HDCP, HDMI, and Airplay

I am considering purchasing an Apple TV, but I'm not sure if my TV supports HDCP over its HDMI connection. Assuming that it doesn't support it, how will my Apple TV experience be changed? My main concerns are as follows:
1. Will I be able to play purchased or rented HD tv shows or rented HD movies? What about SD tv shows and movies?
2. Will I be able to stream HD TV/movies, SD TV/movies, and digital copies from bluray purchases over home sharing?
3. Will I be able to do iPad 2 AirPlay mirroring? Will video apps like Netflix and ABC player work?
4. Will I be able to AirPlay movies from my iPad/iPhone to the apple tv?
Thanks for all the help.

From what I have found, Apple TV cannont send ANY video to a non HCDP device.  I've tried it using the Blackmagic card and it will not accept any video input, even videos I captured myself.  According to the Blackmagic site, it is a hardware issue and has nothing to do with the video content.  Here is what their faq said:
"HDCP content protection is hardware based encryption, and so it can be present on a device even if you are using content that you have the rights to capture."

  • How do I output Apple TV audio from HDMI and Airplay simultaneously

Is there a way  to  output Apple TV (2nd Gen.) audio from the HDMI port and Airplay simultaneously? There is no "Multiple Speaker" setting in the "AirPlay setup on the Apple TV.

    Not possible.

  • AppleTV to both HDMI and AirPlay speakers simultaneously

I have an AppleTV connected to home theater receiver via HDMI. I want to add wireless airplay speakers so I can send audio to them as we'll as through the stereo simultaneously. Will this work?

    That was my understanding too.

  • HDMI and audio?

I have a Sharp 52D64U. To get audio from my AppleTV, how should I connect to my TV or home theatre system?
Is the HDMI in Apple TV just video? Or is it both audio and video?
Also is the Component just video, or is it both audio and video?
Or if my home theatre system doesn't have SPDIF, will I have to be satisfied with the red/white RCA audio?

HDMI passed through your receiver may or may not work, it is supposed to and in many cases it does but with some receivers it doesn't.
Quite where the fault lies for this I am not so sure, (although it's an HDCP thing and not actually an HDMI thing), in most scenarios I'd say with the source device which is the tv. However since the tv has been shown to pass through some receivers I wouldn't like to say. What makes it more difficult is that in some scenarios DVD players and other devices will pass through a receiver but not the tv. All rather odd I think.
If it doesn't work at first you might find that the order in which you power up the devices makes a difference, I'd tend to power up the delivery device first and the source device last, but all combinations might be worth a try.
One last thing, believe it or not many fail to get the tv to work through a receiver simply because they forget to match the input and output on the receiver.

  • TS3623 I can get into my apple tv  I have purchased and when I go to watch awarning comes up saying  check Hdmi  and HDPC and won't play

My Apple TV was working ok, then I turned it on today, to watch a TV show I down loader.
press play it starts thinking then stop saying check the HDMI and HDCP  and does
    not play.
what have I done wrong it was working just fine

You need to find your original startup disc or a full install disc. Place a mac formated usb drive in usb slot.  Boot this up.  Do not install.  This should let you copy off the files you want.
Back up your important files.  Use dropbox on your document folder.

  • Running HDMI and Optical  to Denon Receiver for separate zones

I have the AppleTV (generation 2 I think) that I had setup in the following manner:
HDMI direct to Denon receiver for main room (both video and audio) - Zone 1
Optical audio to "Optical to RCA" converter then RCA cable to Denon for audio to patio - Zone 2
This allowed me to AirPlay music from my iPad to the AppleTV and output that audio to both zones at the same time. The added convenience was to carry my iPad around (in or out) to change music as needed. I hadn't used the patio speakers in a while but now notice it won't output to the patio (zone 2) speakers. I have double checked cabling, confirmed speakers work outside by changing to the radio tuner, etc. I have power to the Optical to RCA converter with a red light On. So my guesses are:
    1) something has changed on the AppleTV not allowing output to both HDMI and Optical (new update make changes?)
    2) possibly the converter isn't working although it is showing power and I have done nothing with that box since setting this up a couple of years ago
When I look into audio settings I see "auto" and 16bit for output, Dolby Digital auto, on, or off, but nothing that specifically calls out optical.
    Any ideas?

Well,  chalk one up for Alley_Cat. I went back to the drawing board and started playing around with various settings to see what I could find out. After playing around with the various listening modes, I noticed I could not get the receiver to play in "Stereo" mode in Zone 1 at all - everything coming from the center channel. Did some research and found I needed to push a button on the remote D/ST (Direct/Stereo..I think) and that fixed my Zone 1 issue. Thinking that would solve the Zone 2 issue, I checked those speakers and still nothing. After playing with it some more, I took one last look at the back of the receiver and noticed in my frustration earlier I put the RCA plugs in the "out" jacks and not the "in". Switched those and lo and behold worked again.
To be clear, the mis-aligned RCA jacks was not the original problem, and I cant say for sure it was the D/ST button because I tried a number of things before switching the jack locations...but it is fixed for now. Fingers crossed it will stay that way! Thanks.

