HD (MTS- File) to view on Mac

I have a Sony HDR SR5 video camera. As per Sony i should be able to import the files through the new IMovie (MTS or CPI). But it is not possible, since the files stay grayish (no option to import them). Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can convert the files so i am able to view them on my mac?
the SD files i am able to convert with Sreamclip - but HD does not work.

See this thread, it might help.

  • .MTS files from Panasonic GH2 camera show noise artifacts

If I load .MTS media files from my Panasonic GH2 camera onto the timeline of Premiere Pro CS6 (Win7 on PC) on some footage I get a wierd noise/artifact appearing in the footage on playback and also if i render the timeline out.
The artifacts look like a 'rain' of digital noise appearing in certain dark areas of the footage (issue doesn't happen on well lit scenes)
If I use Media Player Classic to play back the .MTS footage outside of PP CS6 the footage plays back 100% ok.
If I transcode the .MTS files into DNxHD format using Adobe Media Encoder the problem persists.
However ....if I transcode the .MTS files into DNxHD format using a 3rd party transcoder (5DtoRGB) the problem is resolved and the DNxHD files work 100% ok in PP CS6
It is as though both PP CS6 and also Adobe Encoder are not interpretting the .MTS file structure ok (?) and introducing artifacts.
It seems that some dev work is needed to resolve the handling of .MTS files by Adobe (?)
    Can anyone please assist?
    Thanks

Hi guys.  Just wanting to pitch in here as I found this post and I am having exaclty the same problems.  Here is my post today on Creative Cow.  It appears to be a problem with the Mainconcept filers used by PP which needs to be fixed.  I got thhat information from this post and my post follows:
http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5120/please-help-problem-with-my-gh2-footage/p2  post near the bottom by "willyfan".
    Here is my experience.
The problem is rain like artifacts on GH2 MTS files when viewed and exported from PP CS6 (I haven't tried but apparently cs5.5 was the same). I have taken some clips and you can view them with the links at the bottom of this post. The rain like effect builds up over 1 second then disappears then builds again cyclically every 1 second. Guessing this is GOP related??
If you view the original material in VLC the first second shows the effect then it disappears and you just have the normal background noise but no obvious cycling rain. I have tried both stock 1.1 GH2 firmware and with higher bit rate set via ptools but the effect is the same even with stock firmware.
Import into PP and you can see it on source and program monitor, it does not show if you set the monitors to half res. However the export does show the effect.
If I transcode the MTS via FFMBC to prores the prores files plays fine from the vert start, shows fine in PP when imported and exports fine too.
So this relates to some sort of comparability issue between PP (and AE I am told) and the GH2 MTS files.
If anyone else has come across this can you tell me how you resolved it. Obviously I can pre convert to prores prior to import the PP but that negates the huge advantage of native support on the PP timeline and wastes a lot of time.
Files below of 2 sec clip if you want to have a look but any ideas guys?
    Cheers
    Andy

This sounds like you noticed it yourself while using your computer. I suppose what you are saying is that you read somewhere that this should be possible? Where did you read about this?

  • How can I view an AI file created on a MAC on a PC without corrupting the fonts?

How can I view an AI file created on a MAC on a PC without corrupting the original fonts?  An AI file was created with an image and text on a MAC.  When the AI file was opened on a PC, the text fonts were not the same as originally created.  Also, the same AI file was saved to PDF on the MAC.  When the AI file was opened on a PC, there wasn't anything visible.  Anyone have any ideas?

Are you using the save version of Illustrator on both Mac and PC? If so, and you have the same fonts installed on both machines you should be able to open it without any problems. You may need to tell it which fonts to assign, they are not always named the same. If you don't need to edit the text, you could convert the text to outline and eliminate the need for fonts.

  • CS4 Premiere locking up royally on little mts files on Mac Pro Lion 10.7, is CS5.5 any better

Sorry for long title, got the boxes mixed up.
Having trouble working with HDV mts files in CS4 Premiere on a new 12 core MAC Pro with Lion 10.7 OS
Have used Adode CS3 and now CS6 at my office regularly. CS6 can work with about any file type.
Found this ClipWrap program on online and have re-wrapped these mts files into .mov files. They do open and must be each rendered out and do so slowly. Scrubbing the video doesn't do well - locks it up.
Very certain I have plenty of Computer power, is CS4 a dog? It will open CS6 projects that I bring home from work and do basic cutting on with M2T files and MPEG2 HD video.
I also do not see near as many Transition and Effects options for Audio or Video in CS4 as I had back with the old CS3 when I use it - very puzzling.
Would CS5.5 give me more optimal performance with this MAC? Do I need a third party card? We now run full HD on CS6 at work without using the Blackmagic card I have. Should uninstall and re-install the software? I am a video editor, just doesn't seem to perform like it should.
I am considering looking into the Final Cut X after this. Thoughts on this subject welcome.
    Thank you.

