HD/DVR Box Upgrade Play Back Sound Issues

I just upgraded my DH/DVR boxes and now when I pause live TV and then start playing the sound skips. It also happens with a recorded show. My old boxes worked fine and just connected my new boxes yesterday. Also it takes a long time when switching channels. Did start happening until the new boxes. They are Motorola RNG200N. Any ideas on why this is happening?

This is a a delayed response to this discussion but I thought I would share my problem with this.
I have a USB audio interface, which I have configured as the default sound device on my iMac (OSX Lion). This works well in all applications, except Flash.
I have the device configured at quite a high bit rate.
Flash doesn't like this - it makes very strange noises. The only work around I have found is to disable the sound interface when I am working in Flash, and use the built in speakers on my iMac.
It works, but I'm the kind of guy that likes things to just work =)
e.g. if iTunes can play mp3s through my sound interface, why can't Flash?
To be honest I think Adobe need to do a lot of work on the audio side of things with Flash. Not just playback - something a bit more flexible like Premier would be cool. Flash isn't dead yet. Come on Adobe!
A lot of the work I am doing at the moment requires building animation to a pre-recorded audio file.

Distorted play back sound

Hi and all the best to u all.I have just recorded some live vocal on garageband and went to play it back.It is playing back all distorted and sounds as if its slow any ideas.I am using the 002 Digidesign rack.

so are you recording first in GB and exporting to ProTools, or are you just using the 002 as an input device for GB? The reason I'm asking is that GB by default records at 44.1K and protools has options of 44, 48, and I believe 96K, and if you recorded in GB at 44.1K, exported it and tried to use that in a 48K protools project it would indeed sound quite distorted and slow...

Dvd studio pro: plays back sound witout image

I just burned a small project following all prescribed settings for compressing and mastering (these have worked in the past), the dvd will playback fine on my computer but when played back on home dvd system only the audio is present.

It seems to me that this comes under the "weird stuff is happening" with writable DVD media section. DVD+R and DVD-R are not the most reliable things in the world, especially with older players and strange things can happen. Here's what I would do:
First, confirm that your video cables are connected to the television from the DVD player (HDMI, DVI, Component, SVHS, RCA, etc.)
Second, what type of disc are these? Who is the manufacturer? Some are more reliable than others.
Third, try it out on a few different DVD players and a few computers.
Fourth, if you find that it works on most players, but not one, try changing the brand of disc. DON'T USE MEMOREX!!! Stick with Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim for the best results. Then try writing it at a slower speed.

IMovie HD refusing to play back sound

I imported audio and video from a dv tape, and the audio played while it was importing, so i know it recorded, but it will not show up when i try to play back a clip. where did my audio go?? please oh please help.

Most probably the GarageBand-fix will help - but see my general list on this
(some might not apply to You - others might do)
*No Audio in iMovie*
Most common origin is use of audio from iTunes.
Work around -
• Select needed audio to one new playlist
• Copy out this as an Audio-CD .aiff (not .mp3)
• Use this in the movieproject
Other origins are
1. strange/ailient file formats as -
• .mp3, .avi, .wmv etc
• Convert them into .aiff 48kHz 16-bit and use this
2. the Mac is set wrongly in regard of MIDI - *(the GarageBand-fix)*
• Close iMovie and other programs
• Start GarageBand
• Make a new GarageBand-project and play some notes
• Close GarageBand and Save
• Now try iMovie again
3. *No audio when playback in iMovie 1 to HD 6.*
a. in iMovie pref - deselect ”Playback via Camera”
b. in System preferences - see that Audio out is not set to zero. Mine often does this
without me knowing why.
Stuttering audio and video
1. FileVault is ON - Turn it off
2. More than 50 audio files in a movie-project
Mix down to one audio clip
3. Project is stored on one (USB) external hard disk - should be a FireWire one
4. the External hard disk is not Mac OS Extended formatted - but
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange and this will not work for Video.
5. To little free space on internal boot hard disk.
I go for a minimum of 25Gb free space when project is imported and edited and this goes for
4x3 SD Video. For 16x9 HD my guess would be about 5 times more at least.
Neither Mac OS, iMovie or iDVD can address any other hard disk than the boot drive for it’s
scratch files. (Unlike Final Cut Express/Pro where You select scratch disk/s)

VIDEO PLAY BACK - SOUND (Stop a UIloader?)

PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE!! I am going to rip my eyes out!
Here is what I have set up:
I have a website...

I have several pages set up on a main time line. Siting on my
main time line is a UI loader that automatically loads an mp3
player, which the client wants to play through, with out
interuptions. The pages have labeled frames, and the buttons have
eventlisteners to move the time line to the specific frame. On this
frame (say it is "video") I have a movie clip, with the page
content. Inside this movie clip time line I have a ui loader which
will load my flv playback component with various video.
So, the video loads perfectly, and everything is fine.
However, there are some complexities that I would like to remedy.
when you navigate away from the "video" frame, the sound from
the video continues to play. I would like that sound to stop, or is
there a way to stop the ui loader?
I want the video to play, and stop as you leave the frame
because I don't want the ui loader for the mp3 player to be
interrupted.
If anyone can help me it would be greatly
appreciated!!

Rob, thanks for gettting back...here is how I have it set up
and the code for it:
On my main timeline, I have labeled frames (music, video,
photos, gigs...etc) One a frame labeled "home" is were i have all
of the buttons (music, video, photos, etc...) siting with event
listeners telling the timeline to go to those frames. One the
"video" frame sits a movie clip, inside of this time line are some
more navigation buttons, very simple. (basically you are navigating
deeper inside other timelines- 2 to be precise)
when you navigate to the section with the video, this is how
i have it set up. I have a button, and I gave it an instance of
"train_btn". Then I have a UI Loader sitting next to it. I gave
that an instance of "swfbox". Then, on that frame I set this code"

So, everything works, but, I want to be able to navigate away
and not hear the sound, also, I will eventually be adding more
video, which I want the ui loader to load...so, if it loads another
video, i don't want the sound from the first one to continue
either.

