Hi there and welcome
If your computer is making a strange noise, it would be best to take it to an Apple Service Provider or Retail Store.
Unfortunately there is not much that you can do yourself, without voiding the warranty.
Good luck

  • Portege R830-10V - DVD drive makes strange sounds

    Hi all,
I just bought this machine and registered the following issue:
If I put in a DVD the notebook starts to buzz very loud. This sound disappears if I put a finger on the drive. Furthermore the DVD drive starts to chatter if I press keys above the drive like the arrow keys. That bothers me very much.
I called the support of Toshiba and they said they can pick the notebook up. But it is possible that this service creates costs because maybe this problem is within the specification.
Do you have any ideas? What can I do?
    Best regards
    Denis

I tried it with several DVDs. It usualy happens with video DVDs but also with the Microsoft Windows 7 DVD for example. Self burned DVDs don't make that noise but they also don't move that fast. But anyway I can hear the drive when I press the arrow keys. And I'm blind so I use this keys a lot.
It sounds like the drive isn't fixed properly so I'll send the notebook back and I hope they kan do something. I think putting something under the drive or placing it a little bit higher should solve it but of cause I don't want to do something by myself.

  • Harddisk makes strange sounds, as if head is slipping

    Hello,
My mac has been making ticking noises 6 months after I bought it. After reading the forums, it seemed that that isn't a terminal problem, and I chose not to send it in for repairs. However, every once in a while, what I assume to be the hard drive makes some sort of fluttering noise. The mac is still responsive, but it seems as if the head is slipping on the harddisk.
Any ideas what this could be?

like very very soft, very regular ping pong balls yes. I read on this forum that this model has some problems with the harddrive not being attached properly, and that the ticking was a result of this, and not an indication of hard drive failure.
The fluttering has me worried more. At first it sounded like a bug trapped in the casing, but it has been going on for too long for that to be the case.

  • IPOD Won't Turn On & Makes Strange Sounds

I'm guessing that its broken beyond repair but just incase anybody can help...
The Ipod will not turn on and keeps making the same noises again and again as if its trying to access the hard disk and failing, it then comes up with the unwell Ipod.
I have tried resetting it which does not work, I can't get into it to get to the disk so I'm stuck for ideas.
    Any help is appreciated
    Cheers
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4)

It is pretty easy.I called the customers service for the questions. An officer asked me:"Have you ever put some songs into your Ipod?" "Have you ever safely remove youe Ipod form your computer?" I suddenly realized I sometimes did not remove it safely.
I think you may meet the same problem. What you can do now is to push both the "Wheel" and "Menu",and keep pushing for 6-8 seconds. It will restart, and you will see an apple in the middle of the screen.
If you have any question, you can e-mail me:[email protected]

  • IPod frozen - cannot restart - makes strange noises whilst trying to charge

    my iPod is dying!
the iPod froze while i was listening to my tracks and i tried to restart it (as i've done it before) and nothing happened. Then i noticed the icon that indicates that the battery is totally drained and i have to charge the ipod at least for 30mins before iTunes will recognize it again.
Ive charged it now much longer then 30mins, that icon has disappeared as soon as i connected the ipod to my charger and there is the black screen with the white apple, the ipod did get warm, still makes strange sounds as if it restarts or something and the screen goes grey and empty back to black screen with white apple. it wont stop doing it.
What is wrong with it???? Cant use public transport anymore without my ipod pls help, am desperate!

thanks - tried but unfortunately didn't help. At the moment, when i try to charge it i get the battery sign for a little while, then the ipod restarts again. over and over again. iTunes still won't recognize my iPod.
I've called technical support ("Hello, how's your iPod today? - well, what ya think when i call you guys???) and will go to the iPod store tomorrow in case they might be able to restore my iPod and recover the tracks that Ive got on it...fingers crossed.

  • IPod stops syncing about 20/50gbs in, and makes unhealthy sounds.

