HD output process for best / highest quality?

We shot our film in DVCPRO HD 720p 24.
We are done editing and ready to output to DVD for festival submission. What is the best way to output the film for the best / highest quality?
Should we run this through compressor?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Paul

David, Do you need to adjust the compressor preset to maintain 24p thru dvd authoring (for better quality at lower bitrate - not to mention that full 24p experience on a properly configured dvd player and plasma screen)?
I know that DVDSP does not register the m2v file as 24p (even though it is). I use bitvice to do my high quality compression so I'm not sure about compressor.

  • C4780 scan this alignment page for best print quality problem

My C4780 photosmart printer is stuck in the "scan this alignment page for best print quality" loop.
i.e. It keep display this message and refuse to print.
My OS is windows Vista Home.
I had followed the steps in the user manual but still cannot fix this problem.

    Hi tsanchung,
From the description of your problem, it appears that the alignment process was not completed successfully.
I would recommend that you load the alignment page printed as shown in the section 'Step eight: Align the cartridges' in the link below to complete the alignment:

  • For best sound quality should volume be controlled from iPad or BlueTooth speaker?

For best sound quality when listening to music, should the volume be controlled from iPad or from a connected Bluetooth speaker?

For good sound quality, flat response is the most important thing. Take a look at qloud, http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=34412, and find yourself a very good microphone.
Then you will probably want to set a global equalizer for your machine. You can try with alsa, http://krustev.net/w/articles/Global_eq … _for_ALSA/.
If ALSA isn't finegrained enough, jack has a lot more flexibility, except for the fact that it doesn't allow you to set default output device, so you will need a helper application to redirect all output connections to your equalizer.
Well, i would say this is quite subjective. Untouched signal is superior to any equalized sound in my opinion, but i know this debate is never satisfying

  • Looking for best DVD quality as possible - help please !!!

    Hello All
I have some footage ( 55min ) recorded on a Sony Z1 - HDV 1080 60i - 16:9 and edit on FCP. I exported the file on the same setting. Then sent to compressor to creat a DVD on DVD SP. I dont wanna let DVD SP encode the files, even because it will not accept files on HDV to autoring a SD DVD.
Whats the best settings I can get to produce the best quality dvd as possible.
What I did is use the DVD Best quality 90 min and raised the bit rate to its maximum - 7.7 or so. Is there a better way to do it or should I choose a different setting.
Hope I could make myself clear.
    P.S. - Sorry for English.

    Hi
I think that the following tutorial will help you: [Exporting HDV Video from the Timeline to Standard Definition DVD|http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/hdv_timeline_to_sddvd.html].
You need FCP 6 (FinalCut Studio2) ti use ProRes codec.
PS: Sorry for my english ... I'm from Argentina !
    Hope that helps !

  • Book - best settings for best photo quality

What are the best settings for my photos in order to get the best quality book?
    Thanks
    Zasa

    zasa:
Use the largest file, pixel wise, that you can. The books are printed at 300 dpi so the largest size the better to insure you'll get as close to that dpi for the largest page picture possible.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Recommendations for best photo quality in a slideshow video?

I have a project that I'm working on where photo quality is a priority to the customer.  I'd never paid attention previously that the final product was less than perfect with the images...
Can someone recomend what best procedure would be and what settings I should be using on the sequence to preserve the quality? (or point me to a link that could walk me through it) The photos are all 1024px wide at 300dpi, currently saved as .jpgs.  I can resize and save them from Photoshop into another format if needed...
    Thank you!

Saw that you were going to DV. Your images will be scaled, but not by that much. If you will be doing and Pans with an image Zoomed out to max, you'll have a bit of wiggle room. In general terms, 1000x750 is recommended, though I size all of my images as needed, usually 720x480. The resizing algorithms in PrPro are not as good as those in PS. Still, you're talking such a small amount of scaling and already have JPEG's to start, that I would leave them, as they are.
In the future, you might try to go to before the JPEG compression, where quality is the biggest concern, and resize to suit in PS. Save_As .PSD.
Here's an ARTICLE on resizing in PS, if it's of interest to you.
    Good luck,

  • Exporting file for best web quality?