    Anything??

  • Color Cast Only On Mac Generated jpg files When Viewed In Bridge Cs3 Preview

    Hi,
( Issue With Cs3 Bridge Viewing Jpgs - Getting Colour Cast on the Mac Generated Jpgs Files Only When Viewed In Bridge Cs3 On PC )
Using  CS3 creative suite Mac & PC and viewing all files on the PC.
We have  psd files when viewing in bridge they are  ok and save jpgs via PS3 both on the Mac & PC off the same PSD file that we started with.
But when viewing these jpg files in bridge we get a red cast only when viewing from the Mac generated files from the same PSD we started with.
When we open the jpg files up in Photoshop all of them are ok we no issues only when viewing in bridge we get the red cast.
All PSD files have the same information content:
    Bit depth
    Colour space
    Pixel size
Why are we getting this happening.
    Thnx

Thanks very much for that lead, NormanPCN. I do have Auto Tone checked, though the rendered files in the example above do not have XMP sidecars. I will try unchecking Auto Tone even so, and post back when I see what happens.
    Thanks again,
    Kieren
EDIT: Bingo! I took Auto Tone off in ACR Preferences (in Bridge) and the non-RAW files immediately regenerated thumbs and previews. They now are indistinguishable from the PSD. There is still the very slight difference which I mentioned between the PSD and the CR2. While that seems odd, it is small enough to be relatively trivial.
    Many thanks!

  • Can't see MTS files using mac os 10.9.5 and adobe premiere elements 12

I am using a MacBook Pro and OS is 10.9.5. Adobe premiere elements 12 does not recognize MTS files from my SD card. The OS does not see MTS files from the card as well...but...I have an MTS file on my desktop from before I upgraded from 10.6.8 that can be seen by both Adobe and the new OS.
    HELP

    annejennifer
What are you using as your Add Media/ for the import of your .mts on the SD?
Not sure if the following is a viable question, but....
What happens if you transfer the .mts on the SD card to your computer desktop and then try to
import the .mts into Premiere Elements 12 with its Add Media/Files and Folder/Project Assets?
But on reflection, if your OS and Premiere Elements are both not seeing the file, this does not
present as a Premiere Elements issue, rather an issue between the .mts format and your Mac computer.
If that is a valid observation, have you gotten any input on this from Apple?
Have you looked into converting these .mts files into H.264.mov or .mp4 before use?
    ATR
Add On....could you give us more information about the .mts file that you said that you have on your new
computer desktop and is being recognized by the OS and Premiere Elements 12?

  • Viewing AVCHD MTS files from a Canon Camcorder

    Something is puzzling me:
With my Canon HG10 camcorder connected (or a disk image of it's files connected), I can launch iMovie 08 and view all the clips one by one before I import anything. This would seem to imply that there is a movie viewing application in there somewhere. Quicktime won't open these files, so that's not the program.
Toast Video Player also allows me to view the .MTS files, but the frame rate is choppy. Same with the latest nightly builds of VLC.
I'd like to be able to just double click on a MTS file and have it open in a window to watch the clip. Is there any way to do this?

    Found this:
    http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20120801145830468
In Mountain Lion, movies are now locked into Quicktime so the folder  structure containing your .mts movie files on SD cards and devices is  now all hidden under a file called PRIVATE. To get to the files, hold  down the Control key and click on the PRIVATE file. In the popup menu,  select Show Contents and repeat through the files until you reach your  original .mts files, which can then be dragged to the desktop.

Hi sir im using fcp 7 for video editing in i mac, how can i edit mts files in fcp 7 without log n transfer, is their solution for fcp 7?

    >No, you are not right.
Going to question the biggest contributor to this forum?  (Yes, my ego is talking).  OK then...
    >Install the QT-Plugin, restart your Mac and you will be able to import and use .mts files in FCP 7.
Sure...yes, that makes it POSSIBLE to read the files natively in FCP...if they come from a Panasonic camera. BUT...just try working with those files.  Right away the system won't be nearly as responsive as it would if they were ProRes. First...there are no sequence settings for that format...so you'll have to use ProRes and have a green render bar.  BUT, that's no big deal.  The big deal is trying to work with the AVCHD format, which is VERY processor intensive...inside an application that doesn't like to work with much outside of the FCP editing codecs.
Is it possible? Sure? Will it work well...will you be as zippy and error free as if you converted to ProRes? Not by a long shot.  OH, but don't just take my word for it.  Go ahead...try it and see.  No skin off my nose...no waste of my time.  See how well this works.
I'm just here to relate real world working solutions to issues.  And yes, I did try that plugin, and boy, was editing a pain.

  • How to import MTS files from Canon Vixia HF M40 to Mac for editing?

