HDD Hardware Kit

Dear, I am looking to expand my disk space by adding a SSD to my HP Envy 6 1206ed. To do this however, I  need a HDD Hardware Kit to properly attach this SSD. This Hardware Kit (both 708268-001 and 686594-001 are possible) is included in the HP Envy sleekbook series which already include a hard disk, but not in my HP Envy 6 1206ed. Unfortunately, it is not possible to order this part from the part shop. The Kit includes both a caddy as a SATA cable. On internet I found prices ranging from 50 dollars to 150, but this seems way too high. I would like to know where I could or cheaply purchase this Kit, or if there are any alternatives I could use.  Thanks in advance,M. Aarts PS: I am not looking to buy an external disk, I really want to include an SSD to my laptop

If you live outside the US, PM me and we will see if we can figure a way to get it for you although this seller ships to many overseas countries.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it. First excuse me for my late response,You are right, indeed I have the 128 GB mSSD. The other SSD is extra. The one on ebay is not available to ship to my country (the Netherlands). But as no other option seems available then to purchase those two parts, I will just keep searching the internet for them. Thanks for your response!

  • Right 2nd HDD hardware/caddy kit to order for dv7-4285dx ?

Just got a dv7-4285dx and I was looking for the right 2nd HDD hardware kit to order so I can install a 2nd HDD.   I'm totally confused trying to find exactly what to order from the HD store.
    Thanks!

Yeah I have the same (awesome) intentions.  I've been using SSD's since June of '09.  I have a hard time living with OS's on HDD's now.    I went smaller than you though, ordering a 64GB model for this laptop (it's a screamer though):   http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148357
64GB is good to me.  I actually like keeping my OS drive tight for fast images.   My policy is - system restore sucks and when in doubt, just restore an image.       I usually make a series of images starting with the first one being right after the install finishes, and the second one being after I do OS tweaks and install updates.   Then I'll install all applications (office, etc).   I can get that far w/o video card drivers so (say) I can fall back to an image when almost everything was done if I want to install new video card drivers totally clean.

When i added my 2nd HDD I was ready to get it ordered and shipped, so it would arrive before I arrived home. I also was not sure if it would be offered anywhere else and be 100% compatible. The quality of the factory HP part is good. Since then I found a cheeper source. Newmodeus DV7-3xxx Hard Drive Caddy $27.95 +tax +shipping. Not sure if the quality is the same. • HP Envy 17-J000eb SSD upgrade

    Hello,
my HP laptop is about 1.5 years old now, and I would like to replace my old 1 TB HDD with an SSD (to boot windows) whilst keeping the old HDD in my laptop as a secondary drive. However, I have read that for certain laptops, it's not possible to change the primary HDD with an SSD, meaning that the SSD can only be used as a secondary.
Can anyone please tell me if this is correct? And if it's possible to swap the HDD for an SSD, which one should i use? I guess around 256 GB should be enough for the SSD, something like the Crucial MX100 256 GB SDD for example. Or any suggestions to a better alternative?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kind regards,
    Jochemvc

    Hi,
    Specs: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-17-Notebook-PC-series/5354973/model/5390390/document/c03...
It's better to make SSD as boot drive in primary bay itself to get the most performance out of it.
Buy a branded 2.5 inch SATA 7mm thick internal notebook SSD . I don't know about the reliability of the Crucial SSD. But the Samsung 840 Evo SSD in my Pavilion 15 does a commendable job for me.
You could clone HDD to SSD (only if total USED capacity if HDD is less than total capacity of HDD). You may want to move all your videos, images etc to another external drive temporarily, and start the cloning before replacement.
Later on move them again to HDD, put in secondary bay as data storage.

  • HP pavillion dv7-4035 sa upgrades

First off, is it possible to add a second internal HDD (and keep the current internal one as well) to the laptop.  If  it is, will it be able to handle a SSD?  If so, which one and where can I get one from?
Also, is it possible to upgrade the current DVD drive to a blu-ray player?  Again, if so which one and where can I get it from?
Finally, I want to upgrade the RAM.  Does it require any specific (i.e. HP only) RAM sticks or is it a standard one which any good electronics retailer can provide?
    Thanks

Optimus_Prime99 seams to be on the right track for upgrade parts. I have not researched SSD for DV7, so could not say that it is not compatible. Were I think you might run into problems with SSD will be with BIOS support. If a BIOS update will not support the drive, Windows will never see the drive.
I am working a similar problem with adding a 2nd HDD to my DV7-3165DX. I believe it to be a BIOS problem. When I get some results good or bad will try to post them on this tread.

  • Add 2nd HDD for DV7-4190SD With right cable length

    Good day people,
I have a question about adding a second harddrive to my DV7-4190SD notebook.
I searched a long time now but it seems to be hard to find the 100% correct answer.
I want to ad a second hdd to my machine, And according to the service manual from my notebook I have to order replacement part 605415-001.
The description for this part is:
    Hard Drive Hardware Kit
(includes left and right bracket rails, connector cable, Mylar coverwith tab, 4 screws, and 4 rubber isolators)
I just want to know if this is the correct part? The cable wich comes with the 1st HDD is short, the cable that must meet the 2nd HDD must be a lot longer.
Does this part from HP (605415-001) comes with two cables? (For the 1st and 2nd HDD? because the bracket for the 1st HDD has the same part number....)
It is also welcome that somebody who had the same problem and has it solved now that he/she pin me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance for the reply's.

