HD in Encore CS4

I have followed Jeff's HD2SD tutorial and have had the best results buring raw footage (720p) to SDS DVD. Still, I can't believe there is such a drop off in quality. As a test I imported about 1 hour (8 clips) directly into Encore CS4 from my hard drive and burned a SD DVD. I couldn't believe it actually worked. The footage was awesome!! Almost HD quality. I thought that was it!! However, 6 tries since have resulted in error "encode failed". Anyone have any ideas why I was able to do this once but not again?
Thanks, Kevin

50 min to 1:20 max.  I've also experimented with 5 min clips and "encode failure". Encore seems to reduce the size of the footage without a problem. After I put the blank in and go to build it says 3 /3.5 gigs of 4.7g disc it never tells me it's over disc capacity and like I said it worked great, once!!

  • Disc image file exported from Encore CS4 won't work

    Hello,
I have a problem concerning the export of a disc image file in Encore CS4. I recently upgraded to CS4 and wanted to continue my project which I started editing with CS3. While working with CS3 I already did image files from this project for burning and testing the DVD. Back then it worked with no problems.
However, since using the CS4 version Encore does the image without any problem, but I can't use the image file in any way afterwards. I mounted it with Daemon Tools as I did before, but the DVD won't play in any software DVD player I have installed (Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, Nero Showtime) nor can I access the file structure over a file manager. Nevertheless NeroInfoTool and ImgBurn say there is a DVD in the virtual drive. Then I exported the DVD project into a folder and now I can see the files in the file manger but again no player will play it.
Has anyone experienced this before and is able to help? It would be very appreciated since I don't want to downgrade back to CS3 :-)
It's Encore CS4, Version 4.0.1.048 on a 2,8 GHz HT CPU, 2 GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 6800 UT, lots of HDD space, XP + SP3.
    Thank you,
    Chris...

    Hey,
thank you both. As I said no player accepts the project exported to a folder. It doesn't matter if I point the player to the video_ts.ifo or just the folder - it won't play. As a consequence I re-installed Encore CS3 in which exporting worked fine and guess what - the exported image and folder output doesn't work either. Since it worked before in CS3 it comes down to the conclusion that either I did some editing to the project that screwed the project or Encore CS4 did. Checking for mistakes in the project and previewing in inside CS4 everything seems fine. So might it be CS4 that ****** up the project file??? I mean it's full of strange bugs so it could easily be that. I even updated my Daemon Tools yesterday and it won't make a difference.
Or could it be something else I haven't considered yet? Any ideas? I just don't want to build the whole project again which might not even work if it's some other error. This is a desperate call for help
    Thanks,
    Chris...

  • "File not found" error when I try to render an animated menu (on mac) Encore CS4

I'm making a dvd with at least 2 animated menus. It means that I have a 1 movie in the background of each menu. Over my background, I have 3 thumbnail buttons which contain a small piece of movie animated movie too. When I try to to view my menus, in order to see the animation in the background and in the thumbnails I need to render the animation through File - Render - Motion menus.
The problem is that it works for the first menu but then when I continue my navigation to the second menu that has animation in background and thumbnails too, if I choose Render Motion menus, after 3/4 of the rendering it says "file not found" even if all the files are well in place in their folders.
Does anyone would have an idea of how to resolve this stupid problem that prevents me to burn my project on a DVD since the same errors will appear during the burning process (I use a mac with Encore CS4). Is it a bug? What are the solutions? Thanks for answering.
    Steven.

