HDD & Bluetooth questions

Well Im getting a Macbook for school. Only thinks I dont like about it are the single button trackpad since I will be using Bootcamp and the small size and costs for upgrading the internal HDD. My first questions is.
What suggestions do you have for Bluetooth mice that dont spaz out at random times. (I dont know exactly how bluetooth works but how long do the batteries generally last and how do i recharge?)
Then my second questions is is it possible to not only partition the Mac internal HDD for Windows and Mac Os but also external HDDs? (Is firewire better or usb for univeral uses?)
Thank you

You can recharge a rechargeable battery by putting it in a battery charger designed to operate on that type of battery, and plugging it in.
The instructions on this page can be used to partition an external drive so that it contains both Mac OS Extended and FAT32 or NTFS partitions. You should use a FireWire drive, or a model which has both FireWire and USB 2.0 ports.

  • Satellite L50-A-19N HDD upgrade question

    Hi,
I would like to upgrade the standard HGST HDD to a faster Seagate SSHD, and the problem is that in this model L50-A-19N there is no HDD cover, the whole laptop bottom must be removed like in this Link: [Video|http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IG0lW7t92bI]
My question is can I upgrade the Disk by Myself and if not what can I do to replace the Disk not losing the warranty. I read the manual for this model and there is nothing about HDD upgrades there.
    Regards.

Usually on most notebook models HDD is placed at the bottom and access to it is not complicated. As you can see on your notebook model it is not so easy and HDD exchange is not supported. With other words it should not be done by notebook owner.
Valid warranty is very important so please don't do anything on your own. HDD exchange in your case can be done by authorized service provider. If they do this warranty will not be cancelled.
Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. Addresses and phone numbers you can find on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/ASP_SUPPORT/
    Good luck

  • A few HDD compatibility questions?

    Okay so here goes..
Hey, everything in my house is filling up, i need more disk space, so i have a mbp 13" 2009 model, & a imac 2010 (i think)
So, I do a lot of movie editing, thus the reason everything is filling up. I'm going to get one more HDD and probably sell my other one.
Now, at this point, I dont know whether im going to get the hdd for my mpb or imac. It is probably going to my iMac and the 500 gb HDD that comes out of the imac will go in my mbp & the mbp HDD I will most probably sell. So, i have a few questions..
1.Will my macbook pro be compatible with the 500GB HDD out of the iMac?
2.What HDD's are compatible with the iMac?*
3.Do you have to keep to the same RPM in HDD'S as the original HDD was?
4.Does anyone have any suggestions to which HDD I pick for movie editing and an iMac?
*I need a fast one for movie editing, quiet, & really I want it to be 1TB at the lowest price. I googled 1tb sata 5400rpm HDD and I had a look at this..
    http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?hl=en&safe=off&client=safari&rls=en&q=5 400+rpm+1tb+sata&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&biw=1270&bih=640&um=1&ie=UTF-8 &tbm=shop&cid=5711460668069696497&sa=X&ei=yN0fUKKwCqi-0QX97IHIDQ&ved=0CG0Q8wIwAQ #scoring=tps
Now, I had a look at the reviews and one of them said "not fast so not good with movie editing, thats what made me ask on here..
Any more details needed just ask, please reply, no rush.
    Cheers,
    Chris

cheers mate, actually a BIG help so you can have a BIG hug

  • New MBP 13" w/ Upgrade HDD/RAM question ??

Just received MacBook Pro 13" 2.26, along with larger HDD/RAM from 3rd party online retailer.
Question - Do I just upgrade HDD/RAM even before I start MBP for the first time? OR do I start MBP first do the registration, etc. THEN replace HDD/RAM afterwards?? Does it matter?
Also, using RESTORE disc on blank HDD will install EVERYTHING to factory default setting (apps, etc)??

