Hdajackretask line out question

Hi there!
I want to remap (retask) headphones jack (3.5 mm) to act as line out.
Trouble is in that I can choose only from "Line out front", "Line out back", "Line out center", "Line out side", but I want just one simple "Line out" to connect to 1 channel amplifier.
What can I make in such situation? Will "Line out front" be suitable in such situation? May be "Advanced options" checkbox will help (but I don't know how to configure port in this mode)?
Thanks.

Better audio would be relative.  Remember the audio will only be as good as the weakest link in the chain.  If you are prepared to use high quality audio files, amplification and speakers or headphones, then yes, you can get better audio performance.  But if you are only planning to make a partial commitment, you aren't going to get any gain and will just waste your money.
Here is an example of a iPhone/iPad/iPod D/A device on Amazon.  I'm sure there are many more you can check out.
http://www.amazon.com/Nuforce-ICON-IDO-SILVER-Audiophile-Grade-Headphone-Devices /dp/B005LRTH5Q/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1414176166&sr=8-7&keywords=ipod+lightning+ cable+headphone+amps
You don't want to go too cheap because a poor quality D/A converter may make the audio worse.  What devices like this does, is take a function that your iPad already does through built-in circuitry and do it externally with the assumption that you can buy a D/A converter and amplifier with higher quality components than those used by Apple.

    Hi
Is it possible to use the 3.5mm output as a line level output e.g. for a hifi / car stereo input ?
Or is the headphone stage amp always in the signal path ?
    thanks

It is indeed possible.  My phone has died again, so I don't have it in front of me, but I often used mine in the car through an FM transmitter,  When you plug the thing in, it asks you to select 'headphones' or 'line out'.  There might be one other option.  Just select 'line out' and enjoy your music at good driving volumes...

  • Xmod: Line-out too much near usb p

Sorry for my english, I'm italian...
I can't connect my belkin pure AV cable to Xmod because the space between usb and line out is too small, i think this is a serious planning problem because many good quality cable present a connector more larger than standard, my question: Can I use headphone-out for speakers without differences?
    P.S: I don't use CMSS-3D

Thanks for the reply, but I have tried it - I did state it in my message.
I probably tried it 10 times already, no help.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks,

  • Using iphone line-out

A couple years ago I made a custom cable to go from the dock connector on my iPod to my car stereo. This utilized the line-out signal from the dock connector, which is the right level for input to the stereo (and higher quality, as it bypasses the headphone amplifier). The cable also charges the ipod when it is plugged in.
I was hoping that I could use this same cable with my iphone, but unfortunately when I plug it in the audio continues to play from the built-in speaker. It does charge, but no sound.
So, does anyone have any information on how to "turn on" the iphone line-out? I would guess I need to drive some pin on the dock connector, which will signal the iphone that an accessory is connected, but I have not been able to find any information about this. Are there any documents for developers designing devices for the iphone that might be able to answer this question?
    Thanks,
    Alex

SendStation has released a revised version of its PocketDock Line Out USB some time ago, which is now also compatible with the iPhone: Line Out + Sync & Charge via USB.

  • No audio from line out port

hello, i am using plug-powered speakers on my powermac g5 using the front headphone port. the speakers work fine this way, but when i use them on the line out port in the back, i get a high pitched hissing sound and very quiet audio. the computer detects the speakers, and i am sure i'm using the output port ] ))) and not the input port >o<. how can i get the speakers to work from the line out port so i don;t have to use the front headphones port? thanks!

i have a question. if i have standard apple ipod headphones, and use them on the rear audio out port, will i get the same sound as the headphones port on the front?
i still can't get this to work. i'm starting to believe this is a hardware problem, all the settings are identical for audio out and headphones in audio MIDI setup, but i'm still not getting any sound when i use the rear.

  • Audio line out mysteriously doesn't work due to software

My topic doesn't seem to fit in with any of the forum topics, so I chose this one as the closest fit.
Now, my line out audio stopped working. Now before you think I'm crazy and I submitted a question for what is obviously bad hardware, listen to this.
This happened before about a year and a half ago. I thought it was a faulty line out jack, and since computer was still under warranty, I took it in. They told me there was nothing wrong. I took the computer home and it worked just fine. hmmmmm
Now it happened again. I checked my speakers first by connecting to another computer. They worked fine. I rebooted the computer in Windows and the line out plays just fine into the external speakers! I reboot back into OSX and it stops working! Any ideas what is going on?
Of course I have the line out selected in the sound preferences. I can select internal speaker and I get audio from the computers speaker. Go back to line out and it's a blank. And yes, the volume is turned up.

    Here's my advice...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then reinstall the combo update for Intel-based Macs...

    Repair Permissions afterwards, reboot.

  • Does the Universal Dock provide a true Line-Out port?

I recently bought a Universal Dock for my new black iPod. However, when I tried to connect it with an audio system or with video editing equipment, it turned out that it did not provide a true line-out signal. Instead, what came out was just the same sound as when using the headphone port. This means much less dynamics as the sound is obviously filtered and processed by an equalizer. I can raise the volume with the scroll wheel, but that is not the point. I'm sure this used to be different with my old 3rd generation iPod and a conventional dock. Even when I hook up the iPod with a Belkin Pocket Dock, I get a true and clear line-out signal with a constant volume, no matter whether the Pod's volume control is up or down. What's wrong here? Why does Apple suggest you get line-out when you can't? Is there a third party solution which supports the Apple remote control?
    Thanks! Joerg.

