HD DVD Burners?

I notice that the recent update to DVD SP now has better support for HD DVD.
So, what HD DVD burners are available to consumers, specifically external burners?

There don't appear to be any. (Yet.)
Everyone in this forum who is "authoring" to HD-DVD right now seems to be making use of an Apple enabled "trick" that allows them to author HD-DVD content to DVD-R media and play it back in properly equipped Apple machines internal DVD-Drive.
This does not allow for higher data rates/encoding bitrates (when played off of the DVD-R disc), and most of the media Authored in this manner does not (with a few rare and seemingly not-widely reproducable exceptions) play in set-top players.
For some strange reason---the HD-DVD-R media DOES appear to be available through several common outlets. (EXAMPLE: Supermediastore.com and our local Staples store both cary HD-DVD recordable media.) But still no recordable drives for your computer.
You can also put the HDVDDVIDEOTS folder (for an HD project authored in DVDSTP4) on your machine's hard drive and playback using the DVD Player application.

I had a av cord that plugged into the iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 but its not compatible with the 5 connector. Right now i have to email myself the videos in small segments and open and save on the iPad 2 to burn them. Is there an easier way to burn these from my iPhone 5 or through air play on apple tv?

Connect the phone by USB to the computer, import with image capture, iPhoto or whatever application you use to import movies, drop it into iTunes.

Using two internal DVD burners in a PowerMac G4

Has anyone out there installed a second DVD burner in the bottom slot of their MDD G4? And if so, is it possible to burn a DVD via iDVD on "Drive 1", and while that's going, burn another DVD via Disk Utility (with a disc image) on "Drive 2"?
I'm looking for a way to burn DVDs, two different ones, one on each drive, and also the same DVD but using two different apps so that the time spent duplicating DVDs is cut in half.
(Hope that made sense!).
Of course, I know there are specific machines that do this, DVD replicators that you don't need to connect to a computer.
Or is it better to connect an external DVD burner drive, and then is it possible to do the aforementioned above?
I'd rather not have to get an external drive. I have a SuperDrive that functions, but resides in a G4 iMac that died, so it's just sitting around unused. And if that G4 iMac was working right now, I'd be using it to burn my other DVDs at the same time.
I guess you can see where this is going!! I used to have the capability by using two different machines, but since the second machine is (GASP!) acting like a Dell (broken), I'm a sitting duck.
[By the way, my bottom slot is home to an old PowerMac G3 CD-ROM drive that fit like a charm. I bought a CD-RW drive for it originally, and could not get it to fit-- it was shorter lengthwise than could reach the connectors --so I ended up putting that CD-RW drive in my PowerMac G3 and swapped drives].

If you have two hard drives in a G4 MDD you should be
able to run two burners at once as long as they are
not getting data from the same hard drive.
Both burners would then have to be set
Master. Option-Eject would then probably not work
for the second drive but there is a menu bar item
you can install for ejecting disks.
I kind of lost you there. As "experienced" as I am with Macs.
I have actually, 4 drives in my computer. ATA-66 is the original install, a Seagate 120 GB that I moved there after trying it out and finding no real speed issues (I don't have any benchmarks, but my proof comes from the work I do-- moderate video editing with iMovie and Motion... the apps reside on the 120 GB and my projects are in different places. I saw no difference in speed from when it was originally attached to the ATA 100 bus, to when it moved to the ATA-66).
On the ATA 100, I have a Seagate 300 GB drive.
On my PCI card bus, which has both ATA-133 and Serial ATA-150, I have a Maxtor 300 GB drive connected to the former (which is a 133 speed drive), and a Western Digital Raptor 74 GB connected to the latter (which is an SATA 150 speed drive).
Both are never used at the same time, by the way... at least, I don't remember. (Which reminds me, I better check that. I told myself I'd never do that, but lately, I've been swapping project files from one to another to organize space and all). Talking about the Raptor and Maxtor drives.
So what would I do then? My SuperDrive on top is a factory original install, and as I mentioned, the other SuperDrive I'd put on the bottom comes from a dead iMac G4, so it would also be an OEM drive. I just don't know if it's the same speed as my PowerMac's.
I do follow, however, what you mean by two drives. So for my iDVD project, I'd be burning it from iDVD, from wherever my media files are stored, in this case, the Maxtor 300 GB.
Are you saying that I'd be fine if I then took a disc image that resides on my Raptor drive, and make a DVD from Disk Utility?
What I'm not sure about is how to set it up. I wasn't aware, until now, that optical drives also had master settings. I knew hard drives did. (So in essence, duh, it would be logical for optical drives to have it).
When I put my CD-ROM drive from my PowerMac G3 into the lower slot, I didn't set anything. Though, since it's a read-only drive, it probably didn't matter.
But I'm sure it would with two DVD burners.
So what should I do there?

What are third party compatible DVD burners?

I can't seem to find a clear answer to this question: What is a "third party compatible" DVD burner that I can use with iMovie/iDVD?
I don't have an internal DVD burner, so I'm thinking of picking up an external one. Problem is, I don't know which ones will work. Is there a list somewhere?
Do I need a firewire burner or can I use USB 2.0?