    SteveDVD,
The use of the .WMV was because that was part of the Library .EM template. I would not anticipate problems with other formats, so long as they are supported and the same for all of your Menus in the Project.
If you have done several Motion Menu Renderings, you might want to clear Encore's Media Cache, just in case it is still referencing previous Render files.
And yes, the re-Importation should yield the same result as Linking/re-Linking.
Unfortunately, I do not have CS4, so I can't test this for you. There do seem to be a few real Bugs in the various CS4 programs, and maybe this is one?
That "File Not Found" rings a bell in my feeble brain. Seems that there was a post on that, but I do not remember it being related to Motion Menus. Maybe search will yield something of use.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Encore CS4 asset import creates black images

    Running Encore CS4 on Win 7 32-bit;   4GB RAM,  Radeon 7750 graphics
If I do an Import of assets, namely a bunch of standard, out of camera jpegs, about 2.5-4MB in size, then CS4 imports them but anywhere from 10-100% of them will just be black images.
Only solution I've found is to clear out the bad ones, save, close project, re-open project, re-import.  Sometimes you can only import them one at a time without going through a close/open project step.  Just clearing the image and trying to re-import without  closing the project never works.
Worse - after re-opneing the project, sometimes some of the 'good' images have gone black and have to be re-imported.
Never had this problem with Encore 2.0.
Not having this problem with Encore CS3, but a CS3 project opened in CS4 also displays a bunch of black images which were OK in CS3.
    So 2 questions
    - anybody seen CS4 being so stupid as this? and have a real fix? (as it took me 4 hours to add 60 images yesterday, which is ridiculous)
    -  given CS3 seems to work (and opens projects much faster), is ther any downside to staying on CS3?

  • Windows 8 Encore CS4 Blu-ray BSOD

I'm getting a BSOD in Encore CS4 when I try to build a blu-ray project. I have an HP laptop with an LG USB blu-ray burner. When I click build, even to build just an image, and then change from "DVD" to "Blu-Ray", there is a hang then a BSOD. My crashdump indicates that pxhlpa64.sys is the culprit.
This seems to be relevant, BUT the solution is to upgrade CS6 to new patch:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4672190
I'm up-to-date in CS4, so that doesn't help. However, it sounds related and I'm hoping that my copy of CS4 Production Premium is still supported.
My version of pxhlpa64.sys is 3.0.78.0. WU can't find any updates as far as I can tell. I have not installed any drivers for my LG BE12LU38 Super Multi Blue, but it seems to be recognized and there are no updates via WU.

For CS4 you must update the Roxio component http://forums.adobe.com/thread/400484
More on Encore and Roxio http://forums.adobe.com/thread/528582 or direct to
    http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/content/kb/General%20Information/000070GN&PARAMS
Right click the program icon and select Run as Administrator, which is NOT the same thing as running the computer with the Administrator account, and which fixes several "odd" problems... To create a two layer DVD (or a BluRay?), you MUST have Encore set to use the Run as Administrator option
    Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395
Also, for CS4, right click the program icon and see if Win8 has the same WinXP compatibility mode that is available in Win7
As far as support outside of this user to user group... I seriously doubt that Adobe will provide any help for a program that is 3 versions old, and which was written before Win8 was more than a Microsoft dream

  • Encore CS4 Missing Frames/Stops Starts  and Blue Screen Crashes During Playback

I'm opening Premiere Pro CS4 with the default presets of HDV Capture, HDV 1080i30 software only mode. I'm capturing from my Canon HV20 using firewire HDV out 1440 x 1080. All goes well during the editing process but when I Dynamic Link and playback in Encore CS4 I observe dropped frames or stop and starts in Encore timeline sequence. At times I may even crash Encore with a Blue Screen. While still running Encore I can go back to Premiere Pro and play the timeline sequence with no issues. I will mention that I have the Matrox RT.X2 installed. But when starting a project I'm doing software only and disabling RT.X2 hardware playback. If I remove all effects in the timeline sequence and then Dynamic link to Encore the playback is normal with no effects. I did exported the Premiere Pro CS4 project using Adobe Media Encoder CS4 with a setting of MPEG 2 Blu-ray 1440 x 1080i 29.97 High Quality. I than import this MPEG2 back into Adobe Encore CS4 and it plays without dropping frames or hang-ups.

