HD video choppy in timeline

Hi guys,
I'm importing a HD video in CS5 and the playback is choppy but if i publish its fine.
Comp Specs:
1992 HP desktop, with Intel 256Mgz processor, 128MB of ram, 25GB hard drive and floppy drive
haha jk !
real specs: Intel i5, 4GB ram, Windows .....much better !
Thanks for your help

The fundamental problem is that the Adobe minimum requirements are shockingly misleading for the average user.
Minimum requirements only relate to being able to INSTALL the program.
Now, if you want to USE it, then the deficiencies of that requirement list gets pretty obvious. For the most simple codecs, like SD DV-AVI, it might work slowly and a few additions to the system, make it work. But if the codec is even a tiny bit more complex, like HDV or XDCAM, you need more additions or upgrades and if the codec is very complex, like AVCHD, you will find that you need a lot more than just the minimum requirements.
I have suggested several times that Adobe publish a list like this one:
Requirements
Adobe's Minimum
'Easy' codecs (DV)
'Intermediate' codecs (HDV)
'Complex' codecs (AVCHD)
'Very Complex' codecs (Red 4k)
CPU
Core2 Duo / AMD Phenom II
Quad core / AMD Phenom X4
Quad core + HT
i7-950+
i7-980X+
Memory
2 GB
6 or 8 GB
8 or 12 GB
12+ GB
24+ GB
Video card
any card
recent ATI or nVidia card
nVidia CUDA card, 450+
nVidia CUDA card, 450+
Quadro 6000 / GTX 580
Disks
2 SATA
3 SATA
3 SATA
4 SATA and Raid
6+ SATA and Raid
Mind you, this is only a quick and rough indication and Adobe would be very helpful if they designed such an overview. Or they could design an interactive system helper on the web that takes the user through a number of questions and at the end presents the user with an overview of a suggested system.

Greetings, I am working in Final Cut Pro 7. In the timeline some clips show as offline. I tried going to sequence and reconnecting to media but it does not work. I can still see the video in the timeline and work with it. It just has the red box. Thanks! Olga

If the clips are not actually missing, you could try to refresh the timeline by using cmd-0 and then going to the timeline options tab. Then select name only where it says "thumbnail display". Press ok to accept the change, then repeat the process to add thumbnails back to your timeline.

  • Premiere 10 has stop play video audio on timeline

My premiere element 10 all of sudden stop play audio on my timeline or preview. I have uninstall and reinstall it back to see if that would help. I play the video on other player and the sound plays normally. I use a mac computer and it was working find up untill last night. I also have photoshop and I click a video and it plays thru organizer. Please if someone knows what i should can you help me please.

When you first import your video, before you do anything, do you have a red line over the video on the timeline?
If you do have a red line as described above, your project and your video do not match

  • Why can´t I pass videos to the timeline?

I was working fine, and suddenly I couldn´t pass my videos to the timeline, when I try to do it there´s a hand and a circle like indicating it is blocked or something. Why is this? How can I put it off?

Hey! Hang on... I was wrong about the Gspot settings being exactly the same. My newly captured video in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 (800MB file size) also says "File Length Correct". My video originally captured in Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 (it says 500MB file size, but it's actually 8.9GB) says:
    "Corrupt AVI Header:
This is an invalid AVI file due to corruption of the data in the header. This is a serious problem, and this file is not likely to playable (I'm not the one who typed this sentence all screwy and without end punctuation)
Details: While processing chunk /RIFF:AVI, found bad length value 1069461800 at file offset 0x0000fc94"
Just to check if the other camcorder tape that I transferred in had the same problem, I checked my other video file with a supposedly 1,820MB file size, though it's actually 10.2GB, and that file says "File Length Correct".
So it looks like this is not a file corruption issue with upgrading from Adobe Premiere Element 3.0 to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, but possibly a corrupt file. However, it works fine now and I haven't come across any video problem yet.
This also doesn't explain the bass boost problem, but I am going to focus on that now.
Thanks everyone for your input, and thank you Steve about the Gspot tip!

  • Flash Pro, How can preview sound with the vidio on embedded video on the timeline

I am using a windows 7 based machine Flash Pro CC.  I embedded the video on the timeline, basically a person talking. Want to put pictures in and out during certain times of the discussion but when I press play on the preview these is no sound.  When I test publish the project I get sound.  How do I get the sound on the embedded video to play on the preview?

Make sure that you have the latest version of > Safari 4.1 for Tiger
Then check and update your >  Adobe - Flash Player

  • Video on flash timeline

    hello everyone,
this maybe someone already asked, but i couldn't find any answer.
so, i need to import a video to flash timeline not with playback, SO when i move around i can see the video in each frame than i can draw my animation effect on it . normal i will import flv, but "thanks" to cc 2014, even media encore no longer support flv, but flash still ask me to convert video to flv so i can add on to the timeline (logic?)
than i 'm like ok i can work in photoshop, but it is not in vector,  so i can't really scale up and down cause the pixel edge will start to appear.
could anyone gave me a solution of this? i don't even know how to find the cc with flv support anymore.....
    Thank you

Then I misunderstood you. If you need to create an .flv video then you'll have to use an older copy of Adobe Media Encoder, 7.2 or earlier, or use Flash CS6, or use a third party application.
I have also tried [OFFICIAL] iSkysoft | Video Converter, Video Downloader, DVD Creator
There is a free online file transcoder, Zamzar - video converter, audio converter, image converter, eBook converter
Both of these work and may suit your needs.

