HD space disapearing quickly.. but can't figure out why

I have had this MBP for about two months. And even though I have put a few small programs on it(plus Call of Duty 2), I have also deleted certain things such as the Office Trial, and numerous other programs. I have even put a good chunk of my iTunes vidoes, onto cd-r's.
My problem is.. is that my hard drive has shrunk down to 36.7 Gigs. And that was after I went through and deleted more apps/etc. Im not an idiot.. hehe, but I know there has to be something hidden that I'm missing. Any ideas?

The beauty of an Archive and Install is that it will keep everything intact except what you choose to not install when you choose Customize. You will insert your install disk #1, and restart. Then you go through the prompts to re-install. Look for the Options tab, where you will choose Archive and Install.
There is a check box that is checked by default to choose to save all your data. Then in the next window, you will see the Customize tab. Click on that and choose the items to install. I uncheck all the boxes, except I pick the applications I want installed. I also have a driver disk for my printer, but if you don't you can choose to install the specific brand drivers for your printer.
After this is complete, run Software Update in System Preferences, to bring the OS up to date. Lastly you should Repair Permissions, located in Applications-Utilities-Disk Utility. After all of this you will have a folder Previous System Folder located on your HD. Once you determined all is running good, you can delete it.
Once you do this, then you have learned how to reinstall, if you ever have to do it again in the future. You also know exactly what is installed. Then you can check your disk space, and know that you don't have space wasted, by un-needed stuff.

The solutions on here did not work for me.   I tried.....
I have the same problem with a BRAND NEW iPhone 5c version 7.1- no sound when a text message arrives.
(1) I have "do not disturb" scheduled correctly.   No partial moon on the main screen near the time and battery indicator.
(2) I have the ringer icon correct with no slash.    Yes I turned the hardward mute switch to the UP position (ie the one above the + and - buttons on the left side.   I tried messaging with the bell as shown and bell with a slash and neither work.   The mute switch is not red (switch above the + volume hardware switch)     I enabled some assistant using the Settings menu.    And I press the dot (looks like a target symbol) and go to Devices and I can see what position the bell is in....either a bell with a slash or no slash.
(3) Yes ringtones are configured for text and other. I can hear them when I am under settings > sounds.   But they do not link with the actual hardware.
(4) I rebooted the iPhone 5c by using the button at top, slide the red bar, then pressed it again, apple came up for a minute and it seemed to be back up.
(5) I upgraded the IPhone 5c from 7.0.4 to 7.1 using my pc and itunes.   And the upgrade was successful but did not fix the text issue.
(6) I do not have it in airplane mode or silent mode.
(7) I reset all settings using Setttings > General > reset > reset all settings . this wipes settings but not data and media.
This is really frustrating.

Triggered the beach ball but can't figure out why

For most of what I do 10.0.3 works reasonably well. From what I've learned here I know to use Event Manager X and Preference Manager. I only open the event(s) and project I need and have generally managed to avoid hanging the system. I've found title rendering brings FCPX to its knees so I only do titles when I've got lots of time.
Yesterday I was working on a relatively short project. It's about 6 minutes long, has very few titles and only 3 or 4 cross dissolves. I was fine tuning a number of edit points to match the beat of the soundtrack. This involved adding markers and then moving the edit point as appropriate. For the first 50 or so edits this worked easily and quickly. There was no background rendering or anything else I could see interfereing with the activity. Then suddenly on one edit the beachball showed up and FCPX wouldn't respond. After ~15 minutes the beachball was still spinning and FCPX was still locked up. Did a force quit, restarted and went back to assess the damage. All my changes were ok except for the one that hung the program. Redid it and all was fine.
So my question is can anyone speculate what triggered this? If I'm doing something that causes this I want to understand so I can work around it or aviod it next time. Work arounds to evade bugs seem to be part of using FCPX at this stage.

The changes have brought improvements but also drawbacks compared with the old slideshow editor.
The templates are now fairly fixed but I find the “Classic Dark” gives reasonable results with some panning and you can click the audio button and browse you PC for any track. Unfortunately there are only three speed choices linked to the music track. The improvement for most people is that you can now export to your hard drive at 720p or 1080p and upload to sites like YouTube and Vimeo.

any help would make me happy. As it stands now from looking on the web it can't be deleted but making sure before i return this ipod touch. I wan't a clean item the way I wan't it and not how they want it. I do the following: Hold down the command key and highlight all the items to be reproduced. Then hold down option and drag the items from the first to each subsequent card.

