HD equivalent of streamclip

Please excuse the length of my question (I like to explain myself fully to be understood) as I may have asperger's syndrome.
(at the moment I have version 8.0 but am saving up for a new laptop and will buy the latest version early next year)
Let's pretend for a moment that we're back in the era where HD is so new that hardly anyone here has it.
It took a long time to find the perfect way to prepare (SD) videos to bring in to PE. Along comes (thanks to this forum) Streamclip which is the super solution I've longed for for years. That can convert MPEGs and VOBs beautifully into DVC pro - a variant of DV-avi and viola! Lovely clean videos that Prem El works with, just as well as if they were captured from your miniDV camera through firewire. Solved.
Now. Prem El nowadays lets you begin a project with an MPEG setting, I suppose for the newer camcorders that film in MPEG onto memory cards and the like. Although this works well, and it seems that Prem El is now working natively with MPEG (note that I said "seems") some still swear by starting your project in the good old DV setting, and streamclip is the best way to prep your vid bits. I think this is still the case in 2012 with the current PE version (where are we now, 11? Something like that).
Okay so as long as streamclip can bring it in, you're sorted. Only in the rare instance that you have a clip that streamclip can't bring in (and that is rare), must you first convert it into MPEG (or whatever) first, but it's not often that you have to have this other layer of complexity. So, working in standard definition where the end result burning a DVD is completely sorted - apart from one thing - don't mix pal and ntsc clips together in the same project, unless you don't care that you'll get motion issues. Set your project settings to the what is the majority of your clips is. Use G Spot to tell you the frame rate, and if all but one of your clips is NTSC, then set your project as - oh you get the point.
OK let's move on. Now I AM gonna talk about HD now.
I have prem El 8, and I've been given the challenge by my bosses (we show student films and things for education events - all copyright considerations are sorted) to go to the next level and make a compilation of HD clips and show them with either a blu ray, or a DOREMI cinema player (creating DCPs is easy so I'm not asking you about that)
I've started testing these, and HD clips are a curious animal, as they come with many screen resolutions and frame rates, with more codecs doing them justice with no artifacts that as was in the SD world.
I was so spoilt with Streamclip making everything PremEL ready in SD that I now have a thirst to find something like it, that can take a whole load of different HD clips, and convert them beautifully into something that PremEl loves.
Does there exist a thing of such wonder?
Also despite what is says in the Share section (export full 1920x1080 in H264 etc) My Prem El. Version only exports its timeline in what turns out to be Mt2, then I have to use something else to convert it into H264 or .Mov.
Do more recent versions or Prem El export into a larger range of codecs?
I don't mind paying a small amount for extra software, but not if I know that future Prem El's mean I don't have to.
thank you for being patient.
mj

The best program for working with a variety of clips and converting them to a common format is Quicktime Pro, which costs $29 and can be downloaded from Apple.com. It may not work with everything out there (since mobile phone and camcorder makers keep inventing new codecs all the time) but it should work with most.
Another great video converter is the Aunsoft Video Converter, a $35 download.
If you're looking for an editing program that you just dump whatever you want into it without regard to format, iMovie does a very good job with virtually any format -- though, of course, this program is only available in the Mac format.

  • Using MPEG Streamclip for Mac. Help me if you can

    Hi, I've found out about MPEG Streamclip in Apple Discussions.
    I opened Streamclip for the first time and converted an .mpg file to .mov file by clicking File>Export to Quicktime. It successfully converted quickly and I opened it w/ Quicktime and was satisfied to open its properties and see two individual tracks for visual and audio. This should convert to iPod video format w/ sound, correct? What bugs me is the fact that the file size multiplied by 4, or went from 256MB to 1GB.
    I would like to know the perfect exporting settings for good iPod quality (sound and visual) and reasonable size. What scares me is that if and when this newly 1GB file is converted to iPod, it'll be even larger, since a previously successfully converted movie went from 3.5MB to 5.1MB.
    I'd like to know your experiences of using Streamclip. Should I experiment? What setting did you use to get the mpeg files to .mov files with smallest size and equivalent quality? Any reply is appreciated, and ones that answer my questions shall be favoured.
    thnx for your time

    In a nutshell, YES you should experiment. You should also try iSquint incidentally.
    However, MPEG Streamclip 1.5.1 has an iPod button if you do File -> Export to MPEG4. Clicking that button sets the parameters to equal what the iPod would need to display without having to convert to a QuickTime movie first. Do one both ways to see if QuickTime and MPEG Streamclip's output looks identical (I've found QuickTime does a better job on animation).

