HD Capture ish

I am capturing HD through firewire and a HD JVC Camera. Ussually it capture fine but lately it has been only capturing 00:00 to 00:15 seconds of each clip; and some clips are over a minute long. I have open hard drive space and I am not capturing to an external hard drive. Any suggestions?

I can tell you lately many capture posts have been because of issues with some firewire connction and in combination with upgrading OSX and FC. I can't help you with your brand of camera but I have had plenty of capture issues over the last month. I have had an issue with my Sony V1U HDV stopping every 1-2-3 or 4 minutes almost on the exact minute frame in random patterns and I'm not sure it is over. I'm going to re-format my edit bay when I receive the new FSC2 next month and cross my fingers it all works. Did you just update OSX or FC?

  • MDT 2013 won't capture 8.1 image, does not boot to PE to capture

    I am doing this with Server 2012 R2 and MDT 2013, and the reference machines are VMs
    I initially created a deployment share for creating windows 7 and windows 8.1 reference images and capturing and deployment worked ok. After getting into some more details i customized the deployment share customsettings  to make things easier and created
    a separate capture share for capturing new reference images. I updated permissions on the share so my service account has access to it.
    In this share i imported the windows 8.1 os files and copied the sysprep and capture task sequence i used to capture my first reference image [from the original deployment share], but when running the task sequence it reboots and just goes back into windows,
    instead of windows PE to capture the image.
    I copied a windows 7 capture sequence to the capture share, imported the windows 7 files and updated the task, and it rebooted into PE without a problem and copied an image. so I don't believe I have any permissions/customsettings problems with the new share.
    Im not seeing any errors jump out at me in the bdd.log but I'm new-ish to going over the logs and using MDT to start with so I may be missing the obvious. I am using SMS trace and dont see any red/yellow highlites either.
    In windows 7 i did have the vm in audit mode when i mapped the share as an admin and started the task sequence. In windows 8.1 i am not in audit mode [after doing some research and learning more about using MDT it did not seem necessary]
    After comparing a run of the windows 7 task to windows 8 i see the boot.wim copied to the win 7 vm, but i dont see it on the win 8 vm. There is a partition created, i cant see data in it when i show hidden files.

    Thanks for your reply.
    The pc is not in the domain when i run litetouch. It was joined after install, then i run some local gpos/scripts against it, install all of the shared printers from servers, then i put it back in a workgroup, login as the local administrator, delete the
    domain profiles and guids in the registry, briefly connected back to a domain server [not with a mapped drive] to copy a couple of files, rebooted into the local admin account an ran litetouch.
    After running litetouch.wsf the first time in the windows 8.1 pro vm [no changes, but manual connection] it rebooted without sysprepping or taking an image
    I deleted the task sequence and created another one with "sysprep and capture" as the sequence.  i made no changes to the task sequence. did all of the above, ran litetouch, and it just reboots. sysprep does not run and windows pe does not load.
    if i run sysprep and boot into audit mode [as a test, since my windows 7 vm snapshot was in audit mode when it runs litetouch.wsf], then run litetouch, sysprep works, then it DID capture an image, but after that image was capture and the VM rebooted, i got
    this error when loading windows 8
    "windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer, restart the installation" and if i hit ok it will reboot and error out again.
    Haven't had any issues with that VM until now.
    I reverted to my snapshot and just ran sysprep oobe w/ generalize to see how it would react
    it failed, setuperr.log shows SYSPRP failed to remove apps for the current user. some searching gives me information on that and makes me think its related to adding/deleting user profiles? i dont actually use or update the apps at all, i have a deploy task
    that removed most of them and customizes the start screen and those seem to work without issue.
    found this as my reference: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2769827/en-nz
    Sysprep has an additional provider that is added in Windows 8 to clean appx packages and generalize the image. The provider will only work if the Appx package is a per-user package or an all-user provisioned package.
    and
    Resolution
    The correct way of removing the package is to remove the package for the user running sysprep and also remove the provisioning. This can be done using the following Powershell cmdlets:
    Import-Module Appx
    Import-Module Dism
    Get-AppxPackage -AllUser | Where PublisherId -eq 8wekyb3d8bbwe | Format-List -Property PackageFullName,PackageUserInformation
    if i run that i get a lot of
    [unknown user]: installed
    Do I just need to revise my process and start from scratch? or at least just never actually join the domain and user other profiles? thats a convenience thing so its not a big deal, really.
    I have an image made in a similar way that works, but doesnt have quite all the updates/changes i wanted. It captured [at the time] fine and installs without issue
    Heres an overview of what I do [i am open to some revisions on this]
    -deploy windows 8 base install from MDT
    -join domain, login with service account [just makes getting to some things easier]
    -install office 2010 pro plus w/ sp2 [i do understand that these can be set as an MDT app but the install takes a while and i dont like waiting on it if i dont have to]
    -install windows updates [no WSUs server currently, on my future to-do list, not my decision right now and i do understand the benefits of having one]
    -connect to servers and install all network printers [we have so many that i dont want to wait on the drivers when we do a big roll out soon]
    -install oracle software [i can get it to automate in windows 7, not 8, so i dont want to manually deal with it post-install]
    -install adobe reader/java [i do understand that these can be set as an MDT app]
    -leave domain, reboot, login as local admin
    -clean domain profiles/registry guids
    -make some local gpoedits [we dont have 8.1 enterprise and just want the start screen locked down]
    -install our AV network agent
    -lite touch.
    any advice is appreciated

