HD Meter on Logic transport spikes into the red
I notice that whenever I am mastering a track within Logic in bounce mode the "HD" meter sporadically spikes into the red. Although most of the time there are no audible effects a while back I started getting static when the HD meter was spiking.
I find this odd since I'm not running any other audio tracks or plug ins.
So it only seems to happen during bouncing. I bounce in real time because I read once that you will get better audio quality results if you have a higher grade audio interface vs. using the Mac's internal processor.
Hopefully this doesn't mean something is wrong with my Mac Pro. It's only about a year old.
Thanks for any suggestions.
The disk meter is responding because you are writing to disk.
Disk writes are buffered, so their will be little packets of activity, rather than one long write. I don't think there is anything to worry about.

The Levels bar into the red after normalization
Sorry if this is a daft question, I am new to home recording and need to submit my audio via specific guidelines. I'm trying to get into audiobook production. I have a strong theatrical background but i don't know much about mastering audio so this has been challenging...
In the raw file, the levels were primarily in green, occasionally in yellow.
I used "match volume" to get my RMS to a certain level. Then I used a limiter to set to -3 db.
Now the file goes into the red. According to Amplitude statistics. there are 0 "possibly clipped samples" so why then do the levels keep going into Red? I thought that was indicative of clipping?
That's my first question, my second is does anyone know of any basic audio mastering classes for voiceover using Adobe Audition? Less about how to edit audio, more about anatomy of audio files and the meaning of each of these parameters and how they relate to one another. Thanks for your response. I probably did a terrible job of explaining.
I did originally try the "normalize" option and then the limiter but my RMS stats were too high to submit the audio book. They recommend normalizing peaks at -6db, I found this video which states that you can normalize via RMS levels by match volume: How to Normalize Audio Peak and RMS in Adobe Audition CS 5.5 Tutorial - Normalization - YouTube which I thought would at least bring that RMS number down so I was within their required range. It did so all my amplitude specs meet their specs now but I'm just a little perplexed by the red in the level bar.
This is all very new to me and I need to educated myself. I don't even really understand the difference between normalization and compression and why one is favored over the other. This is all really kind of over my head. I think I can learn it but I need someone to explain it to my in layman's terms.
When I do a raw recording, my Total RMS is always way over the recommended RMS the audiobook production company suggests a pre-mastered file should have. Lowering the gain makes the peak amplitude too low. That should be at -12 max while the RMS should be no greater than -28. RMS is around -40. So in a sorta related question, while recording, how do i lower my RMS without killing the peak amplitude. -
Uploading Meter data into the system
Can some one please describe the process of uploading the meter data into CC&B.
What is the content of the flat file that i upload.can i upload a meter read XML file directly into the staging tables.....kindly explain the steps..I have not been able to upload any daat into the system using staging control and staging upload page.
Also i found out that there are batch process MUP1 and MUP2 which need be rum in order to upload the meter data into the system from the meter read staging table. Is this correct.
With regards to the meter upload staging table, i referred to the MR staging table : CI_MR_STAGE_UP
there is some data available with the installation as demo data.
For column MR_UP_STATUS_FLAG, there are values such as E, P, C...I unsersatnd there meaning.
1) For Pending P status, i submitted the batch processes MUP1 and then MUP2, expecting that teh status might change to Complete, c.......at the same time i ran MRUP-PRG ........well i was going to write nothing happened , but i saw that after some time all teh rows with ataus P and C are not present any more..........
2)How do i rectify the data with E status.........
Please helpp me uploading more data to the CI_MR_STAGE_UP Meter read staging table.Hi,
thanks for the reply..
can u please tell me what is the content of the flat file that i upload.can i upload a meter read XML file directly into the staging tables.....kindly explain the steps..I have not been able to upload any daat into the system using staging control and staging upload page.
if u can give a flat file sample content for the meter read.
Also is it advisable to insert data into upload staging table through SQL drectly.
And can u pls tell me the difference between XAI upload staging table and other upload staging table such as for MR, FA etc. -
I'm new to Logic Pro X and can't work out how to record my voice over existing tracks without them playing over the speaker. I'm using a Sure mike through an audio interface and have headphones plugged into the interface?
Hi Kevin, what kind of audio interface do you have?

