HDCP problem on Netflix?

Streaming on Netflix has been working for me perfectly fine for the past 2 years that I've had the ATV 2. Now all of a sudden I am getting an HDCP error when trying to finish watching a show on Netflix which was just streaming fine 10 minutes ago.
I've tried all the troubleshootings, from checking the HDMI cable to switching it around. I've also restarted the ATV. Streaming works fine everywhere else, I'm just getting this HDCP problem through Netflix all of a sudden.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated... thanks!

High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection(HDCP; commonly, though incorrectly, referred to as High-Definition Copy(right) Protection) is a form of digital copy protectiondeveloped by Intel Corporation to prevent copying of digital audio and video content as it travels across connections. Types of connections include DisplayPort (DP),Digital Visual Interface (DVI), and High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), as well as less popular, or now defunct, protocols like Gigabit Video Interface(GVIF) and Unified Display Interface(UDI).
Meaning, someone doesn't want you to be able to play the movie on the screen because of copyright reasons.
Sorry. (I know, DRM sukcs!!)

  • HDCP Problem.... Unhappy Customer :(

Well, I have always been happy with Apple products... Until now
Got my shiny new AppleTV, all excited to use it, got my daughter excited to rent a movie for her and blammo! Error!
"This content requires HDCP for playback. HDCP is not supported by your HDMI connection."
The problem is, my TV does in fact support HDCP via HDMI.
I spent an hour on the phone with Apple Support. I was told it is either my TV or my HDMI cable. So I call Panasonic (TV model: PT-50LCX63) and they tell me that if the HDMI connection is displaying a picture, then the TV is fine and it must be the cable...
So of course I head over to BestBuy and get myself the best darn cable they have (well just about). I did not spend the extra $$$ on Monster cables but I did by a good HDMI cable which says it supports blueray and all that jazz so it should work, right?
    Nope.
Hook it up, fire up the AppleTV, link up with my macbook to access a movie I bought from iTunes and get the same freakin' error!
    Now what?
If it's not AppleTV, not my TV and not the cable, what then? Me?
I can access music, movie previews all the menus, but not movies...
Do I just return the thing and give up?

Am having the same HDCD problem on Netflix, am using a 2 year old Samsung 40" 720p LCD, model LA40S71BX connected directly to the ATV via HDMI.
My HD cable box and HDX Media centre play just fine via HDMI, Netflix gets stuck with the HDCP error, sometimes it plays the first 2 seconds of video before showing the error.
I have tried all the steps outlined below:
Recycle power on both devices, in all possible combos: Failed
New $25 HDMI 1.3b HDCP compliant cales: Failed
Swapped the cables with 3 other HDMI cables: Failed
Set 'Energy Saving' option on the Samsung to 'Off' (worked for some): Failed
    Reset Apple TV: Failed
Am calling the Samsung service tech to take a look, its still under extended warranty...hopefully there is a solution. If something else worked for someone please do post!

  • Random HDCP errors with Netflix

I've been getting random HDCP problems when streaming from Netflix, the error message "This content requires HDCP for playback".  Have tried the various fixes discussed here (swapping out my HDMI cable, power-cycling the ATV 2).  Some days it works, some days it doesn't, and it's getting very frustrating.  I have a Sony Blu-ray player that also streams Netflix, and it works fine.  I prefer the interface of the ATV 2, but I'm getting fed up with it working only inconsistently.  Also...I was under the impression HDCP is some sort of DRM for downloaded movies, why would/should this even apply to streaming Netflix content??

Swapping HDMI cable was a sensible thing to try.
I would also test another HDMI input if you have one.
I can't get Netflix in UK but would assume Netflix may require HDCP to prevent copying of it's streams - the big companies want to prevent you from copying/recording shows/movies irrespective of how you watch them.

  • Problem with netflix after upgrading to firefox 6

now that I have upgraded to firefox 6 I can't instant watch netflix anymore. please help I'd rather not have to use a different browser to do this.

