HD Media Player won't play MPEG4

I have the Western Digital TV HD Media Player which I'm trying to use as a point-of-purchase HD player in several locations. My problem is that I can't get my favorite picture with audio (the HD-DVD selection in Compressor looks fantastic but won't play audio).
I shoot with the Sony PMW EX-1 in XDCAM and bring into Final Cut using Sony's XDCAM File Transfer.
We have tried to make MPEG4 files using various settings in Compressor and the resulting files are jerky and/or audio sticks and is off sync. We've also tried converting a Quicktime movie to MPEG4 using MPEG Streamclip and we get the same problem.
Please help!

I'm in the same boat with you. Here's my suggestion:
Using tsmuxergui create a transport stream with your HD-DVD Video and audio (I assume AC3). tsmuxergui should take the .m4v video stream and the .ac3 audio stream and mux them together. (Google it, you can download it free). I haven't tried this approach on mine as I just thought of it after I read your question.
I've had similar issues with the WDTV with MP4 playback. My only thought is to make sure you're using the high profile of h.264 (sadly you can't control profile info like that in making a .mp4 from Compressor). But try the transport stream and you should be good.

Video Streaming in Windows media player won't play through Airport Extreme

Hello and thank you for reading my issue.
I have the current square shaped airport extreme base station. My mother has a Windows XP system on her Toshiba laptop and she takes an online class which has video streaming for the lectures. When we connect to the network wirelessly or with an ethernet cable through the base station, the video will not begin to buffer and won't play from the website. It just states ready and doesn't buffer. However, if we connect the laptop straight to our cable modem without the base station, the videos stream and play perfectly. Anybody know how we can fix this to play through the wireless network? Thanks a lot.

I've played with all sorts of software settings and configurations. This is what worked for me, but I'm not sure how it would work for anyone else, or if the issues are even related, but here goes.
1 - Turn multicast rate to 1 MBPS in the drop down menu found in Airport Utility>Airport icon>Wireless Options Button.
2 - Turn off multicast in Windows Media Player or Real Player
3 - Turn on Video Overlay Optimization check box in Real Player.
These things worked for me, hopefully they will help or give you some ideas for your own situtation.

Here is the actual error message. The video card has an updated driver. I can't figure out how to resolve this -
Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.

First of all, if you've recently installed any virtual drive software ( an exmple of this is Daemon Tools ), temporarily uninstall it, restart the notebook and see if this has corrected the error.
If the above doesn't apply, try downloading and installing the free KLite codec pack on the following link.

When the installation has completed, restart the notebook and check again.

Windows Media Player won't play media (way to go MS!)

Seems a LOT of people are having trouble getting Windows Media player to work, including me.
When I click a link, such as a song sample link on Amazon, the Media Player window opens, but then doesn't play. Sometimes I get the message "Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and filename are correct and try again."
I have re-downloaded the file and re-installed the app, and trashed
the preference files, but still nothing. I have unchecked Multicast, UDP and TCP, in preferences, as someone suggested.
And why do media players insist on moving the volume control to "max"
when they open, instead of staying where you set them?! Quicktime does
the same thing.

if the media file was created in v10 of media player, then the current Mac client will be unable to read the file.
(MS in their wisdon decided to make the file format incompatible with v9 for Mac.)
alas, we have no way of knowing which version created the wmv file.
You may also have a hosed WMP plugin. Try right clicking the link and downloading the file instead of playing it through your browser.

DVD Player won't play some DVDs

My DVD Player won't play certain DVDs. Presumably all commercial DVDs should be playable in the software. Fox discs are a problem. I can get Player to turn on, but after the menu, the screen flashes a reading error, from which it could not recover. Yesterday I tried to play a Paramount disc, and nothing happened. The computer didn't even acknowledge that there was a disc in the tray. A Wolfe Video wouldn't read at first (I got a dialogue box that the disc was blank) but I put it in again and that time it played.
Also, on a side note, I would like future editions of DVD Player to add the feature of allowing the viewer the ability to go backwards a frame at a time, as well as forwards.

This is starting to sound like a different problem. Your original report seemed to apply only to specific DVDs. Now it's with all DVDs. Before we get into how to reinstall DVD player, let's try a few other things that are more likely troublemakers with DVD Player.
1. As a general check, run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.
2. Reset DVD Player. Peform all of the following steps before attempting to launch DVD Player again:2.1. Trash the com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist file in your Home > Library > Preferences folder. This file is the preferences file for DVD Player.
2.2. Using Get Info, make sure you are the Owner and have Access of Read & Write on the following folders on your account:• Home > Library > Application Support.
• Home > Library > Application Support > DVD Player.
• Home > Library > Application Support > DVD Player > Settings.If not, correct the permissions accordingly using the Owner and Access pop-up menus in the Details sub-panel of the Ownership & Permissions panel of the folders' Get Info windows.
2.3. Trash the contents of your Home > Library > Application Support > DVD Player > Settings folder.3. If none of the above sorts it out, let's see what Console can tell us: After the problem occurs, make note of the time, then immediately check the ends of these Console logs for clues that may have been logged when the problem occurred.
4. Note that none of the above rules out the possibility that your optical drive has become defective.4.1. Can you burn DVDs, e.g. even data DVDs from Finder?
4.2. See if the freeware VLC Media Player (nee VideoLan Client) can play the DVDs.Good luck!

