HCP with BOBJ

Hello,
I am working on HANA Side car scenario, my scenario needs following:
- Integration with on-premise applications (SAP/non-SAP)
- Reporting in BOBJ (Dashboard, Design Studio, Webi etc.)
I am considering to use HCP as clients needs fairly small HANA footprint however I couldn't found anything in architecture and documentation which explains how to integrate BOBJ with HCP (using HANA Cloud Integration or VPN?). Can we also deploy BOBJ on Cloud so that performance is better than on-premise BOBJ.
I tried to search this information but unfortunately couldn't found, I presume with DB service of HCP native HANA development is allowed.
Regards,
Gourav

Hi Gourav,
Reg: BOBI based reporting capabilities on HCP: As of today, this is not available. The only option is to build generic style reporting (SAPUI5 UX) based on
XS or JAVA and embed in HANA cloud portal service.
HANA DB service: Yes. XS engine is available in this option to build native applications. But it it is a good idea to understand in detail before choosing between DB/App service in HCP.
One option: there is SAP lumira cloud . We use Lumira server on top of HCP already internally.
Second option: If there is strong demand for BOBI based reporting, then HEC (like AWS) is another option where a private cloud is hosted with HANA and BOBI.
Hope this helps.

  • Star with BOBJ

Hi guys, my company just bought BOBJ license. Our bosses still don't know for what exactly it'll be used, nor when it'll be used. I'd like to start looking through this stuff since in our company nobody has experience with BOBJ and it's obvious that some day we'll have to use it and I also would like to have. May be it'll be the third party company that would give us a workshop or something, but i don't want to wait.
My question is where should I start, what are the core BOBJ tools that will be definitely used in by a SAP BI consultant in the future (we have a SAP BW system for warehousing)
In one question, where to start and what should be the thing I'd have to learn?
    Thanx a lot

    Hi,
"I installed the Businesosobjects X3.1 and i can't seem to find Crystal Report nor Dashboard Builder or Xcelsius?"
BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 is a report design and distribution platform. It is comprised of:
    - Client side (Windows) product
    - Server side components
    - Third-Party integration-enabled options
Crystal Reports Designer 2008 is a Windows product. You need it's installation media and a valid license key to install in on machines that will be used to build and publish Crystal Reports.
Dashboard Builder is present/embedded in BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 but you need:
    1. "Seperate" Dashboard Builder license key
    2. Setup its seperate repository
Xcelsius Designer 2008 is again a  Windows product. You need it's installation media and a valid license key to install in on machines that will be used to build and publish Flash (.SWF) dashboards.
Since you are from SAP background, I presume your reporting and data visualization needs are on SAP data sources. For this to happen, you need to install  "BusinessObjects Integration Kit For SAP XI 3.1" client-server specific components on top of BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 platform.
Additionally, you may want to take a look here

  • Can GRC AC 10 be integrated with BOBJ ?? Is Plugin available for BOBJ

    Hello Gurus,
We are currently implementing GRC AC 10 for ERP and EP , we have found the plugins for both .
The client requirement is also to implement it in their BOBJ system .
We tried to search the plugin in the marketplace but could not find one.
Does anyone knoe if it is possible to integrate GRC AC 10 with BOBJ ???
If yes , is there any config document or any info link , please let me know.
    Thank You.

    Hello Simon,
Thank You for your reply !!
But can you please provide me little more information .. e.g) we want that using the functionality of CUP (compliant user provisioning) , using various forms the end-user should be able to get access in the BO system.
    Is that possible ??
If the plugin has to be custom developed by the "vendor" you specified" , how do we contact them ??
or do we have to raise this issue with SAP ??
Humbly requesting you to guide .
    Thank You.

  • BW hierarchies issue with BOBJ Reporting tools

    Hi All,
    Brief about the requirement:
Our client was using Mainframe and other tools for their reporting. Now as they have planned to go for SAP, purchased SAP BW 7 and SAP BOBJ XI 3.1 for warehouse and reporting purposes.
Initial Road map planned for implementation was
o     to use Crystal for operational and formatted reporting
o     to use WebI for Ad hoc and interactive reporting
o     to use Xcelsius for Dashboards
Once we started analysing the requirements, we observed that client requires hierarchies extensively for reporting and they donu2019t want to compromise in that for reporting. At this situation we have explored the options and came to know from the SAP sites that BO got limitations in case of BW hierarchies. But we not able to articulate the what is the exact issue. Is it with only WebI or Crystal also?
What we have articulated is we cannot report the hierarchies in BO in terms of nodes - > Sub nodes -> sub nodes instead we can do as fixed columns. Please add me if i am missing anything else.
And also please let us know options. Options that we were thinking are Implement with BO XI 3.1 considering Advanced analysis tool then upgrade to BO XI 4.1.
Please suggest us, what is the BW & BO hierarchy issue and right tools to use.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Bala

Our client uses XI 3.2 but is experiencing issues with Hierarchical BEX queries returning blanks - the mdx is fine - just webi that seems to have a problem and I'm also trying to determine in exactly which instances this occurs.
XI 4.x supposedly resolves mots issues but here again details are not known.
I.e. hopefully someone can point to an info source that describes in more detail what issues are likely to occur re hierarchies and webi.