    '''SOLUTION'''
The problem with Netflix streaming with the FireFox 6.0 version is that the Netflix service '''refuses '''version 6.0 because they are A) unwilling to license it '''''or''''' B) too lazy or stupid to add the new version to their User Agent acceptance scheme. C) under contract to MICROSOFT to use Silverlight and part of Silverlight's DRM is what Browser versions are acceptable and Microsoft is taking their sweet time updating Silverlight to push I.E. on people and if you have Beta 5 Silverlight forget that -------Until Netflix accepts Firefox 6.0 as a legitimate Netflix browser '''you may do what I have done to get Firefox 6.0 streaming at Netflix.'''
    1) Open Firefox 6.0 and enter "www.whatsmyua.com" without quotations in the address bar and highlight and copy your present User Agent string from the top of that page when you get there.
    2) Type "ABOUT:CONFIG" without quotations in the Firefox address bar and hit enter then answer the You might destroy the world question with Alright I'm ready.
    3) Right click on the background of the Config screen and then highlight to click on the "New String" choice... When the box comes up enter "general.useragent.override" without quotations and hit return
    4) When another box appears paste in your current User Agent string you copied in step 1) BEFORE hitting enter place your cursor on your paste and right arrow to the end of the line. EDIT/REPLACE "6.0" with "5.0.1" without the quotations. Enter your change and close out the Config page.
    5) Repeat step 1) to make sure the User Agent string is now spoofing your browser as version 5.0.1
    6) Go to Netflix and watch movies (Make sure Silverlight and the Firefox Java are on). If it was working before the upgrade, everything should now work again streaming Netflix with Firefox 6.0.
    7) Call Netflix and tell them Dave sent you to see if they're stupid or just lazy and to quit spreading the B.S. that Firefox 6.0 ain't workin when we know it's Netflix (1-866-636-3076)

  • "HDCP" problems on my macbook.

For some reason, TV shows that I have purchased recently will now no longer play due to apparent "HDCP" problems on my macbook pro, help! This hasn't been an issue before and I haven't changed any settings at all.

The TV Show you have purchased is most likley in 1080p and requires HDCP.
    iTunes Store says it clearly:
Note: If you are trying to view HD video on an external display, the display must have a digital connection (DVI, DisplayPort, or HDMI) and also support HDCP

  • Problem playing Netflix

Hi all, I'm new to the apple, but have been converted after getting the iPad 2 and iPhone 4s. Just got a apple tv but am having problems using Netflix, it keeps freezing and buffering, it does this for about 30 seconds then plays ok for a while and then it happens again. Not sure if this is an apple or Netflix issue.
I have plenty of bandwidth as I have a 50mbps connection.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    James.

No DNS setting are the same have never changed them. Think I will have to assume that it's Netflix and hope they sort it out at some point.
It's a shame as its the only downside to a fantastic product.
    James.

  • HDCP problem

    Hi!
Ok, so I just bought a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to play iTunes HD movies on my TV (Samsung 6755, pretty sure it supports HDCP). I read alot about HDCP problem when searching, but couldnt find my issue anywhere.
Ok, so my problem is pretty wierd. I can't play movies on my TV using it as an external display (not mirrored) and the lid closed on my new macbook pro (2 months old), I get the HDCP error message. But the wierd thing is that I can play the movie with the lid open. And I can play the movie with the image mirrored with the lid closed and open.
So not the worst problem, but I would like to play the movie without mirroring the image and being able to close the lid. Because when I mirror the image, I only get the resolution on my macbook pro. And when I can't close the lid, the laptop uses resources to the internal display, right? The movie seems to be a bit choppier.
Anyone know a fix for this issue?
    Thanks

I also have the HDCP error appearing on my Apple TV. I have a Toshiba 32BV700B HDTV. How do I upgrade or fix my TV to overcome this error. Thanks

  • Any Help For Yet Another HDCP For Playback/Netflix Problem?

