HD DVD no sound

I am using compressor 2.1 the encode a preset MPEG-2 HD HDV clips and I burned it to HD in DVD, but I replay it to DVD Player 4.6.5. I only can play first 6 sec with no sound. After that, the screen is freezed. anyone have this exp. too ?
Thanx !

what bit rate did you encode the video at? I know that in the toshiba player, dobly sound does not play back, only PCM. what format is your sound?
Otherwise, my HD DVDs have played back quite well in apples DVDplayer.

  • Connecting my MacBook Pro to my DVD Surround Sound Speakers?

I'm a student filmmaker in the UK and pretty much do all my video editing from my bedroom using Final Cut Studio. I am using a MacBook Pro3,1 (bought in 2007) and have recently decided that I want to start working in 5.1 surround sound.
As I have no surround sound speakers with my MacBook Pro, I was wondering if it would be possible to connect it up to my DVD surround sound system? This would ultimately save me having to buy a compatible set and having two lots of surround sound speakers around my room...
My DVD player is a Panasonic SC-PT150. The 6 surround sound speakers each connect to it through the standard +/- "clip-in" wire set up (which, obviously isn't compatible with my MacBook Pro). There are also two AUX sockets (one for Left and one for Right) on the back of the DVD player. So far, I have tried connecting my MacBook Pro to these sockets using a Mini plug to RCA cable, however, all I get is an incredibly loud humming noise.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might, either overcome this problem or, get the setup to work another way? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks both of you for your help.
It doesn't mention either of those connections in the manual, however, yes you are right, it takes digital input. I'll have to call and check if the toslink cable is compatible.
I tried connecting the mini-stereo-to-RCA cable to my Nokia phone (which is actually where the cable came from) and that plays through the DVD speakers just fine, when i select AUX mode. Although, as you said, it only plays stereo.
Say the mini-toslink cable is compatible, would I need to get a 5.1 surround sound card for my MBP?
    Thanks again.

I?have perfect sound on DVD's with PCM/Stereo or Dolby Digital 5..
Have to switch to "SPDIF-OUT" as default sound device in Windows control panel in order to hear DTS sound from DVD.
But, can't hear any?Windows sounds with "SPDIF-OUT" selected -> Have to switch back from SPDIF-OUT?to "Lautsprecher "(Laudspeaker/WAVE Out?) each time...

Hi there? The problem may be due to a hardware conflict on your system. The most likely cause is that you have not disbaled your onboard sound card, to find out how to do this click the following link:

G71 notebook: DVD/CD drive recognizes only DVD movie DVD - not sound, not data CDs

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if the drive will now read CDs etc.
If it still doesn't, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it will now read other discs/data etc.

    Hi
    A. iMovie'08 to 11 are not the tools of choice if one aim to do a DVD as they all discard the quality of the picture by discarding every second line in it. NO way around this due to that it happens between Event's and Project's so as soon as it is being edited - Quality is lost.
    B. I use iMovie HD6 or FinalCut
    C. if iM'08 to 11 is a must - THEN DO NOT - Share to iDVD - BUT - "Share to Media Browser" and as Large (or ev. Medium)
THEN DO - Save as a DiskImage and see that this plays OK and ALL SOUND
    D. if added audio from iTunes - then instead in iTunes - Collect all needed Audio into a NEW PlayList then BURN this as an Audio-CD (.aiff - NOT .mp3 or other) - Then use the Files on this CD in Your Movie Project's (I do)
    E. I only use .aiff audio - 48kHz 16-bit (miniDV tape Camera) or 44.1kHz Audio CD - NEVER .mp3 or .wma or other file format - ALL is converted first into .aiff - ALWAYS ! - I have very few problem with Audio in my projects in iMovie or FinalCut !

  • 22CV1000 Toshiba LCD TV/DVD combo: Sound but no display

I am having problems with my 22CV1000 Toshiba LCD TV/DVD combo!
When I turn the tv on, it sounds like it is trying to read a DVD. The display appears for second, but then goes black. I still have sound, just no display.
The Toshiba help line told me to unplug and replug the tv - but that did not help.
I would really appreciate your advice!

