HD disk saying Empty?
Greeting users,
I have bought a second hand g5. It is an older model 1.8 x2. Everything is running fine but i have encounted a problem with the Hard disk.
The machine starts up fine, and all programmes run fine. The issue i have is the Hd in the top right hand corner is saying it is empty? If I run my cursor over it, right click, open 'get info'.... the disk says has no space and no space available. ( its a new 500gb drive ) it says USED SPACE: x, FREE SPACE: x.
Another example is, If i put a usb drive in and try to copy an MP3 from the usb drive to my desk top, a message comes up saying ' no space available '? ?
I took the HD out yesterday and the problen came after I put it back in and connected the data cables ETC.
Is there something i have to do in order to get my HD back to normal order? If i go to applications/disk utility the HD comes up in the top left hand colum and shows that it is working and has over 470gb free???
I am a new user to mac.... and thought it could be something simple.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I love MAC!

Hi Simon, and a warm welcome to the forums!
A very strange problem.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Are there perhaps 2 drives in it?

You run Windows in Parallels or Fusion. Then in Windows you install the program.

Mac Keep Ejects Installation Media, Hard disk is empty, How to install OSX
I installed Ubuntu in my Mac Mini, Later my apple wireless keyboards pairing is not working and to pair i need to have OS X installed, since no osx installed, to boot i used to press the option key. So now I formated linux, now my hard disk is empty no partition or nothing. But the problem is my mac mini keeps ejecting OS X installation media (original dvd set came with mac mini) but I can boot from ubuntu live cd. How can I solve this problem. Some one told me to reset my pram, but I was unable to do it. Pressing Command Option P R does nothing. Please help me out. without my machine working I'm like a dead man.
Yeah I managed to get one, and tried c key to boot from the disk. It doesn't work. The current status of my machine is. My hard drive is clean (unpartitioned space, I formated it). Still Mac Ejects OS X installation media which came with the mac mini, But I can boot using Ubuntu,Solaris,etc disks and I can install them. How can I install OS X in this situation. Since I'm doing my PG course in Computer Science, the system is an urgent stuff for me.. Please help me out.
And why mac is ejecting the actual original installation media even when it's taking all other disks ?? I tried two different disks to make sure if it's the trouble of the disk, but that's not the case. I only ejects OS X disks and ejects all OSX Disks (i tried tiger disk, and leopard disk)

Help. I just purchased an HP Laserjet Pro 300 multifunction laserjet printer for a new home office. I tried to load it on my Macbook Pro which has the OSX 10.7.5 operating system and the disk says it only goes to OSX 10.6. Do I need to return this heavy printer?
Ditch the disk.
If the Mac is up to date with all system updates, it probably is already carrying all it needs to talk to the printer. Just open the Print & Scan perfpane in System Preferences and get the two talking (USB: plug it in, Network: type in the IP address, if the Mac hasn't discovered it already), give it a few seconds and just confirm the correct model has been chosen. Many times the printer will pop up in the list on its own accord, else use the plus ( + ) button to add manually. Holler if you need more help. -
Imac frozen at blue screen after i went into disk utilities and cleaned free space.
I tried holding down T key as it reboots
and i get a message. Start up disk full empty it how can one emptie it if you cant get past the blue screen?
to make matters worse we bought the IMAC of amazon uk on the 4/07/011 so what can we do?
please remember how frustrating it is when asking for help when the helper telling you to type something on the screen when its frozen
Tell us when you can type some instuctions to the software how do you get to the doss prompt so to speak to do this

Am i right ok in thinking that
when i went into disk utilities and chose to clean my free space i left it over one hour to do its stuff
i came back and there was no progress bar just the box so i quit the program and when i opened mac mail the system just froze i forced quit mail rebooted and blue screen death
Now when free space is being cleaned is it the same as windows dose the utility write lots of 0 on the hard drive then rebbot its self to free the space
basicly is my hard drive full of 00000 is this why im getting this message because the process was interupted

My disk was full. I transfered data to a hard disk and emptied my trash...but my disk is still full!...how can i do?

I had this answer : When you copy data from one drive to another, it is not removed from the first drive — you need to trash it as the second step in the process of "moving" it. Then empty the trash.
Sorry I understand the answer but I'm not very good...how to "trash it as the second step in the process of moving it"...I already emptied my trash and don't know where to go o trash another time the files...can you explain the process.

Let's try this example.
If I have a file on my Desktop and copy it to an external HD it copies the file, it does not move it. I'd then need to take that file and move it to the trash can (click on it, hold and drag over the trash can icon in the Dock). Another option is to right click (or hold the Control button and mouse click), then select "Move to Trash" followed by emptying the trash.

I recently upgraded my pc with a GTX 970 card. It worked fine for a few days and now my PCIE slot says that it's empty. But my old AMD card is fine. I don't understand as this happened after installing anew ssd drive and restarting my pc.
the card lights up fine and the fans spin as they should.
could it be a dead pci slot?

windows 8.1nope, before the pc would black screen after plugging in the SSD, turned on AHCPI (i think) in bios and it all worked fine. restarted pc. nothing. i just plugged my old amd card back in and it seems all drivers are installed still. even though i removed the software, could this have something to do with it.
and yeah i reset the cmos and that didn't do anything. Starting to think it might be my board because the gtx didnt sit as comfortable as my amd r9 270x.
but it worked, i was literally gaming 2 hours ago.
i doubt its the card as I checked the pins on the pci connection bit on the card and they are all fine , they match my amd card. the card powers up fine. etc. just in bios it says empty.
updated to latest mobo firmware. I've just ordered a new MOBO and hope that sorts it, otherwise its £285 for a dud card which was purchased in a shop about 150 miles away.
any suggestions would be helpful. -

Its worth adding that if you deleted the song using iTunes, you will need to add the track to your library with File>>Add file to library" after restoring it from the recycle bin.

Clicked Burn on DVD SP 4.0 and burned a disc. DVD played fine on PC DVD drive and all seems ok. When I try to make a Global copy in a Bravo Pro Disc Publisher, the Global goes to 96% and then errors out and no successful global is made. When I look in My Computer, the Audio_TS folder says empty. All of the files seem to be only in the Video_TS folder. Is this my problem? Should I choose Build & Format in the DVD SP and then Burn the disc? Not sure what to do since I need to make 50 plus copies of a disc. Please help
to use the Bravo use the following workflow:
make sure you have the latest software update for your duplicator:
for USA:

use premium quality discs, this means Taiyo Yuden or Ritek, don't use other makes as they are not good enough for the Bravo machines
in DVDSP use 'build' to create the video and audio folders
in the video folder, delete the two files; .lay and .layout
in PT Publisher, use DVD data disc and select UDF format
drag in the video and audio folders
click Burn -
When I select files to archive, they move from my file folder, but then I go to the archive folder and it says Empty? Where are those files?
Your account names are probably different on the two Macs. If you know the UNIX command line, open a terminal window and run:
$ id
You should see a line that starts with something like this:
uid=501(your_user_id_here)
now check the owner of the folder you copied over:
$ ls -ld Music
drwx------+ 8 some_user_id_here staff 272 May 14 16:08 Music
Do the IDs match? If not, you could change the ownership. Say your id is "johnsmith"
$ chown -R johnsmith Music
Now try and access it with iTunes.