  • Any way to get rid of the drop shadow on Screen Captures in Leopard?

    i do a fair bit of procedure documentation work, and so use screen captures quite a lot. Since upgrading to leopard the screen grab tool now puts a 77(ish) pixel white border and drop shadow around the screen captures, which might look trendy for some things, but for the stuff I am doing is just annoying, and something that I have to remove from all of my screen captures.
    Is there any way to turn this "feature" off.

    There's a Terminal tweak that I got from Mac OS X Hints here:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080629181121863
    You just copy-paste a line into Terminal.app and after a restart the cursed shadows are gone!
    If you do a Command-Shift-4 then hit space for a window grab, then grab the Dock, then there's apparently a single funkiness with this fix, in that the resulting image in this specific case (of the Dock) is stretched horizontally. I haven't seen mention of any other side effects, and otherwise it's working fine on my system, but be aware of that.
    The Dock shows up fine in any other type of grab, so since I never take a picture of just my doc using the grab window function, I'm more than pleased to use this and get useful window shots back again.
    Hope this helps!

  • Hi8 Capture Box Import

    I have recently bought a canopus advc 55 to attempt to import all my old hi8 footage into fcpx. Its connected to the computer via fw and the box in turn via RCA.
    When I attempt to create a camera archive, every so often it will just record the first 3:33 ish minutes of the tape, continue to show me on screen the rest of the footage but not transfer it. Also sometimes when it gets to the end of the tape FCP would just crash and the archive would not be recognisable as there is no metadata.plist file within.
    After waiting 90 minutes for it to record and discovering it hasn't is not only an annoyance but a collosal time waste. For the second issue, I have found copying any old archive plist file seems to placate fcp as the video footage is within the cotainer but FCP just does not recognise it.
    Has anyone else had this issue with the advc 55 or any analogue digital converter? I would have thought maybe the converter box is faulty, but it does display a video feed during import without any horrible stuttering or any other interferance; however this has left me rather confused and frustrated. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    I'd like to add that I have succesfully imported my entire mini DV collection over iLink/fw without issues in the most part, although often I get messages when importing from the camera archive that clips are still referrencing media on the tape, are these dropped frames?

    Problem is, we're not sure if FCP X is really set up to capture non-timecode tape.  It may be FCP X is not reading any FW based timecode coming in (which Hi-8 doesn't have).  I'd recommend using Quicktime Player to import it.  FCP installs QT Pro, so you should have a "New Movie Recording" option in that File menu.  Also be sure to set it to record from your Canopus in the QTPlayer preferences first, too.  Then import the resulting QT files into FCP X.
    I'm confused as to if you are Importing your footage, or creating an Archive?  Don't worry about an Archive until you've captured all the footage first.
    Again, no one I've spoken with has any idea how FCP X handles dropped frames when capturing from tape, so again, I recommend folks use QTPro (Player) to capture.
    As wonderful as FCP X is right now, it is a version 1.0 of a new application, and is full of annoying bugs.