Dvd play back speed issue

I have a project where the M2V files are on one timeline with subtitles. There are title files next to the video files all compressed using the same compressor settings. When I play the dvd on a dvd player (I have tried several) the title plays fine but the first couple of seconds of the video is sped up and then returns to being perfectly in sync. On a PC/Mac dvd player this does not happen nor on the simulator in studio pro. Does anyone have any ideas why this happens and any suggestions of how to repair it.

Not sure what cuased this problem which is a worry but the solution was to export the mpeg from dvd studio pro and reimport it back in. This creates a single video file of all the parts of video files on DVD studio pro timeline.

My podcasts download from laptop iTunes but play back sounds like the chipmunks!

I download podcasts to my laptop for use on iPhone, iPod and shuffle (different places, different situations). Only problem is that the playback on the iPhone is so speeded up, it sounds like the chipmunks! Any suggestions?

This is correct and it's got to be the stupidest tiny icon anyone could sabotage a nice podcast with - but thanks for nothing (i.e. useless crud). But at least iPhone folks help one another out. Thanks,

Multi-Room DVR can't play recordings properly

Wondering if anyone else has this problem, or knows of a solution.
I have Multi-Room DVR. In the past, my biggest problem with it was that recordings would occasionally freeze when played on a remote box (i.e. not the main DVR box). I would have to reset the system and try to get past the moment in the recording that was causing the error. The key discovery was that the recording would play fine on the DVR itself, so the problem had something to do with the communication between the DVR and the remote box. It's as if there was an error in the recording that the DVR knew how to resolve during playback but the remote box didn't.
Now I'm having a new but similar problem. Recording plays fine on the DVR itself. On the remote box, when I hit a specific moment in the recording, it freezes for a second, then continues but th picture becomes pixelated. To imagine the picture, draw a horizontal line halfway up the picture. Everything above that line is fine. Below it, the right half of the image is now on the left and vice versa. Plus random pixelation. Also the sound becomes "pixelated" in the sense that it turns into a mess of beeps and stutters.
Once this happens during the recording, it continues until the end.
I know the recording itself is fine because the main DVR box can play it without error.
I talked to a tech. He reset the boxes and checked the connection levels. Everything seems fine. His advice was to monitor it, and if it happens again, they'll have to replace everything.
Anyone with a similar problem? Was it resolved by changing the boxes out?

I would suggest the following:
From the non-DVR STB that has the pixelated recordings, try following troubleshooting steps:
Menu -- Customer Support -- In Home Agent -- Reboot STB
Menu -- Customer Support -- In Home Agent -- Set Top Box Auto-Correction
Also, if the problematic STB is a Motorola 6000 series, I'd recommend replacing it with a newer model.
Moreover, try the autocorrection technique for the MRDVR (if the above two are confirmed OK) via the remote.

If all else fails, contact Verizon's Technical Support at 1-888-553-1555.

Lastly, if the TV show is a fairly popular, the recorded episode might be available ON DEMAND via "Free & Premium" -- TV Shows --- By Network (find network name alphabetically) from the "On Demand" on the TV Remote.

Weird timing issues when playing back a recorded sound file and with synths

Hello there,
I'm having a couple of strange issues with playing back files that I have recorded using MIDI data which is then used to play an external synth which then gets recorded to an audio track which at the time is perfectly synced to a click track.
The problem is (and I really dont get why this is happening) when it comes to playing back the recorded audio file that sometimes it is either behind or ahead of the beat.
This makes absolutely no sense because sometimes it IS in time with the beat and other times when I play through my piece it is obviously out! I haven't moved the audio file in the arrange window and it is a permanent .aiff file that is stored on my hard-drive...what on Earth is going on?
On a side note, the same problem happens with any of Logic's synths when I use an LFO that is supposed to be synced to the beat. Sometimes when I play back the MIDI data it is perfectly synced and in time and other times it is horribly out. It really is just pot luck!
Anyone got any ideas?

I have the LifeProof case for the iPhone5, and I remember the instructions saying that any protective screen cover should be removed before enclosing the phone into the case, but I left mine on with no ill effects.
But I should have taken off the back protective film, which was covering the video mic!

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

Can't get sound to play back on Movie Maker when recording with internal webcam/microphone

I have a Windows 8, 64-bit Envy notebook. I tried using Google Hangouts but there wasn't any sound (the camera was fine).
Later, I decided to test the internal microphone myself by creating a Movie Maker file, and clicking on Webcam and making a recording. The camera worked but it played back in total silence.
I checked the settings for the microphone and the internal mic was properly set as the default. I turned up the volume to the maximum. Then I found directions for doing a sound check, and I was able to do the Sound Recording check and get audio when I played the file back.
But when I tried again to make a video, i got zero in the playback.
Any idea what's going wrong?

I have read your post on how you are not able to get sound from your notebook computer, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To restore the audio to your notebook, I recommend following this document on No Sound from Speakers (Windows 8). This should help with the playback on your system.
In addition, you can also follow @SuperMario1's thread on Troubleshooting Guide: Audio does not Work after a Certain Period of Time. This guide should help with your notebook's audio output in regards to a recent Windows Update.
For more assistance, I will need to know:
The Product and Model Number of your notebook computer.
If your computer has completed all of its important Windows Updates.
If you have updated your HP drivers using the HP Support Assistant.
If this is an on-going, or recent issue.