I have many process, and the times of update are short.
Now, with the nes version the times are very large. The consuption in the server resources (CPUs and memory) is very large.

  • Configuring BW Publisher with BOBJ Edge

I will be configuring the BW Publisher on an Edge server and therefore will be servicing all three SAP systems with a single server. In the past I've always set this up on three separate Enterprise servers, one for each BW system.
I've been trying to find information that will explain how to pull this off. Does anyone know if and how this can be done?

    Ingo,
The installation guide only describes how to set up the BW Publisher to work with a single SAP Gateway instance. How do you configure the BW Publisher to work with multiple instances of the SAP Gateway? I'm assuming I'll need three instances, one for each envioronment, correct? Is it simply a matter of installing three SAP Gateway instances and configuring each environment to communicate with a specific instance?

  • How to expose a SOAP web service from HCP

    Hello All,
Currently I am trying to create a SOAP web service within a HCP Java application to allow backend systems to consume data stored in HCP.
    This is the planned scenario:
    1. Create data in HCP - therefor I am using JPA and a oData Model.
    2. Backend uses web service to consume data from HCP - with this point I do have some problems.. I do want to create a SOAP web service in order to achieve this.
Is there an easy way to create a SOAP web service in HCP? There are many tutorials in the internet of how to create a SOAP web service in 20 sec´s, but non of these helped me. I do was able to consume a SOAP web service in HCP coming from the ByD, but the other way around seems pretty complicated...
Can I make use of the Eclipse functions to create a web service? (New --> Other... --> Web Services --> Web Service and than choose the Button up Java bean Web Service type)
Have any of you some coding snippets that would probably help me out?
I have unsuccessfully tried to use the @WebService, @SOAPBinding, @WebMethod notation in my java classes...
    Thank you,
    Swen

    Hello Nedelcho,
Yes. All the required jar files are in the lib directory.
Currently I am able to create a web service locally.
But when I deploy that to the cloud server my JPA service is not working any more.
    Receiving the following error message:
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?><error xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/metadata"><code/><message xml:lang="en">javax.naming.NamingException: Error while attempting to resolve reference [Root exception is javax.naming.NamingException: Cannot create resource  object instance due to exception in the object factory [Root exception is javax.naming.NamingException: Data source 'jdbc/DefaultDB' not available.]]</message></error>
    The web.xml contains the following:
    Any advice?

  • Poor Performance with Webi on top of BW - Large Navigational Attributes

We have recently developed a reporting model based on having a BW cube of approx 20 million records. This has 2 very large line item dimensions (one 14 million records, on 6 million records) that both have navigational attributes stored against them.
We need the design to be like this because the attributes change monthly and we do not wish to do a complete drop and reload of cube data each month (this takes 10-12 hours).
When we build a Universe on top of the cube and try Webi reporting the performance is dreadful - many reports time out completely. This happens whether or not the large line item dimensions are selected in the query. The BW query is very simple just 2 key figures and approx 30 Navigational Attributes as default values. No filters are applied.
For example a query that just contains Calander Year and one key figure either times out after 10 minutes or fails.
Our source of the data is Oracle tables and the same query runs in 2 1/2 minutes and the query runs in RSRT in approx 5 minutes with no problems so it is definately a problem with BOBJ to MDX to BW.
We are on BW7.01 SP5 and XI3.1 SP2. SAP have recommend going to SP3 and using query stripping to help with this but I doubt if this will work.
We have tried building aggregates, splitting into yearly cubes etc but nothing seems to help.
My question is do the large navigational attributes mean Webi simply can't cope with this?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the suggestions.
Although this did not directly help I've now found a solution.
We had a calculated key figure in the query that doing a count of records on a huge navigational attribute. This was causing all queries to run very slowly (even if the key figure wasn't selected in Webi).
Removing it solved the problem. Will have to find another way to  do the count key figure.
    Thanks

  • How to know the version of BOBJ enterprise installed

    Hi all,
I am pretty new on business objects, my background is as SAP Basis Admin, with long experience on ABAP and JAVA, but with BOBJ I have had a very simple problem.
It seems to be very confusing to know which version of BOBJ enterprise I have installed, when I check the product version on CMC it says that we have 12.3.2.753, but how do I match that with the version that are mentioned in SAP notes and documentation where they talk about XI 3.0, XI 3.1 or XI 3.1 with SP2.
Could somebody tell me which is the real version of BOBJ that I have and how can I match with the SAP documentation and notes?
    Thanks,
    Zareh Vazquez

12.3.2.x means XI 3.1 with SP3 and Fix Pack 3.2

  • BOBJ reporting on spread sheet and BeX Query

    Hi,
We have a BOBJ 4.0 report currently reporting on the SAP data (Developed on BeX query). The historical data (3 years old- 13 MB) for this report is provided in Excel.  Is it possible to have one report that reports both the excel data and the BeX query data.?
    Thanks.

