  • What is better for home movie editing, ipad or mac book?

i have a panasonic hdc-sd90 camcorder and my current laptop is woefully underpowered to run any of the hd editing software so i have been thinking of an upgrade and this seems to be a good reason to do so.  I also am self employed and require software that i can do basic invoicing on a spreadsheet.  I like the idea of portablilty so the ipad is appealing but i don't know if it is powerful enough to enable me to edit my home movies adequately, plus the exporting issues that seem to come with the ipad (although i have heard there are apps you can get that help with this and printing documents as well from the ipad would be an advantage)  If the new ipad is not able to edit the home movies then what mac book would be best for my needs?
i am relatively new to apples products and growing gradually more frustrated with windows based pc's as time goes on, hence the temptation to switch to apple.

Light weight basic needs, power miser - MacBook Air (glossy screens)
Semi-light weight basic needs, more storage, DVD drive, hot machine (no 3D gaming) - 13" MacBook Pro (glossy screens)
Bit heavier, pro needs, 3D gaming, cool machine, power hungry, - 15" MacBook Pro  (anti-glare screen option, recommended)
Same as above, larger screen for HD video, cool machine,  power hungry, 17" MacBook Pro (anti-glare screen option, recommended)

  • Transferring home movie from iPad

How do I move home videos from one iPad to another or to my Mac computer?

  • Missing home movies from ipad and mac

Hi, I recorded several videos on my ipad 3, I synced it with my mac and everyone is gone, I never deleted anything.  They never show up in itunes list and they are gone from my ipad any help please.

    Moreover, you could try Handbrake.
Handbrake is a software that converts DVD to any format you specify, and it does rely on the popular ffmpeg Unix program. (In fact, I bet most conversion software do rely on ffmpeg...).
I garantee Handbrake is not another of those programs, commonly called thing like DVD2iPod (I don't mean to harm this software if it does really exist) or DVDRIPMAGIX, or well... you know.
So, in Handbrake, there's a list of presets from which you can choose to convert the video to. You should perhaps leave it to Normal (which will encode it to a .mp4 movie, thus rendering you with a far lesser file than 25GB).
Of course, the 25GB you were prompted is an uncompressed file, like DV format is. It is used for editing from uncompressed source, but you are coming from a DVD, which is in the base, not an uncompressed source as far as I know. Thus explaining why the movie on the DVD is not 25GB.
I hope all this will be useful to you!

  • Where are my transfered home movies on iPAD?

I transfered 3 movies to my iPAD by dropping them into the iPAD icon that appeared on my iTunes sidebar on my MacBook Pro. It dhowed they had downloaded. But Now I cannot find them on the iPAD. Help please. I cannot intuitively find the place they have been transferred to. Everything seems to favor purchased and there is not library navigation. Thanks.

You are a star! They were sitting pretty in the video app (I was fixed on iTunes to iTunes logic). Thank you so very much. And to get the answer before throwing the **** thing across the room; I wish there were a third level of the legend: "made my day" or "sheer gratifying brilliance". Thanks and cheers. Jeremy

  • How do I transfer a home movie to videos on my ipad?

There's obviously a simple answer to my problem, but I can't seem to find it. I made a home movie on my mac. I shared it with iTunes. I then looked for it in videos on my ipad. No sign of it. I found it among the photos and videos in the camera section. How to I get this home movie into my videos. Homesharing is on, but clearly hasn't solved the problem. Do I have to sync my ipad with itunes on my mac? Seems a bit complicated for such a simple task. After all, I can email it to my family without a problem. Anyone tell me what I'm missing?

Have you tried clicking the share icon when it is selected (the box with and arrow at the top) to see if you get an option to "open in..." and then select videos app.
I have not done this so not sure it will work but an idea to try.

  • HT201317 My husband bought an Ipad 3.  He gave me his Ipad 2.  How do we get home movies from the 2 to the 3?  I want to restore the 2 to the factory settings, but not lose these movies.

My husband bought an Ipad 3.  He gave me his Ipad 2.  How do we get the home movies from the 2 to the 3?  I would like to restore the 2 to factory settings.  As I understand, from reading "help", videos are NOT in the Photo Stream.

