HDD and RAm in Compaq Presario V4000

I have inherited a Compaq Presario V4000.  I have to replace the HDD and would like to know the largest I can install.  Also, I want to increase the memory from 512 and would like to know if I have to install in equal pairs and the largest amount of memory I can install.
Thanks

The hard drive will certainly work. The memory, however, is not compatible with the 2009 MBP.

  • HDD and RAM Upgrade Questions...

I am thinking about upgrading my HDD and memory. My computer is a Qosmio X870-BT3G23. HDD is about 1TB and also have 12GB RAM. I am not sure how to upgrade my RAM as I heard the other 2 memory slots are not user accessable. How would I go about upgrading HDD and transfer all my stuff over? I think my computer has slots for 2 HDDs, but not sure... Thoughts on both HDD and RAM upgrade appreciated
    Qosmio X870-BT3G23

Skeet, here are the SPECIFICATIONS for your machine if you have not seen them.  And on pages 44-53 of your User's Guide is a very thorough description of the adding memory process. As far as transferring files are concerned, at the Start screen, type Easy Transfer, hit Enter and follow instructions.
The specifications indicate you can have 16GB memory in the two accessible memory slots without concerning yourself about the 2 hidden slots. I personally can't imagine why anyone could need more than 16GB memory and 1TB HDD but, of course, that's your call.

  • MacBook 7,1 HDD and RAM upgrade advice and brand recommendations

    Question
I'm upgrading a MacBook 7,1 from it's original HDD and RAM and I'm wanting to get ideally 8 GB RAM (2x4GB RAM) and a 1TB@7200RPM HDD. What brands do people recommend?
    Reasoning
I now need to do a lot more video editing on this MacBook (FCPX, Motion 5, Compressor 4) and don't have the money now to get a new MacBook Pro, especially considering my current MacBook has only been in use for 1.5 years.
Also, If anyone has a better suggestion than upgrading my HDD and RAM, or doesn't think these upgrades will function well with my MacBook, please tell me.
    MacBook 7,1 original specs
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
    2GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Memory @ 5400 RPM
    250 GB HDD

Faster RAM will have a great chance to lead to problems. If it works it will not be noticeably faster; The bus speed is still 1066. Ram being cheap I would either put in more ram and not faster ram, buy from high reputation suppliers like Crucial, OWC.
The 7200 will not lead to problems, be sure that it is compatible, the fastest way to replace if you are using (snow) leopard OS: make a clone of the existing drive to the new one, boot from it when still outside, to test;  replace the internal disk with the new one, et voila...

  • Upgrade Video Card and CPU - HP Compaq Presario CQ56-160SQ

Product name: HP Presario Compaq CQ56-160SQ

    Changes: Not yet!
    Hi,
I have a question, and I am wondreing if someone can explain to me what is with this "free" slot from my laptop:
Here is a link with the prinscreen that prooves that I have a free PCI-E slot x16: http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/9830/14782972.png
    1. Can I add in that slot a video card? Can someone tell me what type of card?(an example)
    2. I want to upgrade my CPU from AMD Athlon II P320 to AMD Phenom II P960. I checket all the specs, compared all the slots, TPD, and I think that it might work.
    What do you say?
Can I upgrade my CPU to AMD Phenom II P960?

    Hey, adiv093.
The slot you're referring to is being occupied with the wireless card. That is not a free slot for you to use.
To answer the processor question. No, you cannot upgrade to that.
Here is a picture of all the processors the notebook will take.

  • Installing 2nd HDD and RAM: ??'s on installing and performance

    Hi folks,
I bought a 2nd HDD (Maxtor's Maxline 500 GB Sata2) and 2GB (2x1GB) for my G5. A friend has offered to help install the items during his lunch hour seeing that my hands are deformed by arthritis. Can both be installed under an hour? I'd hate to have him come to my place to find out this requires a longer time.
For the HDD: The G5 came with a stock Maxtor 160 GB (6Y160M0) in Bay A. Should i keep this as the boot drive or would I see a nice difference if I had the new Maxtor 500 as the boot drive? Should I swap bays or doesn't matter?
For the RAM: The G5 came with 2x512GB sticks and it has 8 DIMM slots:
    D-C-B-512 || 512-B-C-D
Should i simply pop the new RAM sticks in the B-B slots or would there be a performace increase if i pop the new in the A-A slots and move the 512 to the B-B slots?
Thanx in advance for any tips and recommendations,
    Frank

Easily installed in under an hour. Piece of cake. I agree with Jeff that I like to keep the bigger drive in the A bay, but it's more a matter of perosnal preference than performance. If the new drive is inherently faster than the stock drive (which I imagine it is), you'll see a slight performance increase if you make the 500GB your startup drive.
As for the RAM, I don't think it makes any difference, but I personally put the biggest sticks in "A" and work high to low as I got out to "D."
Hope we helped. Be sure to award points if we did.

  • Wich Brands use Apple use for HDDs and RAMS? Whats about Blu-Ray and Players?

    Hard Disks Brands for Example:
Western Digital, Seagate, Samsung, Hitachi, Maxtor, Corsair, Fujitsu, Plextor, Buffallo,  Iomega, Intenso, Teac, Trekstor, Toshiba, Verbatim, Sandsk ???
    Rams Brands Example:
Corsair, G-Skill, G.E.IL, OCZ, Kingston, Mushkin, Infineon, HP, LaCie, Verbatim, Sandisk, Sharkoon, Crucial, Extrem Memory, Lenovo, Patriot, Team Group, Transcend, Lenovo, Dolphin, Excelram, Silicon Power ???
When Apple Blu-Ray will support Mac OS X and and why there are no available? Otherwise I think apple cool even the concept, design and Operating System. Because of that i have to use Windows, BootCamp Parallels. Why thaht? Give us a Blu-Ray Player and supports in Mac Os without those other three thinks. Microsoft an Windows ***** ;-)

Apple uses a variety of sources for RAM and HD's, even though two machines can have identical specifications they can use different vendors for common products such as RAM and HD's.