    Try to remember this:
Encore "Tries" to playback from premiere pro.  If you have a full set of previews available, it will play those, but you are probably seeing a lot of dropped frames and choppy video if your previews in premiere are set pretty low.  What you can do to combat this--in my experience--is export your video from premiere into a whole file in full format (in a non-lossy format with full frames, and in it's proxy equivalent;  I use Prores LT for many projects, and export that as a final output from premiere), then have that encode in an h.264 format (which will maximize smooth motion and quality playback).  Now... ...In your encore project, you should be outside of your original formats and in the intermediary that encore will recognize, so you should have it "Locate transcoded file".  Once you have done so, it will playback that movie in the preview.  I've done it.  With CS6 and 4gb ram with a vidcard at 256mb and a core2duo 2.16ghz, it plays fine.  With CS4 the encoding takes a while, and if you go to dvd, even longer for compression to work properly.  I use Compressor to output AVCHD .264 stream and an AC3 file.  When I locate the transcode for BD, I locate the .264 file first, then I get asked for the AC3 file.  This allows me to import them both, and have Encore encode them into the transport stream without transcoding.  I use Distributed processing to get the job done quickly, as I have minimal access to several computers and have connected them by that method for a Render Farming setup.  It works well.  With a hardware based device playing back your files, you won't see the same performance in Encore.  It has to make two hops already to get to your video, and adding a third (goes from encore to Premiere, then to codec, then plays normally;  third step is to external hardware, which eats up processing like crazy when it has to come all the way back to an encoding output to screen through encore, adding more steps for the system along the way) really can slow down the performance in Encore.  IF you take the Steps out by encoding a finished playback stream, Encore will handle it quickly with it's own processing.  It really does work well.  If you don't like it, make your changes in Premiere, then re-encode with your hardware and make an h.264 file for encore again.  You can use AME, but you'll always get standard Blu-ray (old file-stream format; lesser res and quality).  You can use Compressor to make AVCHD which allows for 264 output that is PSF or progressive that is interpreted as simultaneous fields (fake interlace), or even solid progressive formatting for AVCHD compatible players, and you can render-farm it to speed up the encoding process.

  • Premiere and Encore CS4 crashes and issues on Toshiba Laptop

I have a Toshiba Qosmino Laptop, 4 GB ram, Windows XP Sev pac 3, Nvida Gforce 7300 video. new 7500 RPM Hard drive
The two programs that crash all the time are Premiere and Encore CS4
Premiere will start some times and sometimes not. I've tried a new projects, importing a CS3 project seems to make no difference. Takes approx 2-3 minuites to load. Click on a imported video clip or timeline and crash.
Encore crashes "EVERYTIME"... tried to import from Premiere into Encore.. when the timeline is clicked in Encore it crashes everytime. Tried a new project in Encore same problem. Started Encore alone and same problem... first click and crash.
I'm not getting a blue screen just the Adobe crash report screen asking me to send a report... have done that many times.
    Things that I have tried:
Had CS3 (BTY it ran fine)
Uninstalled CS3 and uninstalled CS4. Reinstalled CS4 same problems.
    Defrag hard drive....
    Reinstall CS4
Updated video drivers to latest version
    Reloaded older video drivers
Did MSCONFIG and stropped all unneeded processes
All the rest of the CS4 programs open and run fine.
    Any help is appreciated!!

Sounds like a problematic video driver or codec issue. You need to update all your drivers and try again. Also get rid of any unnecessary codecs. Try opening files in various formats and see if the same happens. Also you should search the KnowledgeBase, it contains a lot of information about this kind of problem.
If all fails, call Adobe Tech Support...

  • Received trascode loading error message when I tried to save a project in Encore CS4`

I have Encore CS4 operating on Windows 8 64 bit.  I tried to save a project and received the following message: Error loading transcode preset Internal/Blu-ray NTSC SD MPEG-2.  The project is to be a DVD not BLU-ray.  I opened the original project as administrator....help
    Thanks,
    Bryan

Yes, it let me create a project.  The error came when I tried to save...not save as...also came when I went to build the DVD.  It always saves before it begins to build and the same error message came up again.  It is a very simple DVD...no menus....just a plug and play.  It is a thearter performance that was shot and then edited in Pro and opening titles and credits added.  The thought is that the DVD would be put into the player and the timeline begins to play from the opening titles to the end credits...nothing fancy......