1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

  • Using iPad to AirPlay home movies/pictures from a media server/external HD

I'm trying to access all my home movies and pictures from a media server or external HD. I want use my iPad as the interface and use AirPlay to display them on my tv. One of my key requirements is that the interface allow the movies and pictures to be organized into albums like iPhoto. They need to be together instead of a folder for photos and a photo for videos. I would also like to have a favorites album that is essentially shortcuts to photos and videos in my other albums, just like iPhoto. Any ideas?
FYI...I'm using a local storage device so I don't have to worry too much about network latencies and bandwidth. I also prefer not to have a full-fledged computer running all the time just to serve stored media. Thereforey preference is to use a media server instead of an external HD (although I would be open to that if airport extreme would be part of the solution.)

  • How do I get a home movie onto my ipad?

I have used iTunes to convert a home movie to a mp4a file. How do I get it onto my iPad? I have tried dragging it. Does not work.

Fire up I photo on the Mac.  Plug the pad in.  ( make sure you are not automatically syncing to I tunes.  ). On the left pane in I photo the pad will show up as a device.  Click on it and it should show all new pictures on the pad.  Select your video and at the top, click import selected.

  • How do I get my home movies and avi files to play on my ipad 3?

How do I get my home movies and avi files to play on my ipad 3?

    1) Download a third party player on the iPad, such as avplayerhd or cinexplayer. Search app store for AVI and read some reviews.
    2) Convert the files in a program such as handbrake, mpegstreamclip on the pc and import them.
    3) Download air video from the app store, install the server software on the pc and stream away.
    Take your pick.

  • Downloading home movies on to iPad...

I have a home movie that I would like to download from my iMac to the iPad in HD. Is this possible? I read that the video has to be 720p@30 frames/sec in H.264 format. I have no problem converting it to this, but can I watch this video afterwards on the iPad, and what application will it run from (iTunes, Movies folder, etc...)?
If so, how do you download the video from your Mac to the iPad?

    Hi Rory!
Depending on the program you used to convert the movie, there may be an option to share it with iTunes. Do that, then connect your iPad and synch it over. If your program does not have a sharing option, right click on it and select the option to open it in iTunes. You should be good to go. Hope this helps!

  • Does ipad support my home movies or slideshows

I made a sideshow with iPhoto. I exported it now it is mov format. I tried to sync my MacBook with the sideshow and a couple of other home movies I made. It looked like it synced but I can't find where they are. Plus my slides how didn't even show up to sync.
I love my iPad, but the lack of video and other limitations is getting to me.
    Thanks for the help.
    Vicki

Have you checked in the Video app? Usually I think you need mp4 files rather than mov though.

  • I had my home movies put on a DVD, they have a bup extension, can they be transferred into itunes and play on my Ipad?

I had my old 8mm home movies transferred to dvd's, they have a .bup extension, is it possible to download them into itunes and play them on my ipad2

    Yes. Is the short answer.
You can directly connect the speaker out port of the Mac mini to an input on the AV Receiver which then feeds your speakers. This would be an audio only solution. If you use a TOS-Link connection this will be a pure digital connection ensuring the best quality (important for audiophiles).
You can if you wish connect the video from the Mac mini to the AV Receiver, and if you have a Mac mini with HDMI or a Mini Displayport you can run the audio and video via a single cable. (Older models would use two cables, the aforementioned TOS-Link pus a DVI to HDMI cable.)
If you do connect the video output from the Mac to the AV Receiver you can then display this on your TV, and have as one possibility iTunes displayed with perhaps one of the iTunes visualisers playing along with the music. Another possibility would be to use FrontRow on the Mac.
A different approach would be to have the Mac mini stream over a network to a device e.g. the Sonos Zoneplayer which is then connected to the AV Receiver. An AirPort Express is also able to do this.

  • Itunes 12 can't import shared home movie to iTunes library

HI. I am trying to import, or add to my desktop iTunes library, a shared home movie. I have file sharing turned on with both my laptop and desktop. I can see, from my desktop, the shared home movies, and I can even play them, but I cannot find an option to import them into the desktop library. I use my desktop to sync my iPad and ultimately I want to add the movies to my iPad. How do I import a shared home movie from my laptop to desktop, not just see it and play it from sharing?

Join the crowd. If you search this and other forums on the web, you'll find that Home Sharing has limited functionality on PC and Mixed PC-Mac networks. It works fine, Mac to Mac, it appears, but PC's seem unable to talk to Macs or one another on many, many, many people's home shared networks. I hope that Apple finds a way to improve this aspect of iTunes or at least expands its troubleshooting recommendations in the support database.