    Hey guys,
I was working on a magazine spread and I tried exporting it for web as a jpeg, but the text loses its quality...so I re-exported it as a pdf and the image loses its quality despite chosing maximum res...I want my text and my image to stay high res when i upload it on my website..how can I do that?
PS: Jpeg version opens fine on my computer and gets blurry when i upload it to the website.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hey Peter
Here is a link to my website.

As you can see the text in the first three images is blurry and disappearing but its sharp and clean on my desktop.
    Does that explain more?
    Thanks

  • Help! Handling Fonts for Best Print Quality

  • Best Sequence & Export settings For Best dVD quality

I Have footage of a wedding shot on a sony VX2000. The quality on Screen while editing looks great, but once i export it and burn it on DVD studio, when viewed the quality turns boxy and grandular on whatever TV i view it on. Are there any suggestions for a good sequence setting and export setting to work well with dvd studio pro and not lose any quality?? Thank You.

of course you're gonna lose quality. compressing already compressed marginal dv25 video to mpeg2 results in extremely compressed video, no way around that.
however, depending upon the length of your video and if you're using single or dual layer dvd media, you can mess with the bitrates to vary the amount of compression. compression is an art of trade offs and constant experimentation. if you're using compressor, start with the high quality presets and start testing. mess with the gop structure, the avg. and max bitrates.
    good luck.

  • Best settings for highest quality for exporting a .mov  file to h.264

    Hi,
I want to know what the best settings are for the highest quality for exporting a .mov file (720p50) to h.264. I want the same quality as the original.
I want to know the data rate etc.
    regards,
    Jeroen
    Message was edited by: Woudgraaf-AV

There is no way to get the exact same quality when transcoding from an editing source to a highly compressed H.264 QT. However, you can get a real high quality by adjusting the data rate.
However, these things depend on the length of the original. I routinely encode H.264s with good results in the 3000-5000 data rate range. I also make sure that I use multiple pass encoding. Take a short snippet of your project (10 seconds or so), and try various bit rates until you have one you like that doesn't take forever.

  • Best output presets for HD AVI?

I am capturing and editing cinefilm in 1920 x 1080i HD using Blackmagic HD MJPEG.
I then encode the final file into Matrox HD 1920 x 1080i codec. If I send that file to someone and they can't play it I just include the Matrox Codecs. They install those codecs and they can generally play and edit the HD films....I use an Matrox MXO2 box to speed HD encoding up significantly.
HOWEVER.... I have sent a film to someone who is using Pinnacle, which doesn't seem to want to accept Matrox codecs.....
The question is this....If I want to export 1920 x 1080i PAL HD files that generally anyone can use without the need for extra codecs is there a preset I should be looking at?
I use PAL DV output when the files are in Standard Definition and that seems to cover all bases, but when I go to PAL DV for HD the preset is locked down at 720 x 576i. I cannot make any changes, there are a whole bunch of other codec choices most of which scare the heck out of me, such as ffdsdirect show and so on.
What codec settings would give me about a 30GB per hour 1920 x 1080i HD output at the best possible quality, I capture to about 30GB per hour and want to roughly keep that file size. There is no pixel size change required I want to keep full HD resolution. It would be useful if the codec was also available on a normal PC without having to download extra codecs....is this possible?
Any suggestions will be most gratefully received.....

DV pal is 720x576 and you cannot change that.
You could consider wmvHD. Does an excellent job, and everybody can view it and much smaller files.
Some pc's might choke on large uncompressed files.

  • X-Fi Elite Pro: Which mode for best audio output?

I need your help in determining the best audio output (level and clarity). Up until now, I use the Entertainment mode (6bit/44.KHz) and the Audio Creation mode (in 96KHz, not sure at what bit depth this modes works though...). I need to find the best mode and in-mode settings to achieve maximum audio output level (in terms of dynamic range and dB level)as well as optimal sound clarity. For the latter, I believe that the sound should be unadulterated, so additional enhancements such as EAX, Crystalizer, CMSS etc should not be used...
    Any help will be appreciated

