HD SDI capture... no audio via HD SDI or XLR

Can't seems to get audio levels to capture on HD SDI or my xlr inputs via blackmagic hd extreme.
Using a canon xl h1. Any ideas as to how I get get sound as well as video?

You need the device which i have. The convergent design SI connect. Works great! Hook up the firewire (4pin to 4pin) from the box to the camera, then the RS 422 from the device to your BlackMagic, then the HD SDI out of your device into the BlackMagic.

  • Capturing digital audio

i need to be able to capture digital audio via my m-audio delta 2496; audio only no pic obviously; mostly without TC but sometimes with.
FCP is pretty poor at dealing with this sort of thing but it used to manage ... now in FCP 5 it is broken; waited a while for new drivers from m-audio but they are now installed and do not help.
wondering if anyone else out there uses other software to capture digital audio with and without TC ....
    R.

    hello X,
thanks for the offering but i was looking for someone with experience ...
fwiw, my experience with final cut and audio-only/TC sources is that it is unreliable at best.
perhaps you could be more detailed (if you have experience with this), i don't see how providing a video source will allow capture of DAT TC, for instance; and Soundtrack Pro (which certainly falls into the category of "any audio editing software") sees the M-Audio card but gives me errors when i try to access it. last i recall, however, Soundtrack Pro was only able to capture mono audio, and no TC, and therefor is pretty useless right now.
without TC seems like i my copy of ableton will work; with TC, i'm still looking for someone who has experience problem solving FCP 5 (since there were work arounds in FCP 4) or other ideas for software.
    thanks.
    R.

  • Cannot Capture Audio via AJA IoHD

I suddenly cannot capture audio via my AJA IoHD. I am using a JVC ProHD deck which connects through SDI to the IoHD and then into the Mac via FW800.
The system audio is routed to the IoHD. FCP AJA IoHD 720p 59.94 Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) easy setup is selected. Capture Clip Settings are set to capture 8 channels of audio, 48Khz 24 Bit.
I've got to be missing something. Previously captured clips have audio and playback no problem. I can see it in the meters.
Now when capturing I can hear the audio but nothing registers on the meters and once captured there is no audio on the clip.
I cannot think of what I am missing. I've been racking my brain and pounding my fists for hours. (That hasn't worked either)
    Any ideas?

Yes... forgot to mention that the audio box is checked in the log clip settings pane. It behaves as if it isn't though.
I just called Apple support and they were decidedly unhelpful.

  • Premiere Elements and SDI Capture?

Hi - I'm a Premiere Pro user but a customer is setting up a retail video capture situation that will be operated by non-video folks. The customer wants to use a Canon XA-25 to stream video via SDI capture to a computer. Will Premiere Elements do that?

    Rich Hall Reps
As far as I can tell Canon XA-25 is not a mini DV or HDV camcorder with an iLink for DV or HDV data capture firewire into a Premiere Elements capture window. In that regard, Adobe has removed that feature from its latest version 13/13.1. Premiere Elements 12/12.1 is the last version to have this feature which has a classical history of working only with a firewire connection. In Premiere Elements 13/13.1, Add Media will not include DV Camcorder or HDV Camcorder. The surviver is Webcam or WDM with description "Capture video from webcam or other WDM compatible device".
But, my interpretation of what you are seeking is not DV or HDV capture firewire, but rather live streaming of uncompressed video from the Canon XA-25 using the Canon SDI Output

The following Adobe document was pointed to 3 months ago by a staff member responding to a user question on Live Video Streaming using Premiere Elements.
Premiere Elements: How do capture live / streaming video?
The link pointed to does not appear to be updated for 13/13.1 which was released September 24, 2014.

Based on the above, I am not sure if the Canon output can be made to work with the Add Media/Webcam or WDM choice with the Canon being recognized in the Capturing Source field of the Webcam or WDM Capture Window. Do you have any version of Premiere Elements to explore this possibility?

  • SDI capturing

I own a powerbook but will be getting a powermac. I want to buy an SDI capture card to use with the powerbook, so I can go see clients and capture the footage (HD, DVCPRO, etc.) there.
Can anyone recommend an SDI card? Is it realistic to be able use one with the powerbook, or do I need one for apowermac? Are there certain cards that work better with FCP than others?
    Thanks,
    Nathan

Three manufacturers make SDI capture cards for the Mac:
    http://www.auroravideosys.com
    www.decklink.com
    www.AJA.com
All work well. BUT...the only one that will work with the Powerbook is the AJA I/O. It captures SDI and sends it down a firewire connection. The thing is that you'll need TWO firewire ports, so you will need to get a PCMCIA firewire card...preferrably a firewire 800 port, as the only drives that will handle uncompressed 8-bit (and one stream of uncompressed 10-bit) are firewire 800 hardware raided drives, like the G-Raid.

