HD DVD question o toshiba HD a2

Hello everyone, hope you are all enjoying your week.
Ok my issue is this. I burned a HD DVD through DVDSP. Now the video plays perfect audio and all. My only issue is the menu. I made a menu in motion which I later put in FCP and added audio to it and exported. I then used compressor and compressed to HD DVD mpeg2. I then put in DVDSP and burned the whole thing. Now when I put it in the toshiba the motion menu plays but I can't see the bottons so I can't select anything and the audio doesn't play. Any ideas? (I set the menu to 1920x1080i)
Also: I had done a test before without audio just a basic menu on DVDSP and I just typed in play. That worked fine I could see the highlight bar and select no problems. Now on this one I did basicly the samething except I added audio, motion background and I have it loop intead of still at the end of the menu. Could any of those things make a diffrence? Thanks..

If anyone has any ideas please go over to this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=938536&tstart=0
I opened this subject over there because its more of a DVDSP issue.
Thanks

  • Qosmio G30-E10: No Playback of DVD`s with "Toshiba HD DVD Player"

    Hi all,
If I try to playback a normal DVD (not a HD-DVD) with the Toshiba HD-DVD Player Software, I get the following message from the HD-DVD Player:
"This player has no DVD Playbackfunction. Please try an appropriate application for DVD playback"
HD-DVD Drive has current firmware. HD-DVD Player is on current patchlevel 4.20.16.
DVD-Playback with InterVideo WinDVD works fine!
Notebook is a Qosmio G30-E10, with Vista Ultimate (Factory standard).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Sincerely

    Hello
Have you ever ask yourself why Toshiba install two players on this HD-DVD notebook? Probably not.
With short words: HD-DVD player is designed for playing HD-DVD movies only. For watching usual DVD movies use DVD player. For this purposes use WinDVD player.
Bye and enjoy your great Qosmio notebook.

  • HDV to Blu-Ray and DVD questions!

So I shot a bunch of footage that I need to turn into a DVD and Blu-Ray. I have some questions regarding these 2 issues.
First of all, I captured all the footage HDV settings 1440 x 1080. I am using Final Cut Pro 5. I am having some issues with the footage trying to multicam edit. It's making me render it out, which takes about 8 hours for 20 minutes.
What is the best way to go from HDV back to DV so I can put it on DVD? Can I export straight from the HDV footage to mpeg2 or is there a different way I should go about it?
My next question is. For Blu-Ray video, how do I export the HDV footage in FCP so I can use it in Adobe Encore? Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The easiest way to convert HDV to DV is to use the camera or deck to do this Down Convert.
Edit and export to Compressor for DVD.
Multiclip editing is not something I can help you with as I haven't had any success with it.
For Encore you could export as a self contained .mov then import into Encore. You might want to try working with Compressor first.
    Good Luck

  • First Video Export to DVD Question

Hi - I have my first ever video export from Premiere to a DVD and I'm a little nervous about it.  My footage will be shot with the Panasonic ACHD (I think that's the model as I don't have the camera with me here) and the camera is set for 1280 x 720 at 24 FPS.
I was looking through the export settings in Premiere CS4 and found the MPEG-DVD and MPEG Blue Ray settings.  When I select MPEG-DVD, I notice that two vertical bars are in each end of the output; when I select MPEG Blue Ray, there's a setting in there that makes those bars go away and the picture fits the dimensions perfectly, so it looks like I can use those settings.
My question is - after I export this file, how do I actually get it on the DVD disk?  Should I export it like above and then use Adobe Encore to burn the disk?  Or is there some other method?
    Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Your original file is HiDef, a DVD is Standard Def at 720x480 so you will see a difference from original to DVD
You may not use BluRay files on a DVD... see above
You use PPro for editing, Encore for authoring... reading below

  • 915G combo HDD CD-DVD question

Hi I have a new 915G combo MB with latest bios etc.
Here is the question, i have Boot Hdd on the blue IDE1 as c/s the 2 CD-DVD CD/R-RW on IDE 2 as c/s,
    in bios it reports
    Pri master       not detected
    pri secondary   not detected
    sec master      not detected
    sec secondary not detected
    thi master       detected maxtor 160gb
    thi secondary   not detected
the 2 CD rom detected in raid.
Ok it works but why isnt the maxtor detected as primary master as normal when in IDE1 slot?
also why the bios does not detect the 2 CD roms.
Also if i disable the on board raid, and use IDE bus mastering in bios the HDD light is lit all the time.
Thanks for any help on this
    All the best Thomas

IDE bus mastering is not for the RAID controller. Check in the Integrated Peripherals, look for the RAID controller settings, either it's disabled, RAID, or IDE. If you only seen Disabled and RAID, then you'll need to go into the RAID controller setup instead of BIOS setup to change to IDE. If still can't do this, then you have to follow my suggestion in the first place.
I guess you've already have the perception on MSI board and I don't think anyone can convince you further. Good luck to you on whatever board you use in the future. You're welcome back here if you have any MSI related questions.