  • Best Streamclip settings for iPhone 4 Video - to edit in FCE

    First, the problem: iPhone 4 records HD video in h.264. But Final Cut Express doesn't have sequence settings for editing h.264 or iPhone video clips.
    The solution: I'm using Streamclip to convert all of my iPhone 4 videos to a format FCE lets me edit in.
    Question: What are the optimal settings to insure that my final output retains quality almost equal to the original video shot on my iPhone? (More specifically, I plan on uploading to Youtube as a HD video).
    I've read somewhere that I should convert to Quicktime Movie format, with Apple Intermediate Codec 720p 30fps. Is that the best compression type to convert to for editing iPhone 4 videos in FCE? If so, how should the other settings in streamclip be jiggered? For instance, does it make much difference if I set the Quality slider to 100% (As opposed to the default at 50%?) What about audio compression settings?
    (P.S. I think it's very annoying that I can't directly edit a video from iPhone 4 on another consumer Apple product, the FCE. Does FCP let me directly edit h.264/iphone 4 videos?)

    The slider makes no difference as AIC is variable bit rate within a specific range. No audio compression in FCE ever. Uncompressed stereo 48k, the video standard sample rate.
    It would be truly miraculous if FCE worked with iPhone media as the current version predates it by three years, which in computer lifetimes is two generations, basically the equivalent of your grandfather having developed an app for a smartphone when he was a young man. FCP is a mere year old, well before the iPhone did video. Furthermore, if you'd read the forums, you'd see that H.264 is an acquisition and delivery forward. It is not used in production. The codec is not suitable for efficient production and really should never be used there. It's very unfortunate that camera manufacturers have taken the cheap way out and used this codec, rather than actually developing and using a suitable intraframe production codec.

  • Getting Around MPEG Streamclip "No Audio" Problem

    (Long post; apologies in advance.)
    I needed to get around the MPEG Streamclip "no audio" problem that other people here have had. I just found a workaround that more-or-less works for my specific situation ... and it's free to boot.
    Since other people are having this problem, I thought I'd let you know what happened to me, so you can decide if this is something you want to try. If you do, I suggest posting replies here so we all can learn (if that's okay with the board moderators here).
    QTAmateur for MacOS X is available at http://www.mikeash.com/software/qtamateur/ . The developer has a somewhat full explanation of what it does at the site, so I won't repeat it here (and I don't get anything for talking about it here; I just want to share the good news).
    Right now I'm field recording with a Flip Mino camera (non-HD), which saves video/audio to an AVI file (3ivx MPEG-4, 640x480) at 30 fps, with 44.1 kHz audio (Microsoft ADPCM). Funny thing is the files from my Flip actually imported into FCE without any conversion, but I had to render everything. And the video looked like crap. Hated the rendering and the look, so I searched for other solutions.
    After paying for a couple of things that didn't work (lessons learned there), I finally found MPEG Streamclip. Since I'm using Snow Leopard, I sunk the additional $20 into the dang MPEG-2 playback component after my initial export try didn't produce any audio. After the component install, I still didn't have audio. Grrrrr.
    So I Googled a bunch of keywords, and I somehow stumbled across this QTA package. Snow Leopard users should note a minor drawback here: QTA needs QuickTime 7, which gets blown away in a Snow Leopard upgrade and is not included in new Macs with Snow Leopard. Users can get off of their Install DVD, though, so it's not a huge deal.
    When exporting from QTA, I matched its settings (audio and video) with the ones I found in this document: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12274888&#12274888 . QTA's export interface is actually QT7s, so at least that's familiar.
    The only problem I'm having is that even though I set QTA to export at 29.97 fps, the exported files are still at 30 fps. A quick change in FCE upon import is the only thing I needed to use the file without rendering. I also had to change the fps setting on my LiveType files.
    The only thing I need to figure out is to how to match up some studio-recorded audio with all of the above, so I don't have to render the studio audio and so it comes out at the equivalent of 30 fps. I think all I need to do is record at 44.1 KHz and I'm okay.
    Of course, this is all my experience, and I realize others may not be able to work with this kind of setup. But I think this is an interesting workaround .. I wouldn't really call it a full solution, though, mainly because of the 29.97 fps versus 30 fps aspect.
    One other quick thing: I'm not sure if this works without that $20 MPEG-2 playback component from Apple (thanks for that charge, Apple!), since I already had the component installed when I discovered QTA. Someone without the component, though, can download this and see if it works. If it does, then we all know that we don't need to spend the extra $20 for it to work.
    If you decide to take the plunge, please let us know here. Thanks for reading.

