HD 6 TB ON A MAC BOOK PRO 13.3 MID 2010

I would like to know what is the maximum capacity can I use in an INTERNAL HARD DRIVE.
I am willing to use a 4 TB (WD  OR SATA 3.5" ) or 6 TB SEAGATE.
Also I would like to know when buying a new HD if just the installer CD is enough or if it is necessary to be FORMATTED.
Any other information in regards to that are welcome!
I appreciate your information in this subject.
Maria

Maria,
The largest internal drive that I know of is the HGST Travelstar 5K1500 - it will fit in your MacBook Pro.
If you have the installation discs that came with your computer you can install the new drive, boot from disc one, format the drive and install the operating system.

  • Mac Book Pro 17-inch Mid-2010 memory compatibility

I have a Mac Book Pro 17-inch, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8GB 1066 MHz DD3 RAM. The RAM consists of two 4GB modules. I was just wondering if I can upgrade the RAM by putting DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz SO-DIMM PC laptop memory module RAM. Will it work?

Buying RAM off eBay is probally the worst thing you can do.
Not only that, it's some off name brand RAM made for PC's, so it's likely to cause issues or fail in the Mac, which the seller might not respond for a exchange or refund.
Inexpensive RAM is usually lower quality and more prone to not working but might so it's pawned off to third party resellers to appeal to the cheap crowd willing to work more to get their machines running.
Opening up the MacBook Pro is delicate work with fine screws that need to go back into each exact hole they came out of. The more you have to open it, the more potential damage can occur that is not covered by AppleCare or warranty.
If you want perfect RAM the first time, without having to keep trying over and over which costs you more money and headaches, buy the RAM directly from the manufactor here
    http://www.crucial.com/mac/
When your looking at the RAM approved and tested to work for your machine, you can opt to spend more for the higher speed RAM however it will only work as fast as your BUS speed (aka: "Mhz") of the machine.
Benefit of the faster RAM is it will max the bus speed, whereas the matched speed spec-ed RAM can be a bit slower than the bus speed.
If your not into serious performance of the machine, then just opt for the most used spec-ed RAM speed.

You can't really rely on sensor software to determine if something is amiss whether it be by temperature or fan speed. What you can do is run the hardware test that came with the Mac, if you suspect a hardware issue, or take it in for service. There is no place where Apple actually discloses the normal internal temperature or fan speeds that I've seen in its regular user documentation. The software which gives you such measurements can only give you a user established guideline based on user experience, and not one of any Apple established limits. Too often people try to control based on software that gives fan or temperature readings, and actually damage their Macs more inadvertantly because they don't understand the entire nature of how the computer has a self-regulating temperature engine.

  • New hdd 1 TB for mac book pro 6,2 (April 2010) osx 10.8.3

I am quickly reaching a full disk (500 gb) in my MBP and I am looking for a new internal HDD of at least 1 TB. What are the best options available ?
Power consumption is an issue (I think I want to avoid 7200 rpm) and reliability is another issue together with cost (that is why I am not considering an SSD - such as corsair).
Anyone has a suggestion of a specific internal hdd I could use ?
    thanks

I have these HGST HDDs in my MBPs:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145875
I now use these for external storage and were replaced by the former as internal HDDs
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145459
I have found both to be satisfactory as internal HDDs.

  • Mountain lion and the problem it causes. How can I watch my Mac book pro mid 2010 on my TV passing through an amplifier for 5.1 sound?

    Hi guys,
before Mountain Lion came out, I had my Mac Book Pro mid 2010, nicely connected to my DENON AVR-1912 amplifier through HDMI. The Amplifier would send the signal to the TV and manage the Audio as well.
Since Mountain Lion came out, I could not anymore use my iWires HDMI cable to connect my MacBookPro to the amplifier, as my Mac would not recognize anymore my amplifier as a TV and therefore would not give me the display option that it used to give me with Lion. Result- I can not adjust the signal that goes through the HDMI cable and the signal is not recognised by the amplifier and then  transmitted onto the tv. NO SIGNAL
So I went to the apple store and was told I could use the Apple tv 3rd Gen to do that. So I bought it, and went back home. After having installed and realised that it didn't worked as well,  I've called the Apple customer Service. They told me thta unfortunately, since I have a Mac Book Pro bought in mid 2010, I can not benefit from the mirroring function (Come on an i7 processor is absolutely good enough to do that). I asked if I could upgrade my Mac to a machine able to do that as I need this functionality. I was told I can't. I have to buy an other machine and sell mines through their recycle program....
So I returned my apple TV 3rd Generation, and decided to buy a VeeBeam HD. This product says that I can easily stream from a Macbook Pro with an i7 and 4Gb of ram to my TV. However, when the Veebeam arrived today, I tried to install it... and it didn't work, why? Because Apple has changed some "protocols" and does not allow anymore third party companis to produce products that stream data from Apple products to a TV.
So... my dear Apple, how am I meant to watch what I've got on my laptop (movies, music and stuff) on my TV going through my Amplifier now? It really seems I can not go by cable (the cable Apple sells- iWires), I can not use the Apple TV3rd Gen, and I can not use third party products.
    IS this normal to you?

  • I have a 2010 Mac Book Pro with OS 10.7.5. How do I upgrade to 10.8 (Mountain Lion)?