  • Compaq Presario CQ61 - New WD3200BPVT HDD - Capacity incorrect

The original 320gb Hitachi Travelstar HDD died in my Compaq Presario CQ61.  I have just replaced it with a 320gb Western Digital Scorpio Blue (WD3200BPVT).  Using my original Windows 7 recovery discs I have now got the notebook up and running.
However, my issue is that explorer says that the capacity of my new disc is 67.9 GB.  Where has the other 250GB gone and how do I get them back ?

Possibly this is partitioned or not partioned at all. I would strongly suggest to call the tech support and run the recovery process one more time with them on the phone.

  • Compaq Presario CQ56, Caps Lock Blinks

    I have a Compaq Presairo CQ56-115DX.
I turned it on one day and the caps lock key's led blinks, at 3 second intervals. (Never stops, waited 4 or 5 hours)
I have looked at the page on HP support, I have tried hard reset, reseatingk, and replacing the CPU.
    Still an issue.
When I hard reset, I've tried with and without wifi, hdd and ram installed.

Here is a document on the Blinking lights -
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01443366&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
    they contain a code:
The LED lights near the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys will blink if an error is detected during the start up process. The LEDs will blink a number of times in a sequence and then stop. The number of blinks in the sequence indicates what component caused an error when it was being tested during start up.
If the LEDs stop blinking and the computer does not start, you can press the power button again to repeat the tests. Count the number of blinks, and use the chart to identify the error condition.
Knowing the number of blinks is helpful when you contact an HP support agent for technical help.
Caps Lock/Num Lock LED Component Tested Error Condition
    LEDs blink 1 time

    CPU not functional
    LEDs blink 2 times
    BIOS

  • Hard Drive and RAM errors

I have a 2010 macbook pro (unibody design). I bought it on craigslist to fix and it needed a HDD and RAM. I purchased DDR3 RAM for it and sometimes it beeps 3 times during POST and sometimes it boots up fine. I m running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) so I downloaded the mountain lion installer from the app store. When I click on the disk "Macintosh HD" to install it, i says the disk has "S.M.A.R.T. errors-the disk has a hardware problem that can't be repaired". The disk installed snow leopard off my CD and it worked fine in the PC that I took it from before I formatted it. Also sometimes when I pick up the laptop, It will shut down and not turn back on! Does anybody have any idea what is wrong with my computer? I am trying to fix it up to sell it but it is not letting me install mountain lion. Thank you!

It Shows A Tonne Of "SAM Multimedia" Errors
Do you have Symantec Antivirus for Macintosh (SAM) installed? If so, it's likely your troublemaker if, as the others have pointed out, you really have the proper install disks. Get rid of SAM--it does more harm than good.
You'll probably have to boot from a system fisk to get access to SAM and neuter it enough for removal. Google this:
    symantec antivirus removal tool mac
You'll find a tonne of sites that have removal instructions.

  • HP Envy replacing HDD and warranty conditions

    Hi there,
I have an HP Envy 3012tx, I am looking to replace the hard drive that is in the laptop in the moment, however I have had some issues with the laptop so I want to ensure that this will not void my warranty.
Can someone please confirm that this will not void the warranty?
    Cheers

    Hi,
Under normal conditions, upgrading HDD and RAM would not void warranty.
    Hope this helps.

  • Compaq Presario- New Hdd replacement 303 and start up failed error

    Hello,
Have an Issue with my Compaq Presario CQ56 laptop which started getting a harddisk failure via SMART check. Decided to get a new WD harddrive, size 320g, same as original drive. Tried to recover via recovery CD's I made when I first got the the Laptop. Kept getting stuck at 83% tried 4 times, stuck at same place each time. Ran a test in BIOS and got two failures; Start up test Failed and Harddrive 303 failure.Decided to try another new WD harddrive and, as well, with the original HP recovery CDS. After trying to recover it today was unsuccessful once again. Did the test once again in BIOS and got Start up test failed and Harddrive 303 failure.
Need help narrowing down to what the issue is here. When the first WD harddrive was taken back to the store they checked and it worked fine for them but returned it anyways. Tried another one and still same issue. I'm prety sure its not the new harddrive and not the 2 set of recovery CDS.
I'm confused and need assistance. What could be causing this problem?

    K87,
It sounds like either the SATA cable/ connection or the motherboard. When you are replacing the hard drivers do they just slide into place, or is there a small cable that you have to connect to it? The likelihood  of having 3 bad hard drives is rare I have never personally come across that issue.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.
    Thanks

  • Compaq Presario CQ56 beep while working and working temperature

    Hi,
I Have a Compaq Presario CQ56 with Windows 7 Ultimate (32Bit), ADM V140 CPU, 2GB of DDR3 RAM and an AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4250, and a SAMSUNG 250GB HDD.
While i am playing some random games like Need for Speed Carbon, Need for Speed World on Low-Medium graphics, i hear a long beep and then a click from the laptop, somewhere from the DVD-RW Drive. It only occured twice do far. The laptop works normal tho after the beeps.
Also, the temerature is worrying me, it goes up to 75C while playing, but goes down to 60-65 while internet and around 54 while idle (lid closed).
Sorry for my grammar i am Serbian.
    Thanks in advance!

Those temperatures are a bit high, but still well within normal range. We see a lot of people reporting temperatures in the 90C ranges. The beep is a mystery to me.
