HD-SDI external monitoring support for PrP 5.5

For the moment I am  working in Adobe sequences, but hoping that  external monitoring issues (i.e., playback, rendering of AE dynamic links ,etc.) are resolved one way (third party) or the other  (Adobe).
This issues will eventually (some are already looking to Avid for  alternatives) piss off some of the higher end users (facilities,  boutiques) that Adobe doesnt want to lose.
Adobe, I know your plate is very full, but this one could have tragic consequences on your new found popularity.

I know there is support for external monitoring, it just is very bad at this point. This forum and others contain numerous such reports.  I have been in touch with Adobe and the vendor of the product I used with FCP and now with current drivers for PrP. This is why I have switched to editing with Adobe sequences. Due to the issues stated in the previous posting. I have send in bug reports ad infinitum. I spent lots of phone time with good supportive technical folks.
This post is more editorial in nature then anything else. I really like the Adobe Production Studio and I want to see it succeed and flourish.

  • External Monitor Options for iMac?

I have an iMac and have been using a lot with my 7D files. They look great, but I would like to have an external monitor output. Any ideas on output modules for iMac? Thanks!

is if there is a Firewire out that can send my Color display out to my Trinitron monitor, like FCP
No, absolutely not. COLOR does not support FireWire output. The developer intended the application to be used with a PCIe Video I/O interface, (Kona, for example, as opposed to GPU) supporting HD-SDI output, and the fixed output gamma characteristic of 2.2 was assigned as default to support that.
*All other approaches* are considered to be +ad hoc+ substitutes and are +de facto+ "as is". The policy should be read as -- "we made it one way which functions very precisely; if you want something else, that's your business"... but for a very large number of non-broadcast content producers, that's fine. It doesn't matter if its technically "wrong", as long as there is a result, not to imply that no one cares about the products they are generating -- but there are obviously some very large knowledge gaps in the consuming population in this area.
That's my possibly cynical interpretation of the history and situation...

  • IMac Retina - External Monitor support

Does anyone know where I might find some information about support for an additional monitor for the new iMac Retina?  I currently have a 32" Dell 4K monitor, will I be able to utilize it?
    Thanks
    Ralf

I would start by looking at the system specifications for the new machine, typically they outline the external display resolutions available. I haven't looked, the new machine just became available today so you may need to wait a few days to see if the system specification are available on Apple's website.  That should provide some clues.
If you cannot wait you can always call Apple's online store and inquire, if they don't know request that the question be escalated.

  • Good external monitor recommendations for T61?

I need a good external monitor for my T61, the bigger the better. I would prefer to keep the branding the same with Lenovo. Does anyone have any advice? Should I go with another manufacturer? The Apple displays are really cool. Does Lenovo make anything similar?
    Thanks in advance.

  • MBP External Monitor Support

If I don't want to use the Macbook Pro's display panel, is there any way that I can use dual external monitors, and extend the screen over both of them?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

You can edit posts for ~15 minutes after they are first submitted, using the edit button () above and to the right side of your post. Also, you may want to add your new machine to your signature (click on My Settings at the right of the page).
To your original point, you can drive two external displays but only with additional hardware, i.e. a graphics expansion module and the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter (the $99 one).

  • External monitor options For Macbook Pro(2011)

Just curious as to what my monitor options are as a external monitor for the Macbook Pro.  I'm pretty much set on 27'' thunderbolt display but its a hefty price to swallow...
Best buy has some good deals on there 27'' monitor but can i get the same resolution and clarity from other brands that will be eqivalent to Apple?
I'd like to stay in the 27'' to 30'' size...
    thanks

Any other options like Samsung, LG etc... that offer the same specs as the thunderbolt display?
    Thanks

  • Use G5 iMac as external monitor/display for Intel iMac?

I have a 24" Intel iMac and a 20" G5 iMac (which is sort of mothballed now).I was wondering if it is possible to use the older iMac as an external monitor, mainly to save the expense of buying a "proper" external display when there seems to be a perfectly usable one sitting there in the G5 iMac.

    translate.google.com.
Actually, it didn't translate very well. But the instructions are basically how to wire up an adapter cable. The G5 iMac appears to use standard DVI signals, so you just need to make a DVI cable to plug in to the internal connector. The table between pages 7 and 8 is what you want. If you've used a soldering iron around electronic devices before, that table is pretty much all you need. The picture of the backside on page 9 is neat. Using the ethernet connector hole to route the wiring. Almost looks like it came from the factory that way.

  • 5.02 Update - still half-hearted external monitor support

How disappointing to find that the whole external monitor preview issue has not been addressed.  It's one of those things that wasn't broken until the release of CS3 (?) and it's never worked since.
With CS5, the MPE forces yet another choice - to use MPE without any external monitor - or use the external monitor without MPE playback.  Even with MPE disabled, you can only monitor audio through the external device  - unless, that is, you are prepared to look at a frozen Program Monoitor.
Come on Adobe - many professional editors still need that external CRT/LCD monitor.  Please get it sorted.