  • Encore CS4 suddenly crashing on startup

I have been using Adobe Production Premium CS4 for several months now with mostly no problems... crash here and there but nothing major. While using Encore to author a Blu-Ray disc, the software crashed when I transitioned from Photoshop back to Encore. I was editing a menu in Photoshop like I have done millions of times before, with minimal crashes. I shutdown and walked away for the day. When I came back the next day and started Encore it immediately gave me a crash report screen, and has given me a crash report screen every time since, it does not even make it to the splash screen. I have tried the OpenGL solution, no good. Tried the Version Cue startup solution, no good. Latest video drivers, audio drivers, etc, etc. Tried the user settings folder removal solution, no good. Even tried re-installing the entire suite, no good.
This makes no sense to me. I have successfully used Encore CS4 to master close to 20 DVDs since the release. There were no changes to the system from one day to the next. Any ideas?

Did this by any chance start to happen after updating via the Adobe Updater to 4.0.1? This can - and does unless turned firmly off in preferences - run in the background.

  • Encore CS4 Start-Up Problem

    Hi,
When I try to open Encore CS4, either by creating a brand new project, or by using dynamic linking to bring in a short sequence from Primiere Pro, I get about 80% through the progress bar labeled "preparing transcoder settings" when I get the following error messasge, and the application crashes:
    Adobe Encore Debug Event
Adobe Encore has encountered an error:
    [..\..\src\AMEPresetProber.cpp - 258]
As best I can make out from the crash report, Encore is trying to run dvacore.dll when the crash occurs, although I'm not absolutely positive about this (I'm basing this on the program counter address where the exception_breakpoint occurs ; this address fell within the range populated by dvacore.dll if I am reading the crash file properly).
I'm assuming the error message is telling me that a routine in the C++ source file AMEPresetProber.cpp was running at the time of failure.  I'm further assuming from the name of the file that Encore was looking through a list of Adobe Media Encoder presets when the problem occurred.  But of course, without access to the source code, there is no way to see what the program was doing, or what error code 258 means.
If anyone has seen this problem, and has a suggestion on how to fix it, I would appreciate your input.
As an FYI, I did carefully read a long thread about Encore CS4 crashes, and tried several of the fixes there -- Updating my nvidia card drivers, installing the "roxio" px patch, updating QuickTime, and erasing Encore's preference files.  I also checked Adobe's web site to see if there were any updates for Encore CS4 (I am running 4.0.1.048), but when I tried installing the only update available, I was told that it was older than the version I currently had loaded.  At this point, short of reloading the entire CS4 suite, I'm out of ideas of what to try next.
I'm also wondering if there is something I could change with Media Encoder's settings that might help, since the problem seems to occur when Encore is looking over AME's presets.
Thanks in advance for your input.

    P.S.  I'm running Vista Ultimate, service pack 2 on a dual-core 2.4G 6600 machine with 3GB of RAM.