My 12" powerbook logics card crashed. I have a 17". How do I retrieve my internet bookmarks from the 12" by putting it into Target mode on the 12" and looking into the hard drive on the 12"? Where on the 12" hard drive do I go to search for them?
If the 12's logic board is trashed, I don't think you can get into FireWire Target Disk Mode. The computer has to start to get to FWTDM. Will it starte and run at all?
If it won;t start, you will have to go inside and extract the hard drive. Then get this gadget:
Newer Technology Universal Drive Adapter USB 3.0/2.0 - connects any 2.5", 3.5" or 5.25" drive
It allows you to connect a bare drive to another computer that has USB. It will act just like an external disk drive. Assuming the 12's drive is not damaged due to the LB failure, you can retrieve files quickly. -
How to transport the DATABASE TABLE into the Test system ?
Hi Experts,
I am working on BI7, I had created Database table in BDV system using SE11. Tech_name is ZGLACC_TEMP. I had activated it. I had used this database table for the purpose of writing the start routine in the transformation. while I am transporting the transformations to the test system, It is showing as syntax error in ABAP program,
In BDV system there are no syntax errors. it is working fine,
So now I have to transport the database table to test system so that I can transport the transformations into Test system without any error.
Kindly anyone can give the answer , it will be appreciate and points will be assigned.
thanks
sekharHi Sekhar,
Go to SE11, go into the change mode of your table and change the Object Directory entry (Goto -> Object Directory Entry) to some valid package (other than $tmp). Then it will ask for a transport request. Give a transport request and then I believe you know what to do with that transport.
Another thing to keep in mind ... transport all the data elements and domains you have created for this table. Change their Object Directory Entry and assign them to the same transport request.
Best regards,

Consolidating ALL third party files into the Logic project.
Does anyone know if there is a way to do this?
Kontakt samplers, custom patches of 3rd party synths never save into the Logic Project.
Is there a way to get them to consolidate into the Project Folder?
I constantly find ive lost files, need to re-link them or get lost with locations.
If there was a way to simplify this it would be great.
Any ideas?- Put the jar file on a location you want (the location must be the same for all developers).
- Select the "Libraries" node of your project.
- Press the right mouse button to bring up the popup menu and choose "Add JAR / Folder..."
- Locate and select the JAR file you need and press OK.
- Now you have included it into your project. -
Does Pr embed any meta data into the finished (exported) files?
I'm worried that it embeds my name, username or something like that into the finished movie files intended for distribution/playback. Is this the case?
If not, does it embed any kind of meta data? Perhaps that it was made with Premiere? Photoshop seems to add that to every file. Many formats do not support MetaData, so depending on your chosen format, it is probably not even possible. Then, even where it is, such as WMV's and DRM, PrPro will not do that without direct input from you, and might not even be able to do that, if you wished.
Good luck,
Hunt
@ Joe,
Glad that it does not embed my arrest record (see Video Lounge thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1167864?tstart=0 )...

Update the data into the ZTABLE fields thru program logic ..?
hi all,
i have ZTABLE1,ZTABLE2,ZTABLE3, and this tables like ALV grids using object methods.
in the same table fields now i wanted to update the data into the ZTABLE fields thru program logic .
could anyone please help me ....
please provide if anyone of have any program logic that would be helpfull to me.
thanks in advance...
srinivas....Hi Srinivas,
The following statements are used to upload the data into custom tables.
1. Modify
2. Update
3. Insert
if you are using OO ALV, you should enable the 'SAVE' button in the main toolbar. if the user press the save button, then you should upload the data to the custom table.
please find the example code, in this example 'PERFORM F_SAVE_DATA'(here i gave the message only, you write your own logic here) is used to save the data in custom table.

Is it possible to record parts of a phone call on Skype into Logic, then play back the audio while still on the Skype call? I'm a voice teacher coaching students in other cities, and Skype can't offer any suggestions.
Hi
What I'm saying is:
Make a new MONO audio track (use the + button). Assign it to input 1
Make a second new MONO track, assign it to input 2
Name both tracks, record-enable both tracks, and record.
You could, of course, make both tracks in one go via the new track dialog box, and hav ethem automatically assigned to ascending inputs.

Good day colleagues.
We are in the process of introducing retrofit, and the picture is clear for us, generally speaking, to retrofit the project landscape with the changes done in the maintenance landscape.
What about the other way around? We mean, when the project is set to Go Live, we understand the transports will be all added, e.g. to the Production System buffer to be moved there via Maintenance Cycle, based on the way we defined the project and the logical component being used.
However, how do you feed those project transports to your Maintenance Development System using ChaRM? or do you do that Manually? We doubt. Copying Production back into Development? no way !!!
How do you establish that? We have a sort of idea but the documents about retrofit only seem to talk about moving transports one way, as far as we have found.
Many thanks for any feedback.
Juan CarlosHi Piyush.
I apologize for a late close on this questioning about moving projects back into the maintenance stream.
Basically there are 2 solutions as far as we know:
1. What Vivek mentions, which is performing a cutover and repacking the project transports into 2 transports in the maintenance stream: A workbench and a customizing. In that sense, at the end of the day you end up moving just 2 transports to the maintenance stream up to Production. They contain all your project objects. Thanks to Vivek, again.
This is a very practical and interesting approach. The only reason we did not adopt it, is based on the fact that if by any chance we encounter an issue with a project transport object in the maintenance stream (Dev or QA), now that all is bundled together, we may be stuck right at the time weare getting ready to GoLive. How tough is going to be that issue? how easy and quick to fix?how much would that affect the whole project time frame? Those questions made us decide to option 2.
2. What we are doing is that at cutover we move at the same time all project transports to the transport buffer of each of the maintenance stream systems (Dev, QA, and Prod). We first open the gate to move the transports to Dev and we test, then to QA and we test, as well. If there may be an issue, and the issue can not be quickly resolved by the project team, we can go up to the extreme of using a new feature introduced in ChaRM in SP10, if we are not wrong, but definitely available in SP12. That feature provides a way to selectively decide which transports of the release are to Go Live and which ones do not, although we have no had to use that feature, yet, but it is there.
We do not see any risk on adding the transports to the maintenance buffers at the same time. There are ways to control the systems that are open for receiving transports, and the project phases, which guarantees no room for error. There have to be deliberate actions taken (more than one in our case), to wrongly move a project to GoLive before its time comes.
That is more or less the scenario Piyush.
Hope that explains the scenario. So far no decision on really publishing as a blog. It seems not to be written on stone, as consulting with different companies, each adds its own flavor to the recipe and shuffle ideas to get to what they are looking for and makes them happy.

