HD video to DVDSP SD disc..Don't want letterbox

We have footage shot at HD 720p. Exported out of FCP and encoded in Compressor. Authoring in DVDSP and want the image to fill 16:9 screen when played on DVD players. Some screens are filled others letterboxed when tested on different DVD players/screens. Since the footage is originally HD is there a way to maintain the 16:9 without letterbox?

Make sure that the track is 16:9 letterbox in DVDSP. After this, any error in display is because the DVD set top player is not set to play on the screen it is connected to. DVD-players have been around for years now, and so has 16:9 screens. This is pretty basic ...

Thank you for the question. The best way to avoid this behavior would be to delete the music video from your library. You can always download it again free by accessing your previous purchases. To delete and item in your iTunes library, select the item and hit delete on your keyboard.

Need high quality compression for iDVD but don't want letterbox

I have a FCE project which has moving stills, lots of titling and graphics (from Photoshop) and want a high quality compression to get rid of the interlacing, etc. I need to get this to iDVD.
If I export as quicktime, it's just ok quality. If I use Sorenson or Animation (as recommended by the Apple creatives), the resulting project looks great but I have letterboxing on the top/bottom in iDVD, which I don't want. I'm using a 4:3 aspect ratio and my FCE project is 720x480.
What am I doing wrong? I don't have the "preserve aspect using letterbox" checked but get the letter box anyway. (I tried it with this and have a thicker letterbox!)

If the material is 4:3 edited in a 4:3 there is no reason for iDVD to letterbox it, unless the iDVD preferences are set to widescreen.
It's hard to tell where you're going wrong because there are so many variables along the way, and you haven't spelled out what you're doing, format, frame sizes, export settings, etc.
Whoever told you to export to Sorenson or Animation is completely wrong. You should export to QuickTime Movie. iDVD only accept a couple of formats DV material and HDV in Apple Intermediate Codec, and HD is always widescreen. The HDV 720p format has no interlacing. These formats export from FCE with interlacing unless you switch it off in FCE. You can do this in Item Properties for the sequence. Set the Field Dominance to None.

Can you import the video from an AVCHD Disc into FCP7 for editing?

Can the video from an AVCHD Disc be imported into FCP 7 for re-editing if you have a normal Superdrive burner?
The reason I ask is because last night our film-making club gave a show of short videos to some guests.
At the end it was decided to put them all on one DVD to send to the visitors as a memento.
However, some of the films were on AVCHD discs and I queried whether they could be copied, even in standard definition.
The "copier" said it was no problem as he had a PC and had done it before . . . . . cheeky devil!
So can it be done . . . . . on a PC or a Mac . . . . with a standard burner?
I have just tried but nothing in the BDMV folder can be imported.

GOT IT!
Copy the BDMV folder from the AVCHD disc to the desktop.
Use HandBrake to convert the .m2ts files to H.264
Then convert the H.264 files to an editable format.
Rather convoluted process but it works.
Anyone know a better method?

Premiere Elements 10: Disc Menu when I don't want one ...?

Somehow when working on the current project, I accidentally got a Disc Menu. I don't actually want one for the first time out, this is not the final version, I just wanted an auto-play video for now. I will eventually want a menu, but ... is there a way to turn that off?

Those are the constituent parts of a standard mpeg2 DVD. Storing them is easy: just copy the folder to your hard drive and they will play in DVD player or VLC.
But that format is not intended for editing. To do so:
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:

Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

If you don't want your sister to make purchases on your credit card, then Family Sharing is not an appropriate way to do what you want. You can use Find my Friends to locate each other and you can use Shared Photo Streams to share photos.

With iPhoto every new photo was automatically imported and saved on my local disk (with "full resolution" that's what I only need). In the new photo app I have still my photo stream and when I move a photo (drag and drop from the photo stream) to a new album it indicates a (plus). My understanding is that the photo is now copied to my local disk. But when I deleted the photo in the photo stream it was also deleted in the album !?
If that is the case I can use the photo stream only until I reach the max of 1.000 photos, then I have to delete photos and I will have no copy left.
How can I "physically" copy a photo of the photo stream to my local disk? I just want to "transfer" all pictures taken with Ipads, Iphones to my central storage on the Mac. Please don't propose to connect it via iTunes (cable) to the Mac.
Any other suggestions?