    Hi Stan,
    Thanks for responding.
Truth be told, I got so focused on the Encore problem, it didn't occur to me to see whether Media Encoder was still functioning properly on my machine.
At any rate, I did byte the bullet, and re-install Encore, and the problem in question went away.  Interestingly enough, when you opt to re-install Encore, CS4 automatically re-installs Media Encoder as well, so I guess the two programs are pretty tightly joined at the hip.  Not surprising, perhaps, since I suspect that Encore is in some ways just a special case of Media Encoder, at least as far as the transcoding is concerned.
Of course, once I got Encore up and running, I tried to bring over a very, very small sequence from Premiere Pro and build it, and Encore crashed again (In PproHeadless.exe call to  ImageRender.dll).  Frustrating, since as a newbie all I'm trying to do is understand how the sequence settings I'm using in Premiere translate into final DVD output.  The project I am working on involves a mixture of still images and short video clips culled from many sources in many formats, and my first renders in Premiere yielded lots of letterboxing (I'm learning the hard way about pixel aspect ratios and the like).  As such, I figured before I built too many sequeneces, I should find a set of settings and work procedures that yield good results.
I used dynamic linking to bring over my sequence from Premiere, and I'm thinking that perhaps having both Encore and Premiere open at the same time requires too many resources on my limited system.  Time to go figure out other options for moving sequences from Premiere over to Encore to see if that is in fact the issue.

  • Encore CS4 I received this error message: PrimoBurnerSDK -unkown error.

Under the Windows 7 Ultra OS, when I loaded Premiere Pro CS4, I received the following error message and thereafter when I tried to write a DVD with Encore CS4 I received this error message: PrimoBurnerSDK -unkown error.
I know the Burner is working properly because it is able to burn DVDs with Adobe Premiere Elements 9.
The Premiere Pro CS4package worked alright under the Window Vista OS.

As a test, tell Encore to create an ISO on your hard drive, then use the free http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to write to disc
If that works, the problem is some other software that is "hijacking" your burner so Encore can't properly "talk" to it to burn

  • Premiere CS4 to Encore CS4 Export  Quality Problems

I recently purchased a non-linear editing machine with an RTX2 Matrox Card and CS4 Professional. After six or seven projects, I finally noticed that all my imported .avi files exported through Adobe Media Encoder and burned through Encore CS4 are not as crisp, sharp, or look like the original high quality SD footage after the DVD is burned like it always used to look in CS2. ( jumped from CS2 to CS4)
These DVDs were of plays, football, and basketball games. It seems that when the camera shoots a close up, the video looks fine but after you shoot from a distance, there is a considerable difference in the footage. ( alomost blurry) I just caught this and nobody has complained but I watched one of my older DVDs I produced with CS2 and it had no quality loss whatsoever. There is a night and day difference
For the sequences, I am using Matrox SD, NTSC, Standard, 720 x 486  and capturing with firewire through the Matrox card. The raw footage is beautiful. The Video Preview Option is NTSC Standard and the Codec is NTSC Matrox DV/DV Cam.
I can playback a timeline from the Matrox card and burn directly to a DVD burner and the footage is perfect, but when I export, I have chosen Microsoft .avi file, Matrox DV/DV Cam/ MPEG2, and MPEG2DVD.
I have even changed the sequences codec to Matrox MPEG-2 I-Frame and tried exporting using that out of Adobe Media Encoder and am getting the same results.
None of my customers have complained yet, but I definitely do not want to continue producing almost blurry DVDs.
I am using Adobe Premiere CS4 Version 4.1.0 and Encore CS4 Version 4.0.1.048 and Matrox Version 4.1.0.23
Can this problem be related to and eliminated by updating my CS4 Production Suite and my Matrox Software.
I was wondering if anyone had experienced this same issue and what solution they came up with or if anyone knew if the updates would correct this important issue. I just filmed a lengthy play that I have to author through Encore CS4 and I cannot release any more of my productions until this problem is solved. This is a big dollar production and I need some assistance on this matter as soon as possible. Thanks  Jimi White

Thanks for taking the time to help me out. I just purchased my non-linear with CS4 Production Suite and the Matrox RTX2. I have several projects that I am working on right now and I was advised by Adobe, Matrox, and my non-linear vendor, 1 Beyond, to finish those projects before performing updates.
I also found out that If I export using the MPEG2  8Mbps, it cleared up the video dramatically. We had to go through a number of export presets in order to find out what worked best in Encore. I am going to try to finish the project now and will advise on the results.
This is a basketball highlight DVD and that's when I noticed the problem. My other productions were photos to music, and non sporting events and I didn't notice any problems with those DVDs ( they actually looked decent. Worst part about it was, I finished the project once and burned 18 DVDs, and then reviewed one of them and found the problem. I have to start over and just eat the DVDs printed and all.
Thanks again, it was nice of you to get back to me.
    Jimi

