoo to Host Excellence. Yahoo's tech support is so hopeless that I had to go straight to the wholesaler and they completed it in 24 hours.
Most people seem to go for the seemingly cheap domain registrations by companies like GoDaddy and Yahoo. They don't think to ask how much these guys are going to charge you when it comes around to renewing them.
Host Excellence charges $15 per year. Yahoo will cost $9.95 for one year and then $34.95 per year after that.

  • How to manage two sites from iWeb

    Hi all
I've built two different sites with iWeb, my personal site which goes to my .mac server and publishes there, no problem. I now have built another site for my girlfiends family business, and theirs will go to a differente host and server.
The problem I have is that I have both sites now open, each with their own individual pages, etc (they both appear on the left column as headers), but I can't seem to isolate them for publishing purposes. In other words, I'd like to publish my site to .mac, and my girlfriends site to my hard drive for eventual upload to their server.
When I go to publish, whether I select .mac or my hard drive (publish to another folder) it selects both sites at the same time, I.e. I can't publich them individually.
The problem is that I end up with a copy of my personal webpage files on my hard drive, and a copy of their webpage files on my .mac!
A further problem I see is that this publishing process creates just one index.html file, for both pages. So how can I use this html file to point it to their domain??
    Appreciate the help, thanks

To add another method to the mix here's how I manage multiple sites. Although they all go to my .Mac account this method can let me post any of them to any other server as I see fit.
One way to handle multiple sites is to use iWebSites. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files. If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want to where I want.

  • Problem having two sites

I was having an issue a few months back with one of my user accounts, and the only solution was to create a new user.  But I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get my iWeb site to tranfer to the new user.  So my workaround was to create new pages under the new user, and go back into the old user only when I absolutely had to make changes.  This worked fine since November, but now I see that my newer site -- which is a subsite to my main domain -- is now defaulting as the main page on my website.  This is bad!
How can I merge my iWeb sites from the two users so I can avoid this problem?  I realize that Mobile Me is going away, but I'm hoping to solve this problem today.

To merge your sites, use iWebSites.

  • How to have different accounting for VAT of suppliers having  two sites?

    Hello Sir/Ma'am:
    Currently we are having 3 tax rates - VAT-0, AA-12, BB-12. [(N) Tax Managers>Tax Configuration>Tax Rates]
    Vat-0 is for non-Vatable purchases.
AA-12 is for 12% Vat on AA site purchases.
BB-12 is for 12% Vat on BB site purchases.
We opted to use these rates depending on the invoice and site we entered in the Payables.
So what we did, we just choose what rate that is applicable to an invoice thru TAX CLASSIFICATION CODE column at the Invoice Lines. The LOV shows the 3 rates we made.
But it only gives the 1 recoverable tax accounting combination from what we defaulted. As a result wrong accounting will be given to the others.
How to have a different accounting for recoverable tax (VAT) for AA and BB?
    Thanks,
    Emgee

I already found out a solution for my query. thanks!

  • I'd like to edit my site from iWeb on two computers, is this possible?

I'd like to edit my site from iWeb on two computers, is this possible?
I started creating my site on a PB 15", but when I'm home I like the speed of my iMac and I'd like to continue the editing process on my iMac but I can't find the files that iWeb saves.
I'd ideally like to save my site on my 30gig iPod using it as a hard drive between both. I would love for this to happen but I can't find the files saved by iWeb. Is this even possible?
I've even tried linking my PB to my iMac via firewire as a hard drive. No Luck.

I think iWeb only recognizes the 'domain.sites' file so while you can set up more than one site, they are in the same project.
Of course, the workround is to move the domain.sites file out of the default location, which them makes iWeb create a new one. You can then work on any number of projects, only moving the correct file into the default location for work on each one. Not elegant by any means, but until someone suggests a better way (or Apple produce a more flexible version of the software) it works fine that way.