  • SDI capture to QT

I've been experiencing Serious Audio sync problems when capturing embedded audio to Quicktime files. There is black flashing so could have been a feed problem, but then the audio slips out. 85 frames at one point. I'm using a Decklink Duo in Magma Express Thunderbolt and Softron Movierecorder Pro.
This a real showstopper any ideas?
    John

But before I just "fork over the dough", any other apps I should be looking at ?
Here is a List of Screen Capture Applications posted by David Brewer yesterday. I have no personal knowledge regarding any of them as I use Snapz Pro X 2 as a full featured screen, object, area, motion, and audio capture utility which was well worth the investment.

  • Footage captured without audio

I'm hoping someone might be able to enlighten me with possible causes of the following issue.
I've been capturing Digi Beta via Kona LH onto an internal drive (not the system drive) as Apple Pro Res HQ PAL. Even thought 2 stereo tracks have been captured, there is no audio on them, but there is audio on the tape.
The same computer has captured to an external FW800 drive without any issues using the same capture settings, also the same since when capturing direct to Fibre optic SAN. Unfortunately due to a crashing problem, I've clean installed Final Cut on the system again so I can't trace much info.
Any thoughts or advice on would could have occurred would be appreciated.
Specs- Intel Quad Core Mac Pro OSX 10.5.8, running Final Cut Pro 6.0.4.

What is your video connection from DigiBeta to the Kona?
    SDI or Component?
What is your audio connection from DigiBeta to the Kona?
AES/EBU or Analog or are trying to embed it in the SDI?
Check you AJA control panel to verify where it thinks the audio should come from.
If the source is embedded audio in SDI, make sure the deck is set to send out audio on the SDI cable.
If you did capture audio, you should see levels bouncing on your FCP audio level meter and make sure they show a waveform in the viewer window.

  • Simultaneous import of video via firewire and audio via in-line audio port

I have a converter that takes the S-video and audio input from my DVR then converts both to DV format, and then outputs via firewire. I hook the firewire up to my G5, open iMovieHD, and the application recognizes that as a camera and imports wonderfully.
Well, the audio comes through with a MAJOR buzz or hum. It's probably the converter, but the buzz/hum is not enjoyable.
So, I removed the audio from the converter, and the video converts wonderfully in iMovie without the audio. I have the audio coming in through my audio line-in.
I start to import my video, and iMovie starts recording the video. But I want to record the line-in audio at the same time. But when I switch to audio to turn on the input from the line-in, the video stops capturing.
When I start to capture audio first, then switch to capture video, then the audio stops capturing.
Is there any way that I can capture the video via firewire for one "track", and my line-in audio for the other "track", and have them play simultaneously in iMovie during capture??
Any help would be appreciated. thanks Adam

    hey there badkitty 42,
i don't think you can do that. it sounds like your issue is electrical. try turning the plug around on each piece of gear in the chain & listen for the buzz. if it's not heard you've found the cause of your ground loop. you can also pick up some of the 3-prong orange or grey electrical adapters from Lowe's or Home Depot to see if you can "lift the ground" to get rid of the buzz. i'd try one on the convertor 1st. one last thing, do you have any flourescent lights in use on the same circuit or in proximity to where you're doing your transcoding? these are notorious for inducing 60Hz hum in audio & video gear.
    good luck.

  • Capturing 4 Audio Channels - HDV???

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it is NOT possible to capture 4 audio channels all at once in FCP?
If this is this case, how do you go back and capture in another pass? Right now I can only capture the two channels that go along with the onboard mic, and not the channels that go with the XLR audio (in this case a Lav Mic.)
I've tried to create a new capture preset, but it doesn't seem to work w/HDV.
Should I try capturing the audio in a second pass using standard def? Would that work?
Any thoughts would greattttttttttttly be appreciated.
    Thanks!

