HD clips have video stutter after import

New problem with Sony HDR-SR5 import:
2 of 10 clips from recent vacation have video stutter/jerkiness upon import. All other clips are fine. The two clips that stutter in iMovie 08 play fine on the videocamera. I have never seen this before. I have reimported the abnormal clips, but no change. The audio is okay; it is just the video Any ideas?
Mark

*How comforting* ( for me alas ) to find I'm not alone with this problem.
Config: iMac-Intel - 2,16MHz, 1Go RAM, 320Go internal drive, 500Go USB external drive, OS-X 10,4,11 ( Tiger ) IMovie 7,1,1, SONY HDR-SR5E
My first few imports worked fine, then Imovie started to quit and 2 other movie sequences were corrupted ( stuttering image ) no matter how long they lasted or which HDD I decided to store them to.
Apparently other posters have signaled this to Apple, but that unfortunately does not help us getting on with our respective work.
It would seem there are only 2 solutions while we wait -
FCE = hand in wallet, or
Just copy the files from the SONY directly to a HDD location and wait for the Imovie issue to be solved.
Maybe unplug my Firewire Presonus Firebox ?????
All futher comments and possible work-arounds welcome naturally.

  • Movie clips have wrong time when importing

I use to rename my images before importing to iPhoto. I copy them from my camera to a folder in the desktop, rename everything to my like using Adobe Bridge, and then I import them to iPhoto. That way the name of a file usually corresponds to the one in the internal Library (control-freak as I am). That said, I never mess with the Library.
But I'm having this problem all the time: After importing, all the image pictures are listed on the event accordingly to their correct date/time, but the movie clips are not. They always have an irregular variation in time, sometimes with a difference of several hours, that I have to change manually using iPhoto "adjust date/time" to have them sorted ok chronologically. The strange thing is: that EXIF data is correct in Bridge! I even use this to view/reference the correct time in Bridge, and change it on the movie file already imported in iPhoto.
Could this be a bug in iPhoto, or is there something wrong with my way of importing? Again, it happens only to the movie files, not the images.
    Thanks.

Thank you. I didn't know that.
But still, for me it's a common issue to have iPhoto reading a wrong "File Created" data on my imported movies, even though it seems to be OK on the original file. Does it ever happen to you, know about that issue? Sometimes I have ten or more movie clips in an event and it's a bit of a hassle to restore manually the correct time for each one.
Maybe it's Bridge fault, maybe it's iPhoto, maybe my workaround is the only answer to this "bug"?
    Thanks again.

  • Clips in wrong order after importing

    Hello,
I have a digital Sony camcorder HDR-SR7E. I had a 7 day trip and filmed a lot. When i was importing it to imovie all seemed fine but after importing it all the clips were in the wrong order. And i belive there is no way of sorting the clips or is there?
I found something called pane reliever for imovie but the download link is not working. Or maybe someone else has any experience with this kind of a problem.
Thank you very much for any replies,
    Madis

And i belive there is no way of sorting the clips or is there?
Not from within iMovie '08. You can however, download and open a utility called "A Better Finder Attributes", close iMovie '08, open the problem events folder, drag and drop your imported clips to the utility, change the "creation" dates and/or times, and then re-open iMovie '08. If all went well, your "Event" clips will be re-ordered during the initialization "scan" according to their creation dates/times within the event.
I found something called pane reliever for imovie but the download link is not working.
This utility appears to have been written originally for OS 8 and 9 and carried over to OS 10.1 thru 10.3 but I don't see any reference to OS 10.4, OS 10.5, or use with iMovie '08. I would stick with simply changing the Finder attributes for the files.

  • What format video clips have to be to import into ipad 2

  • Video Stutter while importing.

When I import video from a camera, I get this little stutter/pause every so often. It seems like whenever there is fast movement on the video it happens. I recently upgraded to Leopard. I installed over the top of 10.4.9. I'm not sure if this is why it's happening. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Hi
    My first thoughts.
    • Free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk less than 25GB (much less than)
    • More than 50 audio clips - Medicine. Mix audio down to one clip
    • Use of external hard disk - USB/USB2 and may be wrongly formatted
Lot's of video-clips - is not the origin - I've had movie projects up to and more of 6 hours
(Copied back to VHS-tapes - No stutter) (Maraton Vacation movies - nobody can stand to view)
    (Ponder why)

  • Why is my video choppy after importing?

