HD PowerShot camera whose audio for video of rock concerts is decent?

Many years ago, I bought a Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Digital ELPH.  I loved the camera as it not only took good pictures, but the sound quality of videos I took of live metal and rock concerts was outstanding.
Then, the camera broke after many years of good use.
Since then, I have purchased several new PowerShot cameras only to find that the sound quality of the videos from live shows is awful.  The sound is severely distorted by procession instruments (bass and drums).
Can anyone recommend an HD PowerShot camera whose audio for video of rock concerts is decent?  I don’t want a dedicated video camera.
Thanks much -- Denis

  • Audio for video

Instead of recording audio for video purposes at 48 KHz, how about recording at 44.1 instead and upsampling afterward?  Would it work?  Would it have disadvantages?

It may depend on whether you are recording separate audio to be laid onto video or sync sound recorded along with the video. Simplistically 48K is chosen because there is an integral number of audio samples per video frame, 1920 for PAL and 1600 for NTSC interlaced video and, of course, 2000 for film 24fps. So if you want to accurately lock your audio sample rate to video sync then it must be 48K.

  • Turn on audio for video received in an email

How do I turn on audio for video received in an email? My audio works in other situations, just not with an emailed clip.

These documents are opening in a window, correct? Along the top of it, assuming you are on Windows, there should be a bar with a title in it, just like most apps.
It sounds to me as if you are being send PDF files, not Word documents. Why are you sure they are Word documents. IGNORE THE WORD ICON, that would be part of the problem.

  • Can I defeat my DV Camera's audio for a line in?

    Thanks in advance.
I'm using a professional sound system and a Mini DV camera to record live acts. I want to use iMovie, but my (fairly cheap) video camera's audio has an auto level function that cannot be defeated. This makes running the audio through the camera unacceptible. I can't find a way to configure iMovie to record audio from the line in port instead of the firewire input from the camera.
    Can this be done? HELP!
    Thanks again,
    Doug Dye

"..how hard is it to link the audio and video in iMovie?.."
Easy; find a common starting point ..that's what the clap of a clapperboard was for.. ..such as a visible hit on cymbals, or just clap hands in front of a camera, then align that clap on the audio track with the sight of the same thing in the video track.
"..Do you have experience with that?.." ..Yes.
"..I'm just thinking that too many things can go wrong with the QuickTIme "New Movie Recording" feature.." ..Yes; the Mac may want to jot down quick "scartchpad" notes for itself, and may interrupt the QuickTime recording. How long can QuickTime record for before interrupting itself?

  • NO AUDIO FOR VIDEOS WHEN USING INTERNAL CAMERA

My Iphone 5 stopped recording sound when I switch cameras. Well, there is sound..an intense hissing and if I listen really hard I can make out a whisper of the recorded audio. Also no one can hear me when I use speaker phone during calls.
    Music plays fine on speakers.
Videos recorded on normal camera have perfectly clear audio.
There is no water or physical damaged. (checked water damage indicator and I take great care of my phone)
Ive tried factory reset and Turning off my phone.
Can someone please provide me with some insights?!

I am not blocking the microphones. I am well aware where the 3 microphones are located, and the sound isnt low..It's loud hissing feedback.

  • FCP export to camera only audio, not video...

Hello - I'm trying to export my project to miniDV, something I've done for a long time w/no problem.  But now, even when I try to view the footage on my camera, only the audio come up.  The video freezes on one frame, but the audio plays, and then when I go to play it again, it freezes at the frame I stopped it at.  Then when trying to Print to Video, only the audio comes up, but not the video.  Thank you.

Hello - it is actually a combination of HD & SD to standard mini DV... But I actually put it in another sequence, and it all seemed to work!

  • Front facing camera not working for video chat on Revolution

How come the front facing camera doesn't work on Tango? I wanted a new phone with FFC to use on Tango and for when Skype goes video on phones and it seems it don't work on Tango. Is it just Revolution or is it the same on all phones? I don't need a FFC phone to take pics of myself I have had no problem doing that on other phones, would love the feature to do what it is supposed too.

    Hi bulldog69!
To answer your question, some of those video chat applications have additional 'plug-ins' that need to be downloaded from the Market as well. Just search for "tango" in the Market and see if anything pulls up. If this is not the case, try to uninstall and re-install the application from the Market.  I recommend trying another video chat app to see if that works as well. If you can take photos and video with the FFC, there's no issue with the device.
Hope that helps! Keep us posted.
    Thank you!
Well we have two Revolutions and i tried the uninstall and reinstall and no good. Couldn't find any plug ins.
What other video chat apps do you know of that might work? Tried Fring and tha was junk. Thanks for any of your help that you give me

  • Baffled - routing audio for videos.