I dont know about the HP parts but I can refer you to another more reasonably priced place to purchase and investigate your situation. I have added a second drive to my DV7 already and bought my kit here.

I can not find any specific info
    - if 8GB will work on this motherboard, or if it's DDR3/DDR3L (eg. KINGSTON DDR3 L 8GB 1600MHz CL11 SODIMM PC3-12800 is ok ?)
    - where I can find HDD adapter for this model
Could anyone can help me with that ?

Here is your Manual which answers all your questions:
    Manual
A single 8 gig module of DDR3L-1600 will work and will downclock to 1333.
The Hard Drive Hardware Kit, spare part number 755740-001, includes the hard drive bracket, hard drive connector cable, and screws.
    $57 from HP for kit
Servicing this model is not very easy and does jeopardize the warranty.

  • Upgrading RAM & HDD

    Hi,
    I'm upgrading my laptop,
    Windows 8.1 64-bit, Intel Core i7-4700MP @ 2.40GHz
    Currently 12GB Ram - 8GB & 4GB Kingston DDR3
    Currently 1TB Toshiba HDD
    http://storage.toshiba.eu/cms/en/hdd/computing/product_detail.jsp?productid=409
I'm looking to upgrade the 4GB RAM to an 8GB, just i'm not sure how many pins each one has. Any guidance where to find this without taking the machine apart would be handy! - I believe its a 204pin??
Also looking to add a second hard-drive to my machine, just what is the maximum size this laptop can take? Ideally i'd like another 1TB HDD (same make) as my existing one. Is this possible? Can the system recongise two 1TB hard drives?
EDIT: Is it possible to have the second one as a Solid state drive? Although not sure really of the benefits of having it as a slave instead of a master drive.
    Many Thanks
    Dan

    Hi
    Manual - Page 2
    Specs
RAM: Yes it is 204pin SODIMM SDRAM you want. You have to buy the memory stick of the exact configuration & preferably same brand as the one already installed in your laptop & listed in the Service manual, for it to work successfully.
    RAM configuration: 8GB DDR3L 1600MHz PC3L-12800 1.35V SODIMM SDRAM
Run this tool to know the configuration & details of RAM already installed.
Page 51 details the replacement procedure, pretty simple.
HDD: According to the manual, it has Dual HDD support. You can put another 1TB 2.5inch 9.5mm SATA HDD. You have to buy additonal Hard Drive Hardware Kit (HP Prt number : 720237-001) to install them on to the secondary bay for data storage.
I would prefer faster 7200rpm HDD with higher cache like this , if you want more storage.
Alternatively, you can replace current HDD with SSD of similar form factor (2.5inch SATA 7mm or 9.5mm thickness) and make it as boot drive by migrating the whole HDD to SSD before replacement & put old HDD to secondary bay for storage. SSD would defintely boost up the performance drastically but they are costly - but I would say worth the cost.
Page 48-50 details the replacement procedure. Its comparitively simple to do.

  • Second HDD DV7-6052ea.

    Hi,
I would like to install a second HDD cable into my new DV7-6052ea computer.  I have done some research and believe I need to purchase the following part
    641306-001 Hard Drive Hardware Kit.
I can see that it is orderable on the USA part surfer website, but it is not in the UK.  I have contacted all the UK resellers in the UK listed on the website but all of them have responded saying they can't find the part.
Does anyone know where I will be able to order this part from in the UK?

  • Envy 17-2100ed hdd-bays

    Just 2 quick questions:
Has the HP Envy 17-2100ed got 2 hdd-bays?(of which, I suppose, one is already used by the standard hdd?)
    AND
Is it easy to add an ssd drive to the above machine.
    Thanks in advance!

Yes. Two hdd bays are available. You will need to purchase a:
Hard Drive Hardware Kit (not illustrated, includes primary hard drive bracket and
cable and secondary hard drive bracket and cable)
    603772-001
Installing this is pretty straightforward as some SDD's come with cloning software. If you want to speed up your Envy17 you can use the SSD as a boot disk. The best source of information on how to do this will come from the forum of the manufacturer of your SSD. My own preference is OCZ for performance and their outstanding warranty and service.

  • Which Apple hardware do you recommend?!

This speeks for itself.. I heard about the trackpad and the time capsule. But which hardware (also cables) are very usefull to have? Please post your experience here!

It all depends on the nature of the work that do. Some tasks respond very well to the gestures of the trackpad; I used one for a while with audio engineering in Logic and found it to be a drawback. That could have been just my use and habits because others might find it helpful. The best solution is to visit an Apple store to try out the trackpad with a desktop to see if it fits your purposes. As to the Time Capsule I have used it for an Airport base station for a VPN to share files with Windows computers and it was satisfactory.  The wireless aspect is convenient but much slower than a wired connection of a hard drive when writing files or reading files. I found when watching video files from a Time Capsule it was always smoother to download a copy then watch rather than use the wireless connection. All said, all bits of hardware kit  are useful depending on your needs, preferences and budget.

    Hi All,
I have just recently had to replace my laptop with a new Windows 7 device as the old Vista one blew up.
Just tried to log on to my external *Toshiba PX1265E HDD* and to my shock its not being recognized.

Is there any drivers or software out there that can get the files etc.... from the device using Windows 7.

    Hi
This external HDD is an plug&play device this means that no drivers are required