    Howdy!
I am on a quest to find a video editing software that actually works with my computer, and it seems like Adobe Premiere elements is in first place so far. Which isn't saying much because I am still having a lot of troubles using this software.
I am recording myself using a webcam & I am using the Windows Media Encoder software to record. From there, I am importing my .wmv file into adobe premiere elements. Whenever I play my imported video in the main window, it lags terribly. The video will play fine for about a second, then it will only show frame by frame clips of the movie with about a second in between each frame. The audio, however, is not lagging at all.
I am confused on why this would be happening. I just recently bought a computer to record and produce music with. I spec'd it so that it could handle recording stuff no problem...however I know the one area I skimped out on was my video card. Here are the specs of my computer:
    >Model: ASUS Desktop PC M11AD Series
    >Processor: Intel Core i7-4770S CPU @ 3.10 GHz
    >RAM: 8.00 GB
    >Operating system: Windows 8.1 64 bit
My processor comes with integrated graphics, so that I is what I am using for my graphics card. It's called Intel HD Graphics 4600. I know that integrated graphics are not ideal to edit movies with, but I thought I could get away with the bare essentials to make simple movies with. However, I am getting very poor performance when I watch my video so I am thinking that my graphics card could be causing the problem.
I have seen suggestions to "Render the Work Area", which I have actually tried. It is not working on my computer. For some reason, it will not render my video! All that happens whenever I press the render button, it just plays the video....
I have also monitored my RAM when playing the video to see if I am running out of RAM...my tests showed that I maxed out around 45% Memory usage when playing the video. Isn't 45% not straining the system too much?
I also was recommended to download the program GPU-Z to monitor some outputs of my video card. There are two different fields, "Memory Usage (Dedicated)" and "Memory Usage (Dynamic)". I monitored both of these while recording and the Dedicated was at 0 MB and the Dynamic didn't go higher than 116 MB. This doesn't seem like it is straining the graphics card...this won't be the problem will it?
Can anyone shed some light onto what is happening with my computer?
Is it a software issue with Adobe premiere elements?
Any help would be much appreciated...I have 2 days left with my Adobe trial. I would really like it if I could get adobe working properly...I can justfiy buying it if I can figure out what is wrong with mine!
    Thanks,

Background Information on Project Settings (Project file aka Project.Prel)
The output from these screen capture programs can be highly problematic for Premiere Elements. Sometimes the capture output format does not import completely as well as has a variety of other workflow issues. But, before blaming the screen capture program, you need to assure that you know the properties of your source media and that you (manually) or the project (automatically) set the project preset to match the properties of the source media. Once that is done you are good to go in the Edit area, deciding between project glitches and video incompatibilities.
With versions 11 and 12, the project took over the role of setting the project preset in the new project dialog. So, typically you do not get to see the new project dialog. The default project preset is NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080i30 or its PAL counterpart. When you import your video and drag it to the Expert workspace Timeline, the project automatically sets the project preset based on the properties of the first video drag to the Timeline. Sometimes it does it correctly; sometimes not. When not, the result is not the closest fit but rather the project default NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080p30 or its PAL counterpart. More details on this are in my blog post on the subject, and writeup includes the how to on how to set the project preset manually.
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Accuracy of Automatic Project Preset (New Project Dialog) Setting
You can find out what the project has set automatically from the readings of Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio found Edit Menu/Project Settings/General.
    What Next....
Is the video properties information that you posted above and which I have summarized below those of the video that you are importing into Premiere Elements and having problems with the preview?
    1280 x 720 @ 29.97 progressive frames per second
Video Compression = Windows Media Video 9
Audio Compression = Windows Media Audio 9.2
    File Extension = .wmv
If so, please start a new project and set the project preset manually to
    NTSC
    FLIP
Flip Mino HD and Ultra HD 29_97p
For details for manual project preset setting see that information in the lower section of
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Accuracy of Automatic Project Preset (New Project Dialog) Setting
Then back in the Expert workspace of 12, import your 1280 x 720p30 using Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets from where you drag the file to the Timeline Video Track 1/Audio Track 1. When the file arrives in the Timeline, is there an orange line over its content or no colored line?
If you do see that orange render indicator line, then please press the Enter key of the computer main keyboard to Timeline render the file. Is there any difference in the playback of the unrendered vs the rendered here? I am hoping that you do not see any colored line there and that the video plays back OK since no Timeline rendering needed nor possible. But, let us see.
The part of this is for you to let us know where that other .wmv came from, the one that you say had no problems at playback in Premiere Elements Edit area.
By the way, is your web cam recognized by Premiere Elements12 and its Add Media/Web cam or WDM?
    More later.
Thanks for your follow up. I think that you have made so significant gains.

