  • Need 2nd HDD Caddy for MBP

I have a MBP 4,1 (MB166, 17" Early 2008), this is the last style before apple went to unibody.
I'm looking for a 2nd HDD caddy for my comp, all the ones I am finding are only for unibody! Wondering if anyone knows a place to get a pre-unibody one, thanks!

Do some research on this one. It's listed to fit the 4.1 (and even earlier PowerBooks): http://www.powerbookmedic.com/DualDrive---Add-a-Second-Hard-Drive-to-your-Laptop -p-17316.html

  • HDD-Caddy for Ideadpad S10e

    Hello,
Today I've received my Ideapad S10e (the SSD-Version NS846GE9). Now I'd like to install a hdd into the empty slot, but I've noticed that there's no caddy to tighten the hdd in the slot. In the other Ideapad Versions I saw a caddy which is holding the hdd.
My question is: Is it usual that there is no caddy in the hdd slot in the SSD version? Where can I get a caddy for my Ideapad? Do the caddies from the Thinkpads fit in? Because then I would buy one since I cant find any caddy for Ideapads.

You can order all parts from Toshiba ASP (authorized service partner) in your country.

  • "No bootable disk" when installing Windows 7 on Macbook Pro (HDD caddy)

    Here's the deal.
    I have a 2011 Macbook Pro (8,1) that I bought a HDD caddy for.  It's beautiful.
I replaced the superdrive with a 1tb hard drive and it's wonderful.  I want to install Windows 7 via bootcamp on it.  I go through the steps (create install usb, download extra files, partition the drive) and once it restarts I get the following error:
I press keys, reinsert the usb stick repeatably, and finally hold down the power button to restart.  After holding down option to bring up the boot menu, this is what I get:
Where did my other disks go?!  I boot normally and check Disk Utility and, look at that, there they all are!
I've gone through variations of this for 3 days now.  Please help!

I recently ran into a very similar issue. Windows, or at least Boot Camp, will not boot into an HDD that is installed in the optical drive bay. I do not know why this is, or if there is a way to fix it; all I know is that as soon as I moved my HDD back to the HDD bay, Windows started booting again.
Boot camp has many issues with MacBooks whose optical drives have been replaced, which are well-documented on the web. This article (and its comments) describe many of them, and the workarounds that people have found for them. That said, I think that Boot Camp has improved with Mountain Lion (or possibly with the continued proliferation of optical drive-less machines from Apple), because I was able to boot the Windows installer just fine from the optical drive that I had removed and placed in an external USB enclosure. (Not that it did me any good - I received the dreaded error 0x8030024 when I tried to actually install Windows.)
What worked for me was to install Boot Camp before removing my optical drive, use WinClone to make a copy of that installation, and then clone the image back to the drive once I'd gotten my drives in place.
    So, in summary:
Try putting Boot Camp on the drive that's in your HDD bay.
The article I linked describes many of the issues you might run into and provides workarounds for them.
Worst case, you may have to reinstall the optical drive in order to install boot camp, then use WinClone to move the installation to any drive you wish. (Hang onto this image for all future Boot Camp installations.)

  • Help,Bay Adapter of W530

I wanna customize a Thinkpad W530, but when it comes to  Optical device: 2nd 320GB HDD, 7200rpm with Bay Adapter, what does Bay Adapter look like?
Is it ThinkPad 12.7mm Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III, Part number:0A65623 ,
please see the detail on http://shop.lenovo.com/us/itemdetails/0A65623/460/6F86C47E2E014840BD6AC53CE9C2297A
Could anyone who got the W530 help me conform that? Your kindness will be appreciated.

    Thanks Hiro!
Yes, that's the detailed specs on the support site for the Ultrabay III drive tray.  This fits W520 and W530, along with T420/T430 and T520/T530.    Looks like we just haven't updated that page to reflect the compatibility with the new models at time of this post.
Note: the T420s and T430s require a slimmer unit, and if you use the T420s or T430s bay or optical  in the other T and W's you will have a gap.

  • T430 Ultrabay or HDD Caddy and mSATA

    Hi,
I just ordered my T430 and waiting for delivery. I was wondering if it is possible to use built-in HDD and add a second HDD with UltraBay or HDD Caddy for storage and programs and also add a mSATA SSD for OS installation.
3 Hard Drives on a laptop is what I am looking for. I am a heavy VMware user and need to install separate VMs to separate HDDs. If this is possible, is it advisable?
Also I would be glad if you can give me some advice with the drives. I think with the 2nd HDD (UltraBay or Caddy) I am OK with 12.5 mm but I just couldn't be sure.

In response to the original post, I was also going to install the operating system on the mSATA drive but I'm not going to now because there was a post that I read that advised against it.
I can't find the post right now but I highly recommend you do some more research before going into it. Cheers
If you find that post, please post a link.
IIRC there was a thread/post advising to not use the caching SSD that shipped with these machines for the main OS drive.
That was to do with the specific technology of that particular SSD.  It was not stating that it was a bad idea to use an SSDs in general for an OS drive.

