HDD recovery from a partition on Portege M300

Hello
I reinstalled my win xp from another xp cd on a portege notebook m300 and did not burn an hdd recovery of the with the windows that thoshiba provided the computer with, its commen today that you burn your own backup instead of they sending you an original win xp cd. I want a backup cd/recovery cd now and I see that they partioned(or what its called) a seperate 2,5GB hd with the name "HDDRECOVERY".
This resulted that my windows got installed on E: cause it was a 2,5GB partioned HDspace that windows called C: and I could only pick E: to install win xp to and I didnt want to erase the 2,5gb partioned space. I toughed that I somehow could access this 2,5gb HD file but it dosent show in "my conputer" only in the disk managment tools windows have. You cant do anything in this manegmant tool to get it to show in "my computer". I would like to access this space and burn this HDDRecoveryfile so I can get my propriate windows that followed when I bought the computer since the win xp serial that is supplied under this cumputer did not work with my new win xp cd.
ps. How do you install windows on C: if the windows install program thinks C: is the 2,5gb partioned file? I dont want to delete it.

Hello Andre
The situation with Portege M300 is a little bit complicated but I will try to explain you. Portege M300 (I think just in Germany) is delivered without Recovery DVD and also without Tools & Utilities CD. Both of them can be created by user but only if unit is factory preinstalled. The factory preinstalled unit with factory image contains one tool called Recovery Disc Creator. Using this tool you can create both medias. Without this tool there is no way to make it.
Unfortunately this tool you can not find on Toshiba download page. Because of that you can keep this partition on the HDD but it has no sense at all. You have your own preinstalled OS without Recovery Disc Creator.
There are two solutions:
1. You can format whole HDD, create own partitions and install own OS using all stuff you can find on Toshiba download page.
2. Contact please authorized service partner in your country. They can try to order original recovery DVD for you. If this recovery DVD is not available the service partner can make factory settings again but with costs.
Thats all I know about Portege M300 and preinstalled software. If you have more questions please write again.
Good luck!

  • Win7 Crashed: Data recovery from extended partition

    Hi,
My DM4 2180US recently crashed and wont boot to Win 7 (not in normal or safe mode), also it is asking for the Recovery Disk to repair. So before I try in recovery Disk I would like to recover the my personal Datas HDD. I tried booting Ubuntu Live  (from USB) to access the hard disk, But I could access only the primary partitions (initially came with laptop) bu the extended partition which I created by shringing the primary partion (C Drive). How to access the extended partions of Win 7 in Ubuntu ? basically I want to back up my datas (Docs, Photos, Videos) from the HDD before trying the recovery.
    Best Regards,
    Karthikeyan D

    Hello md_karthi,
I understand you want to back up your data before running a reset on the system.
Because you’re not able to access the operating system that does limit your options:
1st- Turn the PC on and start tapping F11 immediately, if you see windows loading files go across the bottom the screen you can stop tapping. Once the progression bar has loaded it should load you to a recovery manager, now because you have made some changes to partition that lowers the chances of this working.  But if you are able to access the recovery manager, if you look in the right column there should be an option that will allow you to back up your data.
2nd- If the first step fails, you can remove the hard driver and attempt to hook it up to another pc and it might read  the hard drive as an external and you can try pulling the data that way.
3rd- Last option would be to take the PC somewhere locally and have them attempt to back up your data. Of course majority of these stores do charge some sort of fee for their service.
Let me know if any of these options helps you out.  If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask.
    Thank you.

  • Toshiba HDD recovery not working

I want to do HDD recovery from Windows 10, I have put all my files on other partitions, I hoped to see & do "Recover without changing the hard drive partitions" but when I turned my PC on while holding 0, It didn't open any TOSHIBA hdd recovery software...This is how it looks and option  - system image recovery requests that I use windows installation DVD .... BTW I have recovery partition in this computer: I just got into Boot Menu while pressing F12 during start-up, clicked on HDD recovery, it asked YES/NO, I pressed Yes, but it just went to this screen again - http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/file/res...File_23358.jpg My PC is kind of ruined right now after restarting... my primary system boot partition is now as RAW file system, I don't know how this happened. But at least I still got my backup partition still on this HDD(I'm seeing this on advanced options>cmd>diskpart). Boot menu > HDD recovery just goes to that windows advanced Options page. If HDD recovery worked, everything would be ok, because it could recover only C partition. But now i can't even boot it into windows where i could make recovery dvd's, but I don't know if I could use them because toshiba recovery mode is not working.. Can anyone help? this is really important.

It didn't open any TOSHIBA hdd recovery software...
The Choose-an-option screen is the recovery environment for Windows 8/10. Get used to it.
I have put all my files on other partitions
Best to put them on external media, of course.

