HD-DVD ONLY?

I'm up and running shooting and editing beautiful HD footage using the FCP Suite..... and NOW it appears I've discovered that I can't burn an HD DVD on my iMac? Oh yeah, I could use the HD-DVD format but it won't play in a standard DVD player (or Blu-Ray). Someone please tell me the best way to get my HD footage to play on a standard DVD Player without having to purchase a BluRay burner?

A standard DVD player will ONLY play SD video. Period. Every single DVD you have ever watched/owned is SD.
If you want to create a DVD, then all your HD footage has to ultimately be converted down to SD. If you want to watch HD footage, then you have to purchase a Blu-Ray burner and make a Blu-Ray disc (which will only play on a Blu-Ray player, not a DVD player.)

How to install iPhoto an DVD only from my iLife 09 disk

Following hard drive replacement I now have Snow Leopard. I tried to install iphoto and DVD only from iLife 09 disk but could not find a way to install them only.
The full bundle will use all the free disk space I have which is 4 gbs. Following install of SnowLeopard from new disk iphoto and DVD did not install.

You can do what you want
BUT
you need a minimum of 10 GB of free space for normal operations so you need to find a way to reduce disk usage - 4 GB is not enough and will cause slow operation and possible damage to systems or data
You seriously need to free up disk space - moving your iPhoto library to an external drive may be the answer -
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

DVD only works on TV.

I burned a DVD with iDVD. The DVD only works on TV but not on computer. Do you know why and how to make a DVD which works both on TV and computer?

Try making a disc image to the desktop if you haven't already. It will help us isolate the issue to your mac or the media you happened to choose. Test the image with apple's dvd player app. If it plays as expected, then use Verbatim or Maxell Dvd-R while burning at 4x or lower.

When I try to gackup catalog on photoshop to a DVD only a few pictures come through. Seems to take a really long time.

PP3 CS3 EXPORT HALF FILE SIZE ONLY ,SHRINKEN FILES FIT SINGLE LAYER DVD ONLY

I've regently upgraded up PP3 CS3 , Which was exported half of the files size only . I created 1 hour video/audio project on PP3 , then EXport to Encore CS3 , and check Encode setting , at the bottom right side ( ESTIMATE FILE SIZE) is about 2200 MG .Event I switched Sinle layer or Dual layer the files size Estimated the same amounth .
I created anather 2 hour video/audio project,Exprt to Encore cs3 , Estimate file size about 4 gitbite , It fited single layer 4.7 dvd only
The DVD quality play back on DVD player is only half of the original footage .
Encore cs3 is the same issue , when I forced double file to 8 gibite to burn dual layer DVD . It got error (unlimited of disc).
I could not find any setting to make it work on PP3 cs3 and Encore cs3
I have previous PP2 , It could not build straigh 2 hour DVD , But It could make 1 hour each time with original my footage or very close I'm happy with that ,Build ISO folder , each file is about 4 gibite then I used 3rd party software NERO 7. put 2 DVD together about 8 gibite and burn to Dual layer DVD
I red manual book on page 42 encore cs3 , they do not make daul layer
I paid upgraded PP3 CS3 and paid full price Encore 3 . They 're not worth what I invested ,

I repeated again build my project in PP3 1 hour and 8 munite long video , Exprot Encore , I selected following setting as Type : DVD doule layer,
Direct burn without menus
Encoding setting : Preset :NTSC progressive high quality
or Medium qality
Video codec : Main concept MPEG VIDEO
Birates setting : VBR , 1 pass
minimum : 1.5
target : 4.
Max : 7.
GOP : M frame 3
M frame 15
Estimate files size : 2684.98 Mb
That 's all the setting I did , Whatever I swicthed single layer or double layer , the export file estimate no change .
If I tried longer video 2 hour , the estaimate file size is about 4. MG ,PP3 shrinken video file to fit single layer DVD 4.7 . The file size of 2 hour dvd good quality is about 8 gibite for dual layer DVD
The other option in PP3 did not work for any 3rd party sofwarer ,
It did not build ISO folder , and MPEG2 dvd did not build Video-ts at the root of dvd folder ,and both video and audio is splited could not use third party software , they exprot to Encore cs3 only
Then Encore did not burn more than 4.7 single dvd for 2 hour long half of quality

How can export on CD or DVD only edited photo in iPhoto

How can I export on disk (CD or DVD) only edited photos in iPhoto11? When I going to Share-Burn, all masters, edited, thumbnails etc. was exported what makes big mess if I going to print some of them.

The Share ==> burn command makes a mini iphoto library for use by iPhoto which includes multiple versions for the photos - for other uses export the photos to a desktop folder and burn that folder to CD/DVD

The main reason for requesting is that I travel worldwide and would like to watch a movie but am unable to do so because of this I have to carry any movies with me which is extra weight and I used to purchase a DVD/s in the country I am in at the time and once finished give it away or post it home as not to have the extra weight on me.

Is this possible - I have 10hrs of video but each DVD only needs about 10min

I did a 10 hour dance event and I need to make custom DVD's for each customer that usually only include 3 or 4 songs. Each DVD is different. I don't need the whole 10 hours.
Will Encore lay down just the video I need or will I have to cut away all of the extranious stuff so it's under 4.7 Gigs?