I have a very complex set-up and had no problem streaming until the other night and I have tried every single solution I can find online under the sun so that is why I am posting here.
I have a Pioneer Receiver that I used a Terk Smart HDMI 3 x 1 Selector with and was able to stream Netflix with no problem.
This is how everything used to be set up:
    Pioneer Receiver
    Blu-ray IN
    HDMI OUT Terk
    DVD IN
    Panasonic DVD Recorder OUT
    OUT
    Panasonic LCD TV HDMI 1
    Terk HDMI 3 x 1 Selector
    OUT
    Pioneer Receiver Bluray IN
    Panasonic Bluray Player
    Input 1
    AppleTV (3rd Gen.)
    Input 2
    Mac Mini (2010)
    Input 3
Now here's the rub:  I also have a PS3.  I used to unplug either the ATV or Mini whenever I wanted to use it and I got tired of switching out so I bought a Monoprice 8 x 1 HDMI Selector.  The logic here being that I would have more than enough HDMI inputs to plug in everything.
When I first hooked up the Monoprice, I hooked the OUT from it into the Bluray IN on the Pioneer and then hooked all of the HDMI cables from all of the various electronics into the INputs on it.  Tested all of them to see that it autoselected whatever I had chosen and even was able to stream on NF.
This is how I have everything hooked up now:
    Monoprice 8 x 1
    OUT
    Pioneer Receiver Bluray IN
    ATV
    Input 1
    Panasonic Bluray Player
    Input 2
    PS3
    Input 3
    Mac Mini
    Input 4
    Panasonic DVD Recorder*
    Input 5
*Bluray IN  and OUT are the only HDMI slots in use on the Pioneer Receiver using this hookup.
Now all of a sudden yesterday I went to stream NF via the ATV and I got that "This content requires HDCP for playback" error.
I did everything I could think of and also tried all of the suggestions I could find on the web.  I had already switched out the HDMI cables as I had bought new ones when I got the Monoprice.  So I hooked the Terk back up thinking it would "fix" things.  No dice.  I put the old HDMI cables back on.  No dice.  I have it hooked up now with the old HDMI cables and still no dice.  I unplugged everything and let it sit thinking I could force a new HDMI handshake.  NF started streaming for 5 seconds and froze -- and then the error message.
I also have a Scientific Atlanta DVR that the ATV is plugged into that the HDMI 2 of the Panasonic TV is connected via HDMI.  The Panasonic TV isn't "old" as I think I got it in late 2009 or late 2010, as it has more than enough HDMI inputs, component, and also a PC connection -- in case someone wanted to suggest the TV wasn't capable of handling the hookups. The ATV is running the latest version of the software.
This is really frustrating since it worked with no problem from the day I got the ATV and now after upgrading the switcher to get more HDMI inputs, everything went kaput.
And I just don't know what to do.
I'm not sure if having everything being dependent upon the Panasonic TV being powered on is affecting things, but it never affected things when I was using the 3 x 1 HDMI switch.  When I wanted to use the ATV, I'd press the Bluray input on the Pioneer receiver, hit the ATV remote and it would come on.  Click into NF and voila: streaming with no problems.
Currently, I still do the same thing -- and I can listen to the radio, stream in iTunes Match on the ATV.  It's just the NF issue that's really beyond me.  The only thing I can think of to try is to maybe put the DVR in the surge protector slot so that it has to be powered on so that everything else will power up instead of the TV?
I'm hoping someone has a suggestion that involves something other than restarting/restoring the ATV, or unplugging things for 30 seconds because I have tried everything I've come across.  I just don't know what to do but I really would like to be able to use NF on the ATV because I like the fact that it plays in Dolby, and I really don't want to have to go back to the PS3 to utilize that feature.
In the meantime, I guess I will switch the DVR on the surge protector with the TV and see what happens if I change the way things power up in the chain.

I am at a loss.  I thought I had a micro USB cord but since I didn't, I wasn't able to downgrade the software.
I did a complete restore for kicks.
    This is the current setup
    ATV HDMI
    Panasonic TV HMDI 2
    ATV optical output
    Pioneer Receiver
Again, all of the other devices run through the 8 x 1 switch box which is NOT powered on to use the ATV.
I get the HDCP error whenever I try to access the following:
    Netflix
    Trailers
    Vimeo
    WSJ Live
HHL and the other sports channels
    These work fine:
    Radio
    iTunes Match
    Podcasts
    Flickr
TV Shows and Movies because I tested both watching previews and they streamed perfectly
I've changed the settings on the ATV until I'm blue in the face and this is what they are currently:
    Dolby - Auto
    Audio Output - Auto
    HDMI Output - Auto
TV Resolution - 1080p HD - 60Hz -- and yes I've had it set on both "Auto" and 720p HD - 60Hz and neither stopped the error once it started happening
All of the equipment is HDCP compliant as I checked
The cable between the TV and ATV
    The 8 x 1 switch box
Panasonic TV specs -- it is HDCP compliant as I said in my 3rd post (according to the manual)
The Pioneer Receiver (for good measure)
I have no idea of what to do other than to hope that Apple does something with the next update to restore everything, as this HDCP issue is really beyond annoying and it's clear 5.2 broke something.  In the meantime, I really am open to suggestions to try something else other than smashing the ATV with a hammer

  • HDCP error on netflix

When using the latest safari and using Netflix there is an error message saying this monitor is not HDCP compatible.  This only happens when routing audio through HDMI and using the monitors DVI connection for a picture.  HDMI is only used for audio which is does a very good job with Firefox that uses Silverlight.  Netflix says the problem arises with Safari because Safari uses HTML 5......

    greg272 wrote:
HDMI cable from ATV to TV.
Then you should try an alternate cable.

  • Problem with netflix after update!

Since I update my Apple TV my netflix became useless. Every time that I try to watch something it starts very well but suddenly the video start from the beginning again and the audio continues normally. Any sugestions?