  • Lumia 1520 Purple Tint Issue/Video Capturing Issue

    Hello all..Just got my 1520 yesterday and found out video captured at low light contains purple-ish/pink-ish color around the corners. So I went back to the Nokia store and ask for change, but turned out all three devices tested also having the same issue. The staff said this is the quality of low light video, nothing's wrong, and they cannot change a new one to me.
    I went and do a testing on the gradient color map and turn out the gray colors are indeed show as purple, exactly the same issue on my old N8, just this time is even worst, it's affecting the quality of the video.
    Besides, checked on few videos on youtube, some of videos having same issue too...
    Anyone else having this problem? Reckon the issue due to software or hardware? Thanks.

    If your doing testing indoors where your using CFL light bulbs i think its a know feature
    even my eyes did it yesterday when i stared at a CFL light bulb and looked away hehe
    but hey i might jsut be mad :¬)

  • NEF vs. DNG : Different renderings in Capture One 4

    I've just observed that -- when I convert a D200 NEF > DNG, and then import both to Capture One 4, the renderings are slightly different ... both of them with default settings.
    I select ICC profiles for NEF > D200 Generic , DNG > Neutral.
    DNG is darker than NEF.... not uniformly daker, but just some parts... like different curves applied.
    Same Kelvin values (WB) applied to both files give different results -- DNG needs lower Kelvins degrees to look like the NEF.
    NEF Reds are orang-ish in DNG. DNG yellows are orang-ish in NEF.
    Something I'm not sure how to describe, but it looks like differences in color brilliance between the two files.
    If I select ICC profile for DNG > D200 Generic , then the same applies, only that now DNG looks more saturated than NEF.
    For reference, Lightroom renders both files exactly identical.
    So ... is this something related only to how C1 renders both files (C1 not knowing how to manipulate a DNG), or is it related to the DNG conversion itself (adobe playing god with the raw data) ?

    Honestly, I can infer from your posts by SIMPLE READING only that you are confused and speculating a lot.
    I try to put the results in cleartext:
    1. C1 creates result A from the native raw file.
    2. C1 creates result B from the DNG file converted from the raw. B is different from A.
    3. C1 created result C from the modified DNG file. C is different from A AND from B.
    If the above is right, then we can say, that
    a. C1 CAN work with the pure DNG data, which includes the color conversion Adobe's way. The modified DNG differs from the original DNG in that the camera name (maker and model) has been changed, AND the MakerNote tag has been made unaccessible, and this file has been accepted by C1.
    This is in contrast to some other raw processors, which accept a DNG file only if they know the camera's characteristics; see the thread "Is DNG a universal raw format?" down below.
    b. C1 DOES take some information from MakerNote if available, otherwise these two version would yield the same result.
    The originating question was, why the "native" and DNG result are different. Based on the above test, I can not answer it with certainty, it is not clear, what C1 uses from MakerNote.
    Now, to the question of "DNG - standard or not".
    The DNG specification tries to put many aspects of a raw image in a uniform shape. However, there are two distinct areas posing problems:
    1. Camera specific options. The Exif specification provides for a way of recording sharpness, contrast, saturation and white balance, but the specification has been created very short-sightedly and became useless. Other options, like Picture Style has not been envisioned at all. Such options are coming in series, the DNG specification does not cover them.
    These options are available in the native raw file as well as in DNG, but programs have to make extra gymnastics to extract them from DNG; NOT DNG is to blame in this point.
    Some raw processor go the extra way, others don't. ACR does not make anything, which can not be seen in DNG format as well, i.e. it does not support these options.
    2. The other problem area is the color transformation. There is *no* generally accepted way to describe the sensors' behaviour. Most raw processors adopted camera and model specific solutions; Adobe defined a way in DNG, which is an *approximation*. Others don't share the enthusiasm, with some justification. It is not by chance, that camera makers' own converters give the best colors of their cameras.
    So, a raw processor can process a DNG file using the hard-coded knowledge of the sensor - like Aperture does - or going ACR's way of color transformation.
    C1 may take some setting(s) from the native raw file, while not doing so with a DNG, even if the data is available (but differently). This may be the reason for the difference between the results of the NEF and DNG conversion.
    Note, that it is not necessary to access the MakerNote for identifying the camera.