At this point, I think you should call support back. It sounds like it might need a repair.

  • Urgent Help! DVD distorted sound with Creative 5.1 External

    Hi there
new to this board, i recently purchased the Creative Soundblaster Li've! 24bit 5. External Card and am having difficulties playing a DVD. Whatever program I use, i get some serious distorted 'hiss' sound throughout the movie. Any DVD does this. and its only DVDs, other movie and audio files are fine. If i disconnect the external card and just use my original on-bard card, it works fine too.
Any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks

    ishiiyuto,
As I understand it, the USB port doesn't have enough badwidth to handle DVDs with AC3 sound. See the post by Jeremy-CL here.

  • DVD - MP4 sound issue

On my Powerbook G4 running OSX Panther, I just encoded a peice of video taken from a DVD -r I burned using my Panasonic DVD recording deck. Handbreak did the job, but I have noticed that during playback on my iPod there is a split second break in sound approximately every 30 secs. I'm not a genious when it comes to sound, but I know a little and think it may be to do with the sample rate on the DVD being different to the re-encoded sample rate of Handbreak thus becoming out of sync and cross phasing at 30 second intervals. The DVD plays fine, its just the encoded H.264 file that doesn't. Video remains fine. Any feed back would be great.
    Thanks

Headphones have good sound (no weak voices).
Balance (left or right) cures the problem so it must be the out of phase problem. Any fixes for this?
I believe both the DVD player and FrontRow use QT for the audio which would explain the same behavior. It may be in the DVD audio encoding and QT is attempting to make a mono center sound channel, which normally works.
You could rip the DVD and demux the audio - reverse the phase of one channel and remux it and burn a copy. I have never done this, but some rippers and burners allow audio manipulation.
I would first make a disk image and play it rather than waste a blank DVD.
I use VLC for all my media playing. VLC works just like FrontRow with the IR remote.

  • No sound on DVD but sound in iDVD.

All, I have tried and tried... I looked up this subject and I even tried what people have posted on here and I have nothing. Here is what I have done.
I am converting home video to dvd. I have checked the audio at it is all 16 bit. I have deleted encoding in the advance option. Still when I burn a DVD in idvd or even an image, there is no sound on the DVD. Yet I can hear sound when I view my product in FCE or in iDVD. I have done about 3 other clips and they worked fine. I am following the same steps what could be the issue???? Thanks.
My idvd is 6.0.3 and all my stuff is up to date.

Did you by chance use any iTunes music? If so make sure the iTunes preference is set at 48,000 khz. The default is 44K.
If you are using audio that is (Protected AAC) and locked with padlock icon, try replacing it.
Lastly try going into Macintosh HD >Applications > Font Book, then look for
fonts that have a black dot beside them. Highlight these fonts, then from the menu bar select > Edit > Resolve Duplicates to turn these fonts off.

  • Export Keynote Presentations to Make a DVD with Sound

I am very pleased with the ease of use and beauty of Keynote compared to PPT and its clunky interface, and I really like Keynote's elegant transitions and builds.
I have a number of Keynote presentations from 20 minutes to about an hour that I want to place on DVDs to share with others.
I own Final Cut Pro 4.5, DVD Studio Pro 3.0, Motion 1.0, iLife '04, Keynote 1.0, Keynote 2.0.2, Garage Band 1.0, and Sound Studio 2.1. I've been a Mac user since 1985 and have kept up with many apps and am a professional photographer, but am just getting into video production and need advice.
    1. Is it possible to import a Keynote (v.2) or (v.3) into FCP as it is advertized for iDVD? Or can Keynote files be imported into DVD Studio Pro 3.0 also? Pros vs Cons?
    2. Is it possible to lay down a complete sound track in FCP and then import a Keynote presentation and sync it to the transitions and builds?
    3. Or is it necessary to cut up the sound into the correct time length for each slide (and builds) and paste into each slide in Keynote?
    4. Is there a way to easily modify the time length of a slide (transition and/or build(s)) within FCP after the Keynote presentation has been imported?
    5. If this is saved in QuickTime can that be imported into FPC?
    6. Or is it better to lay down individual sound bytes in FCP after the Keynote presentation is imported?
    7. Are there any tricks that I should know about in timing the sound bytes for each slide transition with its builds?
    8. Do I need QuickTime Pro?
    9. If I upgrade to Keynote 3, will that make things work easier, such as exporting directly to iDVD or DVD Studio Pro 3.0?
    10. If I upgrade to iLife '06 with its iDVD, will that facilitate in any way?
Thanks in advance for your advice.
    Frank Evan