Well, here's the story. I'm sorry in advance that it's such a huge post.
I haven't used my iPod classic for about 8 or so months now, and it's just been chillin in my drawer, turned off. Yesterday, I decided to plug it in to update it with all of the new music it's missed over the past 8 months. Once I plugged it in it froze for a bit, and iTunes said something was wrong with it, so it needed to be restored. Now, you should know, I've had this iPod since December 31, 2007. I have kept it in pristine condition, no scratches, marks, it basically looks brand new, and I've never dropped it.
So on to my actual issue: Once I started syncing the music, it basically got to approximately the 2500th track, and stopped syncing. When I would plug it in to sync the rest, iTunes would freeze, and I couldn't do anything until I just unplugged the iPod. Once I unplug the iPod, iTunes tells me that I don't have enough priviledges to access the disk, or something along those lines. Well, the issue was worse before, because before during this started my iPod just wouldn't respond and my system would hang and iTunes wouldn't force quit even though it said it did.
Now I restored it under Windows, and put it in manual mode, went to my Mac and same thing happens except this time..... all of my music that got on the iPod is now displayed as OTHER and it doesn't show up on the iPod. I think, maybe thats just a OS issue, since its restored under windows now. I restore it under OS X again. But this time it's more manageable because it doesn't try syncing automatically. Every time I have tried to sync it for the second time, it stops at the 13th-16th song and then I hear an unhealthy mechanism sound coming from the iPod. I've checked if it was a faulty wire, since I have 2, and both have the same problem. Also, when I plug it out after it pulls some of these shenanigans, it shows the OK to disconnect screen, and once the bar reaches the end the iPod resets itself, and makes some more strange sounds in the process.
Well, that's my story. I'm freaking out because I leave for Germany tomorrow, and now I won't even get to listen to my iPod on the plane.
Is there anything I can do? Are there any diagnostic tools I can use to tell if my iPod is dying or not? Any help would be sincerely appreciated. Obviously, my iPod isn't under warranty with Apple anymore, but I have a repair plan with RadioShack. It takes like 3 weeks though, so that's really out of the question in terms of action I can take right now.

Try to put your ipod into disk mode and run disk utiliy to see if there are any corrupt files on the HD.

Reformating it and restoring it again would be another option.

Looking at the date, you might be on your plane already, good luck anyway

  • Strange sound - muvo n

    Hi.
my problem: during listening the music i hear in background very iritating and strange sound (kind of crack like in out of tune radio)any solutions ?

Try formatting the player, and loading a firmware update. Then load some new content (music) onto it. Also, if you have another set of headphones to try, that would be best, to make sure that isn't causing the problem.

    so chris...
It IS in fact "New" as it started a couple of days ago - AND - something indeed has changed = "... updated to iOS 8.1" - BUT - a little unclear about the context of "... when (f)irst released all ok" part? are these two separate statements?  "... updated to iOS 8.1 when it [was] first released" and "all was OK prior that point" and then started misbehaving right after the update? - OR are you saying that when "updated to iOS 8.1 [WHEN IT WAS] first released, all was OK - as in the shutter-snap sound worked fine and THEN suddenly began misbehaving"
In these forums, it may be to your advantage to try not using IDevice 'texting' practice of being brief... in here, MORE is more better.
If the update was the beginning of the issue, that may be added to the list of strange things that happen to some and not to others.
I would suggest a visit to the Genius Bar if one is nearby, but older iPhone may only get you so far if you don't stick by your claim that "everything was fine until I updated my iOS 8 version"
as I cannot help, I will leave you in this forum and further advice you may get here in Using iPhone (you know that you started the question out in Using Apple Support Communities forum)

  • MacBook Pro makes strange noises

My MacBook Pro recently started to make strange noises like an elecyticity cable was sparkling. Today I closed the screen to move it and started to make a greater sound like an old ventilator when I opened back then it went into sleeping, can somebody tell me what is happening?
    Thanks

I think I had the same problem as you on a 13" MBP. After the grinding noise, did your laptop suddenly make a really fast whooshing sound? If that's what you're experiencing, there might be a broken ball bearing in your fan. In that case, you have to take it to an Apple Store and get that replaced.