  • Video capture and system properties

    Hello,
    Two questions on mmapi and video capture:
    1. On a Samsung SGH-A707 phone, I get a return of 'false' when running
    System.getProperty("supports.video.capture"), indicating that it won't
    allow video capture thru mmapi. However, when running
    System.getProperty("video.encodings"), it returns
    'encodings=video/H263'. Isn't this a contradiction? If it doesn't
    support capture, why would it show an encoding? Does the return of false
    absolutely mean that the phone doesn't support video capture?
    What am I missing?
    2. On an LG CU500, I get a return of 'true' when running
    System.getProperty("supports.video.capture"), indicating that it will
    allow video capture thru mmapi. However, running
    System.getProperty("video.encodings"), it returns 'encodings=jpeg'. How
    is jpeg a video encoding? Isn't this only for snapshots? Do they mean
    motion-jpeg?
    These are both new-ish phones, and both support video capture natively
    (outside of java).
    Last question: How widespread is support for video capture thru j2me?

    Hello there,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
    I have recently bought a fifth generation ipod, and have used the video capture feature.
    First of all, this should have been posted in the +5th generation iPod Nano+ forum instead of the *5th generation iPod Video* one. Here is the link to this forum for future references.

    When I sync the ipod to itunes on my mac, will I lose this video capture?
    No. Videos you take on your iPod have to manually be removed from the iPod either through the iPod itself or by opening up the necessary folders and files on your iPod through Windows Explorer.
    And if so, how can I sync the ipod to a new itunes library without losing the video recording I did on the ipod?
    Why would you need to worry about this? Was your nano previously synced with another iTunes library? If not, all you should have to do is hook it up to the new iTunes library and you should be good to go. For instructions on how to remove videos from your iPod, see pages 55-56 of your iPod's manual, which can be found below.

    Hope this helps.

  • Any suggestions on how to capture some old hi 8 tapes?

    I want to make a video montage for my parents but i need to capture from some old hi 8 tapes. Any idea how i can do that into my laptop? I realize the quality is not going to be very great but it's old footage from family reunions and what not that would be great for the montage. any suggestions are appreciated.

    Your EASIEST thing is to use a sony D8 camera... TRV730 ish series... 7xx 5xx 3xx etc. They play Hi8 and Digital 8 tapes both out via Firewire.
    Your next step is to use any other DV cam with FW and "PASSTHRU" abilities. Most, but not all cameras have this. You can put yellow video RCA and a single (or double) audio RCA into the camera, and then feed it out via FW.
    Third -- google CANOPUS and take a look at their stuff. A AV/DV converter box like that will set you back somewhere around $300us.
    Once that's all hooked up ready to go, just remember to TURN OFF device control -- use a non-controllable device setting for capture into FCP.
    Good luck,

  • Problems editing large-ish avi

    I have an avi file that is 43.2mb. It plays in windows media player absolutely fine. However when it is imported into premier it doesn't play back hardly atall. The first frame is 'frozen' and the sound jumps about. I have tried exporting the un-edited file as an avi to test if it is just the playback, and the exported file plays exactly the same in windows media player as it does in Premier (ie, broken sound, frozen frame). I have come to the conclusion that the problem lies in premier rather than the file...seeing as the original files plays fine in wmp...but I dont want to jump to conclusions.
    Any ideas?
    I have also tried cutting a 7 second segment out of the original avi in premier and playing that/exporting it at as an avi only to have the same problems. I have also tried exporting it as a 4mb flv file only to have the same playback.
    Thanks
    Anna

    Large-ish avi:
    A duplication house was kind enough to convert a digi-Beta tape to file format for us. Two problems though, they used Wee-Willy-Winkie's super freeware capture program and provided us with two 180GB AVI's compressed with the FRWU D arim Vision Forward codec.
    Thanks to GSpot, I was able to determine the codec and then find it available for download. Unfortunately, the codec wouldn't install on our 64 bit Vista system. I was able to get it to work on our 32 bit system and was finally able to see video on the timeline.
    This all happened because the dup house didn't follow my instructions which cost me about 4 extra hours of troubleshooting and workarounds.
    Premiere CS4 opened the 180gb file without issue. If we weren't in a time crunch, I would make them do it over.
    Basically my file is about 4200 times larger than your large-ish file.