  • DVD Question...please help

This may be a really silly question but... how can I play a regular DVD in quicktime. I downloaded the player in hopes I could watch my DVD's on it but now when I load a DVD nothing happens. Any ideas?
    Thanx

I'd suggest just using the DVD Player.app or VideoLan.app for DVDs.
QT Player can open the VOBs in the DVD if the MPEG2 PB component is installed. But the QT Player can open just separate VOBs, it can't play PCM or AC3 audio and it distorts and displays interlacing in PAL so it isn't very good.
Another alternative is to view the DVD via MPEG Streamclip. It can open the related VOBs all at once and it can play PCM and AC3 audio. It has very handy navigation options via the keyboard or via the GUI. It doesn't currently have an option for deinterlaced playback.

  • DVD question

My friend gave me a "vacation" DVD that was created in Australia. When I play it on my mac, it looks great. When I play it on my DVD player, its black and white and corrupted. Is this a PAL vs NTSC issue?
My second question is how do I create a quicktime file of the DVD so that I can bring it into Final Cut?
    THanks!

Non protected DVD's don't need to be ripped at all with MTR , you can drag the VIDEO_TS file to the desktop then open it in MPEG Streamclip (free, but to edit MPEG 2 you need Apple's MPEG-2 component which is not) and cut/trim it there. Dragging is much faster as well. And there is no need to buy Cinematize pro either.
MTR for non-protected DVD's as this is, is useful if you do want a particular title , chapter or title and range of chapters on the DVD. Play it to find out what part you want then use the Title/chapter setting to make a new VIDEO_TS folder of that selected portion.
MPEG Streamclip is superior video export quality to Handbrake by a factor of 10.
You can also change the frame rate if you want to convert PAL to NTSC - I have found at times files that are 25 fps (PAL) that I want to put on DVD in Toast. I convert them using MPEG STreamclip to the 29.97 FPS so Toast doesn't have a conniption when it sees a mix of 25 and 30 fps source files.
For a free application it is the most versatile video editing/converting toolkit that exists.

  • Many iMovie to DVD Questions

OK, guys, I'm in over my head here.
Working on the 3-night project shot last week. Will be making DVDs out of this project. Shot with HV30 in 30P mode, last night in Cine, too. Film noise/grain PLUS not best audio first 2 nights because shooting from too far away & bad lighting.
    1. For making DVDs, is it best to use iMovie HD6, 08, 09 (bought, but not installed yet), (or even FCE4-no experience with this at all, but have access)?
    2. Every time I've used iMovie HD6 or 08 in the past, when it gets to iDVD 08 it turns my Widescreen footage to Standard (I'm playing it on a Standard TV & want letterboxing) although it's Widescreen when testing iDVD project before burning. How do I keep it Widescreen??? This has been driving me crazy for awhile.
    3. As for sound, I tried boosting in iMovie HD 6 and it didn't sound that great. In iMovie 08, I remember you can boost up to 200% and normalize. Does that turn out better and is it worth the tradeoff if the final product (DVD) doesn't have as good picture quality as HD 6? For last 2 nights, I also recorded audio on a digital voice recorder. Is it worth it ( and HOW TO do it, no clapboard used) to try to use this audio in conjunction with the video shot and not the audio from the camcorder?
    4. Also, is tonight the time to upgrade and install 09? Or is it going to mess me up too much mid-project and DVD quality not as good and I should wait?
    5. Any plug-ins to reduce film noise/grain?
    6. Finally, what settings in iMovie 08 & 09 are best for exporting when final product is DVD? Been very confused with the Apple Forums discussion boards threads on "deinterlacing is not deinterlacing."
Phew! Sorry for so many questions. Anxiously awaiting the new iMovie 09: The Missing Manual!
    Thanks, Deborah
PS crossposting in both iMovie HD 6 AND iMovie 09 Forums.