No logical sytem found in the drop down under SAP authentication in CMC
Hi Swapna,
This is quite simple. Click on New and enter the following information:
System e.g TS6
Client e.g. 800
Application Server e.g. yourservername
System number e.g. 00
Username e.g. Crystal
Password e.g Password
and Language e.g. EN
Press Update and and go to the Role Import tab. Import your role and don't forget the set the checkbox Enable SAP Authentication under the Options tab when using sap authentication.Hello,
We are trying to integrate existing BO environment in our company with existing BW installation.
BO Environment - 3.1
BW/ECC Environment - (BW - BI 7.0 SP20, ECC 6.0)
So got the pre-requisites completed and the transports imported into both BW and ECC environments. Upon these steps we went ahead and installed the integration kit for 3.1 system.
There were no error messages, after we completed the installation went into infoview and in the authentication drop down checked to see if I can get "SAP" in there....which it did. So, I am assuming there were no issues till this point which we might have missed out.
Upon this, when I went into SAP authentication in CMC and double clicked on SAP and in the next screen clicked on "NEW" and added in the application server, system number, id and password and updated it...this automatically updated the logical system.
But when I go into the role import, it gives me the following error message....
Exception in JSP: /jsp/auth/sapsec_import_role.jsp:22:19:20: <%21:string context.........lot of other message
The only thing is we have not assigned the CRYSTAL_ENTITLEMENT role to it as we are at this point only trying to see if we can log into webi...
Can you please help me out on this.
Thanks

For the first time in Logic I have just used an outboard midi intrument on a song. How do you route it into the bounce? The only option afforded to to a group, but I can't get any sound feeding through to the bounced mix.
cheersPage 297 of the manual:
Input Object
The Input Object allows you to directly route and control signals from your audio hardware’s input. Once an Audio Input Object is assigned to an audio channel, it can be monitored and recorded directly into Logic, along with its effect plug-ins. The signal is processed—inclusive of plug-ins—even while Logic is stopped. In other words: Input Objects behave just like external hardware processors. Bus sends can be used pre or post-fader.
The Audio Input Objects can effectively replace your old mixing desk, or at least save time while bouncing:
Audio Input Objects make the bouncing procedure much easier, as there’s no longer any need to record the audio signal of your MIDI devices before bouncing (mixing down) their output with the audio recordings. The live Audio Input Objects allow you to mix down the audio signal from your external hardware MIDI synthesizers and sound modules into a stereo mix (by bouncing an Output Object).
The Input Object features the following elements: Inserts, Bus Sends, Output,
Grouping, Automation, Pan, Level, and Level meter, Mute/Solo, Mono/Stereo. -
How can I have multiple inputs into the selector terminal of a case structure
Hi everyone
I have a question on how to wire multiple inputs in to the selector terminal of a case structure.
Currently, I have three switches, each switch determines different case. So if I switch the switch 1 is on, the numeric indicator will show 1. If the switch 2 is on, the numeric indicator will show 2, so on and so forth. However, the selector terminal will not allow me to wire multiply inputs into the case structure, I tried Bundle by Name, Bundle and Array to Cluster, but they did not work. I set the case structure with 3 cases, they are 1, 2 and 3.
Could someone help me please. I have attach an image and the VI of the work I did so far.
I have another question, is there a function which can toggle other switches to off when there is a switch has been toggled on.
Thank you very much
Tommy

Trial - Case Structure.vi 7 KBTommy, attached find a cheeseball way of doing this that has given me a LOT of mileage over the years. IT lends itself nicely to a couple of really good practices that NI recommend, but I have given you the bare-bones to "see under the hood".
The recommended practices:
1. You can make this a nice tight sub-vi where you can put it into a core library of routines that you'll use over the years, even extending the logic to look only for changes, etc.
2. If you are thinking about Front Panel design considerations, you'll want to use arrays of controls where possible, as that's a nice neat way of containerizing your switch for both the FP and Block Diagram.
Have fun. I have TONS of these types of things, so feel free to PM me if you have any other needs.