Hello folks, could not deceide the right forum for this, so here it is.
I want to record videos of myself playing guitar, along with a Song playing in iTunes/Guitar Pro (midi program). Now. I want a program/way of recording from my isight the video, but for the audio get the input(my guitar) and what is coming out of my speakers (the song). doing this would stop me from having to record the video, then sync it with the midi backing etc etc - very tedious. I am connecting using a MOTU device, to which my guitar is plugged in, and my speakers are plugged into the MOTU. Anyone have any idea how to do this? I can get a video with the audio just being the guitar, but no luck with both.....
Cheers, sorry if it does not make sense!

    Hi,
for the Audio-'Mixing' I would suggest to have alook at Audio HiJack Pro: http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijack/
since it can record from different sources at sametime.
But for the combining with/recording of Video I am at lost.

  • Rotate the front camera in Android for video chat app

    Hi,
I developing a video chat app on Android with Adobe AIR 3.6 beta.
I currently using the Camera, Microsphone and Video classes. I panning to use StageVideo next
I understand fully that Adobe has stated that when using the Camera do it in Landscape mode.
Problem is my compnay wants it in Portrait mode only and is not interested in landscape video chatting app at all!
I can do this in native Java code with 6 lines of code by rotateing the camera,
but it seems impossible on Adobe Air mobile.
    What I tried
    a) Rotate the display object contain the video which has my camera attached
Result: It works! It only solves half my problem as the video is still being transmitted  in landscape mode
    b) Using Matrix and transform
Result. Does not work correctly and does not help as the video is still being transmitted in landscape mode
    What I am considering
    a) Build an ActionScript Extension that calls native java code that rotates the camera
    Boy is this really nessscary?
    b) Create another Netstream and copy the video stream contains the landscape vidoe feed into an bytearray and then
transpose the array and feed it into a newly created Portrit video feed!
    Is this evan technically possible?
I understand peope will say that just accept landscape but that not an option right now
Any hep is greatly appreciated. I cannot be the first engineer that wants a Portriat locked video chatting appp on Android using Adobe AIR

I ran into this very same problem building a video conf app that could rotate in any direction on the device.
I ended up doing what you tried for A, but took it a little further. I injected information into the stream I was sending so I would know what to do on the other side.... information including not only the oriention of the video, but orientation of the device as well as the Microphone activity level. (because i needed to know everyones mic levels on all devices).
Yes this is a workaround but at least it's a solution.
    something like this....
    netsream.send("onActivity", {micActivity:this._microphone.activityLevel});

  • Best AF practice for video

I'm using a EOS 7D for shooting 1080p HD video. New to the camera and DSLR for video. I've looked at several tutorials but still don't have a good understanding of what the best practices are for focusing.
If I put the camera in AI Servo will it auto focus if the subject moves away or toward me with out me depressing the back AF-ON or shutter button? Or must I press one of those buttons to make the camera continue focus?
Do you know of any tutorials or video teachings that go through using focus with video?
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The 7D is not going to perform continuous auto-focus in video.  AI Servo mode is for still photography.  The 70D _will_ perform continuous auto-focus during video and does an outstanding job of it (due to it's ability to do phase-detect AF directly on the camera sensor.)
Every camera *other* than the 70D (including all other brands -- the 70D is unique right now) have to do "contrast detect" auto-focus.  Contrast detect has to analyze contrast differences between adjacent pixels, make an adjustment and then evaluate if the contrast increased or decreated.  That tells the camera if it's even focusing in the right direction... then it has to re-focus, re-evaluate, re-focus, re-evaluate... until it finally optimizes contast and that means the image is finally focused.  This results in a game of "focus hunt".  It's slower and anyone watcing the video will see the camera hunt for focus.
The better way is to manually focus the camera.  If you were making a more serious video you'd even pre-plan the focus changes -- and wrap a piece of tape around the focus ring and use a marker to place the focus points on the ring (you pre-focus the camera to each position you plan to use during that clip).  Having done this you can smoothly move focus from subject to subject just by looking at the marks you made on your focus ring.  This isn't going to help you in ad-hoc video clips -- it's what you'd do if you were thinking about film-making.
The 7D will re-focus if you press the AF-ON button... but it will focus hunt when it does this.

