HD DVD keeps getting ejected

I have a new BBC HD DVD that is for the right region and it keeps getting ejected by my iMac after about a minute of trying. My iMac plays every other DVD I have - any suggestions?

Hi APHNYES: Will the iMac actually paly any kind of HD DVD? I ssupect it isn't capable of playing HD or Blu-Ray DVDs

powerbook g4 Mac OS X (10.4.2) Ever since I've upgraded to OS10.4.8 my combo drive ejects some dvds, specifically dvd+r discs. What gives with that? Any help or workaround will be much appreciated. The following is my info.

My PowerBook (Machine Model: PowerBook3,5) had the same issue when I first got it, over three years ago, and Apple declared it a faulty drive and replaced under Applecare.
I had the same problem earlier this year, just before my extended Applecare ran out, and it was the same issue - faulty drive.
The symptoms were - unable to read certain types of DVD (the machine would grind for a while, then spit them back out), including the Apple Hardware Test, but would readily read some other DVDs and all CDs.

I forgot to say: this sound like something that shouldn't have an impact (I remember when it was the second step on every article regarding troubleshooting OS 7!), but resetting the PRAM would help about half the time for a temporary fix

Any CD or DVD i put in keeps getting ejected

I cant figure out what to do for this problem. I can't even use my Mac OS install disc 1 because that gets ejected too. Up to 10 seconds after putting in a disc it gets kicked back out. I hope theres an easy solution. I hope someone can help.

I didn't save the message. But basically what you do if your experiencing this problem go to your applications go to utilities click disk utilities and click on your HD in left hand corner and run a verify permissions and repair test. Hopefully this will eradicate the problem of your ejecting disk. After running a repair test turn off your computer start it up again then pop in a disk and see if it runs without ejecting prematurely.

Can't Erase HD because cd keeps getting ejected

So im trying to erase all my data but everytime i reboot my mac and press C the cd will get ejected and restarting normally. IT's driving me crazy, any thoughts?

Are you using the Application Restore disk or the System Restore disk?
Is the disk the one that was included with your computer?
Have you tried option booting?
if you boot normally, dose the computer recognize the disk? Will the computer recognize other DVDs? What about other CDs?

The blank dvd r keeps getting ejected ...

I am trying to burn an imovie to a blank dvd+r. Wnen I click on "burn dvd." ..the computer ejects the disk. This a new set of dvd+r I bought at Staples , specs are 16x. Any thoughts??? Do I need special formated disks to burn an imovie??

I have used power mac 6100-66 since 1994 that is still working in my studio, I love MAC, In My Studio, I have two Macs, One is Power Mac 6100-66av and iMAC G4 17" flat Dome.
I have No Idea why my DVD -R Burning Broblem with others brnad blank DVD-R except Apple brand. and you company said, "Typically Apple branded discs are just repackaged Verbatims."
But My DVD Burning is still problem with that Verbatim brands DVD-R.
Really,if you take care of your future customer, Your company needs responsibility to even just, one customer's sound.
Now, I have no solution except to buy external Firewire burner with my money.
Now to Future, who can buy the MAC without the clear solution service in Apple Co.?

Burning a DVD - keep getting encoding errors message, help?

I have a video that I made out of videos, photos, and music that is less than an hour in length. I selected highest quality b/c it was less than the available 4.7 GB of available space. It took over a day to burn and at the very end it gave me a message saying that it was having encoding errors. Help! I am trying to burn it again at reduced quality, but prefer to have it at highest quality.

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
What are the properties of the video that went on that Timeline....video compression, audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, file extension, pixel aspect ratio....photos - how many and what pixel dimensions??
Based on the properties of your source media, what did you or the project select as the project preset?
When you go to the burn dialog for your burn to DVD, what did the quality area of the burn dialog show for Space Required and Bitrate (with a check mark next to "Fit Content to Available Space"? The only time I would work without the check mark there is if I was getting Data Rate Error message and I had to set the Bitrate manually to move forward.
What is the exact wording of the message(s) that you are getting once you hit Burn in the burn dialog?
Let us start here and then we can decide what next.

HT1338 I have mountain lion and cant get time machine to work. the disk keeps getting ejected.

I just installed Mountain lion and i can't get time machine to work. every time i connect it time machine starts but then ejects the drive. I also tried to back up direct to the hard drive with the software that came with the drive and the same thing happens. Does anyone have a clue as to what may be wrong?

When that happens, you should get some sort of message. If you don't remember it exactly, go to the Time Machine Preferences window -- there should be a red "Failed" message and icon there. Click the icon to see the message. Either report the wording or post a screenshot.
If not, a clue may be lurking in your logs. Use the widget in #A1 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting to display the backup messages from your logs. Locate the backup in question, then copy and post all the messages here.

DVD keeps getting rejected!

Friday night I was able to put a DVD in and play it, but starting today I tried to put a DVD in and it ejects it right out about 30 seconds later. It doesn't sound like it reads it or anything. It is an actual DVD, no copy no DVD -R. Can anyone share some light onto this problem?

The drive accepts discs but they do not mount or are automatically ejected
Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
Reset the Power Manager (PMU) or System Management Controller (SMC).
Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. For example a "combo drive" can read a DVD-R and burn a CD-R however it cannot burn a DVD-R. The utility System Profiler may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.
If the discs continue to not be recognized, please contact Apple, contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional troubleshooting, evaluation, or service.
SMC RESET INSTRUCTIONS:
Resetting the SMC on Mac portables with a battery you can remove
Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

Can't Back up iTunes library - DVDs keep getting rejected

Have just upgraded to iTunes 7.1. Tried to use the Back Up function mentioned in "What's new...". Unfortunately, every time I try to back up the iTunes library to a blank DVD-RW, the computer fails to work out what the disc is and then spits it out. Why would that happen?
Are some brands of DVD-RWs incompatible with Macs? Have tried TDK 4.7GB DVD-RW & Panasonic 4.7GB DVD+RWs. Both rejected.
Any advice appreciated. Apart from buying an External HD; too strapped for cash!