I get line out with mine and the volume wheel does
not have any effect on the sound. You are connecting
to the 3.5 connector on the dock?
Yes, of course. This puzzles me. You are using a UNIVERSAL dock, not a conventional one? I mean, the one that you can operate with a remote control? As I said, I checked the problem with another universal dock at my retailer, and it showed the same problem. No full line-out, and the volume wheel DID have an effect on the sound. Should I e-mail Apple about this and ask them whether they sell different kinds of docks depending on the respective continent? And is there any Apple e-mail address for complaints/questions like this?
    Thanks anyway!

  • Intel imac line out hifi trouble

Hello all, i just tried an unsucessful search and decided to just post my question. I bought an imac intel duo a month or so ago. I was not impressed with the speakers so i bought the apple hifi to go with my ipod and also plug into my imac. Everything worked fine for about 3 days. Then any audio output coming from the computer is messed up. It is just garbage coming over the line. I unplugged the hifi and it plays fine with the ipod and the internal speakers for the imac work fine. Also when i plug in a pair of head phones the imac line out sounds the same garbage as the hifi. Can the line out jack break on its own. Also i live in north louisiana and the closest apple store in 3 hours away in dallas. I have the apple card plan for 3 years, but i really don't want to drive all the way to dallas. If anyone has heard of this or has a fix please email me at [email protected] I can't guarantee you i can find this thread again to read the response if i get any.
bye and up till now i have loved my imac
    roland

I bought the applecare package, and they are sending someone out to take a look. I removed parallels and windows xp virtual computer, Although, i would like them back, if they caused the problem, it didn't correct it when parallels when bye bye.
Anyway, hopefully this applecare rep, will be a smart fellow and know his stuff, and not rip apart my machine. I am kinda worried. Anyone had any experiences with applecare outcall tech's. Let me know, i always prefered the incalls better myself, but this is my first time again.
Don't know if anyone got my lame pun, but any feedback about applecare would be apprecieted... And i will update the result and if the problem is solved, i will change the status of my question to answered.

  • Damaged Audio line out jack

Hope to get some advice here - after messing with my MDD to get a Time Capsule up and running (while changing the ethernet connections a couple of times), I managed to thwack the audio line out cord from the box enough to damage it - I noticed one channel of the audio was gone, then after finding the jack is loose, wiggled it just enough to make it worse or better depending where the cord sits... I am using powered speakers so the apple speaker mini-jack doesn't seem to be a good option instead of the line out...
The question is, can this be repaired without replacing the logic board?
    Many thanks in advance!
    David

    Hi, David -
Repairing that component could be not inexpensive (if done by a tech shop) or risky (if done by someone else).
As an alternative, you could consider using the Griffin iMic Adapter.

  • Sound on sp-dif & line out at the same time

    Hi,
I'm new here so please bare with me. I've just bought a new computer with PCI Express X-Fi Xtreme Audio installed. I'm using the line out connections for a set of 5. speakers surrounding the computer and the digital out SP/DIF optical output going into the room next door connected to my main amp and speakers. The problem is that I can't get the SP/DIF output to work unless I physically unplug the line out connections from the back of the computer. I want to be able to use both at teh same time.
I've looked at previous postings on this issue and the nearest I can find is from several years ago and I'm not sure of the applicability to my soundcard. Grateful for any help with this.
    Many thanks,
    Mark?

. Varies according the the specific product. I'm familiar with the PCI SBLi've/SBAudigy cards. The pre-5. SBLi've models had both acti've, but they might not have the same audio mix if the "Digital Output Only" setting is disabled. Digital outputs on Li'veDri'ves, Digital I/O addon cards generally had corresponding behavior. The SBLi've 5. and SBAudigy models are either/or because the digital jack is dual-purpose. Other digital outputs (Li'veDri've, AudigyDri've, etc.) are generally always on. SBAudigy2 and later have dedicated digital outs which are always-on as well (other than being muted for high-resolution DVD-Audio). Gi'ven your second question, though, it should be noted that the master volume control applies to both digital and analog outputs equally, so this is _not_ a way to get two outputs with separate volume control.
    2. The master volume slider operates digitally before the conversion to analog, so no.
    3. Not impossible in theory, but probably not very practical.
Is it possible to reveal your goal because it would help to understand what you want to accomplish by this? It sounds like you want 2 identical outputs whose volume you can control separately. If I were trying to have that, I'd just use a splitter cable/adapter on the line out and send these to somethings that each have their own volume control. Since the software volume control is digital, I avoid using it, actually. I run all my volume controls full up and control volume externally. That tends to do a better job of maintaining SNR performance.

  • Trouble with MIDI, redirecting MIDI out to Line-out???