  • Strange Sounds/Occurrences

So the "Strange Sounds/Occurrences" are coming from two places:
first: the fans. It seems as thought they run quite a bit... do fans on MacBooks usually run so fast, so loud, so long? It seems like they're usually running at over 3000 RPM and often much higher... seems like a bit much to me.
My other question is regarding the disc drive. Whenever I turn on the computer or wake it from sleep, the disc drive (at least I'm pretty darn sure it's the disc drive) makes a bit of noise (same rhythm/sound every time). I just want to check to make sure this is normal. It's also a somewhat noisy drive when it comes to loading discs, burning, erasing, etc. Normal, yes? I hope so!
    Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

are you viewing video clips/movies or a video application?
if your video card is working harder then the more heat it will produce, then your fans kick in until the video card is cooled down to the proper temp.
if the fans dont kick in then your card will pretty much melt.

yes, the sound it makes when coming out of sleep is normal.
the sound when you load a cd/dvd into the laptop is also normal... well at least with the 2 mac laptops that i own.

  • Strange sound issue with my Satelite U300

I've got a strange sound problem with my laptop.
I have XP pro + SP3 (downgraded from Vista to XP)
Couple week ago, a reinstall XP, because I thought it could solve my problem. But...nothing.
This is a problem: When I turning my laptop on, it gives me a message, "warning, cannot access volume control". When I check device manager, the only yellow question mark is bout PCI memory controller and there is no more unrecognized devices founded.
In Sound, video and game controller - Realtek High definition Audio is just missing.
Usually , then everything is ok, in "Device manager - Sound, video and game controller " I have - Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio drivers, Legacy Video CApture Devices, Media Control Devices,
Video codecs, Realtek High definition Audio. But then sound is missing, the "Realtek High definition Audio" is also missing.
Computers restart doesn't help. Even, when I uninstall Realtek sound drivers from "Add and remove.." and install it freshly, it also doesn't help. I tried to update drivers - nothing..
But, there is one strange thing: When a turning my laptop on couples hours later, or even next day (for exmpl) everything is ok. Sound works. And I can understand why....
All drivers downloaded from Toshiba. BIOS is being updated.
Maybe somebody know how to solve this problem? Any solutions?

    Hello
This issue has been brought up on this forum several times under other topic headings. Look under Audio Driver Missing, for instance. I have had this exact problem since purchasing my Toshiba notebook more than a year ago. Toshiba tech support is useless - and you're right that BIOS updates or changes make no difference, at least so far. The other ideas or replies given so far on this forum also don't solve the problem. Unfortunately for now I think you have to live with it, until someone spends the time to figure out what is really going on. I am curious if it is a Toshiba problem, a Realtek problem, or a Vista / compatibility issue.
I have two suggestions, which aren't fixes, but can help get your sound back when it disappears:
    1. Restart several times, not just once. Sometimes it works.
    2. Try the System Restore function. This used to work for me, until I updated the BIOS and now it no longer helps with this issue!
Make sure you post a solution if you figure it out!

  • New MacBook making strange sounds...

Alright, I know already that MacBook's have been known to make some strange sounds (buzzing noise near the top left of the keyboard etc.) but this noise has been driving me crazy...
The sound comes from around the center to the bottom right of the keyboard and sounds like I guess a bubbling/gargling-ish scratching sound I guess. I have no idea where the CPU is on the MacBook so maybe it's coming from that? It's very difficult to explain but it's the only other strange sound I've heard besides the buzz in the top left corner so maybe some of you know what I'm talking about.
Well anyways, it's been driving me nuts and I was wondering if there's any way to get rid of this sound? Sorry if this is a bit vague, it's difficult to explain so if you need anymore information, I'll get back to you asap.

I went to the Apple Store today to get it looked at and they couldn't find any problems with it. They ran all sorts of tests, and found nothing wrong with it. However, when I got home from the Apple Store, about an hour after starting my MacBook up, I start to hear a crackling sound come from the Hard Drive. Is this normal and should I be worried? Because even though the genius said that my HD is fine, I'm still worried since I've never heard this sound coming from it so loudly and consistently.