I know it takes time but I would continue with the install just to make sure the stock HD is ok.
Yes, once you install your 3rd party HD you can use your install Disk. When you install your new hard drive you need to put in the install Disk and format your new HD before loading the install.
Here are the steps I use:
    1. Put in your install Disk (make sure it's the INSTALL DISK #1)
    2. Remove old HD and install new HD.
    3. Restart Computer and hold down the Option, Command, P, R keys all at the same time (this is known as resetting PRAM) until I hear 3 bong sounds...then release all keys. I would recommend if you haven't done this yet to practice.
    4. After I release the keys I turn OFF the computer by holding the down on the power button until the power goes off.
5 Press the power button and before the first bong press and HOLD the C key until I see the spinning spoke wheel...then release the C key.
6 Once booted to the install Disk #1 go to disk utilities and format the new HD drive using the GUID partition table.
    7. Start the install.

  • External HDD enclosure questions

Hello, I just recently swapped out my factory HDD in my 2012 MBP for a Crucial 256GB SDD. I'm very pleased with the speed and the installation was a breeze! (Thanks to Bimmer 7 Series who's step by step reference guide helped me out alot)
I have a couple of questions or would just like a few opinions regarding what I should with my factory HDD? It's now in a enclosure and everything seems to be running fine. On top of the Hibatchi HDD (or whatever the apple factory HDD is) I also have a WD 500 GB regular external hard drive that I bought some time ago for time machine backups.
    Ok so here's my question:
    1) What do you recommend I do with the Hibatchi 750 GB HD? Should I leave it as is in case something happens, clone my SDD to it, use it for Time machine backup, etc..? I'm thinking I'm going to need one of them for storing large files that I don't need immediate access to, since the SSD isn't too much space. And the other one just a straight clone.
    2) Kind of off topic, but do you think upping my RAM to 16GB from 8GB is worth it? My laptop seems to be blazing fast already but I do use RAM hungry apps like ProTools, Logic, Reason, and Ableton Live.
I was also having a problem with the Hibtachi HDD in the enclosure. When I plugged it in to the USB, my comp didn't recognize the HDD and did not mount. I tried opening up disk utility and I could view it there, but when I tried to erase/create Mac Journal it said something about it being unable to mount...
Sorry for the blabber but if anyone could give me some of their tips/tech opinion I would greatly appreciate it.
BTW if you're on the fence of upgrading to SSD... DO IT!!! It's well worth the $$$ and installation is a breeze.

The one question many of us are asking ourselves with the new and much vaunted USB3 ports that come in this year's Macs: do they also have the miserable 0.5A current limit of USB2 or not? Back in the day, that seemed an awful lot, but with modern monster drives it really falls short. Imagine trying to drive a 3TB HDD, which is virtually available in any corner store nowadays. And Hitachi promised reaching an 8-10TB record on a single spindle before the year is out.
As for the memory, been enjoying the following for the past three weeks, can't believe how fast the Mac has become. Cost me about the same and from the same place. Only difference is mine IS Mac-certified, although the specs appear to be the same, in speed and CAS timing. Go for it!

  • Erase HDD and Question Mark??

    Hi,
i erased my hdd and unfortunately i shutted down the mac. Now, there is a flashing question mark at startup. When i try the connect recovery mode, it only connect internet recovery. After a 15 minutes later it gives an error that "2002f". There is a SSD in mac.
So, how can i install os x again, please helpp?

Hello c_arslan and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
    "i erased my hdd"
How did you do that and why? How far did it procede?
    "i shutted down the mac"
How were you able to do that? By pressing the power key for longer than 5 seconds? SSDs don't like loss of power while they're writing/operating.
"there is a flashing question mark at startup"
It's saying that it can't find a bootable operating system so it can't start up. Not surprising if you erased the hard drive.
If it's not too far gone you can try internet recovery:
OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
    Do you have backups?

  • FORD TRANSIT CONNECT VAN bluetooth question

The Ford Transit van uses Nokia bluetooth . I have a question regarding connectivity .

    Hi JeffinMass
It's probably more which Nokia device you are trying to use with it that's the issue here. Unfortunately Nokia Bluetooth connectivity never seems as universal as say any Sony Ericsson device.

  • Macbook 7.1 (mid-2010) RAM and hdd upgrade questions!