  • Change Background in Menu Creation  Encore CS4 and Photoshop

I am creating a menu using Encore and Photoshop. I Used the Encore Libray to create a blank background and also created a series of buttons adusting them in Photoshop CS4. However, when I try to change the background with a new jpg or psd file I open the picture in Photoshop but not as the new background layer  I am trying to achieve. Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?

    Dear Bill,
Thank you for your prompt reply. However, I don't think I am explaining my problem correctly so if you have the patience I am sending you this little "Jing" movie which will show you my problem

Subject: Change Background in Menu Creation  Encore CS4 and Photoshop
There should be no problem when adding the image of your choice, with Edit in Photoshop.
When you choose Edit in Photoshop, several things happen:
1.) a TMP PSD for that Menu is created.
2.) links are created between En and PS
3.) PS is launched, and that TMP PSD is then Opened in PS.
When one has edited that TMP PSD in PS, they must do a Save to allow those links back to En*.
If you are doing a Save_As, or Save_As_a_Copy, those links will NOT be followed, and the Menu will NOT update in En.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
I have encountered some instances, where a single Save does not follow those links. With experimentation, I have found that 3 Saves (Ctrl+S) will force those links to be followed, and the Menu updated in En. Not sure why this happens sometimes, but 3 seems to be the "magic number," at least for me.

  • Blu-ray says capacity too big when burning DVD Rom Folder Encore CS4

I have tried 3 times now to burn a Blu-ray Image file with a DVD rom Content Folder. The Blu-ray Image size is 45.90gb and the content folder is 1.6gb. The disk is a Sony DL 50gb Blu-ray. I have not tried to burn direct to disk because cost of Blu-rays. I am using Encore CS4. Is it that you cannot make an image file with DVD-rom for DL Blu-rays. Is there a number preset by Adobe for image file size for DL Blu-ray. Please help

45.90 GB on your hard drive and 1.6 GB on your hard drive add up to 47.60 GB.
In computer GB, (47.60 x 2^30) that's over 51 billion bytes. Sony and other blank media manufacturers report the capacity of their blank discs in normal GB (50 x 10^9), or 50 billion bytes.
Your project is too big to fit on the blank media that you have.

  • Blu-ray Motion Menus in Encore CS4

Okay. Just upgraded to Encore CS4 from CS3. Few nice changes.
Have crashed about 10 times (in one hour) doing simple things like, assigning folders, playing video, adding menus. Can anyone say maintenance release???
    Here's a question...
WHY CAN'T I SEE THE VIDEO I HAVE ASSIGNED TO A MENU WHEN I SIMULATE?
This was working in CS3 now it's NOT in CS4. Tried on two different machines, one with ATI card an the other with nVidia!
    ADOBE... are you there???

That's right. CS4 simply behaves different to CS3!
I have never had to render out a menu to preview it. We only create motion menus for Blu-ray and only use highlight layers from Photoshop. In CS3, when you right clicked on a menu in Encore and clicked "simulate from here", you would see your highlight layers over the video immediately.
NOW, with CS4, you must render out the menu after clicking "simulate from here" to see it. VERY annoying but I'm sure Adobe did this for a good reason.
Pop-up menus I am glad to report actually work! We haven't figured out how to create motion pop-up menus yet but I suspect this is not available yet in Encore.
If anyone knows any differently, I'd love to hear it.
What's fixed and I'm SO GLAD is that during simulation, the SKIP FORWARD chapter button WORKS!!! In CS3, you had to pause the video and then could skip forward. Now, like any other normal program, while the video is playing, you can skip forward.
I would thank Adobe for fixing this but, let's face it, this just should have worked in CS3!
    Regards,
    Darren