I recently bought a Canon Vixia HF M40 and I have been able to import the MTS video files to iMovie, but now that I want to edit in Adobe Premiere, I am at a loss. Can someone tell me an easy way to import these files to either my computer or into the program itself for editing. It is entirely too time consuming to import into iMovie and convert every single file to quicktime only to import into Premiere and export yet again (not to mention the quality loss). Thank you for any help you can give me.

  • Disappointed Stuttering .MTS Files In Program View Before Render

AVCHD, MTS files on my CS4 Premiere Pro. In the program monitor, when I am trying to make tight edits and add effects in specific spots, the video is stuttering as if I haven't enough power.
I just got a dell XPS 730, INTEL Core2 processor 2.83, 1333 FSB, quad core 12 MB of cache, Dual NVidia GeForce 9800GT Scalable Link Interface video cards, 4GB of DDR3 SDRAM at 1333 MHz. The hard drive is a SATA 2 at 7200 RPM.
When I render the video, it plays okay, but I have enough power to watch it smoothly on the program monitor as I edit. What is the problem?
A few years ago I had a very small computer and Premiere 7.0 and I had no problems.
I called tech support and they were clueless. They sent me from India (2 levels) to the States, a 3rd level.
I need smooth video BEFORE I render. What can I do??
P.S. The video (.MTS) plays fine on Windows Media Player.
    I have Vista Ultimate.

Well, my man, if you're over 50 like me and have watched the development of commercial software for 25 years on distributed platforms, you know that Adobe more than any other company has gone out of their way to BLOAT their products into oblivion. Being a retired corporate programmer, developer, designer, integrator, buyer, and ultimately officer and executive, I never understood the logic of their approach on any level. They have single handedly spawned a whole sub-industry of Adobe alternatives.
They simply don't write tight code anymore. And the number of user complaints is way above the median for the industry. We are on release 10. The product simply needs a rewrite. And they need to re-remember that the BEST software works seamlessly with the user. It doesn't now.
Premiere Pro fulfills a need to a high degree. BUT it's not perfect. And there are better written NLEs out there.

  • Help?! Can I edit MTS files with Mac OX 10.04

I have tried several times do edit MTS files in Final cut pro 6, but it does not recognise the files.
After that I tried do converte the files to AVI or MPEG-4 and still the finla cut stop, just watching the clip... Is it possible that the OX 10.4 does not suport this type of files to work on final cut pro 6??
    Best
    Cris

Thanks for the information. My version does not allowed me to log and transfer the all folder from the camera.
So, if I convert the files with the clipwrap, i will be hable to import it in final cut as a file? But still, my computer gives me a message to: - turning off unlimited RT, increase the speed of the system, lowering the compression data rate and others... So I thought that this OX 10.04 version is not enought to work with this files?

  • Undeleted MTS files not working

    Hey everyone
I've been trying to resolve this issue for about 2 weeks now and I'm having a lot of difficulty. I have been checking out countless forums, blogs and the like, but still have not been able to solve my problem. I will try and be brief, but my situation is as follows:
My boss handed me an SD card with about 2-3 years video footage which was not backed up, asked me to grab the files off it and delete the rest on the card. Which I did, then accidentally deleted (as well as an empty trash) the files I had just transfered to my desktop, very foolish I know!
After much searching online for programs to recover the deleted files I came across several, I tried the free trials for Stellar Phoenix, Mac Keeper, Nice to Recover & Data Rescue 3. Mac Keeper couldn't recover MTS files at all, and I ended up purchasing Stellar Phoenix. I ran Stellar Phoenix on the SD card and YAY!! I was able to recover the files directly from the source... well so it seems.
Prior to deleting the files I was able to open and watch the MTS files on VLC media player with no problems, but since their recovery I can't seem to find a program that will recognise the files. I tried iMovie, Quicktime even downloaded AVCHD conversion software such as iSkysoft video converter, Doremisoft Mac AVCHD Converter, Clip Wrap and Tanbee AVCHD Video Converter but unfortunately none of the programs could even identify the file format "format not recognised" often being the problem.
At this point I then attempted to recover the MTS files directly from my Trash using Stellar Phoenix, but after several attempts, the files still don't seem to appear at all. This got me searching for more alternatives. I soon discovered Photorec, (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec) despite the user interface, this proved promising, so far the best and fastest recovery program by a mile. Unfortunately though, it could only find about 5 of about 30 of my lost files and display only subliminal imagery when viewed in VLC.
Now I'm stuck!! has anyone out there gone through anything similar, and did you have any luck recovering your files????
    Alex

    astanuga wrote:

Photorec's interface is a Mac User's nightmare, indeed, because it is a Terminal.app only ... but free.
I did use it once, I deleted a file in camera - after pushing 'yes - erase it', I realized I deleted a very nice smile on that track.
so, in my case, the original SDcard existed, I immediately got it out the cam and let Photorec directly from card did its job.
only advice from here: use the original SDcard, no copies, no trashbins, no ... whatever. then you have a high chance.