  • HDMI and PC inputs do not work on my 37AV502R LCD TV

HDMI inputs and PC inputs do not work consistently
my Apple TV (HDMI) and computers 2 on HDMI, 1 on PC, display just fine n the TV but after a while the TV goes blank,
the time is not consistent sometime a few minutes, sometimes a few hours,
but every time, after the TV goes blank there is nothing I can do, the TV just stays blank, if I unplug and turn back on the TV displays the image for a split second and goes bank again,
I thought it might be an overheating thing, however sometimes the PC input will stop working but the HDMI input (either one) will work fine,
has anyone else had this issue?
    Thanks
    A.

I'm having the same issue.  As soon as I connect it to VGA or HDMI, it goes into a cycle of flashing on-and-off.  A guy on youtube had the same problem (posted a video identical to my problem) and reportedly fixed it with a firmware update.
The problem: the US website doesn't have a firmware download.  The canadian website does, but the update is from 4/2009, and the manufactured date on the back of my TV is 5/2009.  (I also tried the update, but it didn't fix the problem).
When I call Toshiba to ask about the firmware update, after they confirm I am out of warranty, their automated system keeps hanging up on me.  So frustrating.

  • How do I connect my MacBook Pro to an LCD TV (with HDMI and S-Video ports)?

How do I connect my MacBook Pro to an LCD TV (with HDMI and S-Video ports)?  I assume I would need to use the DVI to Video adapter that came with my computer to connect to my LCD tv.  I'm just not sure which port I should use on the TV.  The HDMI port is being used for digital cable.
Also, does anyone know if this can be done wirelessly?

For a 2010+ MBP you can connect with a Displayport to HDMI, which will include Audio.
With older MBP you will need a displayport to HDMI, if you want audio to the actually TV, then you will need to get a cable with either digital out from MBP to the HDMI, or USB audio mixed into the HDMI

  • How can I do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder which does not have firewire out/input? it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite RCA output?

I need to do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder (http://store.sony.co...ber=HDRAX2000/H) ..this camcorder model does not have firewire out/input ..it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite A/V video output..
I wonder how can I plug this camcorder to the firewire port of my laptop? Browsing on internet I found that Grass Valley Company produces this converter http://www.amazon.co...=A17MC6HOH9AVE6 ..but I am not sure -not even after checking the amazon reviews- if this device will send the video signal through firewire to my laptop, in order to live streaming properly? ..anyone in this forum could help me please?
    Thanx

I can't broadcast with the built in iSight webcam... how would I zoom in or zoom out? or how would I pan? I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera...  is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...

  • How do I set MacBook to an external display when the plug and play doesn't recognize it?  I am trying to set my Samsung 530 LCD as a monitor but HDMI and VGA cords (and the adaptor for them) doesn't seem to work.

I have tried everything I can find on line but they all claim that the plug and play works, and they don't for me.  I tried the mini dvi to HDMI and a HDMI cord and that was not recognized no matter which unit I rebooted first.  I found someone who said that my Macbook might be too old for the HDMI technology so I returned the cords and went to the VGA cord and adaptor.
I tried this first with the HDMI setup:

Then I tried this with the VGA setup:

I contacted Samsung support and they said I needed to set the display settings to external display on the mac.  I went to the display settings and moved the icon to my status bar.  When I click on search for displays or whatever it says (I'm not at my Mac right now) it does nothing.
    What am I missing?

I am using MAC OSx 10.5.8 (9L31a) as my operation system.  The TV says "No signal.  Check connected device's power, cable connection and source selection."  Seems to me that that goes in hand with what the Samsung tech said about the Mac needing to be forces to use the external display.  But how do I do that?

  • HDMI and DVI port not working on 880GMA-E35

    Hello,
I want to use the HDMI port of my 880GMA-35, but the monitor is not getting a signal. I know that the board has two jumpers to switch between the DVI and the HDMI port. In the delivery state the jumper is set to HDMI, but I don't get a signal. There is also no signal, if I switch the jumper to the DVI pins. I have tested this setup which different cables (HDMI and DVI) and two different monitors.
After this test I get a guarantee replacement of the board. The new board is also not working with HDMI or DVI. The VGA port of the first board was working as supposed and I don't see any Bios settings to activate the monitor ports.
Are there any suggestions to solve my problem?
Thanks in advance and kindly regards
    Daniel

Was just on the phone with Apple about this.
The solution was as follows for me anyway...
    Go to your Finder
    Choose the Go Menu
    Choose Computer
    Choose your Macintosh Hard Drive
    Choose your "Library" Folder
    Choose the "Preferences" Folder
There should be a folder called "Audio"
Move that whole folder to the trash
    Empty the Trash
    Restart from the Apple Menu
    When you are back up and running;
Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu
         Choose Sound
In the output tab you should now be able to make the HDMI "Sticky"
Enjoy your sound over HDMI and no more dirty knees or broken backs unplugging the desktop speakers!

Could be a bad cable or bad Thunderbolt port.

Regarding the HDMI and Optical, yes they are both active, I have HDMI to TV and OA to soundbar, both work simultaneously and stand alone too.