  • Horizontal lines in video playback from timeline

I haven't had this problem before this year. I get a quick 1-2 second squiggly line horizontally through the video even on still image segments several times while playing video from the timeline. It's not always there and I could play through it two times and see it and the third time it may not be there. I also exported a clip from a still photo sequence.. the clip played fine.
I do not see any lines in the quicktime files when played in Quick time.
I use a older mac.... G4.. 733... I've been afraid to update system software and FCP because it's been doing fine until this problem.
Thanks for any help/suggestions anyone can offer!
    G4 733   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   1gig RAM, 4 HD's

Your footage is interlaced, and you exported to an interlaced format. For computer viewing or upload to a web video service like YouTube, you want to deinterlace your footage; in AME, this is done automatically when you export with Field Order set to Progressive (None).
And get rid of K-Lite. Quickly.

I can put the audio (5-1) on audio 4, but impossible to put the video... Everybody told me that Premiere support all the codec on the same project... It is not true!!!
    Why????

when i'm editing my video in the timeline it looks perfect, but when i save the video and replay it on quicktime it has these weird lines? does anyone know how to fix that?

    As Tom states, that's interlacing.
Interlacing was invented when the TV was born, to carry 1/5 the frame with each Hz of the electricity rating. In the US, that's why you use 30 fps (or 29.nnn) in the US and we use 25 fps in europe as the electricity is 60Hz/50Hz.
Interlaced video should ONLY (I repeat ONLY) be used for analog TV signal transports.
Each and every digital TV set today, including all the computer screens, is Progressive, updating the full frame at each screen refresh. And most TV's even refresh much quicker, newest TV's refresh a 800Hz..! (giving then problems with the newest LTE spectums..)
If your source media in interlaced, ask why! And stop shooting interlaced.. ;-)
If you have interlaced video, make sure you apply the DeInterlace setting when you import and transcode it.

  • Streaming video choppy on new macbook

Why are all internet videos choppy on my new Macbook Pro? The videos are constantly buffering. I can only see about 5 seconds at a time. This is a brand new Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion. I have had the unit for about a month. The video has been a problem from day one. Video problems are not just Youtube but all sites I go to. My PC has no problem with the same sites, same network.

I'd be wondering whether something that you have brought across from the older machine may be giving it indigestion, mpeterd.
You might find it worth taking a look at Activity Monitor when the problem occurs to see if any process is hogging CPU time.
One known "issue" after migration from earlier Macs or OS versions can involve a new process called "fontworker" under Snow Leopard. If you have brought across old fonts from the MB then it may be that some are duplicates of Snow Leopard fonts, or corrupted, or simply too old for the new OS. Might be worth checking with Font Book for duplicated or corrupted fonts. Another possibility may be a corupted "Spotlight" index. If Activity Monitor shows a process called "mds" or "mdsworker" running overtime, then this is likely to be the cause.
There are various other possibilities here, too, though. Activity Monitor is a good place to check for such things first, before considering seeking replacement. You may well find that the problem recurs even with a new, perfectly healthy, computer when you bring things across from the old one.
    Cheers

  • Video choppy in Apple TV2, iTunes, RealPlayer and QT - but perfect in VLC

I have some videos that are really choppy when I play then on iTunes on my iMac (OS X with the latest updates). I have rebooted and nothing else is running except iTunes and it is still choppy.
Tried RealPlayer and Quicktime (standalone) and its choppy with both of them.
Playing on my Apple TV is also choppy. Apple TV is on wired network.
All of my video files are on USB SATA drive connected to my iMac.
Note that I can bring up VLC on my iMac, navigate to the video file (mp4) and it plays flawlessly, off of the same USB SATA drive.
Video file is 720x398, H.246 AAC, color profile SD (6-1-6), total bit rate 1,628, frame rate 29.97.
Could be how it is encoded?

Yes, encoding could likely be the culprit. May have more luck posing in the quicktime section

  • How can I move video down the timeline?

New user here. Please can anyone help. When you import a picture into Soundtrack, why does it always automatically go to the first frame of your project title. For example, if I want the picture to be at 10 00 00 00, I will put this in the project title import the picture and away we go. However, I would like the opportunity to put a plop 48 frames before the picture. I thought it would be a simple process to drag and drop the picture as you do audio but it appears not to be the case. I have looked everywhere for a solution but to no avail. I should point out, that I am using ST Pro as a stand alone audio device, that is, not alongside Final Cut. I also work in an audio post production studio and am evaluating the possibility of using ST Pro as part of our tools. With this picture restriction, though, it is looking unlikely. Anyone's help and advice on this would be much appreciated. I am aware ST Pro is audio editing only. I use it for that purpose. However, it is an audio to picture tool. For example, in my game, I put audio to tv commercials. Thus, I need the picture to put audio against. I know I can import the picture. My simple question is why, when you import the picture, does it always go to the start of your timeline. So, if I put my start time at 10 00 00 00, I am unable to put anything before that marker. So if I want to put any audio before the picture, whether it be a plop or tone, I can't. I simply want to drag the picture to another time point that will allow to have some potential audio time before the picture. If any of you try to import a picture in a new title, you will see what I mean. If you don't set a timecode, it will put the picture at point zero on the time line and not allow you to bring the cursor before that. If you set a time at 10 00 00 00, again it will not allow you to move the cursor to a point before that point. If Apple were serious about going into the post pro market they should ensure that this works as a stand alone system. I was speaking to them the other day and mentioned this. As I say, it really does seem peculiar that you are unable to perform such a simple exercise.

Hi laser558, everything you say is true. I continue to [maintain|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1385395&tstart=150] that STP is mainly a tool for video editors to work with sound in a better way than they are able to in FCP, and not a mainline tool for audio professionals. Some people may disagree with that, and if they can get the job done that's great, but the more I work with it the more I feel this way. That's not to say the program doesn't have tremendous possibilities, and that eventually STP may become a really useful program for you, but regrettably I don't recommend it for everyone you at this time.
The only way to deal with your dilemna in STP is to edit the movie (say in QTPro) before you import it.