  • Using iWeb to publish to two sites separately

Here's my situation: I purchased a Family Pack .mac so I get 5 sites. I will use one for my own use, my wife will use one, and my son will use one.
We would like to use one of the two remaining accounts primarily to put up a website for a friend of ours who is working as a missionary in Africa.
So on my wife's computer, we want to use iWeb to build two sites, publish one in one .mac account and publish the other in another .mac account.
So far iWeb keeps publishing them in the same account.
    Any ideas?

The easiest thing for you to do would be to create a separate account on your wife's computer for this additional .Mac account that you wish to publish to. You can add this System account under System Preferences>Accounts. Then log into this account and add the additional .Mac information into the System Preferences there. Launch iWeb and create your page. When you publish, it will be published using the extra .Mac account.
This way...no juggling of Domain files. No switching back and forth of .Mac account information. Just log into the separate account to edit and publish this separate website on this .Mac account. Then your wife can log back into her own account to edit her own websites. Easy.

  • Want to have two sites on .Mac made with iWeb

I have two folders on my iDisk in the Sites folder with different names. How do I get two different URL's for each website.
So with two folders each titled different can I use the folder names like
    http://web.mac.com/foldername/welcome.html
    http://web.mac.com/foldername-1/welcome.html
Just got iWeb the other day, I've been using DreamWeaver so I'm new to this simplicity. I'm used to working on Linux webserver too. My old URLs used to be www.name.com/index.html and so forth now this .mac subdomain is tricking me out
    Any help is appreciated.
    Internet Wiz™

I think everyone will want to know how to do this. I am intested in working on more than two sites and publishing them not on a .Mac account.
What I have begun to do as a work-around is to label the sites by the domain name (xyz.com and abc.com) and then publish them to a separate iweb folder.
Of course the gotcha is that when you publish to an external folder you need to set the url - so each time you publish to a folder you need to set the url correctly for the domain you are working on.
Once published to the iweb folder you then upload the indvidiual files for the particular domain and you are set.
Too bad you can't work on mulitple sites, just highlight the site you want to publish to a folder and then have only that site published.
This is how I expected it to work.
    hope this helps,
    Dan

  • I'm having difficulty publishing via ftp to Machighway, I suspect this has to do with the fact I seperated my webpages into 3 sites in iWeb. Can any one tell me how to undo this in iWeb?

You'll have to describe in detail the workflow you're using to upload to Machighway and any messages/warnings that you get along the way.  Also what version of iWeb are you using and are you publishing just one of your sites?

  • Iweb publishing?? Two sites causing headaches!!!

ok someone may have figured this out I am new to Apple but love it!!!! The issue and question I have is I have two going to have 4 sites in Iweb which they say is fine!! Now the issue is!! how can you publish just one of the sites!!! I do not want to sit and wait for all the sites to publish to get to the last one and have to deal with deleteing the others to get to the new one its very frustrating and if there is no way around this I will be so disappointed!!!!!
    George

Yes I know it only updates those pages changed if your updating to .MAC but I have my own hosting service and have no need for the .MAC stuff. I also saw what you where talking about as far as moving the sites around... but when you go to publish the new site or a new page it publishes all the sites in IWeb. Example im building 4 sites...I want each site in a differnt folder because each person has differnt hosters...so they are all in IWeb I create a new site I want to publish it to a folder called "williamssite" well its publishes ever single site in Iweb to that folder. I have searched and searched and this seems to be just how Iweb works....wich to me kinda *****. LOL I love my Mac but if your going to let people create more than one site then let them publish only the ones they want to where they want. I also so where someone said well jsut create a new user profile for the sites...I dont want to have to log into four differnt profiles just to work on a webpage...
I know its nothing we can change but hopefully Apple views these and will see the error of these ways

  • Tried to edit my site in iweb, gave me two homepages.. help?

hi prob a real noob question but i published my site with iweb and decided i wanted to change the theme and when i published my new site it created a new site thats not my homepage, my homepage is still the original theme, when i view my site from option box after publish it shows new site but its not my home adderess in my URL box its basiclly myhomepage/myhomepage/home.html when i go to www myhomepage com it shows my old site.... any help would be the greatest before i clean out the FTP and load fresh, its pretty big... that seems like the long way tho... thanks!