  • Unable to capture packets on ASA(ASDM)

    Hi all,
    We have site to site VPN connection to one of our client. From which we both are accessing our applications and other resources. Now client needs to acccess two of our internal server. So we have created Static NAT in our ASA. For one server they are accessing without any issues. But the other server they are not able to connect. Since its vpn tunnel we havent blocked any ports and its open to all traffic. But their side they have restricted and we need to see whether the packets hitting our ASA or not. Once we observes this, its easy for us to escalate them. I tried packet capture wizard in ASDM. But its not showing anything. Can anyone tell me how to capture packets realated to Static NAT. Please let me know if you want anyother details?
    local 20.0.0.0/24 -->this will get natted to --->12.0.6.0/24 when going in for tunnel
    we have created
    static(outside,inside) 12.0.6.10 20.0.0.10 255.255.255.255 working
    static(outside,inside) 12.0.6.11 20.0.0.11 255.255.255.255 not working, we need to check whether its hitting 12.0.6.11
    Kindly advise...
    Regards,
    Bala

    Where are you trying to initiate the connection from?
    If they are trying to initiate the connection towards your end, and the traffic doesn't reach your end, then there will be nothing on your ASA packet capture.
    Please share what you have configured to capture the traffic?
    To check if the traffic is reaching the inside interface, just configure ACL between source (real IP) and destination (remote IP), and apply the capture on the inside interface. This will confirm if the traffic is coming inbound towards the inside interface.
    To check if the traffic is leaving the inside interface towards the host behind your ASA, configure ACL between source (remote IP), and destination (host real IP), and apply the capture on the inside interface. This will confirm if the traffic is leaving your ASA inside interface towards the host.

  • Unable to capture video with MSI StarForce 822 GeForce 3!

    I have a MSI StarForce 822 GeForce3 graphics card with 64 MB DDR SDRAM on it. I have VGA Out, as well as TV-out (AV), TV-out (S-video), and TV-in(?) (S-video).
    This brings me to two questions:
    First, I have NEVER been able to figure out how to use the TV-in (S-video) port. I have tried numerous programs designed to capture video, including the one that came with the graphics card, and none of them recognize the card's TV-in. Do you have any recommendations as to how to use this port to capture video?
    Second, in reading through the online manual for the graphics card on the company's website (under the name G3 Pro-VT64D MS-8822), I saw that the card supposedly has the capability of "High-quality HDTV/DVD playback" (8822 v2.0.pdf, page 8 ). However, in playing back DVD's through the card's s-video output onto my HDTV-ready monitor, I definately do not see HD quality videos. Could explain why this is the case?
    I have an assignment coming up where I must do some video-editing work, and thus I am posed with a situation where I need to capture video using this card (and I can't afford to buy something new for the moment).
    Thanks for your help.
    Charles Bergmeier

    If you have the Video Capture Driver installed then the video capture program should see it. On MSI site version 1.16 of the driver is available for download.
    If you still have problems (e.g. too many frames lost) you can try using Virtual VCR (worked best in my case).

  • Unable to Capture PAL DV footage

    I'm working on a project that requires I edit with both PAL and NTSC footage shot on mini-DV. I was about to purchase a plug-in to convert the PAL footage to NTSC, but find that I can't even capture the PAL footage to begin with.
    I tried using both a deck and a camera as the source device to capture from and they both play the tape just fine and on the camera's LCD (not a PAL camera by the way), I can view the footage perfectly, but still FCP does not acknowledge any video on the tapes.
    I've even tried capturing on iMovie-it tells me that the footage can't be captured because it is 'half-frames' and mentions LP and SP modes. Would this really matter and why does my camera play it just fine?
    Also, when I play the tape on the camera and plug-in to a television, the picture keeps rolling, but again, plays perfectly on my non-pal camera.
    I've tried switching all pre-sets to PAL, but it doesn't help.
    I'm about to make a dub tape with a PAL camera (Sony Z1U) and see what happens, but if anyone has any other suggestions, I'd really appreciate any help.
    Thanks.