    @Tom and @Meg:
    Thanks so much for your replies (speedy, too!). I especially want to thank Meg, who took the time to replicate the problem (which confirms to myself that I'm not nuts ). At least I know I have an ultimate "savior" in QT7 Pro.
    Before I spend that final $30, though, I want to see if Tom can help, based on what the QT Inspector says about my .avi files from the Flip. Here's what it says:
    VID00001.AVI
    Format: Generic MPEG-4, 640 x 480, Millions
    Microsoft ADPCM, Mono, 44.100 kHz
    FPS: 30
    Data Rate: 3408.53 kbits/s
    Normal Size: 640 x 480 pixels
    Current Size: 640 x 480 pixels (Actual)
    (that's word for word, except for the source [file location]; wish I could figure out how to paste in the window from my Grab of it.)
    I've already done the exports in the same way Meg indicated in her reply, trying all kinds of combinations. When exporting, though, I've always used DV/DVCPRO w/audio @ uncompressed 48k, and frame size @ 720x480 @ 29.97fps settings (saw those in another post here at the forum). I'm thinking those aren't contributing to my situation.
    Whaddya think, Tom?
    BTW, the biggest reason why I want to have the audio is to easily sync the audio off the digital recorder (I hook myself up with a lav mic) to the audio coming off of the Flip. I do the ol' "triple clap" trick to sync audio, so that helps -- thank goodness for audio waveforms in FCE.
    Once synced, I then delete the Flip audio and move the digital recorder audio up to A1/A2 (although I delete the A2 audio channel). Sounds 1000% better than the Flip audio, as I record outside and the Flip mic picks up wind big-time.
    BTW, Tom: I bought your book earlier this week. It's really, really good. You could teach an entire college semester class off of this book, and do it well. I'm getting to more of the lessons this week.

  • Unwatchtable results when converting to H.264 (MPEG Streamclip 1.8)

    I converted several movies to H.264 a year ago using an older version of MPEG Streamclip, using the exact same settings (H.264, 720x576, 25 fps, 2400 kbps). These movies play fine on the atv. Movies that I recently converted, using MPEG Streamclip 1.8 and newer versions of QT (whatever the current version is) no longer play correctly on the atv. These newer conversions flicker green and really have no dicernable picture. The atv attempts to play the content (no error message), but the displayed picture is just a torn up mess. These newer conversions play fine on the Mac
    (in iTunes or QT Player). Does anyone know what's wrong or how to work around this problem?
    Thanks.

