HD- DVDS and apple DVD player

Hey guys, I saw some threads on here saying that the macbook cannot play HD-dvds but I am a little confused as to why the apple dvd players have HD settings. Any thoughts would be fantastic.
Hope y'all are doing great!

Being able to support HD video is very different than being able to read HD Disc formats like HD-DVD or Blue Ray. The discs themselves are very different than standard DVD's. The drives cannot support the discs. That doesn't stop the mac from playing back or even burning HD content onto a regular DVD.

I'm having a problem connecting my BlueRay DVD player and other non-Mac devices to my AirPort Express network. Is there a limit on the number of devices I can connect to the wireless network? I never have a problem connecting a new Apple product (AirBook, iPad) and even a basic laptop. Thanks for your help.

The AirPort Express Base Station (AX) can support up to ten (10) simultaneously connected Wi-Fi clients.

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

  • Scripts works in Simulator and Apple DVD player but not on TV

I have a basic project with two different tracks.
The first one is video and audio. Plays "as is".
The second has video, two audio and one subtitle. Depending on which button, the second Track should be played with different audio and with/without subtitles.
(I use GPRM 1 to set the subs stream, GPRM 2 for the audio and GPRM 3 for menu button navigation).
On the second Track I have a pre-script that sets the streams depending on the value of GPRM 1 and 2.
Works fine in Simulator and in Apple DVD player, but not on the stand-alone player.
Any idea what might be the issue here?
    in short:
Button 1: Play Track 1 "as is" (audio 1, no subs)
Button 2: Play Track 2, audio 1, subs on
Button 3: Play Track 2, audio 2, subs off
Button 4: Play Track 2, "as is" (audio 1, subs off)
Menu button and End Jump should go to the corresponding menu button.
    Many thanks for your help.

It is part personal preference, part artistic, part what makes the user experience the best so there may not be one "right" answer and I have often made menus one way than changed them when viewing the DVD for something that seemed to work better.
Looking at you description I started playing with some ideas in my head and started typing them, then changed what I was writing
It sounds like you want chapter selections for both track 1 and track 2? If so it may make sense to have the initial menu have Track 1 and Track 2 buttons which then link to sub menus where there is "Play All," selections for each section of each movie and one last button for the preferences.
Alternatively you could also place the preferences selection button on the main menu, though since Track 1 does not sound like it really has preferences you need to make sure that users do not become confused and think they have turned something on/off and are not seeing these options when they thought they selected them when they play back Track 1.
Also with 6 to 8 chapter markers you may be getting close to the point where scripting could make it easier if your selections are just to play the sections - in other words for track 2 four stories take care of the combinations Audio 1/Sub Off, Audio 1 Subs On, Audio 2 Subs Off, Audio 2 Sub On. If the chapter selection starts the track a scene then plays through you can target chapter markers in the story so 4 stories takes care of it. If you are just playing sections you would need 4 x 6 or 8 chapters - 24 or 32 stories roughly. But it is actually fairly quick to do - just set up the intial Play All with all subtitles and audio selections unchecked except for "1" then copy from there. Probably should take under 10-15 minutes or so
Put a real quick thing together for a quick view of the tracks. I can flesh it out more if you like.

The main menu will be the title menu, then the sub-menus (including the set up menus) can be placed in the same VTS as the applicable tracks which can help a bit with DVD performance speed. Since there is 6 to 8 chapter markers on a track each of the main sub-menus would have 8-10 buttons which can work in the design.

  • I made a movie on iMovie and went to burn to DVD and of course I could not...contacted Apple and they said to download an app to help solve this problem...i did..so I could finally burn a DVD, but it will not play on my DVD player...HELP!!!

I made a movie on IMovie and went to burn it to a DVD ...I could not do this so I contacted Apple..they had me download an App and then I could make a DVD...but it will not play on my DVD player...does anyone know how I can solve this problem.. I purchased this to make DVD's and now I can not do that!!

This is a known issue.  It really comes down to two key factors - what type of DVD are you burning to + what type of DVD player you have.
This article will help.  It's lengthy and can be technical in some parts but should shed some light on your problem.

  • Using dvd player with apple TV and airplay

I am having problems to use the apple TV to see a DVD with the air play mode
I tried to watch a movie using the default DVD player that comes with my iMac and when I activated air play to connect the iMac with the projector through the Apple TV, the video window would go blank
The problem disappears as soon as I disactivate airplay but then I cannot use the projector big screen
Funny eough I do not have this problem when I use VLC to watch .avi files
    Can anyone help?
    thanks
    Valentina
PS I have the latest version of the Apple TV

it happens with remote desktop too it's the DRM copy protection of dvd's which kick in
so the native player is doing the right thing and VLC may be breaking the law as it's compromising the digital material in a way it could be copied

  • What kind of HDMI switch is recommended?  We have a Smsung TV and DVD player along with the Apple TV.

What kind of HDMI switch is recommended?  We have a Saimsung TV and DVD player along with the Apple TV..  The switch we bought works for a few days and then starts cutting out.  Thanks.

Does the TV not have multiple HDMI inputs?
    There are no "recommended" switches.
Buy a quality device that gets good reviews.

  • I just bought a movie from itunes and can I copy it to my DVD to watch on a DVD player or only on an APPLE product?

I bought bought a movie in itunes and want to copy it to a DVD to play on a DVD player. Can I or must it be an APPLE product? If so, am disappointed since I can buy music and I own it and I paid full price to own it.