I love Keynote, took me a bit to figure out how to keep it looking so good exporting it so i could use it in FCP and Motion and then to DSP. The trick is when you export from Keynote use the QT and then go to formats then custom, under video change it from 800x600 i alwas use 800x600 to build Keynote presentations looks better when you export, change this to 720x540 this will keep your presentation looking just as nice. Under settings i use Animation and millions of colors, good luck i use this method and works every time. From there you can take it right into DSP or FCP and even Motion, i usually don't export sound from Keynote but you could i add mine later in FCP. Hope this works for you.

  • Burned dvd has sound when played on computer, silent in dvd player

I have a file from final cut express. The dvd's burned just fine using idvd 06. When I try to burn a dvd with idvd 08, the sound is present when I play the dvd on the computer's dvd player, and on the portable dvd player, the dvd is silent in the jvc dvd player. I read in the help topics that older dvd players might not play home burned discs, which seems ridiculous - I didn't have this problem with 06. Is there a preference I'm missing? The file, video + audio, is 670 mb. I've tried making an image file and burning a disc with that (by dragging the file onto the disc - is that how to burn an image file?) - the picture looks fine, the audio is still missing. I'm using maxell discs, and have tried "best performance" burn quality.
    thanks in advance -

After looking at my post yesterday, I can see it was a bit harsh, sorry! We all have ways of doing things, it just that in my experience after wasting considerable time and money, trouble shooting over the years, the suggestion of a once a year install, has really reduced issues with my up-time.
If you look at it this way, Apple always releses a new OS once a year, so for me, its a good time to freshen up the OS an clean out any issues I've had with the functionality of the Mac.
A good example was this last upgrade to FCP Studio. If any of the old preferences from FCP or DVD SP were left behind, many people, (here) had issues with performance, or a working system at all and yes for many tossing the preferences helped. For me, the 3 hours of doing a freash install, was worth a full years up-time, (but that's my preference) but as you pointed out, many times not nessary.
PDTV, again, I apoligize for the poor way I posted and I do respect your opinion on this matter, I however do have a different approch to this, due to time I had wasted in the past. I hope you can respect mine and others approch to this.
Again, I meant you no disrespect. I hope you accept my apology.

  • Audio crackles through TV upon DVD burn, sounds fine on the computer

I'm trying to burn a DVD of some music videos in DVD Studio Pro. All the files were converted to Mpeg2 from the original quicktime files or h264s. Most of the songs sound fine when played on the burned DVD through a TV, but there is one where the audio clips and sounds crackly coming through the TV speakers. It doesn't sound like that on the computer though. Admittedly, the mix on the sound file is horrible, and I am pretty sure its more than just a volume issue. I have extremely limited knowledge on audio mixing though, and also don't have access to the original mix, just the audio that's already on the finished video. Is there something (novice-level difficulty) I can do to the audio export to see what's causing this problem and try to minimize it? Thanks so much.

Your audio levels should never peak above -4db.  I really aim for between -8db and -6db for videos I do for the web. But if it is going to play on the TV, the peaks should never go above -12db...that's actually a network standard.  Audio that peaks too high will distort.