I can't figure out why this page splits in live preview... but not in the browser?

Sounds to me like you've almost cracked it!
You have one error that could cause problems and that's the stray </blockquote> tag. Just delete it.
The alt="" text will show as an error on the validator but that's easy to fix and worth doing.

It looks like you have that rule repeated further down the page like this:
html { overflow-y: scroll; }
There's an extra curly brace there (}) anyway, so it is badly formed but the whole rule and extra curly brace can go.
You can fix those errors but I have a sneaky suspicion that it isn't gong to solve the issue you describe.
Fix those issues anyway and post back. Maybe if you can show a screen shot of what you are seeing in DW it might help?

PS: It's never a good idea to have file names on the web that have spaces in. Your background rule has this:
background-image: url(../images/orange%20plaid.jpg);
That .jpg should be orangeplaid.jpg or orangePlaid.jpg or orange_plaid.jpg and the change should be reflected in the reference to the image so, orangePlaid.jpg should be:
background-image: url(../images/orangePlaid.jpg);

You can use iCloud:
Step 1. Log into www.icloud.com using your Apple ID.
Step 2. Click on Contacts and then click the groups ribbon (the red icon with two people) which is on the left-hand page when viewing All Contacts.
Step 3. The left page changes to a list of Groups (only those groups stored in iCloud are shown). Click the + button at the bottom to add a new group.
Step 4. Type a name for the new group and press Enter to save it. To change it after this, double-click its entry in the groups list.
Step 5. To add contacts to the new group, click on the All Contacts group and locate the first person to be added (you can use the search bar to find them quickly).
Step 6. Drag their name on top of the new group and drop it to add it to that group.
Step 7. To add more contacts, repeat steps 5 and 6, but you can add multiple contacts at once by pressing Ctrl (on a PC) or Command (on a Mac) and clicking on each contact in the list that you wish to select. Then, drag one of the highlighted names to the new group and they will all be added.
It's possible to add names to more than one group, and you can create as many groups as you like.
Step 8. Launch the Contacts app on your device (iPhone, iPod touch or iPad) and you should see the new group appear almost immediately - as long as you have an internet connection.
Until Apple builds in a function to create groups directly within the Contacts app, this is the best way to do it.

thank you-i have to check into the authorization and the account-i gave my husband my old ipod when i updated last year so both at one time have been on this computer but as it stands, it only comes up with my device when i plug into Itunes.
i don't think i have any restrictions for installing apps although my normal way of doing it is to download from the ipod touch. i did find that all i had to do was right click on my device name and got the message to transfer my apps and then they showed up in my library. Also when i clicked the synch checkbox i was able to view the ipod touch picture without it being greyed out. after all that i was able toupdate to IOS 5 successfully except my videos and podcast, and pdfs did not come over. This confuses me since i had dragged them over to my library to make sure that i had everything in my library and on my device. Not a big problem, since i just dragged them in itunes from my library to my device but sometimes i wonder if i understand the big picture:)

Yes, I did try to go on my settings>wifi and was waiting for any wifi signals to pick up, but nothing shows up. But on my PC I get a whole list of networks to choose from. Regarding my neighbor, I already have her password that is why I was able to get it on my PC, the problem is that the mini Ipad is not picking any signal neither can it locate me when I go to maps.

Im just guessing but it seems like you would have to get your movie into the correct folder on a computer then use iTunes to sync it to your iPad. If you've synced to a computer and have movies then on your computer should be a folder with the movie in it. You could export your iMovie to something like Dropbox then download from Dropbox to the folder you think it needs to be in the sync your iPad again. Again this is just a guess. Others may have a better answer.

I have a similar problem: I switched from mac mail to Outlook 2011 as the default client, and want to switch back. Mailto links (eg from browser etc) default to Mail. However, when I try to email a Word document as an attachment, it continues to open Outlook. Outlook has a button in its prefs for making it the default client, but I don't see a way to turn this pref off in either Outlook or in Word.
