HD video using Macbook

Is there any way to edit HD video on a Macbook 2GHZ Intel core 2 duo without it being RIDICULOUSLY slow? I can't even play back a track in the sequence without having to render first, and if i edit that same track, i have to render again for playback (and it takes ages)...
I knew it was obviously going to be slower than SD footage but man!
thanx in advance

This is because your camera is shooting the wrong video format for FCE.
The only compatible ones are DV and HDV from TAPE cameras and AVCHD.
Nothing else will work properly.
You must copy your video files onto the desktop and convert them to DV or Apple Intermediate Codec (for high definition) with MPEG Streamclip:-
http://www.squared5.com/
Many people do not understand that there are numerous different formats of standard definition and hi-def video and they are all incompatible with each other. Every few months camera makers are bringing out new formats which do not work with existing equipment.
It's fine for the 99% of users who never edit, but a nightmare for those who do.

  • What is the best way to store videos using Macbook Air?

I have a Macbook Air and I don't want to store videos on the hardrive because it will fill up fast.  I have a lot of videos - for people that also take a lot of videos - what is the best way in your opinion or best place to store video? For example, on a server, on a cloud server, etc?

Ok, so do you have a recommend brand and space capacity?
You mentioned that one of your primary needs is to store video, which demands large capacity. As a consequence I'd suggest a drive with at least 1Tb, perhaps greater, capacity. I don't have a preferred brand or manufacturer - it's a bit like recommending which is better between Ford and Chevy - but I have a couple of Western Digital external USB drives which have proven very reliable, and a Seagate which is used as a daily backup and has worked flawlessly.
DWB's point about backups is important too, because when you store files on any drive there is a risk of that drive failing - and indeed, all drives will fail at some point. The question is, can you live with the total loss of those files if the drive does fail? If you are storing files that you value, then a backup is needed to help protect those files. Ideally that would mean two drives, not one. One to use for the storing the files, and the second to use to back those files up.

DVD drives read the bottom of the disk, not the top. Smooth out the paper & try again.

  • I'm using macbook and i want to upload videos in vimeo, they informed me that safari 5.1 is no longer supported. what should i do? please advice, thank you!

i'm using macbook and i want to upload videos in vimeo, they informed me that safari 5.1 is no longer supported. what should i do? please advice, thank you!

If there is an indication of minimum specification in browser support, flash player plugin or other limits that have recently been changed, those should be available from Vimeo support.
The expectation of several things to be continued in an older OS X such as Leopard 10.5.8, has been showing its age and various browsers supporting that system online are fewer now. Safari has no upgrade version for this old of OS X. You may be able to use a different web browser to see if it would work.
There may be a later version of Flash that could work, or maybe not. A few browsers may do OK, I have a version of SeaMonkey (not the PPC version) in my MacBook1.1, running in Leopard 10.5.8. The last version of FireFox is no longer updated, but I have that too. The iCab browser (shareware) may do OK, you can test it since it runs freely w/o license.
For overall better web experience, you may need to look into the MacBook specifications and consider an upgrade to both the OS X system (buy/install retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD -- then download Combo Update 10.6.8 v1.1) and see if the computer can support more chip RAM installed. Of course if the hard disk drive is running full, make an external archive of your created content and a backup before considering upgrading the OS X and any applications.
With Snow Leopard 10.6.8, you have better browser support, newer Flash player plugin, and a few features that may be better for your overall experience with the MacBook. However it may ask for more resources than a basic Leopard 10.5.8 system, generally most reviews appear to be good. I have a MacBook1.1 (mid-2006) coreduo 1.83GHz model; it can run Snow Leopard 10.6.8 as a last upgrade & nothing further for mine.
While OS X 10.6.8 is a portal to attempt further OS X upgrades via Mac App Store, etc, the hardware of the early older MacBook may find better usefulness left at Snow Leopard. If you have several older applications written for PPC hardware (they run under Rosetta, an option in Snow Leopard no longer available after it) you may choose to keep the upgrade path at OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard even if there is a hint your MacBook could be upgraded to, say, Lion 10.7.5. You'd lose support for older applications not written to Universal or PPC.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • HT2494 what connector to buy to transfer audio and video from macbook to tv?

what connector to buy to transfer audio and video from macbook to tv? I read that if I buy the normal mini display port to hdmi converter that the audio will not transmit through my tv. I there a certain thing I need to buy to make this happen? I have a Macbook 13 inch Early 2008.

You can sync photos and videos to your iPad via your computer's iTunes.
To sync photos, connect and select your iPad on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (you can enable the sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac), and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.
If the videos are films that you want to go into the Videos app then you first need to add them to your computer's iTunes library via File > Add To Library, and you can then use the Films/Movies tab to select and sync them

What format are the videos in that you want to download, and have you got an app on your iPad that supports that format ?

  • No Video using Airplay from iPad 2 to Apple TV 2 using authorized App.