  • Adobe Audition for Video Editors webinar recording online

    Hi everyone,
Last week, Audition sponsored a screencast hosted by Kanen Flowers covering his workflows for editing audio for video projects.  The recording of the event is online at http://seminars.adobeconnect.com/p58yg03mkgg/
We had a great turnout, and if people find these valuable, we'll try to schedule more of them addressing different editing topics.
    Have a great day,
    Durin

I was interested enough to sign up for the real-time webinar. I want my hour back.
Based on its biling, I expected it to deal a fair amount with dialog editing, but it just touched on the subject and most of that was about trying to fix dialog from a Skype connection -- something of little interest to the vast majority of videographers.
The structure was just a ramble; it seemed to me that Kenan did little to prepare. It was more an ad for Kenan and his show than it was useful for videographers trying to learn how to use Audition. But maybe that was just me; YMMV.
I should add that I've watched several other Abobe webinars. Most were good solid useful information. The bar is set fairly high, which is probably why I was dissapointed in this one.

  • Lumia 920 WP8.1 upgrade issues: no audio on video ...

    Hi,
I installed the Cyan/WP8.1 update on my Lumia 920 when it was made available to US AT&T customers last week.
After installing the update I've lost the ability to record audio with my video recordings and Cortana can't hear anything I say.
    Details:
    OS Version: 8.10.12393.890
    Firmware revision number: 3051.50009.1425.2001
    Radio software version: 1.0.202184.3
    Chip SOC version: 8960
Audio for phone calls works fine. Audio for video recordings was working right up until I upgraded.
I've performed a hard reset and used Nokia's Software Recovery Tool. Neither restored audio functions.
    Does anyone have any advice?
    Thanks,
    Mark

hi mate if u have used NSRT and performed a hard reset there is probably nothnig u can do except to take your phone to Nokia Care or AT&T now. sorry mate.

  • Canon powershot sx500 shooting video at a concert. The audio is overmodulating

Hello  I have been using the Powershot sx500.  Love it for stills.   Tried shooting video at a concert.  The audio was overmodulating.   Can the volume on the camera be lowered?  What do you suggest?
    Thank you

    Hi dawnbelotti!
Thank you for posting.  The PowerShot SX500 IS is a great camera for still shooting and most video shooting conditions that do not involve very high volume levels.  However, you may not get the greatest audio quality when recording a concert, which can have high volume levels.  There is not an adjustment setting in the camera for the input level of the microphone on the camera, so it is difficult to compensate for such a high volume level.

  • Airport Express as wifi audio for ip camera?

Hello all. I have a question regarding Airport Express's audio transmitting capabilities. First, I recently purchased an Airport Express to expand the wifi range in my new house. The house is one floor, and my Linksys N router is located on the other side of the house from my bedroom. The signal from the Linksys is spotty at best in the bedroom, so I have the Airport Express connected via CAT5 in bridge mode in my bedroom. The signal is great and everything has worked fine so far with that setup.
The reason that I needed wifi stronger in the bedroom is that we have 2 IP cameras that we use as baby monitors for our toddler and newborn. We have a Trendnet system, which includes a 7" wifi monitor that displays multiple Trendnet cameras connected to your network simultaneously. That all works great as well, with only one drawback. The monitor does not support audio from the 2 IP cameras at all. So I get video but no audio, and the audio is important when using them as baby monitors.
The IP cameras are audio capable, and you can actually hear the audio when you access the cameras from your computer. The only problem is that we have a desktop at home and no laptop (although I recently purchased an iPad, but all IP camera apps that I seen so far have the same lack of audio issue). The IP cameras also have a 3.5 mm output jack on them, so you can hook up speakers to them to extract the sound that way.
My question is this...if I purchased a 2nd Airport Express, is there a way that I could connect the audio output to an AE (through the 3.5 mm jacks) by the baby's camera, and then have the audio wirelessly transmitted to the AE in our bedroom (hooking up a small set of speakers to the AE in the bedroom as the output for the audio)?
I'm very new to the Airport Express world, so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

Sorry, but no. The audio port on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is an audio OUTPUT port, not an input port ... so connecting the output audio from the camera via this port won't work. The AX's audio is dependent on receiving an AirTunes (or ROAP protocol) stream over IP ... typically from iTunes (or as Jolly has pointed out via a third-party solution like Airfoil).
