HD Crashed and after recovery LR Catalog nowhere to be found

I posted this on another board late last night but I am not sure that was the correct post. Forigive me if you are seeing this multiple tims but I am desperate for some help.
Our computer totally crashed yesterday after some windows update was sent out. We used a recovery program to recover what we thought was our entire hard drive but we can not locate the LR3 catalog in the recovery files. We have searched for ..lrcat files and none are showing. Unfortunately after I upgraded to LR3 I never did a back up to my external HD and the last backup I have was from 1/11 and it my LR2 catalog. All of my original pictures are on my external drive, I'm sort of anal about that, but I have spent countless hours in LR making adjustments, tagging and rating pictures that I would love to recover.I find it hard to believe with the amount of data that was recovered, that this catalog is gone. There were multiple backups of it, I very rarely deleted prior backups.Our computer even recovered cached internet files and things that had been deleted and pretty much whatever had ever been on our computer. It seemed pretty comprehensive in terms of recovery. Any ideas? It really seems like all of our information was still on our computer and I"m having a hard time believing that the LR catalogs could be missing from that data. Thanks for your help. I would really love to recover this catalog.

I have the same issue, for one or other reason did my quicktime x end up in the trash. When I try and install quictime 7 it does not allow and tells me there is another quicktime x already installed but i cant find it anywhere on my mac???

Sorry , you probably can not get them back.
You may have bookmarked them, or have them as part of the History previously stored and still searchable, but unfortunately otherwise you are unlikely to get them back. Firefox does to a certain extent back up bookmarks automatically but not the history.

Did you replace the HD yourself? If so what HD did you use?
You should be aware that the symptom you describe is likely to be because you've used an incompatible HD. The current Macs have the temperature sensor actually in the HD package, with a modified cable to connect to the logic board.
If the sensor is not in circuit, the fans will run full tilt all the time.
Also, if it was under warranty, I think you'll find you've just voided it.

My Mid-2010 Macbook Pro is stuck in a crash loop after recovery

Yesterday I have used Internet Recovery to restore Mavericks after trying out the Yosemite beta. Didn't have an extra drive for a TM backup.
Anyway, since restoring Mavericks I have an endless loop of crashes, wifi won't reconnect automatically after sleep, fans are on all the time and ReportCrash is using 100% CPU. Looks like there are 4 processes crashing.
I haven't found a solution online anywhere as it seems it's connected to Yosemite somehow, possibly some files from that are broken now. There was one case on some Chinese forum with the same issue, but no solution.
I haven't tried reinstalling again.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Did you repartition the drive and reformat before reinstalling Mavericks? Here's what you should have done:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
You may need to do a firmware update in order to do a full Internet Recovery: Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery

4k Pro Res crop/resize causing crash and corrupt recovery save

Hello,
I am working on an edit of F55 XAVC 4k footage that has been turned into pro res 422 files for an offline edit.
The edit calls for a lot of split screen work, and when I resize or use the crop effect, put another layer underneath, and then try to move either layer forward or backward in the timeline, premiere always crashes. I could deal with this, but unfortunately premiere saves the project upon crashing, and when I open it again, it launches into the recovery file, which has the bug still present, which immediately causes premiere to crash.
Is there a way to turn off this recovery or auto save on crash feature? I just wish to open the file from the last point I manually saved it, but seem unable to do so.
Also, I have auto save set to save every three minutes but it does not save. Not sure why!
Any help appreciated.

I have recently put alot of our favorite music on our ipod and it shows that it was added to the ipod and it will play from the computer too, but when i go to play the songs off of the ipod itself they're gone! nowhere to be found and its really irritating! does anyone know how to solve this problem!?

How can I get Lion re installed after crash and no recovery disk?

I bought Lion some time ago I did not do a recovery disk and now I had a huge crash. I started over with Snow Leopard cause that's all I had. How can I get Lion re installed?

Make sure you're up to 10.6.8 through Software Updates, and then re-download Lion from the App Store.
Incidentally, many Macs (from 2010 models onwards) have the ability to run Internet Recovery, even if your original hard drive crashed, which will allow you to re-download and install Lion directly from the internet.
But the best way is always to have a local backup of your system drive.

My machine crashed and after reboot, most windows are white.

After my laptop locked up, I rebooted to find that most of the apps I use have blank windows, causing my computer to be unusable. This goes for Sparrow, Twitter, PSDs, Reeder, complex pages on Safari (Chrome works, which is interesting).
Rebooting again doesn't fix it. This is the same problem I had when I installed Lion DP4 out of the gate, but this time it kicked in a day after installing Lion. I desperately need my apps back (specifically Photoshop) as I have a tight deadline for work.
Has anyone else experienced this, and does anyone have any suggestions for resolving it?

I have reverted to a backup from yesterday in which Lion was first installed and ran without problems. But this time, the windows of my apps were still white.
I also tried creating a new user account, thinking that there was a chance that it was a conflict with a piece of 3rd party software. Not that I can rule out software conflicts, but I still had the same problems.
So I'm now reverting to Snow Leopard. Ugh…
At least the "Recovery Partition" is pretty cool ;)

Macbook Pro crashed and no recovery options work.

I was watching a show online when I got a black screen. I rebooted to find that it boots straight to the recovery partition. I've tried doing the Reinstall Mac OS X option, as well as Internet recovery. Here's what happens.
Reinstall Mac OS X - When I click to verify my computer's eligibility with Apple it says "An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again. I have done this probably 30-40 times with the same result.
Internet Recovery - I have performed an internet recovery at least 5 times. Every time it goes off without a hitch. Bar fills all the way up, the computer restarts right back to the recovery partition. If I hold option on boot, the only selectable boot option is "Recovery."
I have cleared NVRAM, used disk utility to verify and repair the HDD multiple times, rand the hardware diagnostics with option+D (long tests everything passed), I completely deleted the OS partition that shows up in disk utility and recreated a partition and tried all these steps over again and still no luck.
Could it be a bad HDD even though the tests passed?
I've done this sort of thing a million times and this has me stumped.

If it isn't a bad hard drive then it could also be:
Dysfunctional memory.
Damaged ribbon cable between the HDD and motherboard.
Defective motherboard.
It would appear to be a hardware problem, so I would make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

Firefox crashed and after numerous downloads it sort of limps along but it's nothing like it was.

I was downloading a file using Download Helper and Firefox suddenly crashed. When I tried to get it to run again I got a message saying it could not connect. Restarting the computer and running a virus scan did nothing. I am using Mac OS 10.5.8 and never had a problem with any version of Firefox until now. I have the distinct feeling that the browser had a built in extinction date or something and I just happened to be on when it hit. I would like to keep using Firefox, but I'm not sure that will happen unless someone has some ideas about what went wrong and how to restore things.

If you get a message that Firefox can't access the profile folder then try to trash the current profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new default profile.

Latest version of Firefox installed. When I try to open it it comes up with error table asking for areport to be sent to Firefox. This I have done over last 2 days but no response so far.