As Thomas suggested in that thread, "Capturing Multiple Audio Channels", in chapter 20 of the the FCP User Manual is a great resource. But I'll break it down for you anyways...
Here's how I capture 4-tracks of audio via Firewire with Final Cut Pro:
    Go to -
Final Cut Pro Menu/Audio/Video Settings.../Capture Presets Tab
Create two capture presets (1 set for the first two channels, the 2nd set for the last two channels and maybe one for all 4 channels mixed if you'd like)
Select a Capture Preset and choose Edit then set which channels you'd like the preset to capture inside the Quicktime Audio Settings section of the Capture Preset Editor window. Make sure your device is plugged in and turned on or else the option will be greyed-out.
Open the Log and Capture window in the Capture Settings tab and select which Capture Preset you'd like to use depending of which audio channels you'd like to capture.
To make sure you're caturing 4-channels on your camera:
    Go To-
    Menu/Audio Setup/Audio Mode/ 12bit 1/2 , 3/4
Throw the phones on and monitor the channels using the Audio Monitor button on the side of the camera. You can switch between monitoring the first 2, the second two, or all four channels at once. Remember if the camera is set to record 4 channels then it'll record 4 channels no matter what channels you're monitoring.

  • I need to capture streaming audio and save to a wav file

I need to be able to capture an audio stream delivered via ethernet using UDP protocol and then save to a wav file.
I currently can capture the data stream but do not know how to format the data to save it to a file. Our format is 16KS/s, 16bit, PCM, no compression.

Did you do the thing about searching in the example database. Let us use that as base for discussion. Those who put in some effort will be rewarded. Also check out the AU file format http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Au_file_format As it is big-endian http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big-endian the numbers can be stored as is in Labview. Must players, matlab, etc can use the AU file format.
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted
(Sorry no Labview "brag list" so far)

  • Unable to capture 2 audio tracks

FCP refuses to capture 2 audio channels?! I have one mic on channel 1 and another mic on channel 2 but FCP captures only 1 mono track eventhough in Clip Setting both channel 1 and 2 are selected. Does anybody know what could be wrong?
Another thing is that when I have captured a clip - it won´t appear automatically in the Browser as it always has done? Now I need to import the Clip from my Project folder. FCP going crazy.

A 2009 MBP does not support audio via the minidisplay port.  For audio you will have to tap the audio output port and use RCA connectors to the audio inputs on the TV.

  • Captivate 7 is not capturing system audio, and the software has a broken link

    The Problem:
Captivate 7 is not capturing system audio. When I start a screen recording, the line with "System Audio" and its checkbox are eternally grayed out. Next to the grayed out words is a link that says, "Why is this disabled?"
    The lnik goes to:  http://www.adobe.com/go/cpaudio
Which is not a valid link, so Adobe's site redirects me to blogs.adoble.com/captivate which is ZERO help. Both browsing and the search bar bring no answers.
    The Device:
Apple Macbook Air, Mid 2013, running OSX 10.9.2.
    What I've done already:
Obvsiously I have set Captivate 7's preferences to capture system audio, and have set System Settings -> Security and Privacy -> Privacy -> Accessibility to allow Captivate to control my computer.
I have also tried clicking the Mic icon, Selecting Source with the System Audio icon and that doesn't record system audio either. It acts like it is recording system audio, but when I stop recording I get a popup that says, "Cannot record system audio. Ensure that you are playing audio on your computer [Okay]"

    It's a wierd one.
One thing to try, and this fixes a lot of things, trash your preferences.

  • Is there a way to play video through HDMI and have the audio via the headphone socket?

I would like to be able to play movies through the HDMI adapter to a projector, but to have the audio via the headphone socket to a separate audio system.  What I find is that as soon as I connect the projector via HDMI, the audio via the headphone sockeet is cut off.  Any ideas?

Yes, there is a very simple way to get audio out through the iPad headphone jack even while connected to HDMI to play movies on a projector or TV.  In fact, I just did it last night for a presentation.
With the HDMI adapter connected to the projector and your audio jack plugged into your iPad headphone jack, go ahead and start the movie. Then simply unplug the headphone jack and plug it back in.  The audio is now routed through the headphone jack again.
I found I only had to do this once per session.  That is, Iwas able to stop the movie, go to the beginning of my presentation, wait the 20 minutes for the meeting to begin, and when I got to the video clip the audio still played out through the headphone jack to the PA system.
I had built a presentation in a Web oriented training tool and it was running on Safari iOS7 with the latest update.  I have not tried it with Keynote yet.

  • Can MacBook Pro output digital audio via usb?

I'd like to output digital audio via usb. Can it be done from iTunes? This would allow me to go directly to my dac and then to my preamp.
    Thanks.

Russell, there are quite a variety of devices that accept digital audio over USB from any mac with a USB port - see http://www.trendsaudio.com/EN/Product/USBAudiodesc.htm for one example.
Try a google on MAC USB Audio OUTPUT any you should pop up some useful options.