okay after a little more poking around and research i found that ( i think ) this happened due to me transfering my site to local folder then uploading using iweb SEO, when you publish a entire sight with iweb it creates a new folder in you root that is named after the sight name you added when setting up ftp.
So i now have my site loaded in to my filemanager twice, if i make changes in iweb and "publish changes" it changes the "second" site which nobody see's because its not my real homepage URL ,like i said nobody looks at this except me when i click "visit my site" after publish and it takes me to my revised webpage. Which fooled me untill i went to my site via bookmarks.
http://www.mysite.com/home.html                                (real site up and working)
http://www.mysite.com/my_site/home.html                    (the one iweb revises thats not my real homepage)
in effect iv'e lost the ability to publish just my changes in iweb, i now have to publish entire site to local folder and upload entire site via iweb SEO (which must be done anyways to add/keep meta's and titles but i haven't assingened them yet)  this overrights my real website, but is ALOT more time consuming everytime i want to make some small changes, HOW DO I FIX THIS???/
ive read of renaming the site in the ftp setup in iweb to your "default" page but i can't figure that out.  Any pointers would be so appricitated THANKS

  • More than one site with iweb - now my original site forwards to new one

    Could anybody help me please?!!
Right. I set up a portfolio website using iweb with a domain from ipage, and that was all fine. Then a few months later, I have set up a website for my Mum's artwork with a new domain bought through the same account on ipage - because ipage allows you to have multiple domains.
Now that I have set up my Mum's site, my own original site just forwards straight to my Mum's. I have checked loads of times that I've entered the right web addresses etc in the bit for the info so that's all correct. I don't know what else to do now. I don't speak the code lingo and am quite basic in my website building knowledge...
Please if there is anyone who can tell me what to do, I'm guessing there's probably a simple solution to this!!
    Thankyou!!!
    Josephine
P.S I don't know if my version is iweb '08 but it was the only iweb one to select in 'product' options..

Here's how to have multiple sites in a single MMe account with one or more sites having a domain name.
    A. All sites are in the same Domain.sites2 files
1 - only one site can use the CNAME method of domain name forwarding and it must  the top site in the left hand pane of iWeb.
2 - the other sites must use URL domain name forwarding which directs the domain name to the site's full MMe URL, http://web.me.com/MMe_Username/Site_Name,  or, if there is no domain name, just MobileMe's full URL.
    B. Each site is in its own Domain.sites2 file.
Again, only one site can use CNAME forwarding.  This presents a problem since CNAME forwarding directs the domain name to the basic MMe account URL: http://web.me.com/MMe_Username/ which uses an index.html file in the root folder of the account, iDisk/Web/Sites. Each time a new site is published or an existing site uses the File->Publish Entire Site a new index.html file is created in that root directory, iDisk/Web/Sites folder, directing the browser to that particular site.  This file is what the CNAME method uses to find the site it represents.  Therefore some steps must be taken to assure that the index.html file in the MMe Accounts root directory always points to the correct site.  This can be accomplished is three ways.
1 - don't use the CNAME method.  Just use  URL forwarding .  This, IMO, is the simplest method as it doesn't requre any additional effort on the user once the domain name has been set up.
2 - use the following method suggested by Wyodor in this topic: Is it possible to have multiple sites when using ur Domain name?
    In iWeb domainfile 1:
Create a dummy site : _dummy
    with a blank page.
Create your working site : Whatever
    Add pages
Publish both Sites to the same same location on the same server.
Your _dummy site is now the default Site.
    Check.
    In iWeb domainfile 2:
    Create/Use your CurrentSite.
Move a page to the top of the Site and back. Publish the Site.
iWeb will create a new index.html file in the root of the server and from now on CurrentSite is the default site.
    Check.
From now on, never move your Whatever Site to the top of the list in the iWeb sidebar and never change the page in the _dummy site.
Simply do not touch your _dummy ever again. And never forget that.
3 - use Ethmoid's suggested method in Using two sites - setting one up with separate domain? or republishing the entire site that uses  CNAME forwarding.  Just making a minor change and publishing the site changes does not create a new index.html file.
The entire site must be republsihing in order to get that new site.
Or keep a copy of the CNAME site's index.html file on your Mac and replace it manually in the iDisk/Web/Sites fodler when necessary.
NOTE:  the CNAME method provides a shorter URL:  http://www.Domain_Name.com/Site_Name/Page_Name.  CNAME does not have masking.
The URL forwarding displays the full MMe URL:   http://web.me.com/MMe_Username/Domain_Name/Page_Name.   With domain name masking that will be shortened to:   http://www.Domain_Name.com for every page of your site.
However, with masking visitors will only be able to bookmark and enter at the first page of the site.  If a page is refreshed the visitor is taken back to the first page.  Also search engines will only be able to index the first page of the site.
As you know MobileMe will be discontinued next June 30th.  With at in mind this might be of some interest to you at this time: Life After MobileMe.