I am experiencing the same issue with a new external DVD burner, a Sony DRX-840U. When I load a CD into this external drive it appears in iTunes but when you go to import or play the CD iTunes indicates playing or importing for each individual track for just a moment. The end result is that nothing is ever imported or played. I am experiencing this on two different systems. One a notebook running Win2K and the other a desktop running XPpro. If I use the internal DVD drives on either of these systems everything work just fine. Yet I am able to use this new external DVD drive with every other application. For example Window Media Player has no problem playing or importing the same CD that iTunes fails on. The last person indicated that if one set the DVD drive in question to be the drive of choice under preferences>advanced>burning that all was ok. I my case this Sony external drive is the drive listed as the drive of choice for burning yet the issue still exists.
As this appears to be an issue that others are also experiencing help from Apple Tech Support would be greatly appreciated.

Flash player won't play on home pages

My flash player won't play on my browser's home pages. My OS is : windows 7 64 bit ultimate and my browsers are : Mozilla,Chrome, and IE. I have owned this machine since laborday 2012 and all of them worked in the begining. This has been going on for a couple of weeks and I would like to resolve it. Video works normally in places such as youtube,but will not run on the browsers home pages. The strange part of it is that it will run the advertisements,but after that is done it will just set there with the loading icon going for awhile until a message come on that states that the stream could not be found. I just got done checking each browser to see if the players are up to date and they all where current.. Don't know what else to try. Any suggestions ? Thanks

Windows Media Player does not play Streaming me

After installing All the Software for Audigy 2ZS Platinum. My Windows Media Player will not play any video streams from MSN or Yahoo. Is there any known conflict with any of the software or how can I make the software compatible with WMP v0 windows XP.

Try the following to force Windows Media Player to re-build the Library Database.
A useful utility for viewing all the files on your PC is called Free Commander, on the link below, as it displays folders that the Operating System normally hides and has a good search function.

This is a zipped file. If you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip which can be used to open this so that you can run the installer.
Make sure Windows Media Player and Windows Media Centre are closed.
Launch Free Commander, double click Users, double click 'your user name', double click Local Settings, double click Application Data, double click Microsoft and double click Media Player. Delete all the files that have the extension .wmdb - do not delete any folders.
Close Free Commander and open Windows Media Player - it will now begin to re-build the library database which may take a while, but when it has finished see if the movie files play Ok now.

This is not an area I have much experience in......I rarely insert DVDs and I have never had a similar problem.
When the DVD is in the drive (and DVD players is open) click on File>get disk info.

HT5271 Downloaded latest Apple updates that informed me old versions of Adobe Flash Player were disabled and advised me to go to Adobe and down load latest version of Flash Player. Did that, but Flash Player won't play swf files, which it did before.

Downloaded latest Safari update that informed me that older versions of Adobe Flash Player were being disabled and then advised me to go to Adobe and down load latest version of Flash Player. Did that, but Flash Player won't play swf files, which it did before. (Instead of opening, it comes up as a page of code).

Quit Safari.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
Click: Delete All
Now select the Storage tab.
Click Delete All
Relaunch Safari to test.

Quicktime Player won't play avi files all of a sudden

All of a sudden Quicktime Player won't play my avi files. They worked previously. I could play them with Quicktime 7 with or without Perian. I'm running 10.6.4.
They'll run fine on my MacBook and I don't have Perian installed on it.
Any ideas?

I just uninstalled Flip4Mac and everything is working as it's supposed to. Very strange. Perhaps a conflict with Perian? But then again, QT didn't play the avi files with Perian installed. So, I guess the conflict is with Flip4Mac and something else.

You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs. In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them), particularly any DivX extension to Safari. However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. I've installed Lion after which Flash Player won't play videos with Safari. I keep being prompted to download and install the latest version of Flash Player whcih I've done several times. Can someone please help me fix this.
I find Adobe's announcement that there are no issues with Flash Player and Lion a bit of a sick joke.

Are you getting any error messages? If so, list when they occur, and what it says to you.
Do you have the Fith Generation iPod (or the 5.5 generation)? If not, then that's why the videos aren't transferring; only the Video iPod (fifth generation) iPod is conpatible with video or game formats, not Nanos or any other type of iPod.
If you do have a Fifth Generation, have you tried the Five R's?

If you are getting a "you are not authorized" message, then click the "Store" tab, and click on "authorize" to authorize your account, if youa re trying to transfer purchased iTunes Store content to your iPod.