DVD-R or DVD-RW, either should be fine; it's the +R disks that won't work.
The fact that -RWs won't work suggests to me that you may have a hardware problem with the drive (it's quite possible for a drive to be able to work with CDs but fail with DVDs or vice-versa). In any case, it's not an iTunes problem, so you might want to take the issue up in the PowerBook DVD forum. Someone there may be able to suggest something to try to determine if it's an OS or hardware problem.

Can't Burn DVD - keep getting "Error during rendering/encoding"...Help!

I have a new IMac computer with Leopard and I'm having problems burning DVDs. I created a project using IDVD and have audio and pictures (imported individually from Iphoto) that I created into slideshows. I'm try to burn my final copy and continue to receive the "Error during rendering/encoding" message. I looked at earlier threads and saw some people had success when saving it first to a disk image however when I attempted to do that I received the same error. I know I have plenty of memory space since this project is very small. Please let me know if you have any ideas!!

I have a new mac with Leopard since a week, and I had the same problem ("error during rendering / encoding..."). This happened when burning to a disk image.
I tried a lot of things :
* very small project
* create a new user
* put pictures in a folder, and not drag them from iphoto
* change the theme
I still had the same problem.
The last thing I tried was to put all the files used by idvd on the hard disk (instead of of an external firewire disk).
It worked ! (with the small size project).
I'm trying to burn the large project again...
I will tell you if it succeeds...

My ipod keeps getting ejected randomly

I have a new ipod (30gb video) and everytime I connect it to the computer, it is ejected about 10 seconds later. I tried it with a different computer where it worked perfectly. My USB ports are fine and I have reinstalled itunes and the problem persists. Can anyone help?!

I think possibly this has something to do with missing files, I've googled this and I can't find any way to restore the missing files, does anyone have any ideas? My next step is going to be re-install windows because it's clearly something to do with something wrong with my machine itself. Argh!

DVD blank discs ejected

I have been trying TDK dvd + blank discs but they keep getting ejected as if they are not being recognised. Could it be to do with the particular brand and if so can anyone suggest an alternative? Thanks

.Unfortunately it didnt work as it rejected the cleaning CD as well .Looks as though i will have to buy an external reader/ writer dvd drive although I dont ,as yet, know which ones would be compatible with this computer.I say this because having the internal drive replaced would be prohibitively expensive and just not worth it.
In the meantime I can use a memory stick although .

Blank DVD keeps ejecting?

I am trying to load a blank DVD and it keeps getting spit back out at me after what sounds like the machine considering the DVD.
I have tried just unwrapped Maxll up to 4x DVD-R as well as Maxell up to 4x DVD-RW. With both, the machine offers the same response.
Any ideas of what could be wrong with user or machine under these circumstances?
Also, I need to store a 12 GB imovie folder onto seperate DVDs. I will need to be able to access this info and bring it back to an external FW drive. (Need to format the FW drives before I can store the folder there)
Any hints on breaking apart a large folder like that when storing onto DVD-RW or DVD-R.

It should be ok with -rw discs
things to look for are:
finger prints: whos got sticky fingers, ive been to customers houses and they've had jam on them then asked why they wont work
rough edges on disc or center hole, if this is rough its cant always seat properly and so may eject: i have got into the habit of sticking my finger in the center hole and spinning it round with my centre finger, also kinda relaxing too!
and obviously sctaches, like the jam stains! if its not a clear disk for any of these reasons it will spit it out, like a human eating mouldy food, the machines the same (but dont stick your pizza in there lol).
also make sure it hasnt been used before, if its been formatted in another machine, this can block it out.
if the worst is worst, get the laser cheked out, these things have 2, 1 for reading and 1 for burning so although it may read a disk it might not burn, and if the reader head has gone it wont do either becuase it needs to read it befor it can burn it.

I tried to eject a cd, didn't work so I turned off the computer and now it keeps getting stuck at the gray screen. How do I fix it?

Here are a few more details. I put in a game cd for a windows computer, once I opened the folder on the desktop I noticed the install application was .exe so I tried to eject the cd but no matter what I tried on the computer it wouldn't come out. I will say though that I didn't try the manual cd eject cause I didn't have anything small to hit the button in the cd drive with. It was getting late so we decided to just turn off the computer and leave it for the next day. I can't remember if we turned the computer off with apple shut down or by holding down the power button but we walked away pretty quickly before it was fully shut down. The next day the computer won't turn on. When I walked into the room I was the computer stuck with a grey background with the apple logo showing and the circular thing under it frozen. Since no one was in the room I held down the power button and turned the computer off. We tried to start the computer again later but again it keeps getting stuck at the same spot. Now when we hold the power button down to turn it off I'm not sure if it's really turning off all the way. The screen goes dark but it sounds like the fan is still going. I tried disconnecting everything but the keyboard and mouse but when I started it up again it got stuck on the grey screen with just the apple logo. I'd really apprechiate help on this cause I live in Germany right now and support call centers work so much worse when you don't speak the language well... Thanks for any help you can give!

Restart your computer while holding down left mouse key. That will eject the CD and your Mac will start as normal.