  • External Style Bay Adapter for T5200

I am now using a 2nd HDD in the internal Style Bay of my Satellite T5200-802, which I do not want to remove anymore.
I am looking for an external Style Bay Adapter (via USB/ Firewire) for the above to use my Toshiba Style Bay Bridge Media Adapter.
Can someone let me have the correct Toshiba Part No., the dealer (mailorder) - where I had bought the notebook - say they can only order once I have the correct Toshiba Part No., as they are only specialized on complete Notebooks etc.
    Thanks for help

    Hi,
As far as I know there is no external adapter. My opinion is that you can use your second HDD as external device. I use external 60GB HDD integrated in USB 2.0 Slim Size Hi-Speed 2.5" Hard Drive aluminum Case.
It is easy to use and to connect if I need it.

  • T520 with HDD Bay adapter

    Hei there,
i have seriously problems with the Ultrabay HDD SATA adapter in my new T520. I have a 500 GB Toshiba disk in it and all works fine until i set the machine in sleep. (Close the lid or something else).
After powering up the notebook again the disk is disappeared. And there is obviously no power on the disk either. I have already tried a lot of things to get it back but nothing helps. The only way to get the disk back is to power down the whole machine, remove the adapter, put the adapter back and power on again.
I tried to use the diskupdate.exe in scheduled tasks - it doesn't help.
I tried also to put back the DVD-drive and change the power setup there for the bay - it doesn't help either.
I tried to copy the DVD-link with the power on option on the desktop and use it against the HDD-Bay adapter, nothing happens.
As it is now, the Harddisk is quite useless. Every time when i set the machine in sleep i'm loosing the harddrive connection and have to reboot all. Does anybody have any ide how to solve this problem?
    Much thanks for any help
    Florian

There have been other threads on powering the Ultrabay. But I am not sure if the solution for this was covered. You could look.
I my opinion there should be a BIOS setting to keep power to the bay all the time. I did see PowerManagement for DVD powered but whether it would help the drive is doubtfull. The Sata is not a hot plug drive and requires a reboot to rediscover it hence the BIOS should maintain control.
Just check and there is "Automatic Power off Optical drive" Enable/Disable in PowerManager under the Systems settings pull down.

  • W530 Drive Bay Adapter and Drive Caddy

I purchased a W530 and immediatly swapped out the included hard drive for an SSD. I also purchased the drive bay adapter and planned on moving that original drive to it, but it did not come with a drive caddy. If the drive bay does not come with an extra one, and hard drives do not come with them.... why was it not included? Where do I purchase one? Does it need those rubber sides that are now around the SSD?

    Hey Chuntley,
If you search around the forums you will find a lot of post on this or close to this subject about installing a second drive to W530.

  • Optical bay HDD caddy

Can a second HD be added to the Optical Drive bay using a caddy?  If so which caddy?  I have no HP Product number yet as the Envy 17t is currently being built.

The configuration options for the purchase of a Envy 17t (http://store.hp.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ConfigureView?storeId=10151&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&... show no option for a secondary hard drive.  Rather it shows an SSD option.
I have seen several (why are there several?) maintenance and service guides (Document Part Number: 764148-002 and Document Part Number: 749543-001) for the Envy 17t that do not show a secondary hard drive bay in their illustrated parts catalog.  While other maintenance and service guides do show a second drive bay I have found no maintenance and service guide that lists I7-4710HQ as a cpu option and show a second hard drive bay.
HP tech support said that there was no secondary hard drive bay in a pre-sales call for this laptop.  Tech support also told me that the thinness of this computer precluded an optical drive bay caddy for a second HDD.
You may be right about the secondary HD bay but I won't know for sure until the laptop arrives and I open for a looksee.  I am anticipating that there will be no secondary hard drive bay and therefore am searching for optical drive bay caddy options.

  • What type of hdd caddy should i buy for Envy 15 3040nr notebook?

    Hi everyone,
I'm considering to replace my optical drive with a ssd in my Envy 15 3040nr. Since I don't have much expeience it would be nice if somebody can share his on this subject. What I need is full specs on the caddy I should buy along with the measures.
    Thanks!

Some Envy 15 models came with second bay inside aleady but need reference your model against the service manual downloadable from hp at the support link on this site.
If you don't have model with second drive bay then indeed a caddy for optical bay is easy option.
Your optical bay is 9.5mm Sata interface & they are inustry standard so simple to buy.
    Example in link below >

  • W510 with hdd caddy 0A65623

    Hello,
I have a Lenovo w150 and I am looking for a hdd caddy to insert my hdd into the optical drive slot. (In order to replace the standard hdd with an ssd).
So I seached the internet and found a few posts on the original 43N3412 caddy. People say that it does not fit correclty into the notebook, leaving a 3mm wide slot. So I kept on searching and found the new 0A65623 caddy, which is officially dedicated to the w520 upwards.
My question is whether the 0A65623 fits into the w510 case?
Thanks a lot for your help,
    bright1

    Hello bright1,
Here is a link to a bay adapter available by Lenovo:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-73170
As you can see this is the adaptor you would need to place a hard drive in the optical bay of the computer.
There are several different hard drives listed at the bottom of the page on the link that are compatible with the adapter.
This will be your best choice so there is no "wiggle room" for your hard drive.
Unfortunately the caddy you found for the W520 and up is not compatible with your W510.  This is due to the bay dimensions.  Your w510 has room for a 9.5mm drive when the w520 has a 12.5mm drive.
The optical drive is an ultrabay drive, this is just its design.  This is why you would need an ultrabay adapter rather than just a caddy.
    I hope this helps,
    Alex
