HDD Loss of Space

I have a 500 GB PS4 which for some bizare reason has started reporting a disk size of 61.07GB I can't find any similar issues being reported. Any idea what could be causing this?  With everything on there the total used space should be well under 100GB but basically I've 'lost' the rest and can't install anything else now as the PS4 thinks I only have 9GB left?

  • Ongoing loss of space on internal HD

27 inch late 2009 iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1TB internal HD running OSX 10.9.2
I've noticed a continuing rapid loss of internal HD space, in the last three months I've gone from over 300GB of free space to 230GB.  I've not been adding any files of any size (video files etc).
Yesterday, my TimeMachine completed a scheduled backup at 17:44 and I put the compter to sleep at 18:14.  All I was doing in the remaining 30 mins since the last backup was complete was scriptwriting (using a scriptwriting program called Movie Magic Screenwriter 6).  The entire file for this script is 271 KB.
This morning, within minutes of me waking up my iMac, TimeMachine started to backup 2831 files constituting a total of 145.1MB of data.
How is this even possible???  How did so many files get generated when my iMac was asleep and is this why I've been steadily losing free space on my internal HD when I'm so careful as to not clutter it up with large files?

Timemachine has just started it's second backup of the day and is now backing up 60336 files, 3.19 GB of data!
    HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE???
I've not created any new files at all in the last hour since the last backup...
    What is going on here?

  • GE40 second HDD in caddy space

i'm looking to buy GE40 and i see there are two models with the same price, one with DVD drive and one without. Both have 500gb drive inside.
    MSI GE40-i760M285W7
The question is if there is a hdd caddy present in the one without DVD drive? I plan to put an extra Samsung 840 SSD into the machine (and replace the 500 for one 750gb 7200 which i have laying around)
    thank you!

maybe i didn't phrase this smart enough.
If i order a GE40 without dvd drive where is the HDD located? In a ODD bay or in the hdd/msata space? If it is in hdd/msata then what is in the ODD bay? a hdd caddy? or nothing, just a closed lid? Anyone ordered ge40 without ODD and can have a look?
I know that i need to buy a hdd caddy if i order a GE40 with dvd drive and replace it on my own.
    best regards!

  • Problems with my External HDD. Loosing space?

    I am new to Mac.
I just bought a new iMac, and a 2 TB WD My Passport external HDD where I am backing up all my files collected from previous works done under Windows.
In the 2 TB HDD I have created 3 folders: one has 546 GB, another has 200 GB, and the third 0,2 GB (200 MB).
So the total should be something like 800 GB, and therefore the available space in the HDD should be in the range of 1,2 TB.
But when I look in Properties, it tells me that the Used space is 1,3 TB, and that the Available Space is 0,7 TB.
    How can this be?
I have looked into another articles and all of them say that I should not have to Defrag (I had that doubt because I copied info into the HDD and then I deleted it, and so it could be marked as used).
So, if that is not the case, what can be happening?
What should I do to recover the rest of the space?
    Thanks

You are still under warranty and/or have AppleCare.  Call them.  Let them deal w/it.

  • Lossing Trailling Space

When I run a query report from the database the result returns a value(a key)which contains a trailling space at the end of the value.
When I look at the HTML produced the space is missing thus when the value is used to query the database no results are returned as the value is incorrect (missing trailling space)
Could someone help me out on how to get the correct value to pass to the database.
    Thanks

re your first issue, my test case works fine. i have a report based on a query like this...
select replace ('string ',' ','%20') str, 'dummy' col2 from dual
...and i've set my column link up on the column attributes page as this...
    f?p=&APP_ID.:3:#APP_SESSION#::::P3_JOB:#STR#
...and when i check the length(:P3_JOB) from page 2, i see that it's correctly 7. are you doing something differently, by any chance?
re your second issue, you'd have to replace each of your spaces with  an ampersand followed by nbsp; to retain them if you're displaying them values in html. otherwise they'll just shorten down to a single space. if you check the length of the item in session state, i bet you'll find it has the correct number of spaces.

    raj

    Hi,
First you have to know that any filesystem will take some storage space in order to work so there's few MBytes lost in creating/formatting a drive.
Plus Apple provide the macbook with OS X (which takes several GBytes) and many third party apps (which takes few other GBytes).
If you regulary go on the internet -, be sure to erase your cookies/tempFiles/cache (more MBytes wasted) and don't keep several instances of the same file for example if you recieved an attachment to a mail and you saved the attachment then the instance in the mail is redondant and useless ....
Just to say that it seems to be a normal situation.