    Hello!
In a bit of impulsiveness, I have just acquired a Apple laptop: a lightly used Macbook 7.1 (released mid-2010 and discontinued, 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo). This is my first Apple computer!
I want to upgrade just a wee bit to squeeze a bit more performance out of what is currently probably a mid to low end laptop. Two questions:
    1) I know this Macbook takes 1066 MHz DDR memory. But I have two 2 GB sticks of 1333 MHz PC3-10600 DDR3 SODIMM. Can I put those in? Or do I have to get 1066 sticks?
    2) I'd like to put a 7200 rpm hdd in it. Will there be any potential issues with heat? (I'm assuming a 7200rpm drive generates more heat than a 5400rpm drive.)
    Thanks!!!!

Faster RAM will have a great chance to lead to problems. If it works it will not be noticeably faster; The bus speed is still 1066. Ram being cheap I would either put in more ram and not faster ram, buy from high reputation suppliers like Crucial, OWC.
The 7200 will not lead to problems, be sure that it is compatible, the fastest way to replace if you are using (snow) leopard OS: make a clone of the existing drive to the new one, boot from it when still outside, to test;  replace the internal disk with the new one, et voila...

  • Ram and hdd upgrade questions

Hay; i'm a apple newbe so forgive me if any of the questions are basic ones.
I've been trying my hand at things like garageband using a emac that I purchased on ebay but would like to upgrade the ram and the hdd.
Any answers to any of the below would be extremely helpfull - fyi, about this mac says I have a powermac6.4.
    Ram:
Google says that my model can take 2gb of ddr333 ram but only 1 gb is supported; is there some kind of issue that arises when one installs more than 1gb?
Also, should I get low or high dencity ram?
    Hdd:
Installing ram seems easy enough, but instructions for installing the hdd seem to differ per site that I visit. Would someone be able to link me to some instructions for my model that are known to be correct?
Idealie i'd like to put a 250gb drive in there, but i'm wondering if this would result in 48lba issues?
Just out of interest, how much of a speed boost can I expect when going from 5400 rpm to 7200?
Also, I have noticed that my apple is quite noisy; whilst it doesn't sound like a worringly noisy computer, how much noise of this is due to the harddrive?
    Thanks for any answers.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions. No questions are too basic, as we all have to start somewhere.
Emac models are best differentiated by the CPU speed.
You can go to the Menu item  About this Mac will tell you the CPU speed.
From what you have said it sounds like a later model eMac.
is there some kind of issue that arises when one installs more than 1gb?
No, it is just that when these eMacs came out the highest RAM module made at the 333 Mhz speed was 512Mb. Later the manufacturers made 1Ghz modules, thus doubling the capacity from the original specifications. Keep in mind there are two slots for these modules. 1Ghz X 2 = 2 Ghz maximum.
Also, I have noticed that my apple is quite noisy; whilst it doesn't sound like a worringly noisy computer, how much noise of this is due to the harddrive?
None of it is due to the hard drive. Hard drive noise is intermittent and barely noticeable. The noise is the roaring of the fan. eMacs are notable for their robust and noisy fan.
Replacing the hard disk in an eMac requires quite some dissassembly.
Someone else may post disassembly links as I my old ones don't work anymore, and you may also get more detail about your RAM questions.

  • K7N2L Bluetooth question

    Hi
Ive have connected the D (bluetooth) bracket on my K7N2 L based system.
Can anyone tell me if I need to fit an antenna or does the transeiver on the D-Bracket perform this function?
I'm about to get an iPaq 5550 and want to connect to my PC via bluetooth and share my broadband connection for internet access.
Any tips or advice on how to set this up would be very welcome.
    Thanks
    Rob :-)

    Hello Wonkanoby
Thanks for the lightening fast reply!
I just have a few questions...
I presume that I can use any BT module or is it best to stick with the MSI kit.  Any recommendations?
I dont mean to state the obvious but I'm curious to know in what way the "dedicated" port differs from other USB ports.
    Thanks

  • Centro to Laptop Bluetooth Question

Recently purchased a Toshiba Bluetooth to allow my Centro to hotsync with my laptop.  Downloaded the latest Palm Centro software.  Palm Desktop ver 6.2.2 and hotsync ver 7.0.2    Still unable to establish connection?  Can anyone provide advice?
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

Shift your attention to the Windows Hotsync section of this Forum, where you will find USB drivers available to sync with 64bit systems.
You can then sync normally with your Hotsync cable.