    Hi
+1. For making DVDs, is it best to use iMovie HD6, 08, 09 (bought, but not installed yet), (or even FCE4-no experience with this at all, but have access)?+
For doing a DVD I would only use iMovie HD 6 or FinalCut any version.
If You are not use to FinalCut this can be a *big step up in learning* but when done
    very revarding.
+2. This has been driving me crazy for awhile.+
Not sure but I would make a WideScreeen project in iMovie HD 6 and when done close
iMovie open iDVD and select a 16x9 project then import the iMovie movie project into iDVD (icon with a Star on it)
(I never use the "Share(Export to iDVD" function in iMovie
One can force Letterboxing by starting a 4x3DV project, then import a still photo that
locks it to this. Now import Your 16x9 video and it will be forced into letterboxed 4x3.
Burning this as a 4x3 DVD should keep it letterboxed.
+3. Is it worth it ( and HOW TO do it, no clapboard used) to try to use this audio in conjunction with the video shot and not the audio from the camcorder?+
    To increase audio volume -
    • Select video clip
    • Goto Advance then down to Extract Audio
    • Increase this to 150%
    • Select original video clip and restore audio to 150% too
    Now You got 300%
If You need more then copy the audio clip and paste it ontop of itself as many time as needed
Quality. Increasing = more audio problems.
alt. is to export out audio (as QT .aiff) and adjust it in an another program as
"Audacity" (free) or in SoundSoap™ if You got ayn this (or by all means use GarageBand)
    Sync.
To sync external audio recorders - Tough often near impossibly. The device has
to have a TimeCode to be able to keep sync. There are no easy solution as I know of.
+4. Also, is tonight the time to upgrade and install 09? Or is it going to mess me up too much mid-project and DVD quality not as good and I should wait?+
I would not - neither iMovie'08 or 09 will work optimal if You want a DVD as result.
I NEVER change anything Mid-project (Mac OS, QuickTime or program version)
    +5. Any plug-ins to reduce film noise/grain?+
Don't think so but by exporting out or using FinalCut there are good tools in
QuickTime, GarageBand, Audacity, SoundSoap and FinalCut
    Take a look into
    Stupendous software http://www.stupendous-software.com
    GeeThree http://www.geethree.com
    cf/x. http://www.imovieplugins.com
    Apple http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/ezediapluginsforimovievol1.html
    http://www.imovieplugins.com/fxhome.html
+6. Finally, what settings in iMovie 08 & 09 are best for exporting when final product is DVD? Been very confused with the Apple Forums discussion boards threads on "deinterlacing is not deinterlacing."+
DE-interlacing is not the problem - It is that both 08 and 09 delete every second line
when going to iDVD. Sharpness is degraded. iMovie HD or FinalCut doesn't do so but
    let You have full quality.

    Hi there..
I tried to make a short HD project in 4.7GB DVD by Mac pro Standard DVD Writer and i tried to play it in Toshiba HD-EP10 - HD DVD Player ( it gives msg ... the disc not contained DVD format and cannot be played ) so what is the mistake which i maded??
Mac Pro DVD writer can Burn HD Project OR should i by HD DVD Burner?
Can i make HD DVD in 4.7GB DVD?

how about the HD DVD Burning .. should i buy HD DVD Burner or the mac pro DVD Writer will solve this problem? and it will burn HD DVD SL-15GB and DL-30GB ?
You cannot burn a 15 or 30 Gig DVD from DVD SP and it is not supported by DVD SP. You can build those to a hard drive for replication
also what is the basic steps to creat the HD project in HD DVD not the DVD 5 and compatible with the toshiba player?
    Best Regard.
You can make a HD DVD on the DVD 5 which will play with the Toshiba and it will give HD quality (and will not play on an SD player) video results, though you cannot author the extras that HD has (the new features in HD as compared to SD DVD), pretty much menus and playback of video. The steps above will create the DVD 5. Have not tried writing to a DVD 9 size for more running time

  • Backing up to DVD questions

Decided I ought to backup my iTunes Library to DVD since I have some things there I can't get back. I don't have a big library so it only took two disks (I have many .aif files).
At the top was the progress bar showing how long it would take (20 mins or so per disk).
When it was done it said, "Finishing disk... this may take an hour or so."
Wow, I thought, I guess I'll do something else. Then, doink, it was done and the disk ejected. This happened on both disks.
Did this "hour" only take a minute because of the small volume of the library, or what?
Second question, if I "consolidate" my library will this bring in any and all music files, like my GargageBand loops and files?

Did this "hour" only take a minute because of the small volume of the library, or what?
The time remaining is only an estimate.
Second question, if I "consolidate" my library will this bring in any and all music files, like my GargageBand loops and files?
No. Consolidate simply looks at everything you have in iTunes and copies them to the iTunes music folder location specified in iTunes prefs -> Advanced.
Consolidate is how you move your iTunes music folder to a new location.
Also, if you have *Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library*, unchecked and add music to iTunes, iTunes will use the file wherever it is located and not copy it to the iTunes music folder.
Consolidate will copy them into the iTunes music folder.