  • Sound & Video stutter after logic board replaced?

About 9 months after having my MBP, my logic board died. I went to the mac store, and the replacement went fine.
Only two days after getting my MPB back, I noticed problems with the video and sound. If I would have both iTunes and Photoshop (or illustrator or Cinema4D) open at the same time, both my video and sound output would "lock up" (freeze) for about 10 seconds, stutter for a minute or two, and then run rather sluggishly.
Since this was not normal operation, I figured I would compare the framerate I got in World of Warcraft to my old framerates. With the original logic board, I was able to pull down 40-75 frames per second and have all the sliders in the middle. With the new logic board, I have to bottom out the video settings to get a whopping 6-9 frames per second. Again, something was not right.
I brought the MBP in to the Apple store and spoke with a "genius". I was able to recreate the problems (Both the itunes/graphics heavy program and WoW fps) and was told that "your computer is working as intended. You could buy a newer one, that may fix the problem but there is nothing we are going to do." Needless to say, I left rather angry.
Since there was allegedly no hardware trouble, I decided I could fix the problem by throwing another gig of ram at the computer. This did not fix anything. As of now, my sound will degrade to a 2-second bleat of static that repeats, even after closing any sound application, and the video will stutter and freeze even when only using that one program. The MBP has also started emitting an intermittent, high-pitched "whine". This is not acceptable, and since I am using these programs daily, I need this computer to act as more than a $2000 paperweight.
    What I need help with:
    A) Is there any diagnostics I can run to figure out what is causing these issues?
    B) Is there a specific thig I should ask the people at the genius bar to look for, to ensure that the problems will be fixed?
    C) Any other ideas to keep me from throwing this computer in a tub of water?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately, not all geniuses are really geniuses. You might want to try talking to a different person, maybe through Apple Technical Support on the phone. You might be able to talk to a more senior level person that way. The difference in frame rate are striking, and it argues that there is still a problem somewhere.
Do you have 3 year Applecare? If not, you might want to get it since you are having problems. In any event, if you are close to the end of the warranty period, then you need to get a case number. With a case number, you can prove that the problem first occurred under warranty, and Apple will honor the warranty until it is fixed.
As for diagnostics, have you run the Apple Hardware Test or the Tech Tool Delux hardware test? The AHT should be on install disc #1, and the other comes with 3 year Applecare. It's possible there is a hardware issue that is causing problems. If so, you will get an error code, and that is definitely something you can take to the genius.
One thing that can be done is to reinstall the OS--a lot of trouble I know, but it eliminates the possibility of corrupted software as a contributing factor.
As for the whine, it could be either a fan or possibly the hard drive. You could download "iStatPro", a widget from the Apple site that will allow you to monitor the fans and see if the whine occurs when the fans speed up or something like that. You can also check your CPU usage, and verify that there's no background process running amok and contributing to your problems. And if the hard drive is making the whine, maybe it has a problem and is contributing to the slowness. Back up your data, just in case.
Hopefully, the more experienced and knowledgeable members of the forum can make further suggestions. But I think if you can go to Apple and tell them what you have tried and done, and maybe even eliminate some things as possibilities, it will help them to help you to zero in on what is wrong. As time goes on, these machines become ever more complicated, and not easy to diagnose.
    Good luck!