The amazing device cannot do it because no amazing developer has written an app for it. There is some interest, others have asked, but i have a hunch that the market is fairly limited, and no developer has jumped at the chance just yet.
Any sort of tethered approach means try to feed the material to the pad thru the cck. Which means the app would have to use the allowed/existing cck pathway in a manner that does not violate the sandbox rules. That may be the problem.

The password is set on the WiFi router providing the service, by the owner of the network to prevent unwanted "guests" accessing the network. The only way to know it is to ask the owner permission to use the network. Otherwise, you have to find a free WiFi hotspot that doesn't require a password.

These are your options:
1. Restore the iPhoto library from the most recent backup that predates the issue.
          Advantages: Always works, if library damage is causing the problem and the backup is intact.
          Disadvantages: Impossible if you don't have a backup. All changes made since the backup are lost.
2. Repair or rebuild the library. Be sure to back it up first.
          Advantages: May solve the problem with no loss of data.
          Disadvantages: May fail. May take a long time if the library is large.
3. Scavenge the library with a third-party application called "iPhoto Library Manager," which you can find in a web search. From the application's menu bar (not the iPhoto menu bar), select Library ▹ Rebuild.
          Advantages: All images should be preserved.
          Disadvantages: All books, calendars, and slideshows will be lost.

there are three displays in photos page:
1) thumbnails grid - smallest
2) deatial view and detail view slideshow - large
3a) pop-up slideshow - vary - this is slideshow.html
3b) or iphone/ipad slideshow phoneshow.html - iphone/ipad can't do pop-up
it's difficult to know which you refer to.
if you refer to pop-up slideshow then you should not look into iwebmediagrid.js as wyodor suggested.
instead look in phoneshow.html and change width and heigth of element id slideshow:

I was a kid when I made a documentary for a school project. I've been trying to figure out how to retrieve the file. 4 years ago, I was able to get the files off the Iomega Zip drive (finally), but I now see the file is saved as a .A4P. There is also a file saved as a .PKG as well, but I don't know how to open this with my Windows 8 COmputer.

.a4p is an Authorware v.4 (Windows) project.
Interesting you have it as a .pkg...usually that's a published-on-a- Mac extension, if I recall.
At any rate, can you put the file up on a Box, Dropbox, FTP, etc...and send me a URL?
I should be able to published it so you can view the project (it would be an .exe).
It can't be converted to anything though - not without manual effort.

Is it possible to delete part of a video in DVDSP?

I have DVD Studio Pro 4. I encoded the video and dropped it on the timeline. I realized that there is about 5 seconds of black that I want to delete from it. Is it possible to delete these 5 seconds in DVD Studio Pro? Is there any way just to cut it out?
There is another thing I could do but I can't seem to figure it out. The 5 seconds that I want to delete is at the beginning of the timeline. DVD Studio Pro automatically puts a chapter marker at the beginning of the timeline. Is there a way to move that chapter marker 5 seconds into the project so I would not have to delete the 5 seconds of black? The reason I ask this is because there is a chapter at the beginning of the timeline and then there is one at the 5 seconds point, where the black ends and the video begins. I need to either get rid of the black or get rid of the very first chapter marker.
If there is no possible way to do either of these things, I am going to have to re-encode it and take out the 5 seconds of black in Final Cut Pro. I really don't want to have to do that because the encoding just took 3 hours.

I have been doing that, but here is the problem. This DVD has 3 tracks.
Track 1 is 16:9 footage
Track 2 is 4:3 footage
Track 3 is 16:9 footage.
I have the end jump of track 2 jumping to track 3. It works perfectly. I need to set a previous jump back to track 2. Here is where the 2 markers couse a problem. I set the previous jump on the 2nd chapter of Track 3 (this is the one that is 5 seconds in) to go back to Track 2. Instead, when I hit back on the remote control in simulator it goes back to the first chapter of Track 3(this is the one at the beginning of the timeline) not Track 2. If I get rid of the first chapter in track 3 I know it will go straight back to Track 2 where I want it to go. So I have to get rid of either the 5 seconds of black or the first chapter at the beginning of track 3.
Is this possible?

If you are trying to play these on quicktime then what video format are those videos?
Wmp's? You need to install Flip4Mac.
Most other formats? Install Perian.
Or just use vlc instead. It's a much better, more powerful, and more general video player.