    Hello Hyperion,
I can try to answer this.
My experience (and you know that listening to audio and the quality is objectionable), I listen through "Gaming Mode". This seems to be the best "playback sound quality" at least for my ears.
Additionally, I really don't care for digital output, its not my preference so I have the MAUDIO E66's connected through analog. Simple but seems to be effecti've in terms of listening and not tiring to the ears.
"the sound should be unadulterated, so additional enhancements such as EAX, Crystalizer, CMSS etc should not be used"... I absolutley agree, to an extent. I setup my elite pro with the basic very "vanilla", but in the end, I do use the Crystalizer (set to "2"). I don't beli've in eqalization or very little, but the reality is unless you have a perfectly designed room acoustically, you will probobly benefit from some form of oversampling such as I stated. I would like others to chime in and share what operating systems they use. For best playback quality, I have found 2008 Server serves me well. But, motherboard, cpu, memory of course plays out as major hardware for consideration.
Anyway, I'm getting a bit off topic here - would really like to hear from Creative on this. What do they use in testing (mode, software, motherboard, cpu, memory).

  • Highest Quality Possible for PDF

Main Question: ignoring the size of the illustrator file, when you save the file as a PDF, intended for commercial print, what are the absolute best settings possible?
Before answering “Press Quality Preset,” (thank-you I know that already) maybe I should provide further detail. Where to begin...
This was the initial hitch that prompted further inquiry
I was trying to save an illustrator file (CS6 in case that makes a difference) as a PDF for print. Naturally I selected the Press quality preset. However, when I examined the settings for this preset, I found that my ‘Color Bitmap Images’ are using a JPEG compression. Sure the Image quality is set to the maximum, but it’s still a JPEG compression- thus prone to image degradation if it needs to be resaved (or at least that’s my understanding). It seems reasonable that the simple answer would be to just change the compression from JPEG to the only other option- ZIP, in order to maintain the quality. Duh!
However, I’m left wondering why JPEG is the automatic choice for the press preset if the ZIP compression provides better quality (possible answer- File Size). Furthermore, if the compression setting is not actually set for the highest quality possible (in an attempt to keep the file size down), then what other settings have been lowered in addition to this one.
My hope, as a result of posting in this forum, is to create a new PDF preset in illustrator that will optimize the quality of all possible aspects for any illustrator document. For ***** and giggles let’s just assume the document was originally created with an 1/8 inch bleed, using CMYK color mode, and a 300 ppi raster effect. Plus, this document has utilized every aspect of illustrator in some way (no this is not a real document- but rather a hypothetical document that is being used to identify the best possible settings available, no matter what the content is).
Will these settings be overkill for the majority of documents created in illustrator? Yes! But that’s not the point- the point is, I’m exhausted of having to sift through mountains of information, to figure out the reasonable and the friendly-file-size settings I “should” use for every document I create.
Now, I’m just looking for the big *I WIN* bomb that’ll cream all future documents, regardless of the content, transparency, effects, fonts, etcetera… etcetera (that’s a fact).
Maybe I could’ve skipped the story- but it just seems like people always end up having to go back to explain themselves anyway.
Input on... any of this would be greatly appreciated

PDF/x-1a -- No need to change anything other than maybe the marks - color bars, etc. But the overall comrpession and color settings are already appropriate for press.

  • What format to import AVCHD for best quality and how to export?

    Hi
My boss has got himself a panasonic HDC camcorder of some sort that is formatting the video in AVCHD.
Basically he was using adobe premiere pro from around 2003 on an pc running xp and loved it. My I.T. director persuaded him to buy an iMac and Final Cut Pro 7. As we stand now he states he hates macs because he can't figure out how to get his home movies off his camcorder and onto a dvd without them looking blurry and fuzzy.
Can anyone advise what format we should be importing the AVCHD files into final cut pro for best video quality and how we should be exporting the final movie for best quality to go onto dvd?
I will also note that he is using toast 10 titanium to burn his movies to dvd.
Also he is not looking to burn to blu-ray as none of his familiy have blu-ray players. He just wants his HD footage off camera and onto a dvd with the best quality picture he can get. Also his movies are approx 2 hours long and he has just ordered some Dual Layer DVDs
    Thanks
    Kieran

I take it you mean Pro Res 422 from the AVCHD plugin options? And not going for any of the other 422's with bits in brackets?
Sorry for being dumb in this area but my boss and i are both pretty new to FCP
How do i ensure i edit in a pro res sequence?
Export straight to quicktime no quicktime compression or anything?
    Thanks for your help
