HDD to SSD upgrade for HP Pavilion 15 notebook PC

Hey there!
I own a HP pavilion 15 notebook PC, [Model number: F6C42PA#ACJ]. Currently it is equipped with a 1 TB SATA HDD. I was planning to upgrade it to SSD. Kindly guide me through steps and compatible products. Also is there a simple way to just walk into an authorised service centre and request thm to do the upgrade?

Any 2.5 inch SATA form factor SSD will work and I recommend a Samsung Evo 850.

There is a link to all the available sizes on the page. I would recommend at least a 256 and 500s are pretty affordable these days.
Where do you live? Country only, please. I have heard that HP Service Centers will perform memory and SSD upgrades on these "closed" systems but I am not sure where all of them are located or what they would charge. You should be able to find a competent local computer shop to do it. It does put the warranty in jeopardy but the warranty will not be revoked if the job is done properly, without damage to the laptop.

You have to buy a new laptop or swap the system/motherboard or buy an Express card - USB 3 (I've got one) or PC card - USB 3. For desktop , this is much simpler, a PCI - USB 3 card will do.

IdeaPad Flex 14 HDD to SSD upgrade

Hi!
I have the Lenovo IdeaPad 14 (US version) with a hybrid drive Seagate SSHD Thin (500GB HDD + 8GB SSD). I want to upgrade to an SSD and dual-boot with Ubuntu 14.04. My main issues are the following:
- Is the HDD user replaceble? Would I be voiding my warranty if I open my laptop?
- Can I use the mSATA and SATA to put two drives and dual-boot between them? Would the BIOS/UEFI allow me to do so? (I haven't previously worked with mSATA drive and I don't know how they are recognised by the motherboard or how they appear in device manager)
- How do I safely transfer my Windows 8.1 installation from the old SSHD to the new SSD in order to keep my files/settings and most importantly my Windows license?
- While I'm at it, why not upgrade the RAM as well. So does the laptop have one or two slots for RAM as I couldn't find any specs/service manual online?
- Where do I find a service manual in order to know how to properly disassemble the laptop?
If anybody knows the answer to any of these, please write/post a link here. It will be much appreciated!

Once the screws are removed under the angular feet the back comes of the laptop.
Glad you've been able to have the confidence to get the back of the laptop. I guess you thought what I thought, the base inards will fit anything from 13.3" to 15.6 using little more than different length ribbon connectors. Fitting it in a 11.6" device may be possible although the hard drive may have to SSD.
I find it hard to believe you need to remove 24 screws to remove the HDD, and 24 to go back afterwards. Had a play with Ubuntu 14.04 using VMWare player myself, although for some stupid reason it didn't prompt for a user and password during the install leaving me only able to use the guest account to log in. I clearly need 8GB of RAM and an SSD to make a smoother VM experience of Ubuntu and another VM install to save my settings.
Certainly worth taking the back off to have a look.

Hello. I have the HP Pavlilion dv6t-7000 with the NVIDIA GT650M 1GB grpahics card. Now because of my work, i need to extends my graphic card memory. So I want to ask if my laptop is possible to upgrade to GT650M 2GB card.
My product number is A5F74AV. And my wannary is end on 8/24/2013.
And this laptop is a gift of my aunt from USA, and I'm living in Viet Nam now. So if yes, can HP Vietnam do the upgrade for me? My aunt's family is very busy so I can't resend my laptop and ask them to return to you.

Hi:
The only way to upgrade the video card in your notebook is to replace the entire motherboard which would cost as much as buying a new notebook with better graphics.
If you had HP do the upgrade, it would probably cost more than buying 2 notebooks with better graphics than yours.

I have one HP Pavilion HDX9300 CTO Notebook PC and have some questions:
I am wanting to upgrade my HD drive for a SSD model and increase my DDR memory.
I know my memory operates at a frequency of 667 MHz but need to know if my notebook includes an upgrade to 8GB and what would be the ideal brand of memory card to do this.
I also need models of HD 480GB SSD compatible with my notebook.

I checked out you service manual and it says the maximum amount of memory it can take is 4 GB or two 2 GB sticks.
I also went to Crucial and there memory advisor does confirm this.

Crucial also gives you a bunch of different options for an SSD as well. It says that the 512 GB SSD will work, but it is expensive. Stick with a quality brand name like Crucial or Kingston. Avoid buying from e-bay.
When it comes to memory though just because the manual says the max is 4 GB does not mean that it can take more.
You can try installing two 4 GB sticks and it may work, it won't hurt the laptop to try, but there is no guarantee that it will work.
Keep in mind too that if you're running a 32 bit operating system it won't recognise a little more then 3 GB of memory anyway.

Video Card and PSU upgrade for HP pavilion p6310y?

Hello,
I am a mild gamer and I would like to upgrade my video card so I could play games like minecraft and maplestory without my frame rate dropping every 5-10 min. When this happens it sounds like the fan in my computer is working really hard and the game is almost unplayable. I also play a few games from steam such as Gmod and Borderlands, however the games that seem less graphic intensive give me more problems.
Should I and am I able to upgrade the video card and psu for this HP pavilion p6310y? or possibly get a better card for these game without upgrading psu?
Processor is Quade core AMD Athlon II X4 630 / 2.8 GHz
6gigs of ram
1 tb harddrive
NVIDIA GeForce 9100
300 watt power supply

Yuo might try updating the video driver from the NVIDIA web site.
Your PC has a 300 watt power supply. If you don't need DirectX 11 (used for better detail in newer games), then the NVIDIA GT 240 1GB or 512 MB DDR5 is about tops for a 300 watt power supply.