I am eperiencing the same problem but with a second Apple Cinema Display. The Netflix buttons in Safari will not respond to left mouse clicks on any monitor that is not the Main monitor (the one with the menu bar). If I open Firefox it will work as expected on any monitor. But Safari no longer responds.
    No fix yet.

  • HDCP problems

Updated Apple TV software today and am having problems with HDCP. Now I'm constantly getting this message "This content requires HDCP for playback. HDCP isn't supported by your HDMI connection." I've followed all the advice here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4428
I occasionally got this error message before but switching both TV and AppleTV off and then back on resolved it. Now I can't get it resolved it at all. It shows when I try to use airplay from my ipad 1 and from iTunes on my MacBook Pro. The only video I can get to play via Airplay are some music videos that are copy protected. None protected videos won't play despite the fact they used to be ok.
Is this a software problem or is there anything else I can try.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had tried switching ipad off but no difference so I took your suggestion and switched off my router (old style airport extreme).
Tried to play video from ipad using Airplay, still wouldn't work and got HDCP error message. I then opened Remote app (my Mac Book pro was on across the room). Went to exactly the same video on itunes and it played perfectly well. So at least some progress.
However there still appears to be a problem when trying to play material that is on the ipad. All very bizarre.

  • HDCP problems with DirecTV and Toshiba 34HFX84

DirecTV pushed an update over the weekend and now I can't watch HBO because my system is not concluding that I have HDCP compliance.
My 34HFX84 is listed as HDCP Compliant. Toshina support validated this, and suggested it could be the cable, saying something about version 1.4 or greater.
    My questions:
    1) Does this make sense? How do I find a version number of a HDMI cable?
    2) Has anyone else seen this?

Could be Toshiba support is correct; changing to a HDMI 1.4 cable might actually fix the problem -
    http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_1_4/hdmi_1_4_faq.aspx#1
    from the link -
"The HDMI 1.4 specification adds a data channel to the HDMI connection, enabling high-speed, bi-directional communication. "
"Will content distribution and recording be possible in a system connected via the HDMI Ethernet Channel?
Yes. The HDMI Ethernet Channel allows connected devices to share digital content in its native format. For instance, if it is protected by HDCP encryption, it will stay in its encrypted format, and can only be accessed if all the devices in the system are HDCP-compliant. Unprotected content, such as digital HD broadcast programming or user-generated HD video, will of course be free of any content protection."
No guarantees, but the info in the linked article sure makes it look like a 1.4 cable replacement might solve a lot of "gotcha" problems.

  • HD Fury to solve HDCP Problem

    Hi guys,
I urgently need your help with the following problem:
I have a "Sony PFM-42V1" Plasma TV that doesn't support HDMI. Therefore I am using a HDMI to DVI converter. Picture quality is great, but unfortunately my TV doesn't support HDCP, so I can't watch any movies...
Now I am wondering if this HD Fury could solve my problems?
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011402&pid=4559&seq=1&format=2
I just checked the specs and it says that my TV has an analog RGB/YUV input and a resolution of "854 x 480 (WVGA)".
I have to admit that I my technical know how is very limited, so I am not sure if it means that it can't support "720p (1280x720) and 1080p (1920x1080)" as required?
If so, do you know another HD Fury that should work?
Thank you so much for your help. It's highly appreciated.
    All the best,
    duersen

In premiere I can control the camera, I can capture sound, but I cannot capture video
If you can capture sound, you also capture video, because it is a transport stream, and nothing more than a digital transfer of binary data. There is no way you can only capture sound and not video, because they are in the same data stream. You can limit import into your project to audio only, or video only, but the captured stream always includes both audio and video. So check your import settings or use HDVSplit, a free capture utility to capture.

  • Loaded atv 4.2.2 problem with netflix login.  Has anyone solved this problem?

Cannot login to Netflix on Apple TV after the 4.2.2 update.  Ihave done a restore, unplugged and restarted, called netflix and they changed password.  Was able to login to Netflix on Mac Air.  Netflix says call apple.

I am also having this, and I am 4.4.3.  I'm guessing it's a problem with the Netflix app and how it send the password.  It seems that only passwords containing all numbers work, but I would like to have a more secure password protecting my Netflix account.

  • Firefox problems with Netflix

Netflix rebuffers so much it's hard to watch a movie...Comcast says Firefox is the problem & I should change to another browser. Comments about this? Anyone with same problem? Thanks...

Try clearing your cache: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/How to clear the cache How to clear the cache] .
It seems likely that a buffering issue is more with your ISP than with your browser. Make sure you don't have any downloads going (including things like windows updates, etc.) and any other windows or tabs that could be trying to download information (like a windows with a Youtube video buffering as well).