  • Bluetooth Question - Mouse AND Keyboard?

Hey guys. I just bought a new MacBook. It's pretty sweet, I must say.
But I have one question. If I bought a wireless keyboard and the wireless mighty mouse, would I be able to use both? Because they both use Bluetooth (I'm talking about the official Apple ones) and I want to know if I can use both or if I can use just one before making a purchase.
    Thanks in advance.

Personally, I prefer the Apple ones. I have two sets to use with my computers.
Some people like the logitech ones. I just prefer to use the official ones - even if they are a little bit more pricey, they always work and feel so good.

  • 3 mem stick in dual mode - how high + external usb HDD boot question

Hi guys. I have 2 questions:
    1. If I put 2X512 mb Kingmax DDR 433 mem sticks in one channel and the 1 gb stick in another one will I be able to run mem clock on 209 MHz in dual channel mode (because of memory controller limitations)? Is there any chance to break 200 fsb limit with this memory combination.
    2. I have Philips SPD 5100CC external USB HDD. Last night I tried to install windows xp on it but after first reboot I am getting the messsage Windows could not boot ........windows root\system32\hal.dll is missing or corrupted. I have latest bios and the drive is listed in boot menu under Hard Drive option and so is my USB flash drive. I boot without any problem from USB flash. Is this related with the mobo or external HDD encosure?

well, one thing is sure, you won't get dual channel if you use 3 memory sticks. the problem is that sometimes you cannot even boot with 3 modules installed. check the mobo manual on the possible memory modules configurations

  • SSD/HDD bootcamp questions

Im about too buy the 2012 macbook pro 13", basically i want to replace the 500gb HDD with a 256gb SSD and put the 500gb HDD in a caddy in the optical drive. I need windows for visual basic. My question is does windows need to be in the primary drive to boot... ideally i can have mac os in the SSD and widows in the secondary ... or is there a way to have both boot files in the SSD and have all program files in the secondary HDD.
Just want to know if its possible before i go and buy the macbook
    Thanks

    Hi,
I could instal WIN7 on the original HD moved in the optical bay using a USB stick containing the Win 7 Pro installer disk. This was succesfully done on a mid 2012 MBPro after removing the SSD installed in the original HD bay. I could reboot and launch Win 7 with no problem.
But when i replaced the SSD in the HD bay i could no more use Bootcamp to launch Win 7...
This was working on my previous MBPro early 2011 with a major difference: to install Win 7 i had to replace the SUPERDRIVE and use the DVD WIN 7 installer. But after the succesful installation i put the original HD with it's Bootcamp partition in the NewmodeUS optical bay and a Crucial SSD in the original Drive Bay... This was working without any hitch. The only issue was when Windows get corrupted, i had to open the case and reinstall the Superdrive to be able to fix the Windows mess and restore a previous working image...
The new MBPro mid 2012 has USB3 and works nice with a USB Stick, that is very handy to fix Windows when crashed without having to reinstall the SUPERDRIVE.
The only issue i have is that after reinstalling my SSD in the original HD bay i'm no more able to reboot Windows since i get the flashing point on the upper left corner on a black screen...
I will try to put the original disk in it's original bay while moving the SSD to the optical bay.
I hope it will fix the issue...
    regards
    Bernard

  • Bluetooth question

I just bought a mac mini and now I am looking at bluetooth mouse and keyboard on ebay. Because the mini has built in bluetooth, does that mean that I do not need to buy the bluetooth adaptor? And all I will need is the bluetooth mouse and keyboard?

You do not need the Bluetooth adapter if your computer has a Bluetooth module built-in. The adapter enables Bluetooth devices to be used through a computer's USB port.