  • Loss of space after reorg of compressed index

    Hi Oracle experts,
In 2008 we compressed indexes of ECC system as per sap note 1109743 and
    obtained high compression ratio.
Now we have upgraded to oracle 11.2.0.2 and BRTOOLS 7.20 (10).
While using brtools to do table reorg/compression as per note 1431296
    indexes loose compression factor.
                                                                  before                     after        compression
    GLFUNCA           PSAPGLFUNCA       41,574,400             11,468,800 enabled

    GLFUNCA~3       PSAPSTABI          1,051,904                      5,047,872 enabled
I have tried uncompressing and compressing indexes again but cannot compress to
same factor, results are same using brtools or oracle command.
I have tested on coy of system where table GLFUNCA is uncompressed and indexes compressed.
reorg of indexes result in same bad  compression factor.
key used for compression is same.
any  advise, how to regain index compression factor  or anyone having similar experirence.

    Hello Daljit,
First time I heard about this kind of behavior. I already faced index with the same size after compress, but it happened because the number of colunm was wrong defined.
    My suggestion:
    1.Uncompress one index (rebuild without compress);
    2.Identify number of column that should be compress;
    3.Rebuild with compress nologging;
    4.Active logging

  • Use new hdd to increase space in specific folder?

    Hey guys,
I just installed a new 2TB harddrive and I have an old 300GB drive where all my downloaded TV shows go. Now those 300GB are never enough and I want the folder where the 300GB drive is mounted in (~/down) to be bigger. Naturally, the simplest thing would be to just move everything from ~/down to the new 2TB harddrive (~/vegetius), but then I would have to have a new subfolder in ~/vegetius and I have really gotten used to ~/down being a top level folder in my ~. I thought there has to be some way to achieve what I want here without changing my folder structure.
Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

kelnoky wrote:But how can I mount the old 300GB drive in ~/down and also mount part of the new drive in the same mountpoint?
You can create a lvm volume group over both drives, to use both at once for the same mountpoint.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Lvm
Personally, i would create a sufficiently big partition for the downloads on the new 2TB drive and mount it as Awebb suggested.

  • Lightroom uses huge amounts of HDD space (temporarily) from my main drive when exporting?

I'm having a HUGE issue with Lightroom using massive amounts of HDD space on my main drive when I'm trying to export photos.
The photos are on external HDD and are being exported to the same HDD. The space being used on the C: Drive (main HDD) is upwards of 19GB, while the exported photos are only taking up a very small fraction of that size once saved...
What gives? This is causing Lightroom to fail most times because it is running out of space on my HDD while it exports.
As soon as a close Lightroom the C: drive goes right back to where it was as if nothing happened at all.

I have and the same thing happens. I'm wondering if it's an issue with my
    main drive being an SSD.
I've gone so far as to direct link the AppData folders (local and roaming)
for Adobe to my secondary drive thinking it was temporary cache, but the C
drive still gets used and it drops by about 1GB a minute during export.

  • Possible to save itunes library to external HD, when partial is on HDD?

I moved my itunes library to HDD to save space on my macbook, but as i continue to add songs to itunes, it added onto the macbook copy of itunes.  Is it possible for me to save this itunes library to overwrite the old copy i saved on the HDD? How?
    I know its confusing.  Say
I saved my entire itunes library on external drive yesterday
today, i added 5 new albums on itunes, but it's residing on my macbook.
I would like to add this new library (old plus 5 new albums) and permanently move my itunes library to external disk.
I use to not like to have the external drive always attached to macbook since i use macbook as my primary browsing thing, but now i mainly use ipad.

I have most of the iTunes Library backed up in an External HD
What exactly do you have backed up on the external?

  • Missing Hard Drive Space (15 GB unaccounted for)

I've had my Mini for about six months now. Love it. Everything is working perfectly except for one oddity that I'm hoping someobody can help me understand and/or correct:
I seem to be missing about 15 GB of hard drive space for no reason - at least that I can understand.
Here's what I get from the info screen on my drive:
    Capacity: 74 GB
    Available: 5.9 GB
    Used: 68.31
All I can account for is 52.22 GB
    Music: 41.11 GB
    Movies: 4.33 GB
    Pictures: 3.6 GB
    Library: 547 MB
    System: 1.81 GB
    Documents 832.7 MB
Any idea why I seem to be missing 15 GB?
    Thanks in advance.