  • Recovery from D:

I want to format my C drive.  If I run recovery from the partitioned D drive will this be accomplished.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Yes, if you perform a recovery using the Recovery Partition D, this will perform a quick format of the Hard Drive.  However, if you have data you wish to ensure is unrecoverable, you may want to consider a disk wiping utility.  I would always recommend making sure that you have created your set of Recovery Discs before using any wiping utility just in case the Recovery Partition is accidentally wiped as well.

  • Lenovo N200 and Recovery from CD

    Hello !
Im new here and english is not my language so plz forgive me any mistakes or putting topic in wrong place.
I have problem with doing Recovery on Lenovo N200. Problem is when i do recovery from CD, i can't turn off some useless apps for me. I don't want to install Symantec's and Office tryouts and staff from Lenovo. I'd like to get clear Windows. However, i can turn off these apps. I CAN turn off apps when doing recovery from hidden partition.
But that model im working with has hidden partition delated. What to do? Uninstalling that software after is rather not good way to keep Windows clean.

It sounds as though you're on the way to recovering your system
When it's finished, I suggest you install ThinkVantage System Update to get your drivers up to date, you'll need .NET framework as explained on the site.
Just in case info. - If, as somtimes happens, it can't install because a previous version of IBM's Software Installer is installed which it can't seem to uninstall, and which also doesn't appear in Control Panel > Software, go to C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\UPDATER and run the setup.exe this will give you the option to uninstall.

  • HDD recovery area not visible

Hello experts, Need your advise`about following issue with Toshiba SATELLITE NB10t-A-101 part number PU141E-00E01TEP. I was trying to create recovery media and reset it out-of-box state but I could not do it. Got message that there is no HDD recovery area. But in fact it is there - see attached screenshot.I also tried to do HDD recovery from boot menu but it simply loads windows. I am sure that it was OK before as I already did reset long time ago.  Please help to make the recovery area be visible.  Thanks in advance,Mikhail

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region.

  • Missing partitions after running Recovery from previous System Image Backup in Windows 8.1

After running Recovery from a recent Sytem Image Backup the LRS_ESP partition is now missing and the Used space on the  PBR_DRV partition is reported as 95.20MB while it previously reported 9.52GB in use. The WINRE_DRV, SYSTEM_DRV, Windows8_OS and D:LENOVO partions appear to be OK.

  • Satellite L745D-S4214 Does not boot; HDD recovery partition not working

I tried to apply the recent windows 7 updates and my laptop no longer boots.  I tried to press F12 and select the HDD Recovery partition, but it does not boot regardless.  There is a message that it does not communicate to a specific device.  I believe the address called out was 0xc0000e9, but I am going by memory.  I never created a recovery CD because I thought I was covered by the HDD partitions.  This was purchased on 10/26/2012, so it should still be under warranty.
    PLEASE HELP!

Hi I'm going to assume that your recovery works like mine and that the recovery partition is still good and not corrupted.
Shut down your PC. Press F12 and select HDD recovery. Click enter. This should start the recovery from the hidden recovery partition.
PS I would advise you to make the recovery discs or USB recovery Try this first.
    Perform a power cycle
Even when your laptop is off and unplugged, residual power can still be held in some components. While this is normal, clearing it can help with boot problems. Perform these steps to complete what’s called a power cycle.
Ensure the laptop is turned off.
Unplug the laptop's AC power cable.
Remove the battery (if the model has a removable battery).
Unplug all wires or peripherals. This includes CDs, DVDs, USB sticks, mice, printers, and any other accessories.
Hold down the power button for thirty seconds.
    Reattach the battery.
Connect the AC adaptor to the power socket that was confirmed to be working in the first step.
Connect the other end of the AC adaptor to your computer.
    Try starting the computer.
If your laptop starts normally now, you're done!

  • Data recovery from corrupt boot partition

The boot partition on my MacBook running 10.7.6 has a corrupt volume structure and will not mount, much less boot. The recovery partition boots but really doesn't let me do anything. Disk Utility can't repair nor even complete verification. I have lots of images which I need to recover, so am looking for a utility which might help.
Everything was apparently ok until the failure and the drive hardware checked out ok, so I'm hopeful my files are recoverable. A week or so ago I optimized the volume with TechTool Pro and the directory with DiskWarrior, and last night attempted to sync 1Password on my iPad with 1Password for Mac. This did no t work, probably because of my unfamiliarity with the procedure, but seemed to do no damage. When I ran TTPro last night from its eDrive partition it reported a volume structure problem on the partition which I started to fix with the program but then cancelled the analysis and decided to use disk utility instead. Disk utility also reported a problem but stopped the verification with the instruction to do a repair which it again could not complete. When I rebooted the system partition would again not boot but this time I got grey screen with a message that the debugger had loaded and <panic>. A message box said power down and restart, but that only repeats the process.
I'm thinking of attempting to install a system on an external boot drive and accessing the corrupt partition with a data recovery utility. Any insights, ideas or shared experiences appreciated. Thanks in advance for any desperately needed help.