Adobe has a link that is supposed to take you to a list of compatable dvd burners for Encore 2.0. When you download/view the PDF file, it states that the list is for Encore 1.5 (not 2.0). Is there really a list of compatable 2.0 dvd burners????

Not seen one, but I have always found that my Pioneer burners have been very reliable.

As I am sure you know, iTunes doesn't support 64 bit versions of Windows and the gear drivers you need for burning are not supplied.
Many people have got burning to work by downloading the 64 bit drives from the gear site:

Dual Layer DVD Burners? (Best Choices)

What are people having the Best luck with Dual Layer DVD wise?
I have an older G4 (as seen on bottom of post)
I've been reading that the DVD+ format is the way to go as far as Dual Layer DVD is concerned..
Does that mean I wouldn't be able to play it back on my single layer SuperDrive?

Serial-ATA DVD Burners

Does any body know if there are any serial-ata DVD burners for Mac?

but I'm just not sure how well they'd work on a mac. Not an approach I'd use myself. I prefer using the internal ATA bus for a pioneer S-Drive like the 103 thru 111 which are very compatible with most macs. I'd even recommend using an ext. FireWire S-Drive over the approach you may be considering.

Mid-2010 Mac Mini, dead optical drive: Are any slim Firewire DVD burners compatible?

The optical drive on my Mac Mini seems to have died prematurely, as the OEM drives are known to do. Estimated cost of replacing the internal component: $170. And it would be the exact same model Apple optical drive, not a more robust one.
Now very reluctantly thinking of adding yet another peripheral. USB ports are pretty well filled but I don't use the Firewire port for anything.
Trouble is, since Apple discontinued Firewire, the manufacturers of Mac-compatible optical drives aren't making Firewire models any more.
There are a few recent Firewire DVD burners from PC peripheral manufacturers, such as Acer, Aopen, Dell, Pioneer, Sony (Amazon reviews say it's restricted to burning Sony media) in a small "slim" form factor.
Anyone have information about their compatibility with Firewire 800 on mid-2010 Mac mini, Mac OS 10.10.1 Yosemite?

At least you can get into this computer. Be sure to have a spare
optical drive cable and other possible items that may get broken
in the process. Oh there also is a PRAM battery in this computer
that may or may not need replacement while it is open...
If at one point, if several parts were to be replaced at one time, a
visit to a service technician becomes very cost effective. Find one
that will install the parts you may get from third-party sources. If
you know someone at a college computer lab, they may be able
to perform the swap, test their work, and be done, in short order.
Or, chose to use an external inexpensive 'superdrive' equivalent.
I'd heard the LG brand was among some that work, and can also
be used to boot the computer from System DVD or utility discs...
It is a USB drive, can burn DVD/CD media, and is not costly.
The ability to swap out the defective optical drive, and replace it
with an SSD or second storage drive, may be a way to go; but
it also would be at least as tedious as optical drive replacement.
This may add value to the device, in a resale situation later.
That would use the 'drive doubler' idea referred to at macsales.
In the above main guide, is a primer on how to swap out the optical
drive and replace it with a second hard disk drive or solid state drive.
Similar to what the OWC site says, but they have a good kit, too.

External DVD Burners & iDVD Compatibility

I am looking to purchase external DVD burners for use at my school - that are compatible with iDVD.
I am running iLife 5 on many different pre-intel Tiger Macs (mostly eMacs)
I have looked for a definitive listing of burners and have been receiving conflicting pieces of information.
I understand that I students can save iDVD projects as Disk Images then burn after the fact... but it would be nice to know which External Burners are compatible with iDVD without having to go the Disk Image route.
Any assistance that you can provide me would be tremendously appreciated.

Hello Dave,
iDVD 5 does not natively support external burners. What you have discovered concerning the creation of disk images, though, is not simply a workaround, but a widely recommended procedure, as it greatly reduces the risk of burn errors.

Internal SATA DVD burners for use with Encore

I want to buy a SATA internal DVD burner for use with Encore (on Windows XP). I've carefully reviewed the list of Adobe approved Encore-compatible DVD burners and the list seems to only include IDE and external (USB/Firewire) devices. Is there ANY SATA internal DVD burner that is certified to work with Encore?

Not that I know of, but since they appear as normal IDE devices, the procedure should be very much the same. It's more a matter of how reliably the driver for the burner translates the commands, I'd guess.

Using Both DVD Burners at a Time

I cannot find any place that tells me how to use both my DVD burners on my new Mac Pro. I use Studio Pro to produce and Toast to burn the DVD's.
I want to make about 20 copies of my DVD and want to know the quickest way.

I've waiting for my new MB, and was wondering if you can connect Ekstern USB HDD, and DVD burners. Whitout any problems whit software ore other stuff?

Not if it does not have a Superdrive. But you should be able to use an external (note the spelling!) DVD burner connected by Firewire, and I would also recommend that you buy Toast 7 Titanium as even better burning software than that offered by Apple (you get more control over what you are doing).