    Codec: H.264
    Size: 720x576
    Bitrate: 300 KBps
    Quality: 100%
    I stored this settings about 2 years ago as a preset.These settings do lot look right. If saved 2 years ago with a data rate of 300 Kbps, this should have been an iPod preset (likely for a 320 x 240) or possibly quarter PAL display dimensions "Baseline" profile. (I.e., roughly half the recommended iPod setting but a setting likely good for web use.) Baseline, files, despited their low data rate, would have been iPod compatible then and TV compatible now.
    As I said before, the resulting movies all work fine on the atv except the very latest.Actually, in your original post, the settings you gave look more like they are for a PAL "Main" profile if you are using 720 x 576 dimensions and a data rate of 2400 Kbps. The problem is if your are using the "Baseline Low Complexity" profile, then this file will likely be trapped by iTunes as not be within acceptable "LC" profile specifications and I would assume not sync with either iPod or TV devices. On the other hand, if you are using the "Main" profile, then the file should be TV compatible but not iPod compatible.
    I believe, unlike Handbrake, MPEG Streamclip uses Apple's H.264 Codec.The MPEG Streamclip default is H.264, but MPEG-4 is also available if you select it. However, even the MPEG-4 codec was originally limited to 900 macro-16 blocks back then -- usually assigned as a 480 x 480 display encode matrix. This was increased to 1200 macro-16 blocks when the "Low Complexity" H.264 format was introduced for MPEG-4 640 x 480 compatibility. However, even now, according to Apple, the MPEG-4 "Simple" profile is limited to 1215 macro-16 blocks or a 720 x 432 display encode matrix -- not 720 x 576.
    I'm going to attempt to compress something with the Quicktime Pro tool as a comparision.Suggest you run your tests using H.264 "Main" profile at originally posted settings, switch to "LC" compatible H.264 dimensions/data rates, or use MPEG-4 at stated data rate but using compatible dimensions (e.g., 16:9 aspect ratio 720 x 400 display which is equivalent to a compatible 1125 macro-16 blocks).

  • Equivalent of MS Access First Function in SQL for Group By

    We previously had an Access database performing operations. We are now converting it over to SQL. There are queries in Access that use the "First" function to insert data, which I have not been able to find the equivalent to in SQL. Below is an
    example showing the data used, the SQL syntax and the results that it would produce.

    FROM tbl_Data td
    GROUP BY td.FirstN, td.LastN, td.Cust;
    If anyone could assist me in an alternative that I could use in SQL to yield the same results, I'd appreciate it.

    tbl_Data

    As an aside that query is not correct in Access -  because you did not specify an ORDER BY the resultset has no particular order so you could get either row for Jim or Sally.
    It's a bit of a tricky one as it may on the surface appear that the resultset is always returned in a consistent order but this is not guaranteed (not in Access and certainly not in SQL server)

  • Is there a logic:match equivalent for JSTL?

    In a search page I execute a query which returns an array of objects (All objects are of the same object type and are cast to Object[]) and each object has many attributes. I tried using <logic:iterate>, but I was never successful in having it display any results. I believe this had something to do with the entire array being passed via session scope instead of just one record and me not specifying it properly with <logic:iterate>. I was able to successfully use <c:forEach> and it worked right away. I stuck with using that because of its "just works" ability in addition to using a lot of other JSTL code. However, one of the attributes that is being printed out needs to be parsed and is of the form "Yxxx". <logic:match> covers this very nicely, but when I specify it in the below code it is not able to find my variable in any scope.
    <c:forEach var="myResults" items="${sessionScope.result}" varStatus="status">
        <logic:match parameter='${myResults}' property='pin' value='Y'>
            <c:out value="Preeti"/>
        </logic:match>
    </c:forEach>I have done several google searches, but I haven't found a JSTL equivalent for <logic:match>. If there is one could someone please tell me what it is? In addition, although <logic:match> is great I still need to print out a substring of that attribute. Could someone tell me how to do that? If this is not possible could someone please tell me if its possible to use <logic:iterate> with an array of objects like I was attempting to do initially so that I could use <logic:match> at least?
    Thanks to all of you for your time.