You own it but you don't own the copyright.
Copying movies in iTunes is not permitted.

i just purchased an apple tv 3d generation.  When i connect it to my tv on hdmi1, and lose the sound to my fios tv channels and connectivity with a separate dvd player.  TV is on TV, dvd on video, and hdmi1 for apple tv. when i disconnect the apple tv, the sound comes back to my tv and i am able to access the dvd player.  can anyone help?

Sounds like a tv issues never heard about any hdmi device which when not being the active input source which would effect other hdmi inputs
Suspect it would even put your tv out of supporting hdmi correctly

  • I think the DVD player reader on my Mac is going bad. Is there a way to copy the files off of an Apple Install DVD onto an external drive and then do theinstall from the external drive?

I think the DVD player reader on my Mac is going bad. Until I get it fixed Is there a way to copy the files off of an Apple Install DVD onto an external drive and then do theinstall from the external drive? It's ILife 11 if that makes a difference. Finder won't let me see the files to copy. I know - dumb question.
    Thanks.

Adding an SSD is not a simple endeavour like adding additional memory or adding another hard drive to a Mac Pro. That's probably why the option is only offered as an option at the time of purchase. Even if your Apple store was willing to install the necessary parts you will probably be paying for 1-2 hours of labor plus the cost of purchasing the necessary service parts (SSD, bracket, cables, etc) which I suspect will make the upgrade cost much higher than what it costs to add the SSD option when purchasing a new system.
I use my system for business and need it to work reliably.  Even though I'm fairly handy with tools I would not be willing to risk damaging my system and voiding my warranty by opening my system and removing the logic board and several other parts in order to squeeze in an SSD option and attach the appropriate cables and brackets. I'm also not prepared to deal with the hassles of explaining why my system has unauthorized parts installed in the event I experience issues and need to make use of my Apple warranty. My time is valuable, so I would probably investigate external storage options, or if I needed the speed of an SSD, I would consider selling my existing system and then purchase a new system configured with an SSD.
If you haven't already done so I suggest doing a search on 'iMac SSD installation' to see what's involved. It might help you understand why the SSD option is not offered post purchase.

  • How can I use mirror imaging on my macbook pro to show a movie through my dvd player on my apple tv? just downloaded mountain goat and am unimpressed. when i try to mirror image a dexter dvd to my apple tv it gives me a checkered screen. anyone know why?

what do i do to mirror image dvd player to apple tv?

I have the same problem, just a chequered screen for me as well.
I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro & an Apple TV 3 so hardware is ok.
You'd think using an Apple app with the latest kit would'nt throw up any problems.
    Any ideas anyone?

  • DVD player 5.4 keeps crashing using a variety of DVDs.  I have OS 10.6.8, and have repaired permissions, verified the disc, and installed the 10.6.8 update combo.  Several previous questions have adressed this problem.  What is the solution?

DVD player 5.4 keeps crashing.  I have seen here that a number of other people have had this problem.  I recently started one DVD, and when I went back to it, it opened to a black screen twice.  It also crashes with other DVDs after I scroll ahead or back.  It gives an error message that it is skipping damaged areas, or sometines error 69889.  Playing this on a PC, however, there is no problem.  I repaired the permissions, verified the disc, and installed the OS 10.6.8 combo update, all to no avail.  Techs told me that it is usually the hardware, so I bought a LaCie external combo drive.  Still crashes.  Looked on Apple downloads and they don't list a 5.4 to replace this version.  Mac informer.com offers a free download for DVD 5.5- should I try this?  Why doesn't Apple fix this problem?

Your suggestions did not help.  I repeated them again after the first try did not succeed.  Any other ideas?
Would installing another copy of DVD 5.4 help?  How can I get another copy of DVD player 5.4, since Apple does not seem to offer it?  I do have the disc for Snow Leopard, but am not extremely tech savy (and maybe it is the same corrupted version).

  • How to connect apple tv to older tv's through dvd player?

Is there a way to connect the apple tv to an older tv through a dvd player or just to the tv?
    thx

No, you have to connect it to the TV. If you don't have an HDTV you would need to find a converter and HDMI is the only thing officially supported on the current model so there's no guarantee it'll work. Some have had success, others haven't

  • How to put a .mov file on a dvd using lion and have a commercial DVD player play my movie? iDVD is gone.  I never had it.

I have found a lot of frustration around this topic but no answers.
I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Version 10.7.4.
I have a video I made with iMovie.  I want to burn it to a DVD for commercial DVD playback.  It's as simple as that.
    Things I've tried.
    1. Using iMovie, I saved an HD version of the project to my desktop as a .MOV file.  I know I can just burn that to a DVD.  It won't play.  I need a utility/program to put the necessary files on the DVD so a commercial namebrand DVD player will have what it needs.
    2. I heard iDVD used to do this but it's not on my MacBook Pro (Lion OS).  I've researched things like "What replaced iDVD" but found nothing but a but of complaining.  (and I can see why).
    3. I have looked for freeware.  It all looks fishy.
    Other options I'm looking into.
Use my Mac and connect a cable to the big TV screen.  Play the movie using this screen as a secondary monitor.  Problem - I have a dozen cables but none for this combo.
Move the .MOV file to a PC and play it using QuickTime.  The cables I have will work for a PC to TV.  Sad option.

  • Can I use my dvd player with apple tv?

I just got an apple tv unit.  I have dvd's stored to a hard drive and want to stream to the tv through the apple tv unit.  However, the dvd player will not work when I do this.  It works fine if I play on the MacBook, but one of the primary reasons I got the apple tv unit was for streaming.  Is there an app or download to solve this problem?  Or, should I use a different dvd playing program or application?

Yes, you should be able to.