  • How best to handle multiple web sites using iWeb 08

I currently am using iWeb08. I am maintaining two websites; The church site resides on a Rogers server. I use Transmit as a FTP loader. The other site is an engineering society's website that is posted on Apple's server. I have an ME account just for the latter group. iWebsites is used to alternate between the two sites. The church group has a .ca web address.
Is it worth upgrading to iWeb 09? How does iWeb09 handle 2 websites? I wish I could publish both to the Mac account but have not figured out how. I must retain the rogers account for viewing the church site
Has anyone deleted iWebsites from OX10.5.6? How was it done? I know that backups are mandatory before attempting these changes.
    Thanks,
    Bill

In its current form, iWeb '09 doesn't handle publishing well at all!
I keep all my sites on separate domain files, each in their own folder. Any site is launched in iWeb by double clicking the domain file. I start each new site from a new, blank domain file.
I keep all my website folders in a folder in a second dock so that I can launch any site with two mouse clicks - faster than you can launch iWebsites!
You can publish as many sites as you want to one MobileMe account but you can only have domain name forwarded as Cname. Any more have to use masking with all its inherent problems.
I would be more inclined to dump MobileMe and publish both sites to a decent hosting company.
The new iWeb '09 FTP works for some. I have tested it with my server - Host Excellence - which doesn't force you to upload to a Public_html folder and this goes as planned.
Having said that, I still publish to a local folder as I optimize and upload my files using Web Site Maestro. Once you have published your site for the first time, this application will then use its Smart Handling feature to process the changed files only.
Unless all your viewers use Macs you have to optimize to get your pages to download in that browser that all the Fred Flintstones of the world use.

  • What happens if I delete a site in iweb?  site still on the web? system?

B/c of my various issues i'm having since upgrading iweb, I created two test sites on iweb09. I was able to upload them to the web and to a folder.
I deleted both. Later, I created another test site with the same name (site 2). I noticed this one was acting weird.
I'm wondering what happens to the sites after they are deleted.
    1. Are they available on the web?
    2. Are they somewhere else on my system that I should make sure to delete?
    Thx.

Deleting sites inside iweb does not have any effect on what has been published on a server or to a folder on your local drive. It just changes what is in iWeb's domain file.

  • Two sites one problem

    Hi all,
I have two sites I have published using a domain name I purchased. Site is hosted by mobileme. My first site is my companies website. The second site I created is for a client both get published to mobileme. The problem I am having now is that when you type my companies name www.trainbetterllc.com instead of being directed to the business site you get sent to the site I set up for my client which is password protected. I can no longer tell people to go to www.trainbetterllc.com because they will be taken to this password protected site. Instead I now must direct people to www.trainbetterllc.com/trainbetter_llc/train_betterllc/html. Is there a solution to this so I don't have to give the long drawn out address?

Thank you it appears your solution has worked. One thing I forgot to mention in my earlier post is that I use an app called iwebsites to switch between editing the two websites; initially I was concerned that this might be responsible, but after going back into iweb and going to my main business website and clicking publish all it appears that just typing in www.trainbetterllc.com directs me to the correct website. Thanks again for sharing you knowledge.