I run Mac Janitor about once a week and still have
this problem. I'm assuming that is similar to the
    program you mentioned.
To address that specific point: No. Mac Janitor performs one specific set of routine tasks (not all that critical - and not needed as frequently as once per week) while YASU performs a range of system-related maintenance tasks, which include those Mac Janitor handles, but go well beyond what it is capable of doing.
Yours is just such a situation where YASUs functions could prove useful in themselves, and would in any event help in narrowing down the cause of the loss of space, since it will either release the used drive space, or in failing to do so, confirm that it is being used by files. In the former case the problem is resolved, and in the latter it would then lead to use of software such as 'WhatSize' (downloadable from www.versiontracker.com) to examine the entire contents of the drive and establish exactly which files and directories are taking up what amount of storage space. Most mysterious losses of space such as yours can be readily resolved once you know where the space has gone!

  • Sync Problems With Ipod and External HDD

Ive just got a new 4G ipod after returing it because of HDD problems and when i try to sync with itunes, it manages to sync a random number of songs (ill get to that later) often about a 100 and the says "Ipod could not be written or read from". The thing is that i use an Lacie 80Gb External USB 2.0 Powered Harddrive as my Music library. Also it seems not to be USB timeout because ive tried to power both the External HDD and Ipod with an external powered USB 2.0 Hub. Ive found out that the number of songs that syncs each time depends on the songs, because it seems that some songs cannot just be copied (ive tried to copy them through finder and it dosent work either, but moving and/or deleting them works) and they arent in anyway different(what i know of) to the songs that manages to be synced to the ipod. None of the songs have any kind of DRM restrictions.
Ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Use An External USB 2.0 powered HDD as main media storage

Ive had it on my Ibook before and then moved it to the HDD because of Space Shortage, and then just added as ive aquired more music. Idon't Really Remeber but i think it worked before without any hiccups. oh well otherwise i can just delete those files because theyre only single files here and there. but its quite irritating because they don't seem to have any kind of corruption.

  • Once again storage space vanishes

What is going on with the latest iOS and space disappearing? Yesterday I put my phone on charge with 7.8 gb of free space reported. I pick it up an hour or so later and now just 7.4 gb free. So I lost nearly half a gig doing precisely nothing!!!! The same tonight, after deleting some apps earlier I got back to about 8 gigs free, charge phone and a couple hours later am down to 7.5 gig free. This is a joke, space vanishes from time to time for no good reason. I know other can grow through caching etc but this is ridiculous. I haven't even sync'd with iTunes which can cause other to grow largely, I don't need to as I use iTunes match - which I haven't been using in last couple days so cannot be blamed for the loss of space. Where does it go? I have used all the file browser programs too. There is no rhyme or reason, the space just vanishes over time. It had taken a few months to drop by 0.1 gigs here and there. But yesterday and tonight to lose somewhere approaching 0.8 gigs to doing nothing is a particular slap in the face. The only thing I have done is shuffle the position of some apps around on the various home screens and created a group folder. Could this be the trigger, a glitch in the matrix!!!??
Its also evident on my iPad and my wifes iPad from time to time. Space just seems to dwindle. I wish Apple could address this aspect better. It has to be cloud related and seems prevalent in both iOS8 and also was the same in iOS7 (albeit to a lesser extent).

maybe another theory is something to do with icloud backup. It's using space up attempting to create a daily backup and not releasing the space again. Perhaps I took it off charge as it was preparing it, though I think unlikely. and that wouldn't explain the sudden loss of space in each instance. Could be app updates, and ios again not releasing space. I checked cloud assets in iphone explorer and there is nothing significant in here. I logged out of iTunes account as that can release cached space. I got a groundbreaking 0.1 gigs back. Something not good about sudden space loss. It does not reconcile under usage. Claims 19.2 gigs used up. I added up evwry entry under here and it only adds to 16.2. So a whole 3 gigs cannot be accounted for! I did the same yesterday before today's loss and it didn't reconcile again (it never does) but it was only 2.5 gigs difference. So evident 0.4/0.5 gigs has just vanished into thin air.

  • Movies on External HDD

I transfer my movies to an external HDD to save space on my MacBook after they have been viewed. I basically just copy and paste it to the HDD, delete from my MacBook, then re-add to the iTunes library. I have the external HDD setup wirelessly through my Airport Extreme. This all works well and I obviously don't have access to them when not on my home network.
The issue is that I do this in conjunction to having an AppleTV, and I continuously get errors reporting when syncing. It will go to sync and some of the movies will error out and say that they can't be found. When I click on show in finder they pop up just fine.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this error causes them to be removed from my AppleTV, and then resynced to it which is time consuming and slows my computer down.
    Thank you

I have version 10.5.3 in OSX Lion which should be the most current.
Though one thing - I've been dragging the contents of the folder over - NOT the folder itself.
Wonder if that makes a difference?