    I have never seen an NTSC camera that plays PAL tapes!

  • Unable to capture return values in web services api

    At the time of login to web services if my server is down ,
    it returns following error :
    java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -1
            at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1438)
            at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1411)
    I want to capture this error so that i can try another server to login. how do i capture this error
    Another place where i want to capture the return Value is when i look for a report on the server
    rh = boBIPlatform.get("path://InfoObjects/Root Folder/"src_folder"/" + reportName +
                               "@SI_SCHEDULEINFO,SI_PROCESSINFO" ,oGetOptions);
    oInfoObjects = rh.getInfoObjects();
    CrystalReport = (CrystalReport)oInfoObjects.getInfoObject(0);
    Here if the report is not there on the server , it returns a null handler exception.
    but if i try catching it by checking my responsehandler is null  like rh == null  it does not catch it.
    Any help will be appreciated
    thanks

    Ted : i have two cases
    1)   server = server_st.nextToken();
        providerURL = "http://"server"/dswsbobje/services";
        sessConnURL = new URL(providerURL + "/session");
       Connection boConnection = new Connection(sessConnURL);
       Session boSession = new Session(boConnection);
      EnterpriseCredential boEnterpriseCredential = new    EnterpriseCredential();
                  boEnterpriseCredential.setLogin(userid);
      boEnterpriseCredential.setPassword(pwd);
      boEnterpriseCredential.setAuthType(auth);
    SessionInfo boSI = boSession.login(boEnterpriseCredential);
    I have got a list of servers running web servcies stored in my tokens. when i pass the first server name say " test:8080" and that server is down , i want to catch somewhere in the code above that it did not get the connection so that i can loop back and try with the second server say test1:8080
    This is for failover purposes.
    at present when i was trying to capture return value of boSI it  breaks giving the error
    java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -1
    at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1438)
    at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1411)
    2nd case :
    I am geeting reports from the server and scheduling them:
    i run the following code which works fine if reports is there
    rh = boBIPlatform.get("path://InfoObjects/Root Folder/"src_folder"/" + reportName +
    "@SI_SCHEDULEINFO,SI_PROCESSINFO" ,oGetOptions);
    oInfoObjects = rh.getInfoObjects();
    CrystalReport = (CrystalReport)oInfoObjects.getInfoObject(0);
    Here if  the  report  is not there on the server  then i should be able to catch from the response handle rh that it has got a null value.
    but rh does not return a null value
    the code ultimately throws a null handle at the following line
    CrystalReport = (CrystalReport)oInfoObjects.getInfoObject(0);
    i am not able to catch the null value there also.
    hope you got my issue.

  • Unable to capture data in an editable dynamic ALV.

    Hi ,
    I have created a dynamic editable ALV whose displayed structure can be changed at runtime based on the selection in a drop down list value selector.
    Im trying to capture the values entered in the ALV into an internal table before the user changes the structure of the ALV to a different structure.
    In the ON_SELECT event handler of the drop down list box , im rasing a data_check event to capture the ALV data.
    The problem is that the control is not entering the event handler for the data_check event.
    If i raise the data_check event in my save event handler or any other event handler , it works fine.
    Can someone please suggest a solution.
    Regards,
    Newton.

    Hi ,
    I have figured out that the problem is local to my machine , because the code works fine on other machines.
    I guess my internet explorer has some bug.

  • Unable to capture audio

    Hi,
    Last week I updated the drivers for my Blackmagic Multibridge extreme. Now when I try to capture the material in FinalCutPro 5.1.4 I can see the picture, hear the sound on my monitors (they are connected directly to Multibridge), but the captured material doesn't have sound, because it takes the sound from the internal audio input. I tried to capture from Blackmagic Deck Control (an external application) and it works fine, it captures with sound. So I suspect I have to change the audio input in FCP, but dont know where. In audio/video settings in FCP everything is set to DeckLink (Multibrige extreme).
    Where is the problem?
    Thanks,
    Simon

    Thanks for the reply.
    Looking at system preferences I found that audio input was set microphone. Don't know how it happened. I switched it to DeckLink and now FCP displays 16 input channels in Log and Capture dialog. I didn't try to capture yet but I think it solved the problem, because before I had only two channels displyed.