    Hi Vinothini,
With BOBJ 4.0 this is very much possible to create webi reports on mulitple data sources.
Use Webi Rich Client to create report on Excel ,
Create a BICS (BEx connection) to your BEx query for report on your BEx Data.
Use both the Data sources as two queries in your Webi. You can merge them accordingly.

    Javed

  • New BOBJ 4.0 Implementation, impact to existing BW 7

    Hello all,
We're in the preliminary stages of getting our BOBJ 4.0 Implementation project going.   I had a question for which I haven't been able to get a straight answer on.   Background Info:  we have an existing BW 7 system with approximately 500 users, low to moderate activity.  We plan to deploy BOBJ mostly for Dashboards and drill down capabilities; the user count is not expected to increase any time soon, only the number of reports.
I have gone throught the sizing exercise for the BOBJ piece, but I haven't found anything which tells me what kind of additional load I should expect on my BW backend systems due to this new implementation.  Does any one know how this is determined?  Or if there's any impact caused by the integration of BOBJ to the backend BW systems?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jose

    Hello,
there will be impact depending on how you use BOBJ. If you use a lot of On- Demand queries from BOBJ against the BW the load will be during business hours. If you use the Scheduling option of BOBJ the reports will be refreshed after the BW is loaded.
You cant really determine the new load which is coming with BOBJ. Report design is here also key. If the Reports fetch may to much data as original needed the load will be also more on BW side.
I would recommend you are upgrading your BW to 7.3. With this release the BOBJ tools can use the BICS interface natively. This will be much faster.
    Regards
    -Seb.

  • Two BOBJ on same server

    Hello.
    We use the such landspace:
2 GRC NW portals (7.0 EHP1) which are connected to 2 BOBJ portals (3.1 XI SP3 FixPack 3.3) on the same server.
First GRC portal with BOBJ (name BOE) is for development purposes. There are the DEV systems.
Second GRC portal with BOBJ (name BOP) is for productive purposes. There are the PROD systems.
I use the separate port numbers for BOP.
Working schema is: GRC portal takes and use Crystal reports from BOBJ. CR reports on BOBJ was published before from GRC.
No problem in DEV systems. GRC works correctly and successfully opens CR reports from BOE.
But in PROD system we have this problem: GRC couldn't opens CR reports from BOP.
    Error message was occured:
    Error in RAS Connction.
com.crystaldecisions.sdk.exception.SDKException$SecurityError: Unknown entitlement system: PRMCLNT200. Logon cannot proceed.
    at com.crystaldecisions.sdk.plugin.authentication.sap.internal.SAPR3Error.ThrowException(Unknown Source)

         at com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.security.internal.LogonService.doLogon(LogonService.java:337)
All settings in PROD systems is correctly and similar such as DEV.
SAP Authentication in BOP works correctly (Roles imported from ABAP GRC part).
I think problem occured because we use 2 BOBJ servers (BOE XI 3.1 SP3 FixPack 3.3) on same server. And we have some limitations therefore.
If I'm right, I have the questions.
Is there are some limitations during simultaneous work of two BOBJ systems on the same server?
    regards,
    Yessen Sypatayev

    Hi Yessen,
This error message could occur if you removed any entitlement from your Prod server without removing the Roles associated with it. Let me know if that is the case.

  • How to stop BOBJ 4.1 SP4 to not prompt for the latest JAVA update

Currently our my users are on a version of Java that is supported with BOBJ 4.1 SP4.  Each time Java releases a new security update, users are being prompt to update Java to its latest version.  We cannot go beyond this current version as it will break other applications within our business.  This isn't the first time I have seen this behavior with an application, in the past we have asked Kronos to accommodate this request from within their code which they were able to do.
This is definitely at the application level, its not as if I can go into 'Control Panel >> Java' and update this change there, the applications overrides this.  After opening a case with SAP support, we are now being told this needs to be handled by the development team, that it is not in scope of support nor is supported.  They mentioned that SAP Development Consultants also can assist with such a custom setting like this.
    Can someone please assist?
    Bill

    Svatos,
As of Sept 2014, if you are running IE 8 or higher you will now get another pop-up is JAVA is NOT updated.   The NEW pop-up is Microsoft vs SUN issue, it has nothing to do with SAP anymore.