    Hello
I have yet another question regarding Logic pro and MIDI. I've plugged my keyboard via MIDI to my TC konnekt 8 audio interface, which is then plugged via firewire to my laptop. I've succesfully been able to record a track and now i want to actually hear it. I know im able to hear it via the Midi connection from my interface to the keyboard, but is there a way to "redirect" the output from my MIDI track to the Line-outs on my interface, so that i can hear it on my studio monitors instead??

I know MIDI has nothing to do with audio, but there might be a way to convert it to audio.
I just wanna hear my MIDI recorded track without going through the MIDI out/the speakers in my keyboard.
The keyboard is playing the audio, under instruction from the MIDI commands. To record the audio, or patch it through your interface, you must cable up it's audio output.
Garageband is a hugely simplified version of Logic. Of course Logic can do anything GB can do.

  • Mac Pro 2.66 Line Out not functioning.

One of our Mac Pros on display here has a set of Altec Lansing speakers attached to it, but the line out on the back of the Mac no longer works (it did at one time). I've double-checked the settings and there is no audio coming out of the ports. However, I switch the cable to the headphone jack on the front, and boom, instant sound. Dunno why.

    This should fix your problem.
1.1. Trash file com.apple.BezelServices.plist in your Home > Library > Preferences folder.
    1.2. Empty the Trash.
1.3. Either Log out then log in, or restrt your Mac.
1.4. Check the volume keys' functions a few times in the hours after performing the steps above.
    2. More than likely, an errant Startup or Login Item maybe the cause. Perhaps some third-party utility you may have
    installed to control iTunes?
My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem.
    3. If none of the above sorts it out, after the problem occurs, immediately check these Console logs for additional clues.
    Good luck!

  • Possible to use both optical out AND regular line out at the same time?

I currently have my computer speakers (logitech z560) hooked up to the mac pro via regular stereo jack in the back. I have an extra receiver that I would love to hook in to supply me with some needed sound for movie watching and what-not.. Is there a way to enable both line out - digital and line out at the same time?

You can set DVD Player's "Audio output" to "Digital Out" in its "Disc Setup" preference, while other applications use Line Out.
You could use a splitter on Line Out to feed your current speakers, and analog Line In on your receiver. When you want sound to both systems, set the receiver to Line In. When you want to watch DVDs, set it to Digital In. This will give you surround sound if the DVD has multichannel sound, and the receiver supports more than two channels.
If you really want the same output on the Mac Pro Line Out, and Digital Out, you can use the "Auxiliary Device Output" effect in Audio Hijack Pro
    <http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/>
It will not support more than two-channel audio.

  • Can I record audio on an iPad direct from a mac via line out

I use the noteability app alot, recording audio at a live lecture works great.  However, due to a bug you can not add an audio file directly into your notes (at the moment), you must record them.
I have a bunch of podcasts that I would like to add to my notes.  I know I could play them from my mac and record audio through the ipads mic but what I hoped  to do was connect a male to male cable between the line out of my mac into my ipad, playing the audio without interferance.  This didn't work
Does anyone know if there is a similar way to do this or something I could have done wrong.
    Thanks

yeah - you can do it, but you need an adapter.  The earphone jack on a pad is a special jack with stereo headphone uot put and a seperate mic in channel.  The adapters i have seen are usually built to accomodate a standard 1/4 in - into the pad, like the one in the attached link.  In theory, you could use the lineout on the mac, to a 1/4 in male - then into this adapter to get it back into the pad.   Somebody probably makes the cable you need with the 1/4 shift, but I couldn't find one.
Options - in you notes, insted of copying the file, put a link to the podcast

  • Disharging with USB, Freezing on Sync, Hard Drive noise on Line Out

I have been dealing with three issues with my 60GB iPod click wheel with color display (Photo).
The first is something that slowly creeped in, which is hard drive noise that is audible through the line out when the iPod is charging in a dock. I'd like to say it's like a ground loop issue, but it's in my car, on my iHome, and on my apple dock when plugged into power on a stereo system. It sounds like the spinning of the hard drive is correlated to the noise.
Second, over the past year or so, I've noticed that when I have the iPod plugged into any mac using USB, the iPod discharges. My friend has noticed the same problem on her 40GB 3rd generation iPod. We've tried them on several computers. Firewire connection, no problem, only USB when plugged into a computer, not the power adapter.
Just recently, the iPod froze up iTunes and the rest of my Mac (G4 MDD Dual 1gHz, OS X 10.4.10, iTunes 7.4.2) during sync. I made reformatted the iPod using Disk Utility, Restored to iPod, making sure to plug into power to finish the restore, then attempted to resync. Two attempts of this and I get the same result, a freeze.
The first two issues, I've adapted with, but this last one is just frustrating. I will attempt to sync using a firewire cable, but that should not be the solution. This iPod came with a USB cable, it should charge and sync with one. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thank you!

ok I went here for instruction on how to take it apart since I wasn't having much luck on my own:
    http://www.flexbeta.net/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=20&t=8269
his tip worked for me so far. hopefully this won't be just a temporary fix:
Good tip: if your iPod seems dead and the hard drive is throwing errors pull out the connection at the bottom of the ipod mainboard and plug it back in, this will hard reset your ipod and worked a few times for me