  • Help, clips "frozen" and blank after import

I imported about 7 minutes of footage from my Panasonic DV cam. Everything looked fine as I scrubbed through it and added clips to the project. I did let iMovie do image stabilization. I added a few titles, and let the project do the "scrapbook" template, and things looked great. I added a song or two, and was adjusting where they begin in the timline, and all of a sudden, my clips were "frozen". I mean, as I would run the mouse over them, there was one frame that played, and nothing else. There were 4 clips like this.
I decided to just replace them with the clips in the lower part of the iMovie window, because they still played fine. I deleted the ones that were messed up, then drug the clip back into the top part, and then they too were broken. Then, in the lower part, the same clip that played fine 5 seconds ago, is now black. (no video)
    Any ideas?

No, I didn't try restarting my computer. I don't think it will help, but I will try. I had to pretty much scrap my whole project. I used time machine to get a copy of the files from the night before. This at least saved me from having to capture all over again. (not to mention waiting on the processing time for stabilization)

  • Help!  Strange video distortion after importing film onto IPHONE.

So I used Compressor H.264 to create an .m4v file to play my film on an IPhone. For the most part it sounds and looks great. But in two separate spots this weird video distortion occurs in a part of the frame. It's like these large squares of video appear for a second or two, then disappear. The really strange part is that it's always in the same two spots. I tried re-compressing the file thinking it mignt be a problem in the pressing. Watching the files on my comp using Itunes or Quicktime player there is no distortion. But once the movie is synced onto the Iphone it's always the same result. Those wierd digital shifting cubes pop up at the exact same two spots. No matter how many times I re-compress. Any ideas? I'm at a loss and I gotta figure this out in the next few hours.

Here is an article from the apple support website that might help out.

    Hi
My aperture library have more than 15.000 images. From this on , I started to have a problem after import more images. Some of them appear blurry after import ( the metada still the same ).
I create another library , in another place and doesn't work either .

  • Scope ONE searchs fails after imports

I have a problem after import a very big amount of data. The import process (with ldapmodify) finish properly and I can retrieve all the data I imported with ldapsearch easily using a scope SUB and a filter. But if I tried to get the data using a the scope ONE it fails. Actually, it does not fail; I do not get any error. In the logs there is no information, I have re-create all the indexes, stopped and restarted the server but I did not hot any results. I am sure the problem is in the server side because I used some different clients and with all of them I get the same results ... event the Console is not able to show the data.
The version I have installed is iPlanet 5.1 SP1.
    Any idea will be appreciated.
    Thank you in advance
    Jorge Ortiz Claver

I am experiencing exactly the same problem right now.
    I am using iDS 5.0
I added a few indexes, enabled retro-changelog and ran into "retro changelog won't stop trimming" bug...
And right now performing a ldapsearch -s one will return nothing (and no errors). Consequence : can't browse anymore with de concole.

  • Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive but many are not showing up in Aperture.

Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive with import date not created date, but many of these same files are not showing up in Aperture. Sometimes the clips actually show up with the current import but take on the video information from a previously imported file.

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

  • Only have audio after importing mpeg2 video into.

After importing mpeg2 into Pre, I only have the audio portion of the file.  The video is grayed out.
If I play the imported mpeg2, only the audio plays, no video.
Any thoughts as to what is going on?
    Thanks for any assistance.
    John

    Hi Steve,
The 1080 HD video was shot with a Canon PowerShot SX1 SI and was copied over to the harddrive using the card reader built into the laptop.
The camera recorded the video in QuickTime.mov, and I converted it to mpeg2 by using FreeMake Video Converter software.  The new mpeg2 file played fine on the laptop.
I then imported the new mpeg2 file into the Adobe PRE software.  However, I only had audio and no video in the Adobe PRE. The video link was grayed out, while the audio was not grayed out. When I played the imported mpeg2 file, the video was blank red screen while the audio playing.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    John