Another video card/PSU upgrade for HP Pavilion p6565uk

Hi there
I want to upgrade from the basic Nvidia card and 300W psu provided with my HP Pavilion P6565UK, purchased a few months ago.
I am looking at either a Corsair CX 600W or an Antec HCG-750W, I am not sure if there is a difference, and an EVGA Nvidia superclocked GTX550Ti card.
I am however really not technically minded and I am not sure how to go about making sure that these products will be suitable before I purchase them.
I have 3D gaming in mind (I have a 120hz screen) as I am a Warcraft player.
Hope someone can help point me in the right direction or hold my hand as I am hopeless with stuff like this!

You might have issues getting the Antec HCG-750W to fit. Do some measuring and see it will fit, particularly the distance between the power supply and the optical drive. I have see where PSUs of 750 and greater have failed to work in some HP PC's.
Go with the Corsair CX600 or the CX500.
I noticed that EVGA has lowered the PSU requirements for some video cards. Look at this information for the 550 TI superclocked.

Should I defrag HDD between SSD upgrading?

I am in the process of changing from a Crucial 256GB M4 SATA SSD to a Crucial 240GB M500 SSD. (I'm unable to upgrade the M4 firmware as laptop has UEFI BIOS). I have imaged the M4 to an HDD and find that the C: partition is 12% defragmented and the recovery partition Q: is 99% defragmented. I have a Lenovo T430s laptop running Windows 7 Professional.
Should I defrag both partitions before installing the new SSD, or not bother?
Also the Q partition had only 2GB free on the M4. Should I increase this when I change to the M500?

If you click on Q in Windows Explorer, you should see menu pop up with two options: burn recovery disks and reclaim space. I can't remember exactly as it's been a while since I did it, but it's possible that the second option doesn't appear until you complete the first.
You can run the recovery during startup by interrupting the boot process by pressing F11 repeatedly. Do so will give you a menu to restore your drive to the factory state. It does this from the recovery image stored on Q. You don't need to do this if you've burned the disks because, well, you have the disks that do the same thing. So, after you burn the disks and delete Q, the F11 option won't work any more. Just so you know.
Edit: DVDs!!!! Unless you like feeding dozens of CDs to the burner!
SSDs are like RAM sticks. They don't do anything if they're not powered up. Open Power Options in Control Panel and edit the advanced settings for power. You'll find a setting for hard disks, for when plugged in and when on battery. Set "turn off disks" to never for both. You don't want an SSD powering down while you're using the PC.

Best SSD upgrade for macbook pro 2011 13"???

Hello all, I have a early 2011 macbook pro with 8gb ram, my question is what is the best ssd to upgrade the hdd from, I know the samsung 830 series is good and is the preferred choice for some people, and the crucial m4 is a good choice too, but has anybody had any hands on experience with these drives and any problems with firmware, lockups etc? I also know about the Intel drives too they are some of the most relaibe, I want it to be as trouble free as possible haha !

Is it a Full High Definition (FHD) screen i.e., 1920 x 1080 or the HD+ screen i.e., 1600x900 or basic HD 1366x768 ? I don't think it will have HDMI, but rather a DisplayPort, which you would need a dongle to convert to HDMI (about $30). Does it have the hardware HueyPro colour calibrator ? Fingerprint reader ?
That's a call that I can't make for you mate. It really depends on what features and performance factors you prioritize. For 350 British Pounds (about $545 Canadian $), there are a number of basic laptops that now carry the more energy and heat efficient i5 dual core processors, but probably only come with 4-6GB RAM, however you can bring those up to 8GB yourself for about $50. Do you need now or in the future, quad core processing ? Systems from Dell, Asus, etc. will probably be better multimedia systems, and lighter as well. The Thinkpad's are business-class laptops, and will likely be more solid, and reliable rather than slick and quick. I chose my W510 over the Dell XPS 15 wtih similar specs and price because I valued the ThinkPad keyboard and TrackPoint, the matte FHD screen I have, and the color calibrator.
I would suggest making yourself a list of laptop features and then prioritizing them for yourself. Then see what other laptops are available for your price point, and compare your valued featrues to the W510 and similarly priced systems, and that will help you make an informed choice. HI My Dv7 2040us has an ATI Radeon 4650 video card. I want to run some new games and I need at least 4860 to run them. I was looking around and it seems I need to get a new card and install it directly to my motherboard. This is all do able for me I just need to know which new card would be compatible with my model of notebook. Hi:
The only way you can upgrade the video in your notebook is to replace the entire motherboard with one that has a better video solution.
However, when you look at chapter 3 of the service manual at the link below, you are already at the top of the mark regarding what video chip is on the available motherboards.

So, you will either have to live with the status quo or buy a new notebook.

I wanted to upgrade my current graphics card which was an NVIDIA GeForce GT 620, the mother board is a H-Joshua-H61-uATX. I recently bought an EVGA GeForce GTX 750Ti Superclock. I unistalled the old drivers took out the old card, added the new one and when I started up my PC i would recive 3 beeps and a black screen. I did some research and found out that it may be due to the BIOS. There is no BIOS upgrade I can find and my BIOS vers is AMI 7.11, 4/28/2012. I would appreciate a list or a recommendation of compatable Video cards so I do not have to keep buying and installing these devices or if there is a new BIOS update.

The EVGA 750 will not work with a version 7 BIOS. Look under Windows 8 for BIOS version 8.19.

If you are running Windows 7 then I haven't seen a post on this forum indicating if the EVGA 750 will work when the BIOS version 8 is set to legacy mode.