The safest thing to do here is to install a new disk in the system and do a clean install of OS X. From there, you can put your corrupted volume in an external USB enclosure and mount the file system to try and recover as much data as you can.
It's likely obvious now, but it's REALLY worth investing in a large-capacity external storage or Time Capsure to use with Time Machine. Backups are essential. Hardware always eventually dies. We all need an effective strategy to deal with that.
A long time ago, I was backing my Linux system up to 4mm DAT. When the inevitable HDD crash came, I thought I was ready. Unfortunately, I hadn't tested recovery from tape and I ended up losing everything. Which is to say, until you know you can restore, you don't even have a backup. I lost thousands upon thousands of photos of my kids growing up.
BTW, if it is essential that you recover as much as possible, consider taking the disk to a data recovery service. Be warned: It's expensive.

  • How to restore the HDD Recovery partition which has been deleted?

    Hello,
due to the mistake, I removed HDD Recovery partition.
Then, now I'm unable to restore eg. system state from before a fe hours.
Is there any way to "make" HDRecovery once again?
I really liked the funcionality of this tool, so it'd be nice but - can this be done? And how?

Andrej is right you cannot do this.
When you use Toshiba recovery media and install Vista this option will be available again.

  • No HDD Recovery Area! While HDD Recovery Partition is exists

About 2 days ago, my laptop (T115-1125) was crashed, I can't get into the windows because some error like this (Grub Loading error, blabla), knowing it, I realize that I just have one pieces Recovery Disc (I don't back it up until complete), and this is my fault, I tried that Recovery disc and load it, when I pressed F12 (multiboot menu) and make a choice on DVD Drive, then, I choose an option the middle one (*i guess), Recovery without changing any drive , and i just pressed next" until the recovery process asked me to insert the next disc, but i don't have it, And now my laptop runs windows vista x86 (Pirate Edition), Recovery Disc Creator was installed, and i just double click it, and the system tell me that i don't have any HDD Recovery Area!, so it couldn't be load, and i open "my computer", there is a Drive (FHDDRECOVERY <=== and that was a Recovery Partition, but why it doesn't hide like when i use windows 7 HP before? Can I just Back it up using another Burning tools (with multisession DVD) and use it to recovery my laptop ? If I don't, how can I get into Recovery Partition and Recovery my laptop without any of disc? I was pressed  "0" repeatedly but nothing happen, I'm stuck. Can anyone help me solve this problem? • Portege R830-10R: No USB connection after recovery from sleep mode

    Good day!
I've been experiencing the following problem on my Portege R830-10R for a long time.
Quite frequently, when it recovers after sleep mode it loses ability to recognize connected USB devices and built-in 3G modem does not work as well.
After some time, like 10-15 minutes of working (or never), the problem becomes solved by itself, but normally it is not the case.
If I try to send the laptop to hibernate or sleep mode again, while this problem is active, lets say, it does not hibernate and hangs on a half way with a black screen - so I have to shut it down manually and then start again.
Normally, the only way to resolve the problem is to restart it, but the issue comes back after next sleep mode.
Has anyone had something like that? Any solution available?

I agree that it may resolve the issue, I tend to see the root of the problem inside the software part.
However, I was curious to know whether it was possible to treat it without recovery - I have a lot of software installed and complete recovery of the laptop to the state as it is now may take several days.
Anyway, great thanks for your help!

Hi and welcome in our community.
This is user-to-user forum so here you will not get answer from Toshiba technicians.
I have a bit experience with Toshiba laptops. Meanwhile I use my third Toshiba machine. ;)
I have A300 to and must say it is very good piece of hardware. So here is answer to your question:
Recovery image cannot be downloaded. You got your notebook with preinstalled Vista and preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator tool. With this tool you could create recovery disc. This disc can be used in situation when recovery partition is damaged or you want to use new HDD.
So I presume you dont have it. Original recovery disc can be ordered on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
My advice: I use Win7 32bit on my A300 and it works perfectly and very stabile. Dont waste your time trying to obtain original recovery disc. Install own Win7 version. F you need some assistance I can help you with installation and configuration.

  • Restoring HDD Recovery Partition

OK guys, bear with me 'cause this may get a little hairy.
At the moment nothing is wrong with my laptop. What I am about to do is remove the factory HDD and replace it with a larger, faster drive. Well, naturall the new HDD will not have the HDD recovery partition. Nor am I very interested in using it. But the drive that I am going to take out will probably get reformatted and used for something else, thus I will more than likely remove the HDD recovery partition from it.
Now around my home we have a habit of handing things down. Once I upgrade to a newer laptop, I'm not leaving my high priced SSD drive in the one that I'm using now, I'll probably reinstall the factory drive, but the factory drive will have had that HDD recovery partition removed.
So finally we arrive at the question, how do I restore that HDD partition to the original drive when I reinstall it in the computer?
Thanks ahead of time for all your help guys!!!!!!!!!1