  • Slideshow on a DVD questions

    Hi...
2 questions about the adding a slideshow to a DVD using iDVD 08. Are you only able to allow one type of transition for the slideshow? I really would like to have an option where it randomly switches between types of transitions. Seeing the same transition for hundreds of photos is boring to me. Also, I chose the page turn transition to test out the slideshow on a DVD and it seems that right before it turns the page the picture goes blurry. Has anyone else noticed this? Please tell me there is a fix for this... and also a way to do multiple transitions on a finished DVD slideshow.
    Thanks!!

+right before it turns the page the picture goes blurry+
I have the same issue, and it happens with several different transition types (I tried dissolve, page turn, and cube and they all had the problem...) To me it looks like a glitch in the rendering process as it happens right before every transition starts, and the last picture of each slideshow (which has no subsequent transition) has no blur. Sadly, I have this problem with iDVD 6.0.3 and I was hoping that upgrading to iLife 08 might bring a fix.
I did notice, that the problem is most evident on my HD tv with a Panasonic DMR-EH75V DVD player. On my Macbook the problem is still unacceptably noticable, but not quite as bad. On a G3-powered slot loading iMac, the picture blur is nearly imperceptable. Finally on my old standard TV with a Samsung DVD-V1000 there is no hint of the blur problem.
It may be that changing settings on the DVD player can reduce or eliminate the blur, but for me that is not really an acceptable solution because I am creating a Wedding DVD for some clients and I have no idea what kind of hardware they will end up playing it back on.

  • MPEG2-DVD question

I have a premiere CS5 project with HD 1920x1080p 24fps.  I have (2) 45 minute timelines and I am using Encore to author my DVD.
Please help me understand the best way to approach this.
My first thought was to import both premiere timelines into encore and create the dvd.  The resulting project was about 6GB so I used a Dual Layer DVD-9 for the burn.
From reading comments here, I got the impression that exporting from Premiere and creating MPEG2-DVD files might be a better option for better quality.   I did this using Match Source Attributes and created two export files which I then brought into a new Encore project.  The resulting project totals about 4GB.
Did I do this right?   If this seems right, is the quality going to be the same using the second method?   If the second method is good, I would be happy as I would be able to use less expensive single layer DVDs vs dual layer DVDs.
Please let me know the best way to approch this.
    Thanks
    Ted

    Ted,
Glad you're asking these questions because they are exactly what I want to know too.
I have been importing sequences from Pr, then using the Progressive Hi Q 7Mb VBR 2-pass preset, which looked to be the highest quality preset.
However, after a series of problems (associated with multiple sequences in the one timeline), I re-coded using the Automatic preset.
I compared DVDs produced by the two presets on a high quality player.
I couldn't spot any differences in colour, contrast, brightness, etc, but I could see that when objects moved, the Automatic gave clearer motion! ie, less edge artifacts (can't remember the correct term).
This surprised me because I always thought a 2-pass encode was superior to a 1-pass one.
So, until I find out more about encoding, I'll stick to the Automatic preset for projects I encode in Encore.
Might try encoding in Premiere Pro  -  as Ann suggests.
Nevertheless, i'd be interested in your findings.
    Thanks
    Erik

  • Question about Toshiba Flash Cards

    Hello everyone,
Just a quick question. Is there any way that I can have the animation at the top of my screen turned off and STILL have the function keys functional? When I'm running multiple programs and/or on battery power, it takes forever for the animation to pop out and it's just an annoyance. Anything to fix it? Any other software to make them functional? Or any upgrades?
My system is Windows Vista, just in case someone wants to know.
    Thank you,
    Dave.

I need them because I go to university and the screen brightness and volume constantly need to be adjusted. It would just be nice to have my function keys working properly, as they should be. All of these problems I keep having with Toshiba has really made a horrible impression, and after this laptop is done, I am not buying a Toshiba product again.

  • Always on Menus HD DVD Question

Hello. I have a question about 'Always-on' Menus in HD DVD. Which software can do this. I have DVD STUDIO PRO 4.2.1. Can i create 'Always-on' Menus on HD DVD ? Greetings

    Hi
I believe your thinking in terms of Blu Ray HDMV authoring. DVDSP authors HD DVD standard content only - there are no "Always On Menus" in HD DVD. Only Standard Content menus similar to SD DVD.