Alternatively, use After Effects (if you have it) to trim the clips down, add fades/titles/effects/etc to the clip and then import them into Encore via Dynamic Link. This would prevent you from having to wait on rendered files from PPro.
Even if you don't want to mess with Dynamic Link, you could still batch render all of your files out of After Effects overnight. The trick here is whether or not you have After Effects...........?

Toshiba Satellite P205-S6267 - DVD Burner unable to read DVDs only CDs

Trying to reinstall Vista on my Toshiba Satellite P205-S6267 laptop but the optical drive will not read any DVDs at all only CDs. So I'm unable to install Vista which is only on DVD but WinXP on CD is detected and installs OK except for XP driver issues which makes loading XP useless. I have been at this problem for few days scouring various internet forums which mostly speak to the registry issue with lower and upper filters. But if I can't get the OS installed then those solutions don't apply to me. I need help. Anyone..anyone???

Downloading from catalogue to dvd - only allows cd download

Just started using - works well until I want to download to external medium:
whether I go through File or Share, the choice is only to "burn to cd", and if I follow that route, the "Burn to cd" page option to select a drive only shows my CD drive (D) and cannot be altered to E, my DVD drive.
Any bright ideas, anyone ?

Well, actually for burning, I don't use this software. I just third
party burning software. I don't mind giving you some ideas, but don't
want to come across as "selling" it either. Let me know.
As to external medium, this software is very limited. It basically just
categorizes the images. The upgrade allows you to move them around from
the organizer view as well as edit. On the other hand, you could also
just store them on an external drive (which is what I do) and then
search and add it to the catalog.
The thing about the full version is that it is a very powerful image
editor, which clearly is not available in this one. You might look at
the trial version to see if that is what you need. Keep in mind, if you
use the trial, any changes to images will not be seen by PSA because PSE
makes a completely new catalog.
In both packages, they don't actually change the original, they change a
copy.

DVD only plays select commercial DVDs

Hey everyone,
This is literally the most frustrating thing I have ever dealt with.
When I put in a DVD to watch a movie usually the dvd drive with read the disk for awhile and then automatically eject it.
However, sometimes with other movies the dvd drive works perfectly fine.
Can someone please tell what in the world is going on?

Hey! I've been having the same problem with my Macbook Pro. The region code is the same as the dvds and its an absolute original dvd box set. I've not had this issue with most dvds...Only with my new dvds i've recently got.
When I put the dvd in..hardly stays in there for like 10seconds and then it ejects.

DVD only fills bottom half of window

When I try to watch a movie using DVD player, I only see the bottom half of the movie. The top half of the DVD player window is black. I used the program Pacifist to reinstall the DVD player package from a Mac OS install disk, but the problem persists. Anyone know what to do? Thanks in advance.

Maybe an extension or plugin issues...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. If you have any installed, turn that OFF, quit then relaunch Safari to test.
If it's not an extensions issue, back to the menu bar click Safari > Preferences > Security.
Deselect: Enable plug ins. Quit then relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, then you have one or more Safari add ons causing this.
Follow the instructions for troubleshooting plugins here > Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
If it's not a plugin issue, go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, move the .pilst file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.

My dvd only plays the left speaker of my song...

Hello everyone. I recently exported onto a dvd from adobe premiere 2.0 that included a song that i had recorded in mp3 format.
In the song, some of the instruments come out of the left speaker, and some come out of the right. When i play this video on a standard dvd player through a television, the mp3 only plays the audio that is supposed to come out of the left speaker, but it plays it through both speakers. This renders many of the instruments unhearable.
When i play it through a computer, though, with a dvd decoder, it plays everything perfectly.
What should I do?

MP3's are very often problematic. First, I would check your source file in G-Spot, to see what it reports, 2-channel, or 1-channel.
Personally, I always convert ALL MP3's to PCM/WAV and Import those. This eliminates the issues, and Audition (or the freeware, Audacity) can do this easily. The only exception will be tiny SFX files, and most are mono anyway. Where did your MP3 come from?

FCP Video files burn to DVD, Only gets audio when played

Hi,
I know this has been asked many times, but, it's late at night and I'm looking for a quick answer please.
I burnt ideo clips,which I have exported thru FCP, and burn them straight onto a DVD thru the Finder.
The person who got the DVD said he only gets audio from the clips, so, he can't see them.
Have many ideas of what I should do, but, what is the most common solution to this problem?

The DVCPRO HD, HDV and ProRes codecs only comes with FCP. If your computer does not have FCP installed, it cannot view these quicktime files. It doesn't matter if it is a Mac or PC, without FCP installed, you cannot view these files.
If you need to view ProRes material, you can download the ProRes decoder (mac and windows compatible) for ProRes

Dvd only plays on certain players

i burned several dvd's using dvdsp they will play on some players but not on others. why is this?
the footage was ripped from a PAL dvd edited in final cut then output as animation codec @ 29.97fps imported into dvdsp encoded and burned any info would be very helpful. thanks

I just finished on of the free lectures at Apple Soho. I highly suggest it for the answers to your questions. Just stop in or go online to get a list of all the lectures. Soho has Final Cut and DVD Studio Pro on thursdays at this point but that could change.
I have found that I have a G4 and one of the earlier Apple Super Drives (DVD burners). = - RW etc etc I have found that my apple G4 and Super Drive will only burn Apple brand DVD-R discs. And I was told at the apple lecture these will play on all DVD players (not so with DVD+R that came out later).