I have an iPad 2 and Apple TV 2.   I use Slingbox.
Today, I started watching a show using my iPad as a Slingbox Player.   The source TV was in another state.   The video and audio was good, and the network speed using Speakeasy was above 3MBPS download.   I clicked on the Airplay button at the top, and the video and audio started playing on my HD TV in full HD.  Audio and Video were correct and great.
Then I tried to change channels and evenutally I disconnected the Slingbox.   I reconnected the Slingbox and after pushing the Airplay button again, I only got audio (with a little musical note symbol on the tv at the lower lest corner).   I then proceeded to reboot the iPad 2 and i reset the Apple TV to factory settings.   No luck.  Reconnecting via Airplay to the TV only will stream Audio.   The network speed stayed above 3MBPS.
I also was unable to connect video using my iPhone, but I was able with my MacBook Air.
Note:  I AM able to force mirroring by turning Mirroring "on" (double click on button, swipe app bar to the right, hit Airplay button, and turn on Mirroring).   But although the video is fine, I lose HD and the picture qualtiy is degraded.   Not a good solution.
I now KNOW that I can send a Slingbox signal to my HDTV from my iPad as a Slingplayer and using Airplay.  It worked!  But only for about 20 minutes, and I am not able to get it back.
This is a real poser.   I hope someone knows how to fix this (but judging from the other questions on this question over the years - I doubt it...:-(

I FOUND THE ANSWER TO MY OWN QUESTION:  The Slingplayer will tend to default to SQ (Standard Quality) playback.   Under "Quality" on the Slingplayer screen, there are choices of SQ, HD (High Def) and AUTO.   I selected "Auto" and it went to HD quality.  Then, when I enabled AirPlay, a full HD picture appeared on my TV WITHOUT having to select "Mirroring".
    I get 10 points...

  • Transfer video from macbook pro to iPhone iOS 8

how to transfer video from macbook pro to iphone 5S IOS 8, anyone?

    Hi hjmdsalleh,
You typically use iTunes to sync your content to your iPhone.
iOS: Syncing your data with iTunes
If you are having problems syncing some videos, they may not be in the correct format.
iTunes: Videos may be unable to sync to iPhone, iPad, or iPod
    Take care,

  • Seeking advice on used Macbook Pro

Hi. Have a pretty simple question that some of the experts here might have an opinion on. I'm looking for a used Macbook Pro 17-inch for portable video/photo editing (Final Cut Studio, After Effects, Photoshop, etc.). I have my eye on two MBPs at the moment. One is a mid-2010 with a core i5 processor and 8GB RAM for $1000, and the other is a 2011 with a quad-core i7 processor and 4GB RAM plus Thunderbolt port for $1400. Both come with all the original accessories and discs. Basically, I'm wondering if the performace upgrade to the 2011 model is worth the extra $400. Thanks in advance.

    I have both a 2010 17" MBP and a late 2011 17" MBP.  Both have i7 CPUs.
One advantage that the 2010 MBP has that, theoretically, the battery run time is longer than that of the 2011 MBP.  I have never tried to measure it.
Advantages of the 2011 MBP are the Thunderbolt port and the capacity to have up to 16 GB RAM installed.
As far as the CPUs are concerned, a quad core will perform more efficiently IF the application is designed to take advantage of all cores.  Other wise it becomes a question of CPU speed.  That I have tested.
Given the choice, I personally would opt for the 2011 MBP, but it is your money, not mine that is at stake.
    Ciao.

  • Record video using built in camera?

Is there any way to record video using the built in camera on the 1.83gh macbooks, i know you can use photobooth with the newer macbooks, but on the older macbooks photobooth does not allow you this option.
    Any ideas?

You need Quick Time Pro to record video. QT Player does not allow this.

  • Cannot play any online video with macbook pro retina Safari. (Youtube, youku, tudou, etc..)

    Help!!!
I'm using Macbook Pro Retina, my version is ME866LLA
    My Safari version is: 7.0.6
I installed the latest version's adobe flash. I'v tried reset settings for safari, and I also checked Security Settings ->Internet Plugins. I do believe all are correct.
But still I can't play any video from any online video websites(Like youtube, youku, tudou etc).
Like below screenshot, always loading, but never start playing. I even fixed the permissions for my disk, still didn't work.
Anybody can tell me what happened?? At the very beginning(when I first got this computer), I think this works, but don't know what happened. I have this issue for long time!!
Anybody can help me? Great thanks!!

    Hi ..
You may be using HTML 5.
Then click:  Use the Default Player
If that doesn't help, from your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab.
Make sure:   Allow Plug-ins  is selected.
If that doesn't help, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
Back to the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab.
Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

hi now i am using macbook pro i was download torrent once i done the vedio i cant watch the vedio so what i want to do can u help me

Downloading from torrent sites is not necessarily safe - some sites include additions to the things you download. The point is: when something is free which costs money elsewhere, it may not be safe.
Personally, I would delete the video and make sure my system is still working correctly.

  • Problem importing videos using Photos for Mac

I just install photos for mac, everything seems ok since I moved iphoto library to new photos library.
But there is one problem, I can not import videos from my iphone, every new photo was imported but not a single video.
The application said the format file is unrecognizable file type.
I am using macbook air with Mac OS X Yosemite ver 10.10.3 also iphone 4s and iphone 5, each idevice using latest ios.
    Thank you in advance

iPhoto did not support video syncing over iCloud. The new Photos app does. If you synced, or transferred your videos to iTunes, they should have migrated yo Photos. Enable Sidebar in the View menu, then check the Videos special Album.
Your old iPhoto app and iPhoto Library remain on your drive and work as before. The iZphotolsb is in your Applications folder.