    Yes you can use the logic:iterate tag. I think you have to specify the type of the exposed variable though. I prefer the forEach loop.
    I think you are using the wrong attribute in the logic:match tag. You should be using the "name" attribute rather than "parameter"
    Parameter attribute refers you to a request parameter, and I pretty sure you don't want that.
    So given the collection of objects in the session attribute "result"
    This should loop through them all, and see if they start with the letter 'Y'
    <c:forEach var="myResults" items="${sessionScope.result}" varStatus="status">
        <logic:match name='myResults' property='pin' value='Y'>
            <c:out value="Preeti"/>
        </logic:match>
    </c:forEach>As for the latter bit, are you using a JSP2 container and JSTL1.1? It would appear so seeing as you are trying to use EL expressions in the logic:match tag.
    If so, you could make use of the JSTL function library:
    <c:forEach var="myResults" items="${sessionScope.result}" varStatus="status">
       <c:if test='${fn:startsWith(myResults.pin, "Y")}'>
          <c:out value="${fn:substring(myResults.pin, 1, -1)}"/>
        </c:if>
    </c:forEach>And I've just spotted a very cool function in there: substringAfter
    <c:forEach var="myResults" items="${sessionScope.result}" varStatus="status">
          <c:out value='${fn:substringAfter(myResults.pin, 'Y')}'/>
    </c:forEach>Cheers,

  • Is there an equivalent statement in Java for this PL/SQL stmt?

    Hi,
    I want to know if there is an equivalent statement
    in java for this PL/SQL statement:
    IF strTok IN('COM-1','COM-2','COM-3') Then
    /* Do Something */
    End If;
    I tried using : // This is giving me errors..
    if (strTok.equals(("COM-1") || ("COM-2") || ("COM-3") ) )
    /* Do Something */
    The above Java code is giving me errors.
    Any Help to reduce the number of steps for comparison
    is appreciated.
    thanks in adv
    Sharath

    Something like
    if (strTok.equals("COM-1") ||
        strTok.equals("COM-2") ||
        strTok.equals("COM-3") )Justin

  • Create a table in SQL with datatype equivalent to LongBlob

    I have a mySQL or phpMyadmin table (nor sure) (with longblob fields) that I want to convert to SQL Server.
    Here is a link to a Rar with two files, the 'ORIGINAL CODE.sql' is the original code sample and the 'NEW_SQL_CODE.sql' is the code I am writing in SQL to create a database.
    Click to download the two files.
    I fail to make the insert in the 'NEW_SQL_CODE.sql', it says (translated from spanish) something like "The binary data will be truncated"
    INSERT INTO inmuebles_fotos (ci_inm, pos, foto, mini, comentario, inet, impr_cartel, impr_visita) VALUES
    (6, 0, 0xffd8ffe000104a46494600010100000100010...etc...
    I don’t know how if I have defined the wrong data type (image) equivalent to the MySQL LongBlob. All I want to do is to make that insert in SQL and save that image as jpg if possible. I don't know if it's not posible in SQL and can only
    be done in MySQL.
    Thanks for any help.

    The original table is not mine; I am just trying to save the images as .jpg in hard drive.
    Here is the original table I have that has 500Mb in pictures, in the sample there is only 1 picture:
    CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `inmuebles_fotos` (
    `ci_inm` int(10) unsigned DEFAULT NULL,
    `pos` smallint(6) DEFAULT NULL,
    `foto` longblob,
    `mini` longblob,
    `comentario` varchar(100) DEFAULT NULL,
    `inet` tinyint(3) unsigned DEFAULT '0',
    `impr_cartel` smallint(6) DEFAULT '0',
    `impr_visita` smallint(6) DEFAULT '0'
    ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1;
    And here is the equivalent table in SQL that I am trying to create to import al registers so I can save the pictures from SQL Server that is what we use here.
    CREATE TABLE [dbo].[inmuebles_fotos2](
    [ci_inm] [int] NULL,
    [pos] [int] NULL,
    [foto] [image] NULL,
    [mini] [image] NULL,
    [comentario] [varchar](1) NULL,
    [inet] [int] NULL,
    [impr_cartel] [int] NULL,
    [impr_visita] [int] NULL
    Sorry for the trouble, I am trying everything I get my hands on until I get to save those images in “0x1234567890ABCDE…….” Format.
    I'll try anything you sugest me but I have only use SQL Server so that's why I'm trying this road first.
    Thanks for your help.