I have a 15" Mac Book Pro purchased new in 2010. I'm currently on 10.7.5 and would like to upgrade to 10.8, which I think is Mountain Lion. Am I correct? and how do I do that? I can only find info on upgrade to Mavericks.
I have been advised by my local Authorized Apple Repair tech that I should not upgrade to Mavericks until I complete the migration of my HUGE website from iWeb to another software (wordpress). He tells me Mavericks doesn't work well with iWeb because that software is going away.
I'm also concerned about the news about the problem with the shell called Bash and want to protect my laptop by getting any fix for that problem.

All recent versions of Mac OS X use bash, so avoiding Mavericks won't help you with that problem (which isn't a problem for most users).
iWeb is another matter. My advise: migrate your website to Wordpress first and start thinking about upgrades later.

  • Using multiple desktops with a 4 finger swipe on a Mac Book Pro running Lion- is there a way that I can allow Safari open on several but not all??  Looks like I can set it for one but not others.  All, one, or nothing

Using multiple desktops with a 4 finger swipe on a Mac Book Pro running Lion- is there a way that I can allow Safari open on several but not all??  Looks like I can set it for one but not others.  All, one, or nothing

    Hey Eric,
Thanks for taking the time. Unfortunately no that does not solve it. Same as swipe it will get me there and it will show separate programs spaced out. The issue I am having is that all my open word files are bunched up in a pile on top of each other. I can see the edges of each one but I want them to be separated from each other enough that I can visually identify what file is what.
Again, thanks for trying, it is appreciated.

  • I have a new mac book pro which i use in england but I need to use German charachters frequently, is there a way of having both visable on the keyboard?

I have a new mac book pro which i use in england but I need to use German charachters frequently, is there a way of having both visable on the keyboard?
For example so that I can just press shift or another key to get the German character.

Some may already exist, but you will have to learn them.  On my old system these can be found through keyviewer.app  For example, if I press option+s I get ß   Umlaut is a bit cumbersome as option+u then the actual letter.  It may be possible to bind a key to do this function, possibly through System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts
I have old, old references for utilities that let you rebind keys to other functions, and you would have to see if they have modern equivalents.
Ukelele Mac OS X Keyboard Layout Editor - http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page.php?site_id=nrsi&id=ukelele - mostly useful for character, not function mapping.

  • Mac Book Pro constantly displays spinning wheel of death HELP!!!

My Mac Book Pro (after installing Mavericks) displays the spinning wheel of death multiple times per day. I thought it was my Google Chrome, but now it has been happening no matter what application I am using. I used Etrecheck to see what is going on with my computer, but I don't actually know what the output means. I've copied the information below.
More information: I no longer have a Blackberry, but I don't know how to remove any software that may still be on my computer (since I see Blackberry listed under Kernel Extensions). I also backed up my harddrive on the 28th, just to be safe.
I would greatly appreciate any and all help with this. I'm in the process of trying to study for mulitple teacher certification exams, so this is the worst possible time for tmy computer to suddenly go haywire. Thank you so much to anyone who takes the time to help!

    kmiddlet88,
yes, it could be due to nearly anything listed in your kernel extensions, startup items, launch daemons, launch agents, or user items above. Please check all of your installed third-party software to make sure that the versions which are installed on your MacBook Pro are compatible with Mavericks; uninstall every software package which isn’t Mavericks-compatible. After you’ve done that, boot into Safe mode, and see if you still get the beach ball of doom there. If it doesn’t appear there, restart normally and see if it appears then.

I have tried to install Windows 8.1 64 on my new Mac Book Pro from a full install disc. When I get the the choice of partitions to install Windows 8.1 on the Windows installer says that the Bootcamp partition is not valid.
Has anyone encountered the same issue?

BCA creates the partition as FAT, which the installer needs to format.

  • Greetings world.I have created a dmg. of my entire iomega ext HDD via disk utility using a mac book pro. It is currently sitting on the desktop. I have erased the iomega and now I can not understand how to put the dmg back.

It is safe to say that i need help..................
let me start at the beginning.
I have 1 2008 imac. always a pleasure never been a problem. Attached to it i have an iomega 500gb ext drive. also been ok.
    until now!!
The HDD would not mount. Disk utility suggested that it was ok so i tested the imac HD. I got error code 4MOT/2/40000004: HDD- 1502. This doesnt worry me at the moment.
I attached iomega to my Mac book pro and again it would not mount. The disk utility did tell me that the iomega needed repair. it advised that i should wipe it and restore.
So I used the MB Pro disk utility to create a DMG. and saved it to the desk top. I then erased the iomega. did a repair and it all seemed ok. So then i try to do a restore.
After a very long time it said internal error with the dmg. using disk utility i did a convert dmg (compressed) and saved it to the iomega. middle of the night job!!
got up this morning and indeed it had sent the DMG to the iomega. But i could not open it. The iomega itself seemed dandy asking me if i wanted to use it as a time machine etc and it mounted ok and i saved a small jpeg to the iomega as well. I then thought that maybe when i did the convert as a compressed file i made a mistake. i'm guessing it should be a read and write so i started all over again.......... wiped iomega (which was quite quick) then tried the convert tool again.....it trys for a while then says there is not enough disk space...........I'm not sure which disk it is refering to.??
I have purchased a 1tb hard drive today incase the iomega is some how full up.
So really my question to the world is .........Help?

well no reply from the community. sniff- do i stink!? - probably a little bit. If i have lost all that data then I'm gonna really really pong.
Any ways i have purchased a 1tb usb HDD and have managed to duplicate the dmg file onto it. however still unable to mount the **** thing. so now i have ordered disk warrior which will be in my possession tomorrow.
    fingers toes eyes crossed.
