HD external on the Mac Air

How do I use my external hard drive on my Mac Book Air, without losing my files?...

You see this when you connect your external drive?
(This is described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427 .)
If so, you can just click "Decide Later" or "Don't Use", and use your disk as you wish from then on.

Can the mac air print to HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 plus Wireless e-all-in-one?

AirPrint is an iOS 5 protocol.  It is not used on the Mac or Lion.  What you *can* do is add the wireless printer to you network and print from the mac using that.

  • Please, the battery of my mac air does not last more than two hours, it's been over 30 days I sent for technical assistance and nothing! I am very disappointed with the mac air, I had a very different expectation of apples products!!

Maybe the problem is not your MB Air......
    Try these:
Make sure bluetooth is turned off if you're not using it.
Set your screen brightness to 4 bars.
See what's loading in your login items.  Delete the ones you don't need.
Open Activity Monitor - under All Processes see what's using most of your CPU's resources.
Highlight the ones with the highest %CPU and hit quit process.
Remember that when Apple says that your battery should last 7 hours, they tested it just browsing the web and not have anything open in the background and screen is set at 50% brightness.

  • Does the Mac Air come in a matte screen option at all?

I use the computer for graphics and BIM so am looking at the computer screen often for large amounts of time using high detail. I find the matte screen of my ibook good for my eyes (not sore or watery). I am upgrading to Mac Air and was just wondering whether anyone knows if apple can custom make a matte screen for the 13" Mac Air or if screen protectors are very effective at making the screen easier to view? Can anyone who has used the Mac Air for high detailed graphics recommend a good screen protector? Thanks!

Unfortunately not. It's really crazy that Apple doesn't offer matte screens on more of their computers. They only have one option for it on the MacBook Pro, but it's not worth it for how much it costs. If you look around the net, you'll see an outcry for matte screens, even petitions, but Apple sticks to the glossy stuff which is terrible.
I'm in the market to get a new laptop, and having a matte screen is a definite must. They're so much easier to read, less eye strain, better for people with eye problems (and those who don't) to stare at. Glossy has been shown to even give more headaches. I can't stand glossy screens. I'm on my 2006 MBP, matte came standard back then.
I'd ideally like to get a 13" Air, but I can't stand glare so I am looking at getting a Samsung new Series 9, it has an awesome matte screen. If that means switching to Windows 7, so be it. Apple did it to themselves.

  • Using a mtech hiface usb device with macbook air is producing a lot of static. when i touch the mac air it stops then starts when i remove my hand. Help?

Im using a mtech hiface usb device for audio on my Mac Air. If i disconnect it from its ac and disconnect the hiface from the usb then take the Mac Air to a new location to work then return it I have an awful lot of static. im assuming its static electricity from the move or something. ive tried to ground it with my body by touching the mac air while touching something grounded. The static stops at that point but starts all over when i move my hand away from the computer. Any suggestions, could it be a setting in the USB? Thanks.

how long have you had your ipod? mine did the same but after a while you need to get a new one because of the battery...

where are normal computer games on the mac air laptop like solitaire, etc..

There's a chess game in the Applications folder. Otherwise, search a place such as MacUpdate or the Mac App Store for games you're interested in.

  • HT4413 I started the migration assistant but it stopped and the Mac Air locked up.  I would like to undo what the migration assistant has done so far.  Is that possible...and how do I get the new Mac Air unlocked?

I have a new Mac Air and started the migration assistant.  It stopped at some point and the Mac Air locked up...the cursor moves but I can't get anything to happen on the screen.  I would like to undo what has been done so far on the migration assistant as well as unlock the Mac Air.  How do I do this?

    Try recovery mode.

  • A fix for a blurry external monitor for the mac air 11

    http://gizmodo.com/5938452/a-trick-to-make-using-an-external-monitor-with-your-m acbook-way-better
After a frustrating evening with a blurry external monitor I found the fix at link above. Very happy!

First, what you said is contradictory. You say "can't get a video signal", then say"the Mac wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible". "No video signal" means an absolutely black, blank screen. It sounds like you have plenty of signal.
I am supposing what you are seeing is actually a blank desktop, which is to be expected if your settings are such that you are extending the desktop, instead of mirroring it.
Within the preference panes is a setting that allows you to change this. Open System Preferences, click Displays, and then click Arrangement. You will see that you are extending the desktop. Change that setting.

  • I can't decide on the mac air or MacBook

I can't decide on buying a mac air or a MacBook?

The newest macbook Pro is essentially a larger macbook Air with Retina display and options for speed in increasing prices up to an independent graphics and quad core processor.
both Air and new Pro now have PCIe SSD and permanent RAM.
The Air is the lightweight portable form factor, fast to boot and shut down, but with longer battery life than any of the macbook pro in 13"
Now the new macbook Pro and macbook Air are extremely close in form factor and nature.
    both have 802ac wifi
both have permanent RAM, no superdrive
both are slim profiles and SSD
The only real differences now between Air and Pro....are (in the most expensive Pros) faster processors and quadcore processors and top end model autonomous graphics and the Pro has HDMI output.....and of course the retina display
both are now "very good for travel"
Other than features the form factor of the Air and Pro are VERY close now,....so now its merely a matter of features and price more than anything.
You need an external HD regardless of what you get for backups etc.   Drop into an Apple store and handle both and make your choice based on features, such as Retina or non-retina, .... both at a distance now look like the same computer.
The Pro weighs more, ....but nowhere near what it used to just a month ago on the oldermacbook Pros
The NEW macbook Pro is a different creature entirely than the older macbook Pro, .....the new Pro is thicker than the Air, but id frankly call the NEWEST Pro a "macbook Air with Retina display" , or
Maybe a “macbook Air PRO with Retina display”
Instead of Air VS Pro now,.....its really a smooth transition from Air to pro without comparing say, 2 different creatures, now its like contrasting a horse from a race horse.
Either one in 8gig of RAM (preferably)... the 4gig upgrade costs very little,  the I7 you will notice only 15% faster on heavy applications over the I5, and NOTHING on most APPS.....I5 has longer battery life.
As you see below, the non-Retina 13" AIR is 82% of the Macbook with Retina display in resolution
there is no magical number of pixels per inch that automatically equates to Retina quality.

A huge internal SSD isnt a game changer for anything, you need an external HD anyway
what you WONT READ on Apple.com etc. is that the larger SSD  are MUCH FASTER due to SSD density

  • What's the best app for a reader type program on the mac air

looking to use my mac air to read ebooks - any suggestions to the best type application for that
    Thanks

That would depend on the source of the ebooks you're trying to read. If the ebooks have any kind of DRM, you would need to use the appropriate app (e.g. the Kindle app for ebooks purchased from Amazon). I actually like the Kindle app generally.

  • HT3775 my video was recorded on my iPad and played on the Mac Air before it was sent in an e-mail. Why won't it now play on the Mac Air from my sent box? I wanted to check it was sent okay and was unable to open it on the same computer that sent it -  Hel

My Mac Air won't open a video from my sent box when it was sent from the Mac and recorded on my iPad. It says the format is not supported. Does anyone know why or understand this?

i can't open my Mac-air notebook, when power on ,the screen is blank with a question mark?

To open the MacBook Air, you need to get your fingers on the front edge between the lid and the bottom and gently lift the lid.