Which is my point precisely - one PC monitor plus one external monitor is not a standard production rig and not how I want to work.  Industry standard is 2 + 1  - which I was happily using from the late 90s until Adobe broke it with CS3.
I'm of the old school that I want an external CRT reference monitor so I can perform colour correction more accurately and also check the interlaced output.  Using a 2nd LCD monitor as reference does not achieve this (apart from limiting my workplace to a single monitor).
I'm surprised that more people aren't as up-in-arms about this failing of Adobe as I.  It's this failure to correct the problem that is preventing PP from becoming a fully spec'd professional editing system.

  • Compaq nw8240 external monitor driver for window 7

I upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and I can no longer use my extenal monitor.  Does anyone know what driver I should download for my Compaq NW8240.  Thanks for your help in advance

    Hi:
You need to manually install the Vista graphics driver as follows...
    http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdDetails/?sp4ts.oid=462858&spf...
Download and run the above driver.   You will probably get an unsupported operating system error.
Close out of any error windows.  Go to the device manager.  Click to expand the Display Adapters category.
Click on the Standard VGA Adapter.  Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software method, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.
The folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp34716.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.
After you reboot hopefully, the graphics should be working just fine.

  • External monitor/display for a 2012 MacBook Pro?

I want to know if I can connect an Acer S201HL to a 2012 MacBook Pro i7 2.9GHz 8GB memory OSX10.8.1 - I will be using a magic mouse and apple wireless keyboard as well - if this setup will work what specific cables and adapters do I need to get? If at all possible I would consider running 2 displays. also running Parralells with Windows 7 Home Premium.

With athundebolt diplay there might be some info here that might help.

If you have a mini DVI port you would need a moni DVI to VGA adapter, and a VGA cable

  • External monitor for emac

I have a G4, 1.25Ghz eMac, bought in October of 2004. I also have a G4, 1.5 Ghz 12" PowerBook, bought in February 2006. Both are happily running Tiger. Is there an external monitor that I can buy that would be usable on both? (not at the same time, obviously!)
    Thanks.
    eMac, PB G4 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Laurel,
Your Powerbook certainly will and an eMac will run an external monitor too. There may be limitations such as your present computer screen resolutions.
You will likely require a VGA connector available from Apple if no such device came with your computers.
For more information the easiest is to search discussions with "external monitor support" you will find lots of useful links to previous discussion threads for eMac and G4 Powerbooks.

  • With YP2 I cannot listen to music when connected to an external monitor

I am using the hdmi connection for my external monitor and when connected I cannot get any sound from my YP2. It works just fine when connected to a TV so I am assuming the sound signal has to be amplfied by the tv or receiver. A monitor typically does not have any sound amplification, I think, so my guess is this is the problem. I was hoping I could at least listen to music when earphones are plugged in, but I can't.
Another minor problem I have using the YP2 connected to my monitor is I cannot get the full resolution of the monitor, I will update this thread with the actual montior (it is an Asus 27" professional grade monitor with something like  2500x1600 resolution, I cannot remember the actual numbers) model number. The best I can get with the YP2 is around 2000x1200.
    Gary

I spent quite a bit of time with Lenovo support. They got on my computer remotely, replaced the display driver, and still the same problem. It appears the problem is the resolution can only be adjusted by increments. The highest was 3200x1800 and the next lowest was 2000x1500 and then 2000x1000 (I am rounding the last two). So the computer resolution defaults to the 2000x1000 resolution when hooked up to the external monitor.
For all practical purposes this is fine. I rarely have to do any photo editing that is that critical and if I need the higher resolution I can edit with my desktop.

  • NB520 - Multiple monitor support

Do NB520 have multiple monitor support built in, if not, how can I have multiple monitor support for my NB520? I need for using a Pewerpoint 2007 (to display presenter view differs from audience view).
Many thanks for an answer in advance.

    Hi smit_Aood,
The NB520 supports one external monitor and you can use internal + external monitor at the same time (two monitors are supported). Furthermore you can choose if you want to extend the desktop on second monitor or clone it.
Using FN+F5 key combination you can switch between different modes.
Last but not least you can also use a Beamer or TV as second monitor. A certain computer monitor is not required. ;)

  • T520 External Monitor/Laptop Screen issue

    Hello,
I have a T520 with a docking station.  There is an external monitor connected to the VGA port in the docking station and I have the laptop set to only use the external monitor.  However, when I close the screen of the laptop and put the laptop to sleep, and then when I open the laptop again, the laptop monitor turns on and mirrors on the external.  So basically, I need to set it to only use the external every time the laptop starts up.
Is there any fix to keep the laptop screen off while it is docked?
    Thanks.

    Hmmmm,
Many docked users only use and external monitor. For those not sleeping while docked is the typically setting.
there is the Fn F7 or F8, can't tell which to toggle  displays. However, there should be a when docked configuration profile. Have you tried Lenovo support on this as to where it is. It should follow those setting each time it senses its docked.