  • MM03 equivalent DS for BW

    Hi, what is the equivalent DS in LBWE to capture MM03 data for sales org 2.  How do we make a report in BW for this requirement.  I need the DS for this.

    Hi,
    You can try to use datasource 0MAT_SALES_ATTR...
    If you would like to create queries based on characteristic values you should first create it as InfoProvider (in RSA1 go to InfoProvider and from menu choose something like "Create characteristic as...").

  • Not able to enable SSH user equivalency for RAC on RHEL 4

    Hi All,
    I am trying to install oracle RAC 11g on RHEL4 (on VMware), I am using below document for reference.
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/OracleDB11gR1RACInstallationOnOEL5UsingVMware.php
    Every thing went fine till "SSH user equivalency", but I am not able to SSH and SCP between servers without entering passwords.
    I have tried removing .ssh folder & recreating pub file twice but it did not helped.
    am i missing something?
    Please advice.
    Thanks,
    Abhay.

    Configure SSH on each node in the cluster. Log in as the "oracle" user and perform the following tasks on each node.
    su - oracle
    mkdir ~/.ssh
    chmod 700 ~/.ssh
    /usr/bin/ssh-keygen -t rsa # Accept the default settings.
    The RSA public key is written to the ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub file and the private key to the ~/.ssh/id_rsa file.
    Log in as the "*oracle*" user on RAC1, generate an "authorized_keys" file on RAC1 and copy it to RAC2 using the following commands.
    su - oracle
    cd ~/.ssh
    cat id_rsa.pub >> authorized_keys
    scp authorized_keys rac2:/home/oracle/.ssh/
    Next, log in as the "oracle" user on RAC2 and perform the following commands.
    su - oracle
    cd ~/.ssh
    cat id_rsa.pub >> authorized_keys
    scp authorized_keys rac1:/home/oracle/.ssh/
    The "authorized_keys" file on both servers now contains the public keys generated on all RAC nodes.
    To enable SSH user equivalency on the cluster member nodes issue the following commands on each node.
    ssh rac1 date
    ssh rac2 date
    ssh rac1.localdomain date
    ssh rac2.localdomain date
    exec /usr/bin/ssh-agent $SHELL
    /usr/bin/ssh-add
    You should now be able to SSH and SCP between servers without entering passwords.
    hope, this may helps you.
    enjoy.

  • What is equivalent ASCP report for Planned Order&Order Reschedule Report

    What is equivalent report for Supply Chain Planned Order Report & Supply Chain Order Reschedule Report
    We are currently on MRP and running Supply Chain Planned Order Report successfully. We are planning to go to ASCP(Decentralized) next month ,what is the equivalent reports in ASCP?

    Hi ,
    You can explore the Planning Detail Report which you can run against your ascp plan. However there are few standard reports available in ascp. I suggest you can explore option of building custom report which will be best suited to your business needs (i.e. using Discoverer or if you are also implementing obiee you can build a custom report based on standard views or noitex views (- for ascp)

  • IPhone SDK - What is the equivalent of a combo box

    I have a screen where there are quite a few items which are of the multiple-choice type. In other platforms i use a combo box (pick lists) to do this.
    On the iPhone SDK the only thing that comes close is the UIPicketView which is ugly IMHO. it takes too much real estate and too heavy.
    Is this is the only control available now?
    Also does the UIPicker come with an associated control which will launch the picker? What i mean is on other platforms and on the web there is a text field with a button with a down arrow next to it. Clicking either on the text field or the down arrow drops the list down. Is there a similar control on the iPhone which when clicked launches the picker OR do i have to create a button or a custom view which will launch the picker?
    Thanks for reading this and for your feedback.
    -TRS

    I do not believe there is an equivalent of -D in the DB JVM, a possible solution is:
    Load a properties file into the DB using Loadjava, then open this file from your Java code using Properties.load(), then iterate the properties calling System.setProperty().
